STAY AWAY from this hotel! My recent stay here was profoundly disappointing. 0 stars. The room I was assigned was far below acceptable standards of cleanliness, with noticeable dirt and grime throughout. The mattress had noticeable wear and tear with black spots on it. Shockingly, I discovered BED BUGS in the bedding, a clear indication of poor maintenance and hygiene practices. I'm severely allergic to bed bugs and dust mites. The photos on the sites are NOT what they look like in person. It became evident that the hotel's primary focus is on revenue rather than guest satisfaction or safety. Security measures were glaringly inadequate, with a general sense of neglect for guest safety. Furthermore, despite the advertised availability of non-smoking rooms, the pervasive smell of smoke suggested otherwise. This, combined with the overall state of the hotel, made for an extremely unpleasant stay. As well, to reply to this review that I will know happen, apologies and stating "we will improve" means nothing without real action.

Room floors

Words can't express the disgust I felt after seeing this. I had a hunch that the floors hadn't been mopped in ages based on the REST of the filth here. So I decided to get some pine sol from the local DT to "whip down" the floors. When I flipped it over and saw this I nearly threw up. This is ridiculous. Absolutely no excuse for this.

There are 2 holes in my room! Dead cockroaches, drawings on the wall stains on the walls and floors it's just disgusting im not ever coming back here again

Floor and room ridiculously dirty and clearly unacceptable during this COVID-19 pandemic.

I understand this is a rather cheap hotel, but that doesn't mean it has to be dirty. I walked in kicked off my shoes and after two minutes of walking around my room my socks felt heavier. I look down and realize my clean fresh white socks have turned black. After that I felt nasty so I wanted to hop in the shower. The knob came clean off in my hand as if it was never fully on. I've had pretty ugly stays, but this Motel 6 in Norfolk doesn't deserve 1 star.

If I could give it less I would. Booked through Priceline, spent $258 for one night. I have to say this is a close to a "crack" hotel as I have ever seen. Urine all around base of toilet, food wrappers on floor. Our feet are sticking to floor. Who owns this place? Why would a reputable company like Priceline do business with them? Owner's and Motel 6 should be ashamed.

I don't know if this is blood or what but a stain on the bed

Worst motel I have ever stayed at. First our check in was an HOUR late. Finally after getting our room we were nothing but disappointed. Our room was filthy. The bed was damp, the floor was dirty, no shampoo no conditioner, no fridge, no ice machine and no soda in the vending machines. The customer service was absolutely terrible. Whoever the lady is by the pool rolled her eyes at us and gave us nothing but attitude and acted as if we were an inconvenience to her. She told us there was an ice machine, it was broken. She told us the pool would be back open in an hour, it was shutdown for the rest of the day because it FAILED inspection. I can not even believe this place is still open. This motel needs shutdown ASAP.

Brand new socks after 10-min on a wood floor... yikes! Wash your floors!

One of the worst M6 experiences I've had. The good? Little, most not related to the hotel. * Dunkin' Donuts is next door & you can walk. * Lots of local restaurants, from every fast food chain to low-to-mid range sit-downs like Red Lobster & Lone Star Steak, if you feel like going out. * Price is very reasonable, around $50 (which is why I made a reservation). * About 1-dozen people were in the pool with kids, so that seems to be an enjoyable pastime for those traveling with families. * As with most M6s (not all), AARP entitles you to a 10% discount (they don't offer AAA discounts), free WiFi (otherwise it's $2.99 or $4.99 for faster speed) & a 2pm late checkout. The bad? Everything else. * Staff, all around. Front desk staff was like Moe, Larry & Curly. I had a reservation. Check-in is at 3pm. I was told at 4pm that I'd need to come back at 5 for a room. They kept changing their minds... this one is ready, no it's not, come back, no wait, I think we have one, no, come back in an hour... it took the 3 of them 20-min to find a room for me. No apology, no humor, just them spouting nonsense to each other the whole time... if I interjected (to give me an upstairs room instead of downstairs, or that I'd take any size bed), I was ignored. The sarcastic, depressed, angry, young man, in particular (7-19-16 is when I stayed, if management would like to address the issue), was having a bad day, complaining the entire time about being alive & hating his job. For 20-min I listened to his rant, over & over... he's not coming back to work, he won't show up if on the schedule, he might be dead. Dear god man, get thyself to therapy pronto before there's a workplace incident. Either the three blind mice need extra computer training, because they all struggled with it, or they need new jobs & a good jolt of customer service etiquette. And, someone surely needs to talk to the young man to see if he needs help or just needs to be quiet with his dramas. * Cleanliness was dismal in my room. (BTW, I checked in, then left & returned later in a thunderstorm & flash flooding, so when I noticed the filth, I just decided to stay & never return, as it was too late to go elsewhere.) It's obvious my room was not cleaned at all, although the beds were made & there were towels... too bad 1 towel was used & had black makeup on it. Fresh mascara stains on my pillow weren't the worst of it... so did housekeeping make the beds, but not change sheets or pillowcases? The giant dead cockroach in the corner wasn't the worst of it. The filthy floor (my white socks were black within 10-min) wasn't the worst of it. The sticky, dirty desk, table & countertops weren't the worst of it. The unclean toilet & the room smelling of smoke was the worst. Thankfully, I carry disinfectant wipes & room freshener when traveling... it took 4 wipes to clean the surfaces & I gave up spraying after a few squirts. They must have just made this smoking room into a non-smoking, I'm guessing. (Note to management: There are ionizers which can be plugged into walls for 24-hrs to de-smoke a room... buy some!) There are plenty of local hotels & other M6s not too far away, all more pricey. This could have been an oversight, but I'm guessing they were short on housekeeping staff & rushed the cleaning part of turning over rooms. I'd say skip it & try another. ETA: And, the last straw & why M6 just lost a customer forever... I'll be on the road for 2-wks more, so need a hotel every night. I woke up in the morning to see about 30, small black hairs all over one portion of my fitted sheet... no doubt from the aforementioned mascara wearing, hairy being or his/her dog, which further proves they didn't change my sheets... what the Valhalla. Unfortunately I didn't notice them before I got into bed in the dark... yuck! This stay was so unacceptable, for the 1st time, I will write the company & refer them to my Yelp post. I generally stay at M6s when traveling, but honestly, if I were to write every time I hit a bad one, I'd be on Yelp everyday. After today, I'll be trying another chain. I downgraded to 1* because there is no 0* option. I also woke up to the young lesbian couple next door, with their giant dogs, arguing in front of my room for 20-min. It was so heated, I didn't want to step outside to pack my car & just as I was about to call the front desk to come down to break it up, one finally drove away & the other went inside... before they returned a few minutes later & began arguing again in the same spot in front of my room... great! A man finally told them to be quiet... not sure if he was a guest or hotel staff. I know that's not the hotel's fault, but it only added to an already unpleasant experience. Besides, they were probably arguing about their mascara-ed sheets not being changed, dead cockroaches in the corner & filthy floors. Red Roof Inn, here I come.

Bed bug bites. Much more than included in this photo.

I was very worried before arriving only because of all the reviews but we were greeted by a nice young man along with a cop so I immediately felt safe.

The location is convenient as well. There are also some great restaurants and bars nearby. We attended a concert at NORVA and that was about a three minute walk. I would love to stay a couple more weeks but I couldn't get the govt per diem rate anymore. Some additional pros: Clean hotel, not stingy with waters, $15.00 daily credit (30 for a couple), lite breakfast in lounge, amenities for Empyrean rooms, happy hour specials in lounge, lite dinner in lounge, free pool table at Grain, awesome bartenders who give good recommendations. Front desk personnel are helpful! Some cons: hit or miss service in lounge, drinks can be expensive, no microwave in lounge, no microwave in rooms, cold food in lounge.

The king bed was comfortable if a bit soft and the duvet is a bit thin. Sometimes we were cold. The bathroom was clean, but the window in the bathroom doesn't have a room darkening shade, and the bathroom door is frosted glass, so there is a lot of light shiny through. The omelette at the breakfast restaurant was good. There is a delightful free museum of glass adjacent. Gym: had one non- working treadmill and 3 working. It has bikes and a few weights too. Water cups are plastic. This should be changed to something biodegradable Problems : There was not one day that didn't have a significant issue. The least of these was rude or incomplete service, likely based in either poor training or ignorance or both The greatest issues concerned housekeeping. A lack of TOWELS --yes, that's right--meant every day we either had to beg for towels or not shower. The shower leaked onto the floor ( door seal insufficient) so keeping a towel for more than one day wasn't an option as the puddle needed sopping up so the sink could be accessed Gregg, a manager, tried very hard to fix issues. Even with him promising, we still had issues. Because of Gregg's efforts this review is a 2 star instead of a 1 star. Look at my reviews and you will see I very rarely give low ratings Compliments to Adrienne ( front desk who was friendly and helpful with some printing jobs) and Gregg for good service

The location is truly incredible, right in downtown Norfolk with easy access to the waterfront and so much within walking distance. That said, I was a bit disappointed with the vibe on my last visit this past weekend. I was expecting more of a true refresh or "facelift," but it still feels like the property needs additional updates to fully match its potential and prime location. During my stay, there were also noticeable maintenance issues, including an escalator that wasn't working, peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, doors not locking, sheets with makeup stains, and areas that felt generally dated. As for parking I suggest using the paid lots, though they do offer valet. Overall, it's still a solid hotel in an unbeatable location, staff was friendly, check in was a breeze. I would stay again for the convenience and nostalgia alone, but I'd really love to see a more thoughtful, comprehensive remodel to truly bring it up to its full potential.

Self-parking was conveniently located directly across the street and was reasonably priced at a fixed daily rate with unlimited in-and-out privileges. Staff members were friendly, professional, and accommodating. Overall, our stay was good. The only area for improvement would be requiring key card access for elevators to hotel room floors as an extra measure to enhance guest safety. I would recommend it to visitors to the Norfolk area.

At around $300 per night, I expected a much higher level of quality and comfort. When we first entered the room, there was a very strong and unpleasant odor. Maintenance had to come and spray Lysol and ZEP to try to eliminate the smell. We ended up opening the windows and the door to air the room out, which eventually helped, but that is not something guests should have to do upon arrival. There were also several maintenance and cleanliness issues in the room. The closet door would not slide properly, the carpet had visible stains, and the bed sheets had a noticeable stain and were wrinkled. The comforters also appeared worn and not very clean, and the sofa looked old and stained as well. While the kitchen area appeared to be cleaned, the rest of the room definitely needed more attention. Another inconvenience was that only one elevator was working. A gentleman who stays there often mentioned that the second elevator had reportedly been out of service for about two months. The breakfast was mediocre at best -- nothing particularly impressive. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the lobby and hallways were nice and clean, which made the condition of the rooms even more disappointing. Overall, I expected much more from a Marriott property at this price point. The hotel has potential, but the guest rooms need significantly more attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep.

You might think that they are noisy with planes constantly flying overhead, but that is not the case. I usually look for them because they are usually reasonably priced with good amenities. Hampton Inn always has the features we like and this one in Norfolk is no exception. Upon check-in, we were given a room at the end of the hall on the 2nd floor. It turns out the hotel wasn't too full and we were upgraded to a large junior suite! Our very comfortable suite was easily 600-700 sq ft vs a regular 250-300 sq ft room and was long enough to have two windows facing the street. There is a wet bar area by the entrance with sink, refrigerator, coffee machine & microwave. Behind that was a large closet and a separate bathroom sink area outside of the shower/bathtub/toilet room. A king-size bed, 52" HDTV, desk and pull-out sleeper couch filled up the rest of the room. There are plenty of outlets & USB ports conveniently located on the desk and nightstands to charge all your phones, earpods, watches, ipads and laptops. The TV was even mounted on a swing-out mount so that you can see it properly from either the couch or in bed. The WiFi was adequate but you had to sometimes reenter your info to login. Breakfast served from 6am-10am everyday was adequate, though other Hamptons have better spreads. The one chafing tray with 3 compartments usually had scrambled eggs or omelet, sausage or bacon and home fried potatoes or biscuits and gravy. Get some toast or a bagel with fresh fruit, juice and you're all set for the day. The all-day coffee carafes are located in the lobby by the elevators though, not in the breakfast area. You can also enjoy a hot, fresh made Belgian Waffle from the DIY waffle irons, with a full size and a 4 mini iron. If you're on the run, the staff sets out quick grab-n-go breakfast sacks by the front door with bagel & spreads, fruit & yogurt. We didn't get to use the indoor pool, but we did use the gym once, even though it was small with only 3 machines. The gym opens at 6am though.
