Called to make an appointment. Ok, I was asked to contact my insurance to see if I needed a prescription. I explain to the individual on the phone that I was in excruciating pain. They said not to worry and to get the information needed for my insurance company. When I called back to explain that I didn't need a prescription and to schedule an appointment, I was told by a different individual that they require a prescription, and aren't scheduling appointments 30 days out. Thanks for nothing. My strong recommendation is do not waste your time here. Their therapists may be fantastic but their customer service is absolute garbage. read more

I've gotten 15 minutes of actual therapy time or less on pretty much every occasion by the owner herself (Angela) no less. To make matters worse, I've waited up to 35 minutes to see her. Most often it would be about 15-20 minutes. To wait that long for so little time with a therapist is disrespectful to the patient. Most of the time will be spent with an aide or on a heating pack. It feels like she books 3-4 patients an hour for herself. After having an aide cause me intense pain one day, I decided to ask the aides who trains them and they said that the senior aides (one of the ones who caused me pain by the way) train the newer aides. Are you kidding me?!? People with no credentials are training other people who have no idea what they're doing?!I highly recommend going elsewhere if you have any desire to heal. I'm kind of surprised by the glowing reviews. read more

I never got results here. The initial evaluation was mostly on a computer and it sucked in my opinion. The Woodland Hills location has terrific office staff but this location has gossipy hens that erroniously told me it would take 2 weeks to get in for my 1st appointment. When I arrived, the wait was long and I had to listen the office staff say bad things about their team members. It made me sick to my stomach. Wifey, who has a connective tissue disease, continues her lucky streak with Custom Physical Therapy, in this case the fantastic DPT Bieta Kia. Her quality of life has improved immensely after seeing Dr Kia regularly. Wifey follows Dr Kia's instructions and they really work - everything from putting a small ball under her back, to getting fascia expertly manipulated by this amazing PT. Today, I dropped off wifey at the facility - she was complaining of serious sciatic pain - I picked her up an hour later and she was disco dancing down the parking lot! Disco dancing! Dr. Angela Spruill is basically a miracle worker in my book! I suffered a broken sacrum in a very bad fall from a horse nearly 2 years ago. That means that for 2 years I've barely been able to walk without pain, but I've been sucking it up and dealing since I felt grateful just to not be paralyzed. I didn't really think a physical therapist could do much for me, since my previous PT experiences (for other injuries...I play a lot of sports) mainly involved weird exercises that didn't seem to help. Was I ever wrong! Seriously, I'm 6 weeks in to treatment with Dr. Angela, and I had my first pain-free days since 2012 last week. It felt incredible. There really aren't adequate words to describe how it feels to be given a huge chunk of your life back. Dr. Angela listens to all of my concerns and thoughts, and she's a good conversationalist too. Her assistants are all very professional and good at soft tissue work, and the front desk staff is pleasant and helpful. All in all, a great experience. If you're suffering from pain that you think is pretty much permanent, do yourself a favor and at least get an evaluation from Custom. I have never been to a physical therapist and had always gone to a chiropractor for pain and other issues. I will never go to a chiropractor again. My wife had gone to see Mike a couple of years ago and ranted and raved about what he did for her, so when my shoulder and neck were hurting I thought I would give it a try. I can only say that the results were nothing short of amazing. From the staff at the front desk to all of the assistants, everyone was polite, friendly, and helpful. They seem to actually care about you and your health and treat you the way you would expect from real professionals. Mike took me through a litany of procedures explaining in great detail the why and the how as he searched for the problem. I have avoided P.T. since I had a terrible experience at a hand therapy group in T.O. many years ago (had to take vicodin to get through the visit). Seeing Angela Rubino gave me more mobility in my neck and I'm able to open my mouth without it cracking all the time. No vicodin necessary! Just going to my pain tolerance. After three physical therapists, four chiropractors, two acupuncturists, and numerous massage therapists, I had pretty much resigned myself to living with back pain. I don't give 5 stars very often, but Mike Burns deserves more than 5 stars! I have been dealing with extreme pain and musculo-skeletal imbalances for about a year now and started seeing him in October of 2011. Although the underlying problem took forever to diagnose, I couldn't have continued to function without his help. To say that he uses unorthodox methods is an understatement, but the relief I got from his treatment has been a life saver (or rather a quality of life saver). I was pretty much in tears when I saw him for the first time, and now I can get through the day without pain medication on most days. I was referred to Dan at Custom Physical Therapy by many coaches and athletes at my gym. If you need help recovering from an injury, you must see Dan. He helped me recover from a stressed bicep tendon. I feel confident that I can go to Dan with any problem regarding my mechanics. He even helped me through a concussion as well as car accidents. Be warned: you will get homework. After having my second rotator cuff surgery, I decided to change a therapist. It was then I discovered a facility Custom Physical Therapy which was close to my home in Canoga Park. Honestly, I didn't have high hope per my past experience with several other PT facilities. I only prayed that I would get a good therapist. After a few sessions, I knew I found the best one, Monica Lesslie, who had training in Ithaca New York. Her soft tissue massage technique was amazing, her hand just gave perfect weight that led to perfect touch. She gave cupping therapy when needed. The exercises she gave were not too hard that gave me incentive to carry on. Whenever I complained ache and pain in other area, she would give me bonus treat. She is very knowledgeable in what she does. Most importantly was that she put her heart and mind in her patients. This review is past due. I am always thankful for knowing her. I have been to Custom Physical Therapy a couple of times over the years for a couple different issues. The first issue I had was when my dentist left bone inside my gums when he removed my wisdom teeth. My jaw was so stiff and I could barely open my mouth much less eat. In my very first visit Mike was able to work on my jaw and it was immediately 80% better and after two visits my jaw no longer had any issues. My second visit was when I was having back pain that came along with my very physical job. I am a bartender and I knew the pain would probably be ongoing if I didn't find a way to treat it. Luckily Dan had a very hands on approach and discussed everything he was doing as he worked on me. He also taught me exercises that would help me strengthen my back and help with the pain. Now I do these exercises at home and very rarely have back pain anymore. He also made me aware of how my posture was when I was pouring drinks hovering over a well everyday. This made me more conscious of the things I was doing that was contributing to my back pain. I would definitely recommend Custom Physical Therapy to anyone in pain. Not only do they help you with your pain but they describe what they are doing and ways you can help your pain at home. The therapy may be pretty good, but they told me that if I paid a certain way with insurance it would only cost X amount so I paid that. Months later I get a cal wanted 2 times what X is. They lied to me and charged me so much more. I will never go here again. Not a very honest place to me. There are so many other good places out there like xcelerate physical therapy where they are very good, nice, and charge you only what they say they are going to. read more

I've been to lots of physical therapists--from San Diego to Ventura--and Custom Physical Therapy is definitely the best. The therapists are completely committed to helping their patients get better and have the exceptional skills to make it happen. They work successfully with everyone from top athletes to stroke victims. This isn't the kind of place where they just send you off with an aide to do exercises, although that will probably be a part of treatment. The therapists spend a lot of time with their patients to figure out what imbalances, restrictions, or structural issues are underlying their problems and then do lots of hands-on work to address those issues. It can be a painful process, but the positive outcomes are well worth it. I've sent lots of people to Custom and everyone raves about the quality of care. I did not have a problem with the therapy treatments but I do have an issue with their financial system. I had dual insurance whom they had a contract with. Primary paid their share. My secondary said that my primary paid more than their contract amount and that they were not responsible to pay and neither was I. CPT would not accept that and are now billing me over $300. I Just read the review from 3/14/2016 and I have to respond. I had been a patient of Custom post surgery on my back and had never experienced anything less than the utmost of professional and caring treatment! The front desk is always ready with a warm and friendly greeting and the staff from my therapist to the amazing aides made me feel like I was the only patient in the office ...As far as the paperwork ..yes that is to be expected in a Therapy Office...and yes as they say "sometimes things happen" beyond our control. I am sure it was just as upsetting to the staff as it was to the patient who did not get seen that day. So I suggest to the folks who wrote that review you better get a thicker skin and go live in a bubble ... read more

Very commercialized physical therapy. I wouldn't recommend as I was put with a PTA almost immediately. Then, every appointment thereafter, the PTA treated me and I didn't see the physical therapist again. The PTA injured my shoulder after pushing me too far and called me a tight ass when I asked what the tempo to the exercise was. read more
