Ordered the caramalized French toast, which wasn't french toast at all nor was is caramelized. It was just bread toasted on a pan. No egg. Unfortunately this restaurant doesn't know how to do French toast. I would not recommend it. My friend ordered the goat cheese omelette, which was good...but nothing to die for. We would take a morning walk and always ended up at this spot. It is connected to a delicious bakery, that they also serve in the restaurant. We ate at Cumpanio at least 5 or 6 times during our 5 week stay in San Miguel. We also bought pastries and bread from the wonderful bakery every day. The cranberry scones and almond croissants are delish. Breakfast in the restaurant is yummy. The French onion soup and burgers are great. The lemon past was a nice flavor but very small portion. In the heart of San Miguel, this is a very pretty place to situate yourself in the morning with a pastry and a warm beverage. I had a tea and husband had coffee. We shared a chocolate croissant and a savory bun. The pastries were fine, and the process is to grab a tray and a pair of tongs and walk around to select what looks good. The counter is where you pay if you're taking it to go. They also have samples there for you. If you're eating there, you can walk to the dining room and someone will take your drink order and bring everything to you. They are warm and friendly and service is so attentive for refills of coffee and water that you feel pampered which is fabulous in the morning. read more

Mixed experience to be honest. We came on Sunday morning and it was crowded so we agreed to sit at the bar. Service was very slow (though some other customers also at the bar received their food much sooner) and the food was just OK. Despite the crowd there were several tables of customers who sat chatting and scrolling long after they finished eating. Best to go at a quiet time. From the second we walked in we were completely ignored. We caught the attention of a worker who reluctantly seated us and left without asking us anything. We waited for 10 minutes. They own a pastry shop so my son and I went there to get him a donut and I saw the same worker lock the door between the pastry and the coffee place so we had to walk outside in the rain around the place to get back to our table and find out that noone has come by to take the order from my husband. The pasta itself was homemade, but it was a biy undercooked and tasted flour-y. The mushroom sauce was delicious and they didn't skimp out on yhe mushrooms! Stumbled upon this place when looking for a nice lunch in SMdA. I get plenty of good Mex food back home, so was happy to try a place in town that has a more European flair. The staff was very nice, and the place has a calm, modern feel to it - perfect for resting after walking around town all morning. My boyfriend and I split the 'turkey breast baguette tradition, apple confit and goat cheese' sandwich, which also came with fries, and the 'roasted and pickled beetroot' salad, which went together quite nicely. The beetroot salad was well prepared, but on the smaller side, so probably wouldn't be filling on its own. The bread on the sandwich was spectacular - freshly baked, crusty on the outside while pillow soft on the inside. I really enjoyed the combination of the creamy goat cheese and sweet apple confit. BUT the big bang finish was the bakery next door (same name/owners) - you have to stop by there for dessert, even if you don't eat a meal in the restaurant! If you're a chocolate lover, I highly, highly recommend the 'chocolate bomb' - so rich, but so worth it. Custard filled pan is the fluffiest pastry and smoothest custard! I went back the again the same day. Everything I tried was cooked perfectly and not overly sweet. The shop opens earlier than the market inside the same building. So go on inside! Self serve; pick your pastry and place it on the tray. The attendant did not speak English... no problem for me. This place could be 5 stars, however, I take 5 stars very seriously and this cute shop lacked some serious customer service! We were a group of 4, waited about 20 minutes to get seated, no problem. Then we sat down and asked for waters. The waiter comes back 15 minutes later and asks if we are ready to order, we say yes but want water. He leaves to get the water and comes back 15 minutes later. Before we ask for the water we decide to order, so we do. Then we ask for the bread and butter. We don't see our waiter, water or bread for 20 minutes. Finally, we get bread! We then ask for green drinks and coffhee and again water! About 20 minutes later we get our drinks and food. We are starving at this point since we are at 1.5 hours after arriving to this restaurant. So we finally eat and the food was satisfying because we were so hungry. The waiter comes back and asks if we want deserts, we say if we can see them. Hahaha big mistake, we were at a half hour later before we saw our waiter again. When he did come back we had been sitting at the table over 2.5 hours! We saw our waiter walk by and asked for our receipt. I was done, 2 of us went outside to see a callejoniada going by and we left one behind to deal with the nonsense. So moral of my yelp, don't waste your time here! San Miguel De Allende is so beautiful and amazing that 3 hours in this place is depressing! Move along people! read more

This is by far the best tasting breakfast I have ever had. The eggs Benedict were cooked to perfection. The French toast had the flavor for highly sofisticated palate.
