Great guys, good stuff, so why the 2-star rating? Basically I had a very simple problem with squealing on the tires, all I needed was for them to adjust the angle of the brake pads, I could do it myself but I'd rather have "professionals" do it even if it's like 15-20 bucks. Basically, the mechanic guy (the guy with Spanish accent, South American?) has this whole song and dance about how it's complicated and he's backed up and it would take a long time and he can't do it. Adjusting brake pad angles isn't rocket science, folks. So I go to Bikes on Wheels in Kensington and the guy simply says sure, does it the same day. bingo, squealing problem solved. I don't know what the guy's problem at this place was, fake mechanic if you ask me. read more

Fantastic experience. These guys are super friendly and helpful. I bought my helmet and bike bell (which they fixed on for me) there today. I had just come from Batemans, who weren't nearly as nice so I was glad that I found what I was after at Curbside as you're better off taking your business where it's deserved. They seem to have a great range of accessories but I'm a cycling noob so I have yet to learn how to pimp my ride. Should I begin to, however, this place will be my go-to. read more

This was my go-to place for small repairs for at least 2 years. But since after my last visit in fall 2015, I stopped going for good. I came in with a single brake that needed tightening (I biked all the way from Etobicoke - the only problem was the brake). However, the guy on staff (whom I've never seen before) took my bike and started making a list of things "wrong" with it, and giving me a price estimate (ca. $70). As a part of this "inspection" that i didn't ask for, he took the bike pedal in his hands and started violently spinning it, while hitting and shaking the chain guard. I said I didn't need any repairs besides the brake, and left. 10 seconds later the chain on my bike snapped and broke in two - it was dragging on the ground! I returned to the store a minute later and told the staff what happened, and they laughed as if it was a joke, and told me "well, you need a new bike now!". I was close to tears, and left. I've been without a bike for the last 4 months, and am looking to buy a new one when it gets warmer. THANKS, Curbside! read more

Bought a Brompton folding bike from Curbside during the summer of 2015 I was that annoying guy who wanted to try all the different models, and then try them all again because I couldn't make up my mind as to which was the most comfortable for my height / riding style. The sales staff were VERY helpful and never got fed up or annoyed, they were 100% attentive through the whole process and knew the bikes really well. Today I brought it back to get a tune up and have a couple repairs done. I was expecting to pay for the service but was told that it was free under the bikes standard warranty. Considering the seasonal turnover of bike stores I can only assume that the negative experiences of these other commentators are ridiculously finicky or based on staff who no longer work there. Curbside is my favorite Annex establishment! Their mechanics are not only experienced but so nice and patient in explaining things to someone who rides everyday but isn't an expert. I have very little technical knowledge of bicycles but I still use my Dutch bike (bought at Curbside) like a car, and never once have the staff made me feel intimidated. So many other bike stores ignore you if you are a) a woman b) not wearing spandex c) don't know the secret language of bike mechanics. Curbside has the opposite mentality! They also do not suffer jerks, so I guess that could be where these bad reviews come from. The are the store for the non-snob. If you want to be a part of some exclusive no-girls-allowed club with it's handshakes and passwords, this is not your store. If you are a regular human being, they will help you, and kindly. We rented 2 bikes from here on the weekend. The service was really fast and laid back. They gave us recommendations on brunch spots and how to get there. The bikes were good. The location was great as we took public transportation to get to the shop. Only two tips: can they make sure the lights work, and put water bottle holders on the rental bikes. You should definitely rent bikes from this place. They don't do reservations, however, so try to get there before noon. read more

5 stars for the dude that checked my bike out to me. 3 stars for the dopes that continued their conversation even after I entered, clearly returning their bike, stood right in front of them and waited an agonizingly long time for them to acknowledge me. Quick, easy to follow, customer service script: "Hi, welcome to (insert hipster bike shop name). I'm (insert burnt-out hipster name). How may I help you?" I loved my bike. A bit pricey ($113 for 3 days), but Toronto is such a great city for biking, it was well worth it. Traffic and construction can be crazy so wear your helmet, but there are many side roads to use to avoid cars. read more

Finding a helpful bike shop and mechanic in this city is like finding the right barber who can actually do a proper low-fade...it's hit and miss. To beat the Spring rush, I recently brought my hybrid bicycle to Curbside Cycle for a tune up, and to purchase and have a set of fenders installed. I was greeted by Eliessar, the shop's bike mechanic who on the spot stopped what he was doing and took the time to explore any particular issues I had with my ride. Having experienced unskillful and incompetent bike mechanics in the past, Eli put me at ease and thoroughly explained and showed me what he was going to do with my bike. Within less than 24 hours I received a call from the shop to pick up my bike. Overall, the staff here are absolutely friendly and knowledgeable. I have already recommended that my fiancé bring her bicycle here for a tune up! read more

I just got my first, brand new bike from Curbside today and I couldn't be more pleased. Besides my bike being the perfect romantic vision I had, the staff were such a delight. Allie is the girl who helped me and she was a real gem. (Give this gal a pay raise!!) She wasn't pushy, helped me try out different bikes to suit my needs (I had lots) and was extremely knowledgeable. Everybody else was really friendly, the antithesis of pretentious and genuinely happy for me in regards to the bike I chose. I got hit my a car while biking earlier today. Don't worry, I'm fine (yay!), but my crappy 'vintage' road bike wasn't (boo!). Called them up, and they told me to come in anytime and they would take a look at it. Spent a good 15-20 minutes checking things out and told me that it'd be better worth my money to take it to a salvage bike shop and check for parts (my bike is reaaaal old and it's hard to find anything that fits it). He explained everything to me and was super friendly, and took the brakes off so the wheel wouldn't stick on it when I pushed it. If I ever have the money to actually buy a decent bike they'll be one of the first places I go. read more

I bought a $450 Marin fixed gear hybrid bike here and after only 4 months of casual summer riding the freewheel cassette stopped engaging (ie the chain moved but the wheel didn't). Base on their advertised warranty policy http://web.archive.org/web/20071115005503/store.curbside.on.ca/index.php?main_page=warranty I assumed that this would be fixed free of charge. However, when I brought it in I was shocked when told that this component was not covered as it is susceptible to "wear and tear" and that I should expect to have to replace this on a yearly basis. I am no bike pro, but I would expect an off the shelf bike like this to last at least of couple of years of trouble free riding. The store manager told me they only really cover things like the "frame" under warranty. He seemed kind of wishy washy about the policy and almost seemed to be making it up on the spot. As most of their bikes are pretty high quality I imagine that most customers would probably never have a problem in the first year, but if you do, don't expect to get anything fixed under warranty. Great bikes, but poor service when it counts. read more

I am afraid that I am adding to the negative reviews of this bike store. I have had two encounters with them, both very negative. Curbside Cycle is a dealer for Devinci bikes, which I have. but bought in Montreal, which is why I have attempted to use for service, since moving here. First time was an accident of one spoke needing a replacement. I was told the wait would be 3 weeks for an appointment to be fixed. This was totally unacceptable to be without transportation for 3 weeks. We then asked for replacement spokes and they did'nt even have silver ones in stock. This was in high season of cycling. Second contact was looking for a seat to replace mine on a Devinci lifestyle bike that needs a specific fit, which is difficult to find.. They offered to email the rep. I did'nt recieve a call from the store for almost a week. I had to contact them myself and was then told the rep could not order it, even though Devinci told me to contact a dealer in Toronto. Each contact has left a bad taste in my mouth,. They might have cool bikes,but the service is very poor, and no concept that you might use your bike everyday. I would not recommend buying a bike there, as the concept of service is very low. read more

Decided at 65 to get back on a bike and took a used bike I purchased in to get serviced. Wow - I got there early before they opened and a friendly staff member said just bring it in, recommended a coffee shop, and said come back when the mechanic arrives for work and can advise me on what is needed. Great friendly service and help for a mechanically challenged soon-to-be cyclist. read more

I love Curbside. Whenever I go anywhere else, I just think about how much I like this place. I've never experienced an unfriendly salesperson, they're never the "bike-bro" type, I never feel upsold or ripped off, and their website is the gold standard for other bicycle shops - super informative and transparent about what they carry and why they carry it, prices displayed up front, you can book a tune-up, all around great. We rented bicycles (at a very reasonable rate) from Curbside for 4 days during our recent week's stay in Toronto. The bikes were great and just the kind we needed for exploring the city. Along with the bike, they provided helmets, locks and baskets! The staff, especially Ruben (sp?) was super...so friendly and helpful. He gave us all we needed to know about biking to Toronto Islands, including the best cafe to enjoy good coffee, and directions to dedicated bike trails, too. Our Curbside bikes gave us the ability to enjoy and explore so much of Toronto we would have never seen in a car....and more than we could have on foot. read more

I will not bother you with my terrible experience with Curbside Cycle and tell you "my side" of the story. What I want to tell you is this: do something that I didn't do when I walked into this store - use common sense! When you walk in into any decent and reputable bike store you will notice that they have a large area reserved for bike maintenance and repair. You can usually see at least one, if not more people working there all the time. They are usually surrounded by tons of tools and spare parts. Now look carefully at the Curbside Cycle - they don't have that area at all! They don't even have a single full time mechanic! They have a guy who is there part time and only on workdays who sets his "little shop" by the wall. Mechanic (btw seems to be very nice guy) is not there on weekends when most of the people actually have time to deal with these things. When mechanic is in the store, I could see only modest tool set and no spare parts whatsoever. If you are naïve enough to bring your bike there on the weekend they will not be interested to hear you, rather they will tell you to come back when mechanic is there (as I was told). If you live in Mississauga and if you happen to work during the week - too bad! You will need to take a day off to service your bike? If you, god forbid, complain that this is your third time coming for the very same problem they quickly switch from "sir" to "man" - like: "What do you want me to do man? I am not mechanic." All this is telling me that the store philosophy is: "we are just interested in selling you a bike, if you have problems with it - go somewhere else" - and I was unlucky guy whose bike had a problem. So just before you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on your new bike - think about it - you are also buying a service - you should expect what you paid for and I don't think you can expect it with any degree of certainty from this store. My problem is now resolved by another bike shop within a day and cost me 60$. And just to be fair, my experience when I was buying two 1000$+ bicycles was wonderful. read more

Turnaround times can be long when it comes to tuneups and repairs, but there's a reason for that. The head mechanic, Eli, is the best in the city, and is the only one who can service all sorts of folding bikes, including my Strida. Just make sure you have any nonstandard parts on hand, because the only folding bicycle brands they carry are Brompton and Dahon. read more

This place is great if you're looking to get into urban cycling. (I'm assuming it's great for other forms of cycling too, but this was my experience...) I went into Curbside Cycle after months of internally debating whether or not to get a bike. I didn't know what I wanted, but luckily the owner is clairvoyant (ok, I'm exaggerating, but just a little...) and was able to not only direct me to what would have been a perfect bike, but also educated me on what to look for in a commuter bike. Although said perfect bike was stunning (beautiful baby blue coloured bike with a bell and rack), the $700 price tag was a bit steep for me. I ended up getting a bike at a different bike shop, but there are days that I wish I had spent the extra little bit on the beautiful blue one. But, I digress... The only reason I have given this place 3 stars is because the owner insisted that this was the *only* bike that would work for what I wanted. I felt it was a tad big (I'm 5' tall) and asked if he had something smaller. His answer was a flat out "no." I felt that he should have shown me something else, but at the same time, he was probably right - that bike was exactly what I was looking for. If I wanted a sturdy Dutch bike (or Dutch-style bike) for my daily commute, I would definitely go here. read more
