There needs to be an improvement in EVERYTHING , the ladies taking my order were extremely rude and kept rolling their eyes at me , very unfriendly and inhospitable, . The enchilada I ordered was TERRIBLE, extremely salty , the chicken was TERRIBLE, tasted old and BITTER???!! and reheated , took 30 mins for the worst enchilada I've ever put in my mouth . And When I called to complain to ask for my money back the worker kept trying to argue with me and was trying to say I didn't understand what the difference between and enchilada and a quesadilla is ? When I told her the food tasted terrible and I told her to speak to the manager and she refused and lied to me and said that her manager wasn't there and hung up on me very rudely , I then had my friend call back and ask for the manager and she told us we could come back and return the food , when I had already thrown it out . Cuscatlan Restaurant is the southern anchor of a "not doing very well" older, somewhat in need of repair (ok, "decaying") strip mall. One reviewer noted that it is in a working class neighborhood, but from the looks of the nearby vagrants, the workers of the working class must be unemployed workers. However, his review does correctly point out that such adds to the "charm" of the place, which indeed it does, and much to my liking. The restaurant itself is clean, neatly arranged, but could certainly use some fresh paint as well as a little sprucing up. Besides sit down with wait staff service, it is also and maybe more primarily a take out restaurant, particularly during the lunch hours. The menu is small and though a Salvadorian restaurant, you have your choice of having many of the menu items prepared in Salvadorian or Mexican style. What counts of course is the flavor of the food and after having had their shrimp in red sauce (read tomato based), Salvadorian style, I found the flavors to be delicious as well as nicely pronounced. Having that along with a generous and properly prepared portion of plantains and accompany salad, bread plus a imported beer all for $17.77 I found it to be most enjoyable. I was skeptical because it had only 32 reviews but when I got here, the food was amazing. You must try the Chicharrones with green spicy salsa, and the Pupusas are to die for. The place was ok the food did take a bit longer. The chicken was hard. We ordered limón chicken with fried yucca and tostones. Pupusa was really good. The lemon chicken the quality was really bad. They messed up with our side so we had to wait a bit for it to come. They weren't to attentive not refilling our water or even checking to see if we were ok. Once we were done with our meals they didn't check to see if we wanted anything else. Not sure if we will return. read more

Update : We came for lunch. Had the best Mariscada con crema in town by far! It is a seafood soup with mussels,clams,crab,fish and chopped veggies and finished off with a touch of Salvadorean crema. They serve it with a side of rice and tortillas! If you come here you MUST try the Mariscada and a little "hint" the large portion serves two people. THIS evening I had my husband pick up three of these tamales de elote- they are delicious. Made out of corn and wrapped in a corn husk and comes with a side of crema. Absolutely authentic and filling. This is a local restaurant in our area. We have came here for over 10 years and the food only gets better and better. The portions are just right and their specials are great for a family. We have pretty much tried everything on the menu. All of the drinks. This El Salvadorian restaurant is tucked away in the Oakland Park area off of Andrews Ave. If it weren't for my Colombian friend who loves his Latin food, I would never have known this was here. I have only been here for lunch, and now that I say that I don't even know what the evening hours are. During lunch, they have excellent priced specials. They also have something called Pupusa. Yes, I know it sounds strange, but it is so delicious. Basically, it is a tortilla with stuff inside the middle. There are a few different ones, but I always get Pupusas de frijol, chicharron, o revueltas (Beans, Pork Rinds or Mixed)- I get mixed. These are so good and inexpensive. The one I get is $2.75. On the side there is a tomato based sauce, and two other mixes of toppings you can put on top. I only do one of the two. It is kind of hard for me to describe them, but I highly recommend the Pupusa's! I always also get the Bistec de Pollo with yucca fritas and a second side. I LOVE YUCCA!!!! First off, since we came on a Monday we were treated to a weekday special menu with several choices all for 9.95 including drink & 2 sides. Love this place. Pretty authentic El Salvadorian food. For about $5 you can get a full breakfast with huevos rancheros (eggs with a delicious tomato sauce) with a side of refried beans, really delicious quahada (a type of mild cheese), 2 flour tortillas, and plantains. If you're feeling like typical El Salvadorian cuisine, try the a mixed or cheese pupusa, yummo. Pupusas are tick flour tortillas stuffed with cheese, refried beans and/or chorizo. Pair either meal with a delicious cafe con leche, orchata, or other Spanish juices. The staff is always nice and courteous and you can even buy some Central American goodies when you pay your bill. read more

Came in for dinner on a Saturday night with my wife. Ordered 2 meals: steak and fish with 2 sides each. The steak dish was excellent. The fish and sweet plantains were overcooked. The waitresses were very helpful in explaining the menu and breaking dishes we never tried before. Until here this was a 4-5 star review. We asked for a drink which the waitresses did not know about so they called the manager/owner who spoke in an extremely rude tone to my wife. He ran in the back when I said something to him. It was basically a glorified vegetable soup, with a little bit of tripe, and some very weird bones with connective tissue attached. Service was very good. Young man made sure we were good and checked up on us regularly. We ordered the sampler which was just enormous, had about 1/3 of that and I was already full. But there was nothing special but all kinds of fried stuff. My main dish was the beef/chicken/shrimp special. Was suppose to be grilled but it was pan fried. Very dry and nothing special. My son had the fajitas which looked better but I did not try it as I was so stuffed with all my fried food. Once again portion was big. A mixed bag, some stuff was good, some not. The waitress seemed a little clueless to our questions and we found out she didn't exactly speak English. Bring someone that speaks Spanish and you might have better luck. The pupusas were only good after my friend asked for some toppings, a red sauce, cabbage, and onions with jalapeños. Best Spanish food locally!! Every meal I have ordered, it was SO GOOD that I want to order from them again within the same week! Fried Snapper is my favorite, red meat is always tender with very little fat on it, black beans, rice (always moist), BEST plantains in town (always soft, sweet, they just melt in your mouth & you always want a 2nd order because they are the best I have ever had!) basically everything you order from them, you will fall in love with there food!!! Last night I ventured in for the first time and it was great. Very friendly staff who gave samples of different fruit drinks and the food was steller. We had great steak, chicken and shrimp.
