This spot is in between Lake and Lucerne in Lake Worth Beach, not downtown, but in a more residential area east of 95. When I stopped by, there was only a couple of other people there, but plenty of parking in their lot or along the street. Seating is open air, with a patio, and prices are very reasonable. I had heard that their pupusas were good- and they were! Topping in a ziplock bag was creative, if a little strange. I would return to try their tacos. The bar area seating did not appeal to me- and we ordered at the bar, which is also something that doesn't appeal to me- but perhaps it would appeal to others. read more

This place left me speechless... in the best way. First thing you notice is the vibe. When we went, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It felt like hanging out in your abuela's patio. Super cozy and authentic. Ordering might be a little tricky if you do not speak Spanish, but the menu has English translations which really helps. Now the food... the pupusas were incredible, and the beer came ice cold with a lime already in it. But what really won me over was the price. For two people, the entire check with tip came out to just twenty dollars. That is almost unheard of in this economy. It is refreshing to see a small business that is not price gouging and actually cares. Definitely a hidden gem in Lake Worth. read more

This is a quaint neighborhood bar and restaurant, all patio style. It was close to the Art Fest on Sunday and I wanted to eat some pupusas and have parking before getting to the busy area. This spot was perfect!! We Sar at the bar for attentive service. Drinks were very reasonable, beer was only $4!! Our quick meals were very budget friendly and I got to try out a cool authentic pupusery. I was impressed with its Palm tree shades patio extension. Nice, airy, yet provided shade from the hot sun. Their parking lot was small. I opted to park across the street further east. My car was fine and the walk down Lake Ave was short. Service was friendly even when we had to use Google translate at times. Our food was excellent! I took some home to enjoy later at night. I was in the area of Lake Worth and was looking for somewhere to eat nearby, this popped up. I saw how it was an outside only seating area and it intrigued me alot . Looks like something I would see on almost any corner if I went back to my mom's home country. The vibe, the music and the outside area was what i expected, it was comforting and familiar almost. The food was great, I loved every bite and they bring some warm thick tortillas too. The only thing that absolutely sucked was the service. I went with my boyfriend and his dad and his dad tried to make friendly conversations with the waitress but she'd rudely look at him like he had 7 heads and would just ignore him. It upset me a lot, I even had to ask her if she was okay?. Other than the absolute terrible service. This place is great. read more

This is my new favorite spot. The outdoor tropical setting is relaxing and fun. The service is pretty quick and the food is authentic. I love the pupusas. Lots of locals mostly Hispanic with occasional other groups represented and welcomed. I recommend the natural fruit drinks: tamarindo or piña. The sign is hard to see from the street. I try to exercise daily and walk 2-3 miles, 4 days a week. On my route, I pass this spot and one evening it was crazy-packed so, I decided to see what the hype was all about. I went Saturday for lunch, sat outside on the very nice, shaded patio. That's where the compliments stop. When the server finally arrived, she wasn't pleasant. No smile, no welcome, just matter of fact. Took our order and came back with the food. Never checked in. Didn't ask if we wanted anything else, nothing. The food was great tasting, specially for the price. If you don't to enjoy eating outdoors better order to go...... the staff was friendly. They get a lot of traffic from regular and local customers which is a good sign. I ordered the lengua tacos and they were very good. Also had the "loca pupusa" (it has all the available ingredients) which was auténtica. Only the curtido could have used more fermenting. That's just my personal preference. read more

I drove by this spot a couple of times and it looked inviting with an outdoor patio that reminds me of something you would see in a Latin American country. So I eventually stopped in because I had a craving for some good Central American or Mexican food. I came to find out the food is Salvadoran and very authentic. Luckily they also speak English which is a plus. I've always wanted to try papusas which are like a thicker version of a corn tortilla that is stuffed with different combinations of ingredients, and man they didn't disappoint. I tried all 3. Meat with cheese, cheese, bean & cheese accompanied by some curtido which is a spicy pickled slaw and cabbage (the Salvadoran version of sauerkraut or kimchi), and some hot green and red salsa. I don't have anything really more clever to write here except for the fact that it was really good and satisfying. Definitely recommend this place and I'll be returning for sure. read more

Best soft corn tacos ever. Their loroco pupusa is delicious, and their tamales are so tender and flavorful. The menu is small and I've managed my way through nearly all of it and every dish has been superb. I especially like the pickled cabbage sides that come with some of the meals. Food is inexpensive but good quality. There's plenty of outdoor seating and a large covered area for those who are sun-tired. The staff is friendly and patient. Haven't had their flan yet but I'm looking forward to it. Definitely one of the better local hispanic joints. read more

I want to love this place because I went for the pupusas and they were excellent; the accompanying curtido was so fresh and snappy. These pupusas were not only as big as your face, they were stuffed. Revueltas are beans, meat and cheese all together. I've never had a cheesier, creamier pupusas. It was piping hot and cooked to perfection. The salsa roja was a little watery, but good. The corn tamales are the best and cooked perfectly. The crema was just the right amount of salty to go with the sweetness of the corn. They have a decent assortment of Domestic and Imported bottled beers. I don't believe they do draught beer at all, but it looks like they have those big machines that make frozen drinks. I was surprised that the pupusas came out as quickly as they did, but what a happy delivery. I asked my husband how the soup was, and he said "I'd give it a 6. It should have more vegetables." He's El Salvador born and raised, and I've tasted that soup in many other places. I found the broth to be a little thin and not as flavorful as others I've tasted. The corn tamale seemed to have been forgotten, so we simply reminded the waitress and it was brought out in short order. It was worth the wait. Carbonero is outdoor seating only, but it's almost entirely shade with ample ventilation from big fans that create a comforting breeze, even in the stifling humidity. The bathrooms are clean and well attended. The parking is limited in the lot, but there is ample street parking for the overflow. The tables are big and the chairs are comfortable - not just for skin-and-bones people. You could easily sit here for an hour or two, sipping beers and enjoying the company you've brought along. My problem started and ended with the waitress we had. I've worked in food service since I was a teenager. One thing I cannot stand is a server who doesn't smile or make eye contact. No "Hello," or "welcome" or "is this your first time here?" We were asked, "are you ready to order?" before we got menus. I said, "She looks and sounds like she doesn't want to be here." (Just my observation.) We had the menus for less than 5 minutes, and upon return with the 2 Modelos, we were asked again, "Are you ready to order?" I guess it would be fair to say she was attentive enough, but when I get to the end of this, you'll second guess that, too. We ordered 3 pupusas to share, a tamale de elote, and a big bowl of soup. When we asked for the check, we were billed for a completely different entree to the tune of $15. I asked, "were these pupusas $5 each?" Apparently, she keyed in "Heuvos Revueltos." Three times. We were billed for 3 beers, when we ordered only two. It took three trips to get this corrected. When we showed her the bill, she only laughed, seeming somewhat embarrassed. There's the smile that was missing. She returned with the corrected bill, leaving it on the table. "Aqui esta." She left the 3 beers on there, instead of deducting the extra one. She laughed again, and exclaimed, "Dios mio!" and chuckled all the way to the kitchen again. She returned once more with a hasty, "Aqui esta," dropping the bill once more, no eye contact, no smile, no nothing. That means, "here it is," en español, if don't habla español. I turned to my husband and said, "'Here it is' and 'Oh my God,' but not one 'I'm sorry for the mistake(s).'" That's just common courtesy to do that. I understand to err is human - been there, done that - but this rubbed me the wrong way. I also have a big problem with any kind of establishment that takes my credit card away and through a door to the kitchen (or any other place not in plain view.) Why isn't the register at the bar? The bar is right there, before the door to the kitchen. If it wasn't for the waitress, I'd give El Carbonero a 5. Sorry, but bad servers are a dime a dozen and the ruination of places like this with great potential. read more
