The staff here are as friendly to me as they are to any expert-level client, and that is awesome. So often the vibe in shops like this is aimed only at bike messenger-types, but that's not the case with Ride Away. No guff if you haven't tuned up in a while, good deals on new and used bikes and a truly caring staff that will walk you through stuff without being condescending.

So I emailed last Tuesday to inquire about an estimate timeframe for delivery. I could wait, I just would have liked to know if it was coming this month, if they accidentally sold out, etc. No response. I called last Friday and was told someone would call me this week. It is now Wednesday and no email response and no call. Then I got my husband to call and all of a suddent the owner Don will deliver tonight and he will delivery to the door. Then when he finally got to our place, he pretended not to hear me over the phone (I was typing and talking on speaker at the same time - repeatedly asking if he could hear), pretended not to get my texts, and he hung up on me. He didn't pick up the phone when I called him back but he answered the phone when my husband called him and it was only after my husband called him was it that he was finally able to find the front door. This guy is the owner? TLDR: TERRIBLE customer service. There are plenty of other bike shops in Toronto to support.

I had a crank with stripped threads on one of the arms and the bike it was on had been sitting on the shelf for a awhile. I'd then traded for a new frame and wanted to get her fixed up before the winter weather. After going to a couple other places with no dice, I called up Sweet Pete's as it was close and I'd heard a lot of good things about them. They had a track crank I liked and I asked if they could could do me a solid and if it was possible to install it that night. The guy went and asked and the shop said yes. Awesome! As thanks I offered to buy beers for the shop. Everyone at the shop was friendly and they informed I'd get a call when it was done. The shop did the job quickly and it's a beautiful crank, and I understand that when installing things like this that there's a lot of torque used and tools can slip. But on the new crank there was a couple sizeable gouges from the installation and on the old crank there was a bunch more. I don't believe this was deliberate, and the old crank was most likely not going to be used again, but I would have appreciated being informed of it. Some other reviews have mentioned the level of care and detail, and I'd say that was the case here with the gouges and there was a lot of grease on the crank. Also, and this is a bike shop thing I've noticed, but when you get a repair done they don't return old parts, which I think odd. I know some shops donate old used parts to DIY places, but I just find it odd they don't tell you. I asked for my old parts back but realized when I got home my old bottom bracket was missing. Overall I think Sweet Pete's is a decent shop, but I wasn't crazy about the gouges in the new and old stuff. I would have said something but didn't notice until next day, and along with the fact that they don't carry a lot of track stuff and the experience I've had here, would hesitate to return. While I was building my bike I went to almost all the bike shops in the city and checked prices and products, simply took my time and search around. After I've done my research I found that there are lots of very good bike shops out there but this one was the best over all and Javier the guy who runs this shop was extremely helpful, generous and nice and let me use some of the tools plus gave lots of helpful advices. This shop is highly recommended. They got new bikes and sometimes used parts for less then half of the price.

This place completely and utterly destroyed my bike. I brought mine in for a simple tuneup, and they called me to suggest changing the pedals. I agreed. And within 1 hour of my first bike ride the pedals slowly fell off and it destroyed my crank arm and front chain wheel. My god! After bringing my bike back they very reluctantly agreed to fix it but replaced my very good chain wheel with a chain wheel you'd get in a cereal box. My bike has never functioned so poorly in the years I've owned it. Very incompetent staff. I just wanted a simple tune up and I got back a bike with lesser parts that functions significantly worse than it ever had.
