I stopped at Curio as it was on the Gingerbread Trail of Giving. I'd not been there before and likely have not have found it otherwise. The staff was very friendly. The smaller store uses its space well and is very organized. The store is on two levels with stairs needed to get to the lower level. The store carries high quality toys and has a great selection. The prices are reasonable here. Make sure you stop here if looking for games or toys for yourself or children. read more

As a dad to two little kids, I love toy stores. Also as someone who gets a dopamine hit from nostalgia, I love toy stores. Add in when they're local, fairly priced, and have great toys and games and we've got ourselves a winner! I sort of happened to crane my neck at just the right time to catch this little spot, nestled into a nook in downtown Asheville. Glad I did as I always like to bring my girls back something from my trips, and it's the holiday season. I'm familiar with a lot of these toys, having stepped and tripped over them over the years. The sweetest people work here. The two workers were super helpful and kind. The store itself had a told of merchandise and it ranged from cheap to pricey. The point, however, is that there is something for all. If you are looking for a gift for a kiddo, this is the spot. The store itself is organized well and thought out. What a fabulous toy store! I reluctantly brought my three very spoiled children in, and eventually promised I'd get them things that they could do on the car ride home. The person working there was incredibly helpful and helped each of my three find something age appropriate that catered to their interests. Bonus: my three year old had fallen on the sidewalk outside, and she enthusiastically grabbed her first aid kit and helped with his tiny booboo (Itty bandaid). This was a lovely unexpected stop during our quick one night visit to Asheville. We weren't necessarily looking for any toys in particular but we somehow strolled out of Curio with a bag full of goodies for the kiddos...and adults. I often think that the measure of a great toy shop is those who are equally as entertaining for adults as they are children. Curio is located in the heart of downtown Asheville a stone's throw from many of the town's most popular restaurants and shops. We particularly loved that it was a few door's down from our favorite place to eat in Asheville: Chai Pani. Despite its slender floor plan, Curio is filled to the rim with creative and educational toys offering kiddos lessons in geography, engineering, crafting, literature and beyond. We ended up strolling out with three mats offering geography lessons, wipe away markers and a kit to build robotics that my husband was as tickled about as the gift recipient. The woman leading the shop during our visit was extremely helpful and hospitable. You can easily find items here at all price points and for every kiddo on your list. Best part is, your supporting a local toy shop. Big kid seal of approval! read more

Let's be honest, toy stores aren't as common as they used to be. We're in the age of ordering everything online. That being said, it's nice to walk into a toy store and feel like you're exploring something brand new. There are so many different types of toys here I kept stopping every foot or so to explore. There are different price points for all of the items so I didn't feel like I had to spend a lot of money to get something interesting. As far as prices go, it's pretty on point with Amazon. I saw a lot of toys that I wanted to buy for my girls, but some of them would have to wait until Christmas. I looked up the ones on Amazon, and they were all either the same price as the store, or just a few cents off. So why order from Amazon if you're getting the same price here? We spoke to the owner in the store and she was extremely nice and helpful. She was always walking around speaking to customers and offering to help. I'm really happy I stopped in to look around, and I'll definitely make it a place I visit next time I'm in town. read more

Super cute store! We stopped in here while in Asheville and vacation. We don't have any kids living at home but we have family and friends with assorted ages of kids. I thought it might be nice to get a little something for them on our trip. We wound up never picking anything out for them because we were too busy playing with things ourselves. Curio is a sweet little toy store in downtown Asheville. Although it is small the window display will lure you in. They have some clothing items---I found just what I was looking for---Mary Jane shoe socks for my niece's daughter. What I love about this place is that in addition to the higher end stuff they have plenty of very affordable things as well. There is a shelf with at least twenty bins with stocking stuffer type toys. One young toddler was having fun trying to decide which little truck or trinket to buy. There are some craft kits, temporary tattoo books, Sanrio items, stuffed animals, and more. The staff is very nice and so welcoming. I wish them the best of success! read more

I absolutely love love love this store!! The employees who were working the day I visited and bought a Melissa and Doug kite for my little girl (who was at our home in Florida) were the most helpful, kind and hospitable people I'd met working anywhere I visited while staying in Asheville. The male employee who was working had family in FL and struck up an conversation with it about me, which was welcoming and made me feel comfortable immediately. The young last and the manager (owner?) which we're working we're really friendly as well, and asked questions about my daughter. The all around vibe of this cute little boutique-y store was relaxed, cheerful and super chill. I knew I would find a multitude of things I could bring home for my daughter as soon as I walked in the door. The merchandise in the store is fairly priced, and there is a large variety for every age group from newborn babies to young teenagers. I loved that this store incorporated a ton of STEM items that were really interesting and fun. I did struggle a little over whether to give the review 4 or 5 stars, simply because a large majority of what I saw in this store I have also seen on Amazon when scouring Prime for educational and unique tours for my daughter. The prices were a teeny bit higher on most items, but could've been less in some that were on special, so I decided to stick with a 5 star review. Amazon's prices are hard to beat, but even just staying in a similar price range like this store seems to do makes all the difference. You get the convenience of looking at items before you buy them (instead of waiting until they arrive and having to send them back) and to me there's just something about the hands on shopping experience that just cannot be replaced by online sites. The Covid practices here were on par for Asheville, where I noticed the rules are much more severe and stringently enforced than they are in Orlando. Everyone was wearing mags abs there was hand sanitizer throughout the store. You were required to wear a mask to enter and signs all over the place requested that you sanitizer your hands before touching any of the merchandise. I thought this store was really neat because it had a hip and modern feel but at the exact same time it reminded me of tiny non-chain toy stores I visited as a child and made me super nostalgic. Everything about the physical store and my own experience was superb and I'd absolutely go out of my way to visit this store again in the future-especially with my three year old! Toy stores are few and far between these days & I want my son to have that experience of going to a toy store and picking something out. It's just not the same at a Target now that places like Toys R Us are closed. Not to mention the employees here are so kind, helpful and knowledgeable of the toys. We are visiting Asheville this weekend and my daughter begged to go in this adorable store. I didn't plan to buy anything, but everything was so unique and at such great prices, I couldn't resist! I loaded up on Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers for my daughter that was with me, and my other two kids (who weren't with me). I guess the sweet girl working the register saw me trying to keep my daughter from seeing the toys I was holding and rushed over with a basket and hid them behind the register for me until I was done. THEN as I was checking out, they wrapped each gift individually so my daughter would accidentally see her Christmas gifts. Amazing!!!! We will definitely be back! read more

We have similar toy shops here on Long Island, with independent, somewhat hard to find toys, but someone at Curio spent a lot of time finding the truly unique stuff. Cutest toy store! Located downtown Asheville, this toy store had it all and at reasonable prices. The items in the store were nice quality, not the cheap souvenir type. My kids (17, 14 year olds) and I went inside while walking around downtown. My daughter, who's almost 18, saw so many things from when she was younger that she had. My son also found lots of really cool things. The young lady that was working at the time was very friendly and welcoming. I had to practically drag my kids out of there, and they're not little kids either! I would highly recommend you visit this store if you're in the area. read more

Really cool, traditional toy store downtown. They carried a lot of new toys but the really fun thing were all the old school toys. Fun stocking-stuffer type toys from the 50's all the way through the 90's. Friendly staff and great location. This was a fun place to pick up a gift on the way out of town. Awesome selection of cool trinkets and gadgets. We purchased some of the nano blocks which are super fun to build. Its great to see an independent toy store, plus they had quite a variety of children's kitchen and medical kits that were a lot more gender diverse than we had seen elsewhere. read more
