We wanted new blinds for our bedroom. Kriss Novak was very professional and helpful with our initial phone planning, then came to our house on schedule to measure the windows and provide options for designs and color. She returned as planned on time with an installer who removed the old blinds and put up the new ones. The work was done perfectly. My issues with a Kriss are: 1. No design fee was ever discussed, and 2. She got very upset and nasty when I said he couldn't afford the window treatments. I had Kriss come give a quote for window treatments at my sons house. Her website said free consultation. I gave her a deposit check but asked her that day, then again by text that afternoon and the next morning to hold the check because my son had to make the final decision. She immediately deposited the check. I did get a check back from her minus a $150 consultation fee. My son decided he really did not have the money right now to move forward with custom window treatments despite how much he would have liked to. A professional would never send the kinds of texts she sent to me or take a $150 consultation fee without stating there was one right up front. BEWARE, she isn't truthful. read more

My mother, 92, moved into an independent living apartment. She needed a window treatment for a 101" wide rectangular bay window with existing vertical blinds. She was given a recommendation for Custom Curtains by Design. I believe it was Kris Novak that came to my mother's apartment and proposed a valance. The cost was $871. But good news... She told my mother that if she did not mention it to the company, she'd discount the sales tax. From what I see on the webpage, she *is* the company. She provided a plain tan unlined waterfall type valance using what my mother was told was inexpensive fabric, $21/yd, that was stapled to two uncovered boards with a loosely attached bracket between them. The valance was too narrow for the window, and the swags butted to each other with almost no overlap. You could also see where she pulled out a hem and re-sewed it, and overall the swag pleats were not crisp, more saggy and pulled. I've had several swag-style valances made by three different decorators over the years. These were by far the worst looking, most poorly put together, and most expensive, even when accounting for inflation. Yes, that's what my mother got for eight hundred and seventy-one dollars. While my mother was in rehab for a fall, I called Kris. After a long discussion, she did agree to re-do the valance. She was 45 minutes late to uninstall the valence, but other than that, it went well. After 8 weeks she and her son came back to reinstall the valance and it was still too narrow, and I mean like 8 inches too narrow, so they left with it. Another month went by, she and her son came back to install again, again she was extremely late, maybe an hour. She did add spacers to hide the narrow swags That allowed for the additional width, and it did look much better, not professional, but much better than it looked originally. She had the nerve to complain that she had to buy 3 more yards of fabric. But... this time the valance was too wide. The son took out a keyhole saw, opened up the now covered plank of wood and took off almost a half inch and folded the covering back sort of into place. The son then tried to use, what was maybe, a standard drill bit to drill into a metal header (used in the floor-to-ceiling bay windows in the high rise building). After realizing his drill was in reverse, he broke a bit. It took him at least 4 drill bits. I'm not exactly sure since there was a point where I left the room to avoid either laughing or screaming. When I asked about steaming the wrinkles out, she said the polyester fabric would stain. I guess at this point I just wanted her out of my life. In summary, this woman basically tried to soak my legally-blind, elderly mother. Shame on her. I would not recommend this woman, or her 'company'. read more

My husband and I built a new home recently and therefor needed to purchase window treatments through out. After shopping around, I decided to do business with Kriss Novak of Custom Curtains by Design. She came to our home with a van full of samples and after walking through the house Kriss had a good idea of what I had in mind for my interior design. Kriss knew her products well and showed me the fabrics that she thought would compliment my home. I am a person that has difficulty deciding on something that is going to cost alot and I am going to be looking at for a long time, but with her help we chose a pleated valance over my dining room bay window, and she also made a custom cushion for the window seat beneath, The window seat is roughly ten feet long. Later I did get her to make seat cushions for my dining room chairs. They were much better than those purchased in the dept. stores. Kriss also made treatments for my bedroom and they too turned out beautiful. I am going to contract with her again to complete the rest of the bedrooms soon. My experience with Kriss and her company was top notch and she was very professional. She delivered her product in a timely fashion and the installation was a breeze. I recommend Custom Curtains by Design to everyone I meet who is looking for window treatments. I give her five stars. read more

Just wanted to say what a pleasure my whole experience with Ms. Novak was. First of all the price was much lower that the few other companies that I talked to because I am sure you know that having a nice custom job that will last a lifetime is not cheap. I was just tiered of dealing with those cheap assembly line curtains and decided to finally get exactly what I had dreamed of instead of just whatever I found that I thought would do the job from off the shelves at home depot. And kriss made the whole thing a breeze she knew exactly what I wanted and together we made my picture of what I wanted in my mind a reality. She was very professional and came out to show me all the options I had available and what different thing we could do to see what I thought would work the best not to mention she had some great ideas about how the valances should lay . When it came time to install the curtains her and her very knowledgeable installer came out and took care of everything they were very responsive to my needs and and what would be best for me. I can not believe the quality of the hardware and rods you can tell they will last a long time and I won't have to worry about having to fix them in 5 or 10 years like the rods and blinds I have had before all ways do. Anyway I do not normally write reviews but I just felt I had to because everyone is all ways so quick to write bad reviews anytime anything little goes wrong but normally won't do the same when the have a good experience and I was really expressed with the quality of product I have received along with the professional attitude I received through it all and thought I needed to let people know about it. read more
