If you're looking for a white glove customer service experience, and amazing glasses before you walk out, this is the place! I've previously been to the location on LaSalle, but honestly, my experience at this location blew it out of the water! The optometrist was pretty good, but it was Jeremy, one of the experts in the front, who made the experience for me. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, extremely patient and accommodating. I received my contacts and pair of glasses in less than a week, and overall, I'm extremely satisfied. Highly recommend! read more

If you are looking for a pair of frames like Oprah's or some other celebrity's frames then you will most likely find them here or find something very similar. And you will probably pay the same price as Oprah did, hence they are not cheap. However, I came to Custom Eyes because I was looking for a new Optometrist. My current glasses from another place just weren't working so I thought to get a second opinion and I am so glad I did! I saw two optometrists but I really liked Dr. Genna. She seemed to really hear my needs and understand what I was looking for rather than providing a prescrpition that was too strong or not suited for me. I also like that Custom Eyes is independent of Luxottica, you know, the company that dominates the eyewear industry from Oakley to LensCrafters (60 Minutes did an eye-opening segment on Luxottica a few years ago). So, I have found the quality of the glasses to be good or better than my previous ones. The customer service at the counter, however, can be hit or miss. Since I had to go a few times I noticed somedays they were On while other days they were Off, but not to the point I wouldn't go back. When they were Off they seemed to be a bit impatient and sometimes talked down to the customers. When they were On they seemed to be more accommodating to the customers. Came here for some issues with my vision after a procedure. Turns out everything was fine but I was so thankful Custom Eyes was open and able to see me in a pinch - I looked for so many stores on a sunday and they came to the rescue. Appointments are thorough but quick (which is what you want anyway from an eye exam). They have a large selection of frames which I may revisit next year when I need new ones. I appreciate that they try to run their operations efficiently. I only had to wait a day to get my contact order in. read more

It would make sense to review an optometrist as my first review of...2020. :) I really enjoyed the experience here. My optometrist was welcoming and helpful. To check my eye pressure, we did the disconcerting "air puff into your eyes" test, and I am not sure I was adequately prepared for that, but oh well. The optometrist showed me what the different tools did, and I liked getting the full story about what the different scans of my eyeball showed. The salespeople push glasses on you a bit, but it's not too much at all. read more

Randomly walked into Custom Eyes after having lost my only pair of prescription glasses that I've had for several years. Received a warm welcome by their staff and had the pleasure of being helped by Jay Dissi, one of their opticians. Jay was incredibly knowledgeable re the different kinds of frames and designers and I loved that he took the time to listen to my preferences. He helped grab all the frames I was interested in (great selection of high quality frames, btw) and even suggested a few that I may not have picked but ended up liking because he based them off my style. He was attentive, honest and informative. When I didn't have my prescription on hand, he helped me look up my past eye doctor and reached out to them on my behalf. Liked the way he explained each line item of the overall cost including what the insurance would cover and even offered me a discount for buying two pairs that day. Rusty and Speed were really nice. They greeted me when I walked in the store and did a great job of making my experience fun and informative. My first interaction was with Speed. He informed me of lens quality and provided me with solutions that will fit my needs and wants. My last interaction was with Rusty. He had amazing knowledge about the different brands history and quality. Overall I am super impressed with the process and very happy with my choice. read more

Meh. I'm almost always in the market for a new pair of specs. How many pairs of glasses does one woman need? Apparently at least 9 (but let's not limit me, ok?). So I stopped into Custom Eyes while wandering about one day and the back and forth with the gentlemen went like this: Me: I'm looking for a pair of black glasses to replace these, they're pretty old and I don't love them anymore. Him: Yeah, those are pretty bad. Here, try these (hands me a pair of cat eye frames) Me: Cat eye frames aren't very flattering on me (try them on, don't like them) Him: You still think you don't like them? Me: Yes. I have about 8 pairs of glasses, and I'm looking for black frames, probably a rectangular frame. Him: All the frames you're trying on are very masculine (hands me another pair of cat eye frames which I don't try on). Me: Do you have any that don't protrude as much as these do? (Pointing to where the hinge stuck out from the frame) Him: Those are hinges. All glasses have hinges. This is the point I decided it was time to leave. But! I went back a different day. I really liked the Lindburgh glasses they had and wanted to try more of them on. A different gentlemen helped me the second time around and it went like this: Me: I like the Lindburgh frames. Can I try this pair on? Him: Sure (and starts to tell me what the frames are made of) Me: Do these come in other colors? (there are like 15ish pairs that are clearly the same material in one row, and next to them another row of 15ish that are different) Him: It depends on if they are the composite or the metal....(telling me about what they're made of). Me: But these are all the same, right? (points at one row of the plastic looking frames) Him: Well, they're all different shapes. This is when I decided to leave a second time. Now, I'm not saying I'm in Mensa, but I think it's fair to assume after speaking with me that I'm not a complete moron. I know glasses have hinges. I also know they can be flush with the frame. I can tell ovals, rectangles, squares, etc. apart. I love the glasses they have here. The way these two gentlemen spoke to me was fairly rude. Luckily, they have another store not too far away where the salespeople are pleasant and helpful. read more

Love, love, love this place and the people that go along with it!!! Definitely not a store built for the "basic b*tch." I'm pretty picky when it comes to the overall shopping "experience." I've bought 2 pairs of sunglasses in less than 6 months from here. Jackie slays and has helped me both times, and Rus (rusty) joined in on my shopping shenanigans this past time! Let's face it, when you want an enhanced shopping experience, you need the right people. This store supersedes any customers' expectations! The customer service is second to none, with all the best frames under one roof. I plan on purchasing sunglasses no where else but here. The end. read more

They have mastered the art of customer service that's for sure. Even the office beautiful! I was so pleased with the staff here at custom eyes! The absolute best!! I had an emergency (felt like a contact was stuck in my eye) and they took me the same day without hassle. Not to mention--the only eye doctor in the area open on Sundays. Dr. Higbee was very professional and did a thorough job to find my contact. While my eye ended up being enflamed instead-- she told me all the precautions and when to seek additional care. She put me at ease during the visit. I've had several great experiences here. The first was one day my husband woke up with a floater (new and his first one). It was a weekend and we were concerned, I found this place online and it was easy to make a same day appointment on a Saturday. We saw Dr. Genna Higbee and she was AWESOME, did such a thorough eye exam, explained everything really well. I liked her so much I ended up coming back for my own eye exam. Very easy to make a same day appointment, they seem to have a lot of openings. The glasses here are very expensive (WITH my insurance I ended up paying $400 for everything) but they have a huge selection and I had been to 3+ other places looking for glasses including Warby Parker multiple times trying on everything and hadn't found anything and literally the guy behind the counter looked at my face and my old pair of glasses (so he could tell what I was looking for) and the FIRST pair he picked out I loved and purchased. So if you value your time and want a professional opinion on what looks good this is a great place to go. Easy to purchase contacts through my insurance as well. I'm writing a quick follow up review to reflect a positive customer experience interaction since my initial review. Custom Eyes followed up after reading my review and apologized for the mistake and explained that since the contacts were shipped directly to me, they didn't have a chance to double check that they were the correct lenses. They also offered to replace the contacts with the correct ones for free which I took them up on, so financially I didn't end up any worse off because of the mistake. I appreciated them reaching out and fixing that part of the situation. Obviously they can't do anything about the fact that I was wearing bad contacts for almost a year to the detriment of my eyes but mistakes happen and they at least did the best thing they could offer. As I said initially, they've got a good selection of frames and I've generally had good service so I wouldn't necessarily say don't go but just maybe double check all the details if you do. read more

Actually, when booking an online appointment, you can choose your preferred location, which is how I found out about the State Street one. This weird weather we've been having had taken a toll on my old-lady eyes (I kid). My eyes were constantly watering for more than a week, off and on, and I looked like I had been watching My Girl for days (one movie that consistently makes me cry and get all crazy puffy eyes). I set up an appointment once and then had to cancel due to a work thing. The system is pretty easy peasy, I think. Finally, when I couldn't take it anymore, I scheduled again during my lunch hour. Dr. Sculley was available and did the whole check-up thing because it had been a while since my last visit. He also took a look at my eye glasses and prescription, and thankfully nothing's changed much. We then discussed my teary-eyed issue and found out I was one of many who had come in recently with the same issue. He suggested a certain kind of OTC eye drops (that worked), and I was on my merry way in under an hour. It's a pretty nice location - with lots of eye wear options like the other location. It's also convenient for those who take the 36 Broadway bus, because the stop is a few steps right outside. read more
