    Portrait of tea
    Anuhea P.

So the interior of this tea house is beautiful, let me just say that. High ceilings, tiling, paintings, the perfect atmosphere for tea. I wish I would have known that the set Tea (with trays of savory and sweet along with your pot of tea) is by reservation only. You've been thus warned. Slightly disappointed my husband and I ordered sandwiches, soup, a scone and a cupcake. The chicken mango sandwich is average, I could barely find any mango pieces (the flavor didn't come through), but on the other hand my hubby's farmer(?) bagel was divine! The onion marmalade offset the cheese as a perfect combo and I'd wished I'd ordered that instead. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding cupcake and the blueberry chocolate scone. The cupcake itself wasn't that sweet and reminded me a little of carrot cake in its flavor and texture. The frosting, however, was very sweet and brought to mind the namesake dessert. The scone was even better. A lightly sweet Batter with rich chocolate chips (couldn't find the blueberries) served with non sweetened whipped cream. I very much enjoyed our pot of tea as well (can't remember the name), was a Scottish blend with Heather and lavender. If I lived in Glasgow I'd have to come back for their set high tea.

An early morning cinema trip required breakfast and Yelp handily pointed out that I was near Cup so, after a quick check of the menu, I headed in and tried to remember that it was 10am (and I was driving) so I shouldn't order any gin! (Confused? This branch of Cup becomes Gin71 in the evenings, a purveyor of fine gin and cocktails that is well worth a visit!). The interior looks far more impressive during the day as you can make out much more of the exquisite detail in the ceiling and walls, it is a sumptuous space, and feels rather grand and posh; I felt rather scruffy in my t-shirt and jeans! I opted for the breakfast sliders - they have a reasonable range of breakfast options, also allowing you to 'build your own' although they could do with some Hash Browns in that part of the menu - and ordered a glass of fresh orange juice as well. The food was quick to arrive - a sausage in a mini hot dog roll, some crispy bacon in a broiche bun, and a poached egg served in a Yorkshire pudding - and looked great. I had asked for ketchup as well and, and I know this is a tiny detail, it arrived in those little squeezy packets which somewhat ruined the upmarket feel. First bite of the sausage ... er... roll.. was a little disappointing. A bog standard pork sausage and a slightly dry bun, the application of ketchup did little to save it and the bread to meat ratio (which as we all know is very important) was off by quite some degree. I left almost a third of the bread behind. On to the bacon and brioche, and HUZZAH for crispy bacon that was crispy without having to be asked!! Alas, boo for the miniscule amount in the bun (less than a rasher?) and again with the bread to meat ratio being off it was a whole lot of sweet bun, with not much crispy bacon. Ketchup to the rescue again but ultimately I was underwhelmed by this overly sweet combination. Perhaps the poached egg in a yorkshire pudding would save the day? Alas no. An overly poached egg, in a slightly stale yorkshire pudding (neither crispy nor chewy, Auntie Bessie would be ashamed) offered little for my taste buds to get excited about. The fresh orange juice was nice though, as was the service, prompt and friendly and delivered with a smile. Alas the sliders idea - good on paper, bad on the plate - just didn't seem to work. Oh well, you live and learn and if I go back there for breakfast (a large 'if' given nearby competition) I definitely won't be ordering them again.

Gorgeous interior and laid back feel.

There is an abundance of cupcake shops and coffee shops these days, all trying for kitsch and cool. And while Cup definitely is kitsch, it has me sold! The cupcakes are delicious whilst not over priced, service is friendly and attentive enough and the whole look of the place has me blown away. Brunch was definitely a highlight one sunny, Sunday afternoon. I sampled my favourite - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, while the boy went for his staple of waffles, maple syrup and banana. Whilst it was delicious and reasonably priced (£4.95 and £3.50 respectively), we could have done with a bit more salmon / banana each. But nonetheless it was great. I've yet to try the afternoon teas and I have only visited at quiet times but for a bit of laid back cool in the middle of town it is well worth the visit.

This place is amazing! So beautiful inside. Yummy food reasonably priced as well! I highly recommend this place.

We had a voucher from an online deals site and decided to try a sharing platter & cocktails with friends. The staff were really friendly, helpful and gave up plenty of time to look over the varied menu, before making our choices. The food looked & tasted amazing, fresh and the cocktails were well thought out and completed the food and deserts well. Will definitely pop in again when in town.

Cup includes two of my favourite things--- tea and cupcakes--- really, I would have a tough time NOT liking this place. We discovered this place quite randomly a couple of years back and I am always happy to revisit. As with many buildings in Glasgow, you are immediately impressed by the decor and architecture upon entering. But, oh wait... the architecture is noticeable AFTER walking past a display of delectable cupcakes and specialty loose teas. If I'm honest, I think I've only had one tea here since I first visited. Their Gharra Chai is amazing. It may be one of the best chais that I've had from a tea room. On my first visit, the owner informed us that the was inspired by the recipe of the grandmother of one of the staff. Thank God for this girls gran. If this is your first visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. If this is your second or third or hundredth visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. They have good scones for those who don't like cupcakes, but why wouldn't you want one of their red velvet, oreo, or chocolate peppermint cupcakes? I mean really. But I'm aware some people don't like cake... hmmm.... well, Cup could change that ;) If you're in a rush, then they do sell their loose teas and cupcakes to take away. It's worth phoning ahead if you're stopping in for anything more than a pot of tea and cupcake, or you may not get a table.

We came here for a late brunch. The interior is very chic and it reminded me of New York actually. I had the chicken and mango salad sandwich and my bf had afternoon tea. My sandwich was delicious but my bf was not that impressed with his food. A little too much sugar according to him. I did have one of their scrumptious looking cupcakes, the toffee pudding cupcake, and while I liked it a lot I do agree it was a little too sweet. Their tea collection was quite good and I enjoyed the over all atmosphere but our experience at The Rose was much more impressive.

What a find! Thank yelp for leading me here ;) I love high tea places and am currently on a quest to try as many as I can! Decided to come here for lunch, the menu looked yummy so I went for a sandwich instead of the usual afternoon tea. I ordered the classic club which was probably the most delicious sandwich I have eaten..ever. there were 3 bread slices so as you can imagine, it was pretty big! There was a generous amount of filling. It also came with a little pot of salad which was quite cute. I think the sandwich was around £6 or so - amazing for the size of the meal. Definitely be coming here again, affordable and delicious. Oh, and the interior was cute :)

Wow-wee. This place is rather grandiose complete with old fashioned tiling and retro looking tub chairs. It reminded me of a smaller, less grand and less well-established Café Central in Vienna - there are old paintings adorning the walls and it has a French salon-esque feel to it. (If that makes any sense!) Me and my other half went here for a little afternoon coffee and cheeky cupcake (how could we resist the cake?! The selection and presentation was superb! We opted for the Oreo and Carmel varieties!) I found it really cosy and dare I say rather romantic - that may have had more to do with the company than the setting but it has an old worldly atmosphere to it which I loved. The coffee was good, the cake was better. I slightly regret not trying one of their innumerable teas on offer - from lapsang souchong to a vast array of white teas and their own fruit infused delicacies. There was even chilli chocolate tea (uh huh!) which I will definitely have to try next time. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable and explained all about the teas and coffees on offer. They made sure that everything was to our satisfaction and were really personable and chatty. Would totally recommend this place for an afternoon caffeine fix in an intimate and romantic setting. Magnifique!

Tea by day and gin by night, that's how this place rocks. I've enjoyed their cream teas but this time it was a morning catch up with a friend. A pot of tea & huge scone each (to be honest one scone between the two of us would have sufficed) in this beautiful art Deco building is the way I wish every day started. Relaxed with lovely staff it was a shame to leave and go to work. It's no more expensive than your local chain but it has that touch of class they don't so try it next time you're in town.

I love this place & quite frankly don't go often enough! The venue is huge, decor beautiful & just wow.. Opted for afternoon tea for two with a friend & what a lovely day we had! The actual tea menu is spectacular, something to suit everyone, herbal, fruity, caffeine free etc & I particularly liked how they all came with a "brew time" in order to deliver the perfect cup of tea! (The Tahitian vanilla is heavenly) Soon after our wee stand arrived, finger sandwiches/wraps & rolls, scones fresh from the oven & a selection of sweets on top! It looks fab & tasted even better, albeit it didn't look like much twas plenty (so much so we ended up taking a bunch of the sweets home!) The staff were uber friendly & happy to help / answer any queries - you can purchase the tea directly from them.. As if I need another reason to hoard more tea!!! Definitely worth checking out, even if its just for a cupcake & cocktail.

The delicious afternoon tea which is £16.95pp

It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

It's not my ideal location for afternoon tea as it's loud and busy but it didn't bother us as we weren't there for the atmosphere. We were also given a selection of mini jam jars which was a nice touch. Sandwiches were also really nice. The cakes on top weren't bad but it wasn't something I'd personally choose, except for maybe the chocolate one. I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.

Ok, so I'm a geek. Then, this place was made for me, right? Well actually, this is more for the comic book geek kind of person, but I was still tempted to go along to see what this place was like. It just opened (on Saturday) so I wasn't expecting much. It is pretty easy to see with the signage (look for black/yellow hazard tape coloured signs), and you head down a set of stairs with some seriously cool comic wallpaper. Into the main room and your eyes will be hit with walls of bright yellow and fluro lights. You'll find a cafe, lots of seating, comics as well as figurines and some locally made crocheted characters too. There was a guy standing near the cafe to "brief" people as they came in, if they walked in looking bewildered and confused like I did. I really appreciated this as he was super friendly and chatty without being pushy or overbearing. There was quite a lot of people in here for a Thursday lunch time seeing as it just opened, and in fact they'd sold out of hot dog rolls as well as a couple of paninis, so they must be doing well. I settled for a cupcake (with a batman logo) and had a seat. There is plenty of seating although I imagine if it got busier, you might have to share a table with a stranger (not necessarily a bad thing!). They have a display of comics for you to read while you eat which I thought was pretty cool, as well as board games to play (just leave a £5 deposit). They are still ironing out some things - they are getting wifi, so at the moment it's a reception black hole with no phone/internet (what is a geek to do?!) but I imagine that once that is sorted this would be a pretty good place to hang out for a geek-out. They sell a bunch of American themed snacks and lollies (candy/sweeties) if you are so inclined. I liked the vibe of this place. Geeky - obviously, but also friendly, relaxing and (dare I say it) a bit cool. Nice one, guys!

Yes, it's certainly not what I was expecting to pop up in this slightly unfashionable shopping mall. So, Ddoce is a completely new concept for Glasgow, a real Southern Italian style Pasticceria. There are very few places in town that do real Italian pastries and the ones that do, often serve up Sicilian style cannoli. However Ddoce specialises in the famous 'Sfogliatelle' from the Campania region of Italy. The Sfogliatelle come in various forms, from the most popular Riccia, which is a flaky, very crispy filled pastry with a delicious ricotta and orange innard, to the simple short crust Frolla with various delicious fillings like creme patissiere, chocolate creme etc. On my first visit I wanted to try a bit of everything so I kindly treated the office to a selection of sweets and I bagged a little arrancino for myself. The arrancino was nice, but much smaller than the ones I am accused to in Italy. The rice was coated in a nice ragu and it had a stringy mozzarella middle that served me well on the walk up the road. All the pastries were good and very similar to what I've eaten in Italy. Sfogliatelle aren't quite my favourite style of pastries so it will be interesting to see what the Glaswegians make of them. My favourite pastry was the Black Cherry and creme pat Pasticciotto. Simply delicious!! At £2.50 it ain't cheap, but it's a nice wee treat and I find it better value than what many other cafes dish up. I suppose you gotta bare in mind that all this stuff is shipped in from Naples, so for that price it ain't too bad! Also on offer is savoury dishes like Lasagna, Cannelloni, Pizza Rustica. The portions looked reasonable and the food looked authentic. Next time I visit I will definitely be trying this stuff along with a coffee (which looked good)! Although this place would make a killing in the more hip West End part of town, I hope that people Glasgow head along to try something a little different.
