One of the physicians at Kraft Institute solved a long term and regularly irritatingly problem for me. My eyes itched as I woke up, in the afternoon, at field work at nature center, at night - almost all darn day. Other physicians and PAs have suggested allergy medications, ointments and ocular specialists. Failing to find such a physician in my own service, I chose a specialist based on Yelp and Google reviews. He noted an irritation on the edge of the eyelid and suggested cleaning with baby shampoo followed by warm compresses as necessary. Son-of-a-gun, it worked!!!!! read more

I got LASIK recently and did well with it. But there is simply no excuse for making patients wait 30-60 minutes to be seen by anyone. Period. And that is just the FIRST waiting room. Then there are at least 2 other places to wait for a total of an hour and a half usually. You need better scheduling so that people during a workday aren't forced to take off half a day. read more

My optometrist at first recommended Dr Kraft and then revoked her recommendation because he is difficult. I disregarded her because generally I don't care if a doctor is difficult (aren't they all annoying) as long as he gets the job done. Well, my cataract surgery ended up a year later with a torn retina and I remember Dr Kraft throwing a hissy fit during my surgery that I wasn't competing while under anesthesia. Bottom line, I was blind in one eye within a year and now, despite a vitrectomy, I have to perform my financial analyst duties with just one eye. So no I would not recommend. Made an appointment expecting to see an ophthalmologist for a dilation and full exam. Instead was told I'd see an optometrist. What I got was an "intern" who was neither. When I asked when the optometrist would be in, the intern told me he would do the full exam and the optometrist would check in at the end. Asked to speak to the optometrist, who said the intern was better at doing the eye exams. I cancelled the exam and left. What a waste of time and effort. read more

Well, if you make an appointment with one of the doctors, only to be seen by an intern and only 3 minutes by the doctor, go to the KRAFF EYE institute. Absolutely no disclosure that I would be seeing an intern instead of who I was supposed to see. i didn't even knew I was seen by an intern until I asked him who he was...the doctor lite came In The room for 3-4 minutes total At the end. Dr Coleman Kraff is truly a wonder. For years I have spent a small fortune on purchasing eye glasses. Reading, long distance and progressives where most recently I spent my days lifting the glasses up, down and in the middle of my face in an attempt to see. Although I have had astigmatism all my life when told so a prescription for another pair of glasses seemed to be the normal thing for my Optometrists to do. Well, no one ever mentioned the option of corrective vision surgery to address the astigmatism. Now that I am older I needed cataract surgery to address the transparent clouds floating across my eyes blocking the little vision I had along with my constantly trying to remember where in the world I placed my glasses. He truly has a team of professional staff members which take their time with you as they do the preliminary work up prior to you seeing Dr Kraff. I must give a shout out to Justin one of many staff personnel and Denise, who will address any finance, scheduling and general follow-up questions you may have. I continue to mention to folks, in general, it is important that you be your own advocate and find those that will listen to what you have to say. This team at 25 E. Washington does so. After having both eyes done most recently, I see the world differently. It is a beautiful bright place. If you are looking for excellence in vision correction-related services make an appointment and ask for Dr. Coleman Kraff who has not only addressed my cataracts but the astigmatism as well. I had Lasik on 2/2/2023, performed by Dr. Colman Kraff, and highly recommend Kraff Eye Institute! After considering Lasik for a few years, I went for a consult in mid-January. At that time, they performed a number of eye tests to determine if I was a candidate for the surgery. The techs working there were all friendly, professional, and able to answer any questions. Following these tests, Dr. Kraff came in, took a look at my eyes and test results, then discussed my work, activities, and goals for my vision. While our conversation was brief, it was very clear to me that he sincerely desires positive outcomes for every patient (This was further reinforced when I overheard him telling another patient that he did not think surgery would help her issue and recommended that she purchase specific reading glasses on amazon!). At the consult, I was informed that I could not wear contacts for 14 days (!!) prior to the surgery - this was honestly the most annoying part of the whole process. For people who do not have astigmatism, the glasses-only period is shorter. At the consult, they also provided clear pricing information, and let me know that I should contact my vision insurance, as sometimes they have a cheaper negotiated rate, which KEI would honor. TIP: Do this first. They will provide you with several options in your area. I scheduled my surgery for 16 days from the date of the consult (surgery days are Thursdays and Fridays). Two days prior to the surgery, I returned for my pre-op testing, which took around 90 minutes. They took a ton of measurements of my eyes, dilated my eyes, and Dr. Kraff came in to answer any last questions. He confirmed that everything looked good to go. On the way out, another super friendly staff member gave me a "day-of" checklist, waiver form to take home and sign, parking information, etc. The morning of the surgery, we arrived at 8am, got our parking validated, had a few final tests run, paid the surgery cost, and then I was given a Valium to take. Two other patients were there before me, so I had plenty of time for it to kick in. Each of them were called back for their surgeries, which lasted 15-20 min, then it was my turn. Thanks to Valium and constant numbing drops, it was honestly not that bad. Some pressure when the flap was cut, but that was it. Odd sensation to see things happening to your eyeball, but not terrible. Immediately after the surgery, they walked me to a post-op room, where I was shown how to put my prescription drops in and given additional instructions. This place is a well-oiled machine, which I found very reassuring! The following morning, I went back for my post-op check, and my vision was just shy of 20/15 in both eyes - amazing! They cleared me for most activities, and scheduled me to come back in a week. Overall, you can tell this place does A LOT of vision correction surgeries, so they are efficient, quick, and very structured. In spite of the large number of patients, Dr. Kraff assesses each one's individual needs and cares about them having a successful outcome. Highly recommend!! read more

In my Nike voice...JUST DO IT! - 2 weeks post-op review. Let me start off by saying I have worn glasses since 3rd grade and contacts (started with hard lenses) since about 7th grade. I am now 36 years young and debated this surgery for about 10 years. I conducted soooooo much research around this, watched tons of videos, but shied away from for two reasons 1. The investment, 2. Straight nerves and a cute new pair of glasses... that I eventually grew to hate in less than 2months of purchasing them. Nonetheless, my journey to LASIK was actually a quick no brainer that I am mostly mainly more embarrassed than anything it took so long to pull the trigger. My journey started with yelping Dr. Toader over at Market Place Vision on Halsted to schedule my annual eye exam. I showed up to my appointment and instantly connected with Dr. Toader (check out my review over at Market Place vision for more deets). I was very upfront with her about my interest in LASIK and not only did she listen and put me at ease, but she also expressed that she had a relationship with The Kraff Institute. This was the one LASIK establishment that I had never had a consult with in the past, so I was interested to learn more and it is a huge plus that Dr. Kraff is the Opthamalogists for the Chicago Bears! The next day and after toiling back and forth, doing research and honestly scheduling 3 "other LASIK" consults with places, I have consulted in the past, finally mustered up the courage and I called Dr. Kraff's office. They were able to get me in pretty quickly and their offices are conveniently located downtown. They also comp parking which a block or two over. Upon my arrival which was on a Thursday, I was greeted by Callie who was super chill. She walked me through another series of testing and checked my records from Dr. Toader. She patiently answered all questions I had and we walked through payment with options to pay. The total cost was around $4,000.00 and I put most of this on my CareCredit..0% interested for a whole year, WOOT WOOT!! I met the infamous Dr. Kraff for a final look and last-minute questions. Then came the big question of when would you like to come in?? I jokingly said..Today is cool! BUUUUTTTTT Callie did not come to play and responded by saying...OHH, we have a cancelation for tomorrow at 9:15 am, would that work?? lol. Hey, that's exactly what I get for playing. I quickly confirmed as my stomach was in total knots, palms sweaty but I needed to get this done. I also felt relief knowing that not only would the surgery be quick but that I could see good enough to Uber or Cab home afterward. Okay, let's fast-forward to the good stuff. I did not sleep yall, due to so much anxiety...I woke up to the day of my surgery energetic and ready. I caught a Lyft to the office, who was totally loud and ridiculous for a Friday morning *rolls eyes. But upon arrival, there was a sense of calmness. I met with Emily who was really sweet as she began to run another series of testing to ensure as much accuracy as possible. So realistically speaking, you don't really start the surgery until about an hour in. Once everything checks out, Dr. Kraff comes to check out the final deets, the front desk provides a valium, and it's a waiting game from there until showtime! Once it's time to get started, James who is hilariously entertaining keeps your spirits high as your valium kicks in further lol. As the valium settles in Dr. Kraff shows up and begins to tape your eyes to lift the flap for the first part of the surgery which probably takes about a minute or more and eye and can feel like a pressure headache depending on your prescription. I had around a -7.50 in the left eye with astigmatism and a -6.25 in my right...slight astigmatism. My left eye has always been troubling so during this process this eye gave me a time and really did not like this much but pushed through it. After the first part was complete, I followed James to another room for the finale. I laid on a table and stared at the very small orange light as 40 seconds count down for each eye. Once you are done it's hazy but James is the first person you see ;-)! I felt weird but was able to stand, walk, and hear the last details around what to and what to not do before being released to go home. Two weeks later and two follow-up appts (one with Dr. Kraff the day after surgery and my weekly follow-up with Dr. Toader). I must say that I am adjusting to LASIK well. My recommendation for anyone interested would be to follow instructions to a science. Use your drops, wear your night goggles, re-wet the heck out of your eyes, and although you can see right away... it's still surgery. Give your eyes and body a chance to heal. Take off work, put your phone and computer down and let the beat play. Lonnnnngggggg story short HHAAAHHAA!! I strongly recommend this place for anyone considering LASIK. I had my procedure JUST YESTERDAY and I'm already confident this is the best decision of my life to have my LASIK done at Kraff Eye Institute. All of the staff members are so knowledgeable and kind and I felt their excitement for me as I walked in for my procedure. While the procedure was going on, they walk you through every step, no surprises. A couple hours after my lasik procedure, I experienced some burning and tearing which are normal side effects that I was already aware of. Those symptoms resolved within a couple of hours. Waking up this morning being able to see crystal clear was something i'll never forget. After my quick and easy post op exam, I learned I now have 20/15 vision. In 2020-09, I underwent LASIK to correct my near-sighted vision (-7 in each eye with contacts). At the time, I wasn't able to work or do basic life functions without glasses or contacts. After a single treatment for both eyes, I came out with 20/20 vision and no notable issues apart from mild starbursts and reduced night vision, both of which have since diminished to the point of being imperceptible. I have been a patient of Kraff Eye Institute for 20+ years, and was a patient of Dr Kraff's dad in the Old Irving Park neighborhood as a child. I loved seeing Dr Kraff, both because of his knowledge and demeanor as well as because my eyesight is poor and I want to see an ophthalmologist. After putting it off for a few years out of nervousness because IT'S MY EYES, I took the leap in 2017 and went in for a consult, after several friends were having LASIK done themselves without complaint. After meeting with the staff and assuring LASIK was right for my eyes, we set the date. On March 9, 2017, I went in and it was a decision I did not regret! Because I was a daily contact wearer it was recommended to wear my glasses for a week to let my eyes relax - I went without them for 2 just to be safe. The morning was relaxing, you have a nice waiting room to sit in where they offer beverages and snacks while you wait. Once they call you in, you will go through the eye pressure tests again and they remeasure your eyes, to ensure the procedure is performed correctly; no sense using month old measurements and having to come back. After this, you go into another room where they begin the prep. The numbing drops were super cold but it was okay because my nerves were going (the Valium didn't kick in until an hour AFTER I was home - this is normal for me though) and I had no idea what to really expect outside of YouTube videos I'd seen. They come back periodically and redo the drops then the procedure starts - the suction thing was WEIRD, like suction cups on your arm. Next, you go into the actual room, that is dark but you can see-though at this point everything will be fuzzy. My dad was my escort for the day and watched from the window (he says he recorded it but never sent me the video). Basically, you stare at the orange light, even though it's fuzzy then TA-DA! You can focus on the beam and you feel the refreshing coolness as Dr. Kraft does his thing. Afterward, you carefully walk back into the exam room where they have you read the chart and go over how to use the medications. You leave with a snazzy pair of sunglasses and the amazement of seeing State street clearly for the first time in YEARS without contacts or glasses. It's now been just over 2 years and my vision has remained the same as the day I had LASIK - I would say I do have a slight sensitivity to the sun now, but it's not to the point where I cant enjoy a day at the beach (now living in Hawaii). Because I have allergies, I keep the refresh drops with me at all times because even though I AM healed, I am terrified to rub my eyes lol! The healing time afterward wasn't bad at all - I ended up only using the ibuprofen because the stronger stuff made me sick and there really wasn't any pain. I did learn that I sleep with my eyes open when I went in for the healing follow-ups which just meant wearing an eye mask at night to prevent weird dryness. Other than that, super happy I made the decision! For those worried about paying, they take CareCredit so you can pay for it monthly instead of all at one time...I already had the card for vet purposes for my cats. They did warn that I may have a change in vision if I ever decide to get pregnant, but that's pretty normal for anyone. If it happens, I know its hormonal, not something that went wrong. Came in here because my eye was having some issues - made me wait in the waiting room 30 min and then I got to the room and another 30-40 min wait with no communication of any kind! I come out of the room trying to find someone and no one is coming. Finally doctor comes in and I explain the issue with my eye - they tear my eyelid literally bleeding and am told sorry we can't do anything because your eye is inflamed. Come back again in a couple weeks. Meanwhile my eyelid is bleeding and they wasted 2 hours of my day. Was the same issue with other people in the waiting room. Everyone was waiting crazy amounts of time and you know we all have to get back to work to be able to afford to come here but they have NO respect for our time. So then I pay my copay and had them double check the amount and then they have the audacity to send me a bill for more money beyond my copay. I am never going back. What a scam of a place! read more

I thought long and hard for several years before I finally decided to get lasik. I was really sick of wearing contacts and dealing with how dry they made my eyes and the constant need to order more of them. I found Dr. Kraff through several referrals at work, and despite their high recommendations Dr. Kraff superseded all expectations. His office is run like a well oiled machine. There are 2 separate sides to it to keep things running really smoothly and efficiently, which is great and helps the patients from waiting in a long line or feeling crowded. From my first email, I spoke with someone named Callie, who was one of the nicest and most patient people I've ever met. I was excited that not only was she the person who responded to my many emails, but she was also the person who I met in the office who did the preliminary things and answered my questions. I felt super comfortable knowing I would be with the same person throughout the process. I even felt badly for taking up SO much of her time with all of my questions, but she spent as much time with me as I needed, both on the day of the surgery and appointments leading up to it. Dr. Kraff was equally amazing. At no point did he ever make me feel rushed, nervous or pressured. He remembered me throughout each visit, asking me specific questions about my job, family and activities I'd told him about. I had PRK performed the summer of 2019. My vision was bad before (-7) in both eyes. I can see so much more clearly. The team was informative and professional. My only complaint is the side effects. I now have a mild case of recurrent corneal erosion which causes my eyelid to stick to my eye when I sleep. The pain used to be moderate but it is now mild. Eye drops and ointments help but it's been almost two years and although there is progress it is really slow. Despite the eye sticking, I am still glad I got the procedure. My vision and overall quality of life improved. Just be aware one may have side effects such as bad night vision, halos, floaters, or in my case RCE. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Kraff and Kraff Eye Institute. I had my PRK surgery a year ago and just finished my last follow up visit, with 20/15 vision! The entire world truly is in high definition now. Aside from the amazing results, Dr. Kraff is careful to explain risks when evaluating patient's eligibility for surgery, and he will not recommend that a high risk patient move forward. This is critical in selecting a doctor. Dr. Kraff is a pioneer in this area, and he continues to work because he loves it, and he is changing lives. I know so many people who went to other vision correction centers to save money and ended up with complications. It is just not worth it in my opinion to trust anyone other than Dr. Kraff. I have done my Lasik correction about a month ago and want to say that I'm happy with all the experience I had with Kraff Eye Institute! All the staff looks very qualified, confident and crafted. Even though I can tell they have these operations put on stream - they didn't lose the personal touch and understand that this is a big step for each person that comes there. I was pleasantly surprised to meet Dr. Kraff himself on my pre-screen exam! I'm pretty sure he is a busy person, but still takes time to meet everyone! Everyone there was very nice and professional with me and patiently answered any question I had. I don't think I've ever waited for my appointment for more than 5 mins. I also love that they didn't only tell me what I had to do, but also wrote it down, so I wouldn't forget. :) They also supplied me with everything I needed. They prepared me what to expect during and after the surgery, so no surprises were there. The only surprise was that it didn't hurt at all!!! Ever. Not yet sure if I have 20/20 vision, cause it's still getting better and better, but I threw away my glasses the day of surgery and haven't felt like I needed any since then. I wasn't even able to have the doctor check me for my core area of concern because the tech had already dilated my pupils! The doctor didn't seem to care too much about the gaffe, but I don't know what I paid my copay for. Total waste of money. For $669 I got an eye exam. This included eye dilation, the pressure thing, and reading off a chart. I asked for a break down of charges sent to me, but never received it via email or snail mail. I asked for this break down because for nearly 700 bucks, I would like to know exactly why it cost that much. I know this is a private office, this is not lenscrafters, but still..shy of $700 bucks seems extremely excessive and then not to get a break down of charges is unprofessional. Especially since I specifically asked for this, even gave (again) my email. I do recall calling in advance to see what the charge for an exam would be, I don't recall it being this high. I could not be happier with the results of my PRK surgery with Dr. Kraff. I am ~6 month's post surgery and my vision is better than it's been my entire life (including corrected by contacts and glasses). I checked out Dr. Kraff based on a few recommendations from friends and his impressive history performing the procedure. Dr. Kraff did my consultation and told me that I may not be a candidate for LASIK but I may for PRK. I was a bit nervous but I went through with the surgery. My healing process was a little slower than is typical and it definitely made me anxious. But Dr. Kraff was there with me for every single post-op visit and assured me that it was healing right (albeit a bit slow). After the initial few weeks my vision started healing rapidly and I was BEYOND happy with the results. This procedure may not be for everyone and different factors may increase the risks.
