That being said, it still has a small, well-kept parking area where you can park if you are looking to hike up to Mt Mitchell. My partner and I did this recently one Saturday. We got to the parking lot by 6am and were the only ones there. By the time we returned, a little after noon, it was jam packed. Perfect spot if you can get in early enough!

It was the high capacity (50 ppl and 10 cars), with flush toilets, shelters, and no outright policy against alcohol that sold me on the cradle​ of forestry campground, Briar Bottom located in the Black Mountain Campground. We camped one night at Red Oak. We had booked for two but, sometimes when you camp at the tail if the season (end of October) in the shadows of Mount Mitchell you aren't guaranteed the prettiest of weather. Getting here on those mountain roads was quite the adventure. Bring printed directions as you're going to loose cell service the closer you get. If you're headed to the group camp just turn into the camp ground, and proceed left. You'll go for quite a way but once you've reached the ford you're pretty much there. Yep, you've got to cross a creek running down the mountain side. It's tile bottomed so there's not too much to worry about. There were 8 of us that camped and it was pretty much a cold downpour (36 degrees) from when we arrived so it was a huge bonus that all the sites have shelters with space to put together tents, and put on those rainflys before staking them down. Having two picnic tables were great because they were under the shelters too. All in all I'll totally come back when I'm visiting my home state and I need a beautiful place to camp at a reasonable cost.

There is an stigma about permanent people but we found that us being friendly, waving and smiling to all they all are friendly and respond well, on the contrary the only indifferent person was a temporary young lady that when greeted twice looked the other way but you can't expect everyone to be in a good mood all the time. Comfy bed, nice shower, decent WiFi, and a surprisingly well appointed kitchen. The covered porch is fantastic and we ate pretty much every meal out there. The fire pit area is also super nice. There was plenty of fenced in space around the cabin for even our Great Dane to wander around. The dog parks are really nice and our dog especially loved the pond park. The dog wash station is a really nice touch too. The rate is comparable to a mid range hotel, but instead you get a fancy, well appointed cabin that's completely dog friendly and has a ton more amenities. Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely be back. Top tier A++ dog vacation.

We brought our two senior Shibas, who aren't really into dog parks or other dogs, and they were able to have the entire parks to themselves for at least an hour each day we went. They had so much fun, and being able to pick up some dog treats on the way home from our park adventure was a nice touch. The staff here do an amazing job keeping the campgrounds clean, maintained, and filled with fun activities for dogs and people. Having a fenced in site was great, and our dogs felt right at home. The RV is stocked with almost everything you'll need for a few days, just bring food, towels and personal hygiene stuff and you're set. There's also washers/dryers/general store if you forget anything. Overall we had such a fun time just hanging out, spending quality time with our dogs. There were a ton of social events going on - bonfires, happy hr, etc but we're antisocial so we watched from afar. Looked fun though! We will definitely be back next summer! *My only suggestion would be to include an EV charging station, we were able to trickle charge our vehicle with no issues but having a paid EV charging site/parking spot would be an awesome addition to help generate revenue and attract more road trippers and you can charge while you're at the dog parks. I understand it's mostly a RV destination, but being able to charge our vehicle while we rented the RV was really convenient especially because the nearest supercharger is 45 min away.

We spent 2 nights here and loved our site, the deck over the rushing stream was a perfect place to sip coffee in the mornings and whiskey in the evenings. The dog park gave our pup the chance to run free, the clean bathhouses gave us a place to freshen up and the location gave us the ability to explore all Asheville had to offer, climb to the top of Mount Mitchell (the highest point East of the Mississippi) and just enjoy the surroundings. Our site had a full hook up, electric and water (even with temps in the low 20's at night), we had a fire ring (or square), a picnic table perched on the deck, cantilevered over the stream, and lovely (back-in) site with privacy and shade. We can't wait to come back.

There is nice landscaping between spaces and several of the spaces had decks over the trout stream. This RV Park has added many acres next door and is expanding.
