After 6 weeks, unfilled promises, and limited response- we picked our boat up and will not be coming back to this place for our boats future maintenance. Excellent customer service. I bought my 2018 Bayliner from someone out of the area and they still treat me like any other customer. I presented an issue with my boat's performance and reviewed my options to improve it. They did not try to upsell anything and were upfront. They even spent time calling the manufacturer to help track down an accessory we were interested in. read more

I strongly recommend against using this company. I took my 2019 Sea Ray to them for summer prep because they're an authorized Sea Ray service and they promised it would be finished in 2 weeks. I dropped it off in April, so it was before the last second rush. 2 weeks passed & I heard nothing from them. I called them & they promised it would be finished by the end of the week. Another week passed & I heard nothing. They did the same thing for 4 weeks straight, so I finally picked it up to take somewhere else. The only thing they had done to it was leave it outside for a month & a half to get filthy. There are plenty of other reliable places in town, I recommend giving one of them your business over Custom Boat. read more

Though they do good work, they were not upfront and honest with me. They gave me a price for the repairs and then someone in there company gave me a lower price for the repairs telling me it wasn't as bad as they thought, and when I picked the boat up it was even more than they quoted. There was ZERO communication the whole time they had the boat. Go ANYWHERE but there!!! read more

I went in today for some needed boating supplies with my small friendly dog as I have in the past. As soon as I set her down (on a leash), a very aggressive dog (looked like a pit bull mix) owned by one of the employees came out from behind the counter in full attack mode for my dog. I scooped her up fast enough, thankfully, as I could hear the dog's owner say; "pick up your dog!". There was no apology for a near mauling of my 10# dog or assurance I could enter the store and she would restrain her very aggressive dog. Instead I got an unpleasant look like I was the problem. So, clearly I was not welcome, so I left and had a great experience at Western Marine. This is a situation that is fraught with liability for Custom Boat and Marine to have an employee dog sitting an unrestrained and very aggressive dog around customers in a confined store. read more

Robb Reed is the real deal! Buying our boat from him was the largest purchase besides our home we have ever made, and it was the smoothest transaction and best buying experience we have ever had. It could not have gone any better than what it did, when our local dealer told us we were out of luck and they couldn't get us the boat exactly as we wanted I contacted Robb and he ordered the boat exactly as we wanted and at a lower price than the local dealership. We recently had a recall and this man delivered our boat to our door after the repair so we didn't have to make the 2 1/2 hour drive. That kind of customer service after you've already made the purchase is unheard in this day in age. He's also just one of the nicest guys you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. I recently had some work done on my boat (installed a chart plotter) and a few other odds and ends. I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came out slightly less than I expected and it included a couple hundred dollars in part I had not figured in. As background, I had a 48 foot Swan sailboat in San Francisco for the last 18 years, so I've had a fair amount of experience with boat repairs, shops, mechanics, dealers, etc. Based on what I asked them to do I thought the labor should run about 900 to 1000. The bill came in at 960 and that included ordering about 200 in parts I hadn't expected. I told them I needed it in and out the same day; I brought it in about 5PM the evening before and picked it up about 430 PM the next day. All the work they did seemed of good quality. I was very happy and will take all my boat repairs and maintenance to them. read more

I've had two horrible experiences with these mechanics, but this last one was the last straw for me. I drop my boat off to get my transmission rebuilt. when I talk to them on the phone they said yeah no problem drop it off will tell you what we think. They didn't even look at my boat for over a month and when they called me back they said it didn't need to be rebuilt but I needed to replace my prop strut which they charge me 10 hours of labor $1915 to do. I got three quotes from different shops that were up to $1,000 cheaper. A month and a half later I called them to check the status and they said that it sounded like a bearing needed to be replaced on the transmission. That was part of what I originally asked to have done. Then the mechanic proceeded to tell me that they don't even rebuild transmissions they'll only replace them for $5,000 and that was the whole reason I drop I took my boat there. Completely unprofessional and horrible service. There are plenty of better mechanics in the reno/Tahoe area I wouldn't take your boat here unless you want to overpay for unreliable work. read more

My wife and I stopped by to ask questions and look around. We spent 15 minutes starting in the showroom and looking at boats outside. No one greetd us or offered to be of service at any time. We did not see any other customers, just two employees engaged in a personal conversation. We waved to both but were ignored. They may know boats and be a great business to work with, but we'll be continuing our shopping elsewhere. read more

Who would have thought the up keep on a boat was so expensive! So we just moved here from Vegas so our boat was in the gross waters of Lake Mead. We needed to take the boat in to get ready for the summer. It needed all the fluid changed and the water pump? filter? heck something changed. So I called this place they told us it was $350.00 for the service. My husband asked for the water filter/pump whatever it is changed and they said that was another $250! I was like HOLY SHIT! so anyway they said the total service was going to be 750.00 OUCH! They called us yesterday to let us know it was all fixed and it was only going to be $575.00! While that is not cheap its MUCH better than $750.00. They said that it didn't take as long as expected and it was much easier to change then they thought. So I have to say that most companies would have charged us the full amount and we would not have known any better. The service department also had to dig the snow out of the boat. We dropped it off on Friday and then it snowed like 20 inches on Sunday! Of course we don't have a cover because we keep the boat in the garage. Its a good thing its a fish and ski boat so the snow did no damage. We are taking the boat this weekend to be inspected so we can take it to Tahoe this summer! read more

This is one of the best shops I have ever had to work with. I had an older bayline with the Force outboard engine and custom boat is one of the only shops to work on them. I had to have the engine completely checked out due to poor maintenance from previous owners. Custom boat was very thorough and found the issues and always let me know what was going on and my options which I was very pleased about. They took care of all my needs and we're very professional about the whole job. I can't say enough good things about the people at custom boat. Great shop to take your boat to. read more

Purchased a used boat through Custom Boat and Marine in 2017. Rob was wonderful, helping us throughout the purchase process. Advised us on insurance without pressure. We are first-timers and all the folks at Custom Boat and Marine have been helpful and patient with advice and service. We just dewinterized our boat for our first outing of the year and it wouldn't start. Called them and they listened to the cranking over the phone, gave us some advice and gave us an appointment, last minute to insure our boat would start. BTW took their advice and the boat started right up. But it is really nice to know these folks are there to help you, makes being a new owner a lot less scary. read more

This is my second review and I can't recommend Custom Boat & Marine highly enough. They made my first year of power boating a great success. Everyone (Dave, Brady, Rob, etc.) that I have interacted with has been helpful and trustworthy. I had a couple of issues (self inflicted or dumb luck) this summer and the CBM team did everything they could to help me out. One Saturday morning I was on the lake and I had a sensor that was going off and making a noise that was unbearable. Of course it was a day that we had guests coming to spend the day on the lake. I called and spoke to Dave (for @ 20 min) and he helped me troubleshoot the issue and solved the problem while we were on the water. He saved the day for us and our guests. That is the type of service I have received every time I have worked with the folks at CBM. I am very thankful I was referred to CBM by a friend who is a customer of theirs. They'll be doing the winterization on my boat and storing it for me this winter. I am very happy to be a customer. read more

Disappointed in so many ways. Tho the staff there are delightful, the service and follow thru is below..way below ,average. We took our boat for winter storage ( it has been running and operating top knot has til then) in fall 2016. Thye were not only shrink wrapping but" going over the whole boat to check everything out". No worries comes 2017 boat season. Picked the boat up after them saying it'd been detailed inside and out, and that all operating parts of boat had been checked and were at top performance.."ready to go". Also purchased new canopy from them. The very..very..first day we took the boat out after storage and "service"... the engine died..,couldn't even get away from launch ramp. Some Good Samaritans rescued us and we were Bal ego get boat back onto the trailer...our first day out was a debacle! We trusted this company and no we think shouldn't have . Not only was boat inoperanle but interior had obviously not been detailed, and the NEW canopy thye put on had loose screws so that the frame came apart and the canvas tore. Took boat back to them and thye are no saying even tho boat had operated at high performance when we left it for the winter...thta its breakdown is a fluke . Thye say they checked the boat out operationally just prior to our pick up....now they want 1500.00 for a carburetor repair...,thta they supposedly checked out prior to our pickup! We wee stranded on lake Thaoe for a couple hours u til a good samaratin arrived and towed us.....lost operations only about 10 minutes from launch ramp. We paid quite a bit $ for their expertise and assurance of the boats soundness.....anyone think this is some sort of scam? Also the non detail of interior and the faulty new canopy...who can anyone's trust anymore? DO NOT use this company! read more

The 2 reviews here are from folks that purchased a boat from C.M.. BEWARE !!! If you need help with parts, be prepared to be forgotten, ignored at the store, no matter how far you travel to shop there, and then receive little or no respect. This place may look good on the outside, but it's the customer service that ultimately gets you back. Word of mouth will not be good about C.M. in Lassen County. First hand advice is, don't bother wasting your time. Go elsewhere. NO STAR REVIEW. It wouldn't let us post no star. read more
