This is a place that hosts lots of vendors which means the prices are set by the vendor that mans the booth. So if prices are high, the vendor of the booth set them high. Not the location. One delivery was a stunning long stem rose bouquet. My husband told them that I liked purple, so along with the beautiful roses and baby's breath were some purple accents and a gorgeous purple bow. The roses smelled fantastic and lasted well over a week. The second were flower bouquets that I received after a performance. Those bouquets were full of color and seasonal accents and lasted almost two weeks. A visit to the shop is also a delight. There is a great variety of gifts and floral items in a range of prices. You know that sometimes ordering flowers from a florist that you have never done business with before and are not sure of the quality of their work can be daunting. Berries and Birch really took that apprehension away for my mom and she told me that each of her experiences working with the staff have been great. I'll have to add a photo of my most recent arrangement received from mom. It really was beautiful and lasted about 3 weeks (I'm terrible about caring for floral arrangements). They also have thirty-one reviews on their FB page, all 5 stars. (Also, their website domain has not been renewed.) This sounds great and all, but my brief experience was a bit different that those reviewers. I stopped in here with my mom over the weekend, during a craft and vendor show in downtown Irwin. Neither one of us had ever been in the store before and just popped in to check in out. So basically, the store has a lot of hand-crafted and unique items, such as jewelry, purses, baby items, home decor, etc. Immediately upon entering we were approached by a man who started to give us the spiel on jewely - fair trade practices, where the owner buys her items from, some items she makes herself, and so on. I walked away, just wanting to browse. I found a purse I liked and started to take it down off of the rack to get a close look. A woman (the owner) announced that there was a purse inside of the bigger one and started to walk over toward me. I told her that I was looking a different one. I took it off of the rack and inspected it...cute, but it was $50 - too rich for my blood, so I put it back. She pulled another one off of another rack and proceeded to try and sell it to me. I tried not to look at her, because let's face it, I just wanted to look around and not be hassled. My mom and I peeked into the other rooms - there is one with baby items and another with sandals and home items. They had several cute, original things but they were also on the expensive side. The entire time I felt eyes on me. Whether it was because they are afraid of theft or because they are ready to pounce if you show the slightest interest in an item, I can't say. Regardless, I felt very uncomfortable and we ended up leaving before we got a chance to look around the whole store. After leaving, I commented on the intrusiveness, and my mom agreed, stating that she would have bought a few pieces of jewelry but didn't want to be bothered. Overall, a nice little shop but also a little pricey for a place like downtown Irwin. I have seen many shops come and go in this small stretch of road over the years. I'm sure they have a small, dedicated following but I can't see most people stopping in here on a regular basis.

I typically visit department stores that are attached to malls. That way I usually just walk out and find the exact same there elsewhere in a mall and usually cheaper. However, I was surprised with Kohl's. Especially so since this was one of the few places that carried the item I was looking for. This space was filled with merchandise that kind of reminds you of a TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I was able to easily find what I was looking for which made for a swift shopping experience. When I reached the checkout I was asked if I had any coupons or deals to use today, which I did not seeing how this was the first time in here. Without missing a beat the nice lady behind the register pulled out a sales add and scanned a coupon for me, somehow the item I was purchasing was close to half off and I wasn't going to complain. If you happen to be in the Irwin area and need to find this place, make sure to look off the main stretch of road.

Now, every time I go I feel like I'm in a seconds store that is just a chaotic, disorganized mess. They typically only have one set of registers open, so there are often lines. Signage in the store is often incorrect (sale prices listed for items that aren't on sale, items in the wrong place etc). There are price checkers throughout the store but those often aren't working either. Clothes seem to be haphazardly thrown together on racks. I want to be able to quickly find something in my size, not feel like I'm on a poorly mapped out treasure hunt. Prices seemed to have increased dramatically with a lower selection and lackluster service. They do occasionally have some good sales, but you really have to be diligent to see if what you think is on sale actually is on sale. It isn't the worst place to shop, but I wish they'd fix some of these issues and be more like it was before.
