There was a small hiccup/misunderstanding with a large set of books I purchased from them (it was missing one volume out of 150) and the owner went out of his way to make it right. He ordered me the missing volume and had it mailed to my house since I live two hours away. This was my second trip to Blue Plate and I will always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in the area.

The staff here are overall helpful and friendly which is really refreshing. As a Lego nerd I was really surprised with their selection which was impressive for a bookstore. Decent deals on their legos and their books. It's nice to support local and smaller businesses that are getting harder and harder to find. This place is a cozy retail space that has 3rd space vibes for you to hang out for a bit while you shop and get a coffee. Would recommend and will be back.

Almost everything is identical as to when they really were growing. That can be said about this location. It felt like it was built a long while ago and they haven't done anything to update it as of yet. Obviously the sections have changed a bit in terms of size and what is offered overall. I found it surprising that they still had a vibrant DVD section (although I am sure they switched over to Blu-ray). The café in the store was going strong while I walked through. I will have to say that my purpose from coming in here was to take a trip down memory lane, and that was about it. I didn't need a book, or magazine, I just wanted to dip my toe into a bit of nostalgia.

They got rid of their little wine bar several years ago but have expanded their children's section into a comfortable little nook that is perfect for finding your next best read. They also have the best gift selection for adults and children and tons of unique activity books (perfect for snowstorms like this weekend!). Love, love, love this shop.

They serve the most wonderful sandwiches! An assortment of tasty treats that will amaze you. They have racks and racks of magazines to purchase or read while you eat. Birch Tree Books & Plants is a really interesting combination of a business…read more The store itself is chock full of books and, of course, plants in a series of little rooms in a house in downtown Leesburg.  It's a fun place to wander through and look at what is on each shelf and in the corners.  There are other cute quirks such as a wheel you can spin with each purchase.  You can win candy or a small prize among other options.  It's a little extra fun and the kids loved it when we visited.  We were there for an author talk which took place upstairs in a bigger, open and light-filled room.  The set up worked very well, providing a casual atmosphere but also one that was very intimate due to the smaller number of chairs the space could accommodate. The event was well run and we will definitely keep our eye on the calendar for future events.  Parking is convenient in nearby garages.

But there are some stores that just are not worth any support. The woman behind the counter had such an attitude to another lady who was just asking a question about exchanging books or something... The lady was kind, soft spoken and kind with how she asked the question. And the response and tone of voice the worker lady responded with was absolutely unacceptable. This is not how you run a small business. All you will do is drive away customers (like myself). Seek therapy.
