Honestly some of the best rates on this side of the island! They used to have a small kiosk on the makai side but now they're in Mauka Pearlridge. If you park by Macy's and enter through there, once you walk through it'll be on your right side. You can reserve currency online and they will let you know when to pick up. Or if you'd like to chance it, go in and pick up the currency you need you may be lucky to get some. They do have the list of currencies they do keep on hand on the screen with exchange rates. But in the off chance the currency you need isn't up on the board, feel free to ask. They may have what you're looking for. read more

We're getting ready to travel abroad (New Zealand and Australia) in March, so while we've been watching the fluctuating exchange rates, we pulled the trigger and went online with CXI to reserve our AUD and NZD. At the same time, we also noticed that CXI Pearlridge Center had moved from its Wai Makai (formerly Downtown) kiosk to a more secure brick-and-mortar storefront at Uptown (formerly Mauka), Level 1, in between JHL Jewelry and Macy's, near Pieology. After we placed our order, we were notified within 2 days to pick it up. We were instructed to bring our passports, SSN, and government-issued ID, and, if we wanted, we could complete our purchase using a debit card, a personal check, or cash to avoid the 3% additional credit card transaction fee. Also, because we weren't exceeding $2,999.99 USD, we weren't concerned with CXI's maximum credit card purchase policy. The cashier was as friendly and professional as we remembered, and we also congratulated her on having a newer, more secure location for her business. I recently ordered yen from my bank and was told that it would take 3 to 4 weeks. That would be cutting it close for my next trip so I decided to try Currency Exchange In terminational in Pearlidge Mall. When I passed there recently there was signage in the entry stating that they have run out of yen. I guess I got lucky on my visit because I walked in and 5 minutes later I walked out with my needed yen. I think I got about 166 yen to the dollar. read more

I used to think well of this location. However when they moved from downtown side to uptown side from a kiosk to an actual little store front they now charge a 3% fee even for debit card transactions, not just credit cards. Email notification saying my currency is ready only says, "additional fees for credit card transactions apply*." There's no notice about debit card fees. Reason given? Because they can't squeeze the card reader under the window to allow customers to enter their pin.... This is poor planning and the email notification should be updated. I would have brought cash if I knew. I also can actually for my hand under the window and could have entered my pin. My last transaction in their prior location in the Partridge downtown kiosk - Their card reader actually couldn't take my pin (I ended up paying cash) so I think the actual situation may be more than the window set up... On top of that they strongly suggested I use my debit card versus my credit card when I tried to give them my credit card, saying something about additional interest fees...blah blah blah faster than I could really understand what they meant. Not happy that I couldn't even earn reward points... Otherwise, they do give relatively good customer service and put the cash back for currency I sold back towards my purchase to lower the fee they charge. read more

Convenient place to get foreign currency at pretty good rates and not have to drive into town or Waikiki! It's located in Pearlridge Downtown on the 2nd floor in a kiosk. I went online, placed my order, and by the same afternoon, I got a confirmation email that the currency I had ordered was reserved and they would hold it for 3 days. You establish an account online (it probably took 3 minutes), order the amount you want and it converts it to $USD at the prevailing conversion rate at that time (the actual amount paid may change at the time of pickup based on the exchange rate fluctuations), and you can choose your payment method. So I went down on a Thursday around lunchtime to pick up my currency, and luckily there was no line and my wait minimal. The worker was prompt, courteous and gave good explanations. I suppose this might depend on each person and how they feel, but since this kiosk is in the middle of a mall with a lot of foot traffic going around, it did feel a bit uncertain of getting a large amount of cash or currency in an open, highly visible place. (As compared to a bank environment.) But all in all, to me, the transaction and experience was A-okay. read more

Very convenient location for currency exchange. I visit this location to exchange dollars for yen. They do tend to run out so definitely a good idea to call ahead. They usually have a decently competitive rate compared to other places, but the convenience is what wins my business. The only issue I've had recently is that I must bring cash vice using my debit card. Their new card reader (according to my bank) processes the debit transaction as "cash movement" similar to an atm withdrawal. This lead to me being unable to purchase more than $500 per day. Since every transaction carries a fee, definitely a good idea to get as much as possible at one time. The old card reader worked perfectly fine for me, but whatever new system they got doesn't charge right. Besides that, no other complaint. Fast and friendly service every visit. Pro tip: Go the the specific branch's website and print their coupon for half off your transaction fee! read more

"Turning Japanese" - The Vapors I hate dealing with money. I am bad at math. I don't know if I am getting ripped off, but I trusted this place, and they are apparently honest. I will take everyone's word on it. I jumped on the Yen bandwagon when Yen rates were rock-bottom. At one point it was 161 yen to the dollar, so I went online and got $400 of Yen at their rate of 155 plus a $5 service fee. The yens were ready in two days and they texted and called me too. They have a grace period of one week, but they were already calling me after two days and telling me I needed to pick up my money pronto. PROS: - in Aiea, you don't have to drive to Waikiki or town. - an actual human answers the phone CONS: - use cash, or you'll get a credit card fee. Everyone and their mom are going to Japan lately, except me. But one day I will, and I will have some yen with me when I travel. Yay. read more

I bought Vietnamese dong from CXI Pearlridge and for my US dollars I got significantly less in dong then the current market rate. I bought $550 worth of dong and only got $330 dollars worth. The exchange market has Vietnamese dong at 26000 dong per US dollar I got 16000 per dollar. I was told the reason for the significant difference can be due to higher rent for their space, the less need for Vietnamese dong etc. SHOP around but this place is a rip off. I did not expect to get exactly the market rate but what I got was significantly lower than what I should have gotten. Definitely look around but I would not look at this one. read more

Make sure the currency you are exchanging is all the same type. I had Scottish and British pounds, they spend the same in Scotland, but CXI charges €5 service charge per type of currency to convert to another type. Therefore, if you only have a small amount, it is not worth exchanging. read more

I have to write about my exceptional experience at this location given I've been getting crappy service lately at various places (drive thru, grocery stores etc). Yesterday I went to check on my reservation because I didn't receive any email for pick up. The young local guy working told me I needed to wait for the email which is understandable. I asked him to cancel my reservation for I don't currently live on island and was flying out in the afternoon and not able to pick up after today. He then checked if the requested currency was on hand, there was some, and he proceeded to assist me. Kudos to the local guy with arm tattoos for being so nice. I'm very appreciative he took the time to check for he saved me from major anxiety trying to figure out where to go (the currency I requested is not common). I usually pick up currency from here due to convenience, competitive fees and good customer service but this time it was a major home run. read more

Visit Currency Exchange here and at their other location. The bottom line? Rates are competitive (i.e. better than the banks) and money is generally available. If you're looking for yen, there's only one other place with a better rate and they require an appointment several weeks in advance (and may run out if yen). Personally, it just wasn't worth my time when this place was much more convenient (trust me, there were other local folx that felt the same). If they don't have your currency (for example, we needed AUD), they can order it and have it pretty quick. We ordered on a weekend and got it in Monday. Overall, a good experience. read more

POOR SERVICE! RUDE EMPLOYEE! It's been stormy for a few days with warning signs to travel unnecessarily and take precaution measures. However, after receiving messages that our orders were ready and it was a special day, we decided to make the inconvenient travel to Pearlridge from deep Leeward side to pick up our yen. Before leaving, we checked emails with information that they will be closing at 5:30 pm due to the stormy weather. We made it to CEIFX at 5:20 pm but the CLOSED sign was already up. The Asian lady working sorry we're closed. I mentioned the email and all she could say we got word to close. I said kindly "I understand but it is not 5:30pm and I am here to pick up my order. I drove from far in the Leeward side in the storm to pick it up." She rudely and said with a cocky attitude that they had shut the machine down. I told her nicely (again) but it's not 5:30 and the longer you sit here being argumentative the closer it gets to closing time. I also told her that she had shut the machine. She then raised her voice and repeated it. I told her again calmly and nicely that that's not right. She continued to raise her voice. By this time I was getting upset, my husband said "never-mind we won't buy here anymore let's go". I said "you know it's not even about the yen anymore it's about them complying to their email." I asked for her name which she abruptly refused to give and asked for her supervisor # which she was trying to find yelling at me by this time. We ended up leaving upset. I called the supervisor left a message of the incident 2 days ago and have not heard from them. This is so disappointing. We did find out our bank and other banks were able to provide us a better service and it was cheaper. We won't be providing any services to CEIFX anymore. Poor service!! read more

(6/28/23) I researched multiple currency exchange places and banks and this company is one of the most competitive in pricing. So far my five star review is thanks to the prompt responses by Sieri K. I appreciate the fact that they have a quick response time here on the messaging feature of Yelp. It was very helpful and Sieri answered my questions in a timely manner and was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Customer service gets five stars. The process seems pretty simple too: order online, arrange for pick up at their convenient locations (give them 2-4 business days) or mailed to your home. They send you an email confirmation with your total. Very simple form to fill out, too! When you go to pick up or have it mailed to you, there are some minor fees depending on how large your order (ranging from $3-$10). And if you can't make it in time to pick up your order, there's no penalty fee! I will update my review with the remainder of the process once it's complete. But as of right now my review is for the online customer service I received via the Yelp messaging platform they used to answer all of my questions. Mahalo CXI and Sieri K! Update (6/30/23): Picked up my currency today, Friday, June 30th from Nikki! My order was placed online on Wednesday, June 28th. I needed to purchase yen for a trip to Japan, and my daughter recommended that I go to CXI at Pearlridge. You have the convenience of reserving currency online is a huge plus and highly recommended. CXI's website is user-friendly and shows the daily exchange rates. However please note that these rates do change daily, so the rate might be different when you actually pick up your currency, but this is pretty standard for currency exchanges. I like how the process was so easy. You reserve what you need online and then wait for an email notification that it's ready for pickup. This streamlined the whole process and made it very hassle-free. If you're exchanging more than $1,000, you'll need to provide your SSN as required by the federal government. There's also a $10 fee for the currency exchange service, which I found to be reasonable, especially considering their rates are better than what you'd get at traditional banks. My bank (FHB) charges $25. CXI accepts both cash and credit cards. Location-wise, they're located on the second floor of the mall, on the theater side, which was easy to find. I highly recommend CXI for anyone needing foreign currency. Their rates are competitive, the service is efficient, and the process is straightforward. read more
