Custom Pools & Remodeling re-plastered our pool and spa and replaced the lighting in both. Everything was great until we discovered a major leak in the spa. We were advised that we should have had a leak detection before the pool was re-plastered. In this case it doesn't appear that the leak was caused by them but I didn't appreciate how they responded to it. Really disappointed, as others have said here we really liked Scott, but will not be using them again. read more

Our almost 4 year old pool had a clog in the pool sweep line. We had 3 different companies come out, from a pool supply company to a plumber. The pool supply company didn't know where to start and said call a plumber. The plumber didn't want to touch it, thinking back probably a wise decision not to use a nasty sewer snake in our clean pool!! Next up a pool maintenance guy, he spent 3 hours and still couldn't clear it. He recommended Custom Pools. They came out a couple of days later. It took them about 3 hours, but they finally got it cleared!!! Our pool sweep is running wild now!! Hopefully we never have another issue, put if we do, we will definitely be calling them!!! read more

Background: The initial pool company (Lewis Pools which is out of business) installed the coping along with the decking at the same time and did not install any slip material between the top of the pool shell prior to the concrete pour. Thus the concrete decking was attached to the pool shell. Upon expansion and contraction of the decking, the pool shell cracked under the tile and 30% of the tile was falling off exposing the cracked concrete and allowing the pool to leak. Custom pools was commissioned via a nice gentleman named Jim to cut the simulated coping away from the pool decking to make them two separate things, and then to replace the tile. This would allow the decking to expand and contract without further cracking of the pool shell. However, the sequence was not performed exactly as requested. They started separating the coping from the decking, but did not go deep enough, and then they replaced the tile. I went home to inspect the work and discovered the cut was only about 2.5 inches and needed to be more like 4 inches. They came back the next day with a better saw and cut the decking through as far as I can tell, and then put in the tile grout. 5 days later the grout started cracking and falling out. To their credit, after many phone calls, they came back and fixed the grout and cut the decking between the top of the tile about 2.5 inches and put in some gray silicone. This should also help further cracking. It's not the same as performing the sequence of events as specified, but better than the experience that other folks appear to have dealt with. Time will tell if this patch does the trick. it appears that when serious and difficult issues with construction are encountered, and specific events in certain sequences need to be performed, those instructions are not easily transferred from sales person to the person doing the work. It almost becomes mandatory for the homeowner to be in attendance during the process. But the issue is, who can take off work and suffer the loss of pay and at the same time be shelling out tons of cash for these expensive projects. It's a dilemma that we seem to face without solution. The situation I (and other homeowners) face seems to be widespread and not just a symptom of Custom Pools. I certainly think the workers were trying hard to do a good job, I just don't think that is was explained well enough to them why they were doing it and why the sequence mattered. Wishing all of us better experiences in the future. For fun, let's estimate the expansion that the decking is doing during the course of the year: concrete expansion coefficient is 8 X10-6 in/(in R))=alpha tR = tF + 459.67 Temperature change from winter to summer is 32F to 105F (estimate it's probably higher). The foundation to the pool is about 12 feet, or 144 inches=D Delta T is (105-32) +459=532 change in concrete length from pool to house is (delta T)x (D) x alpha=.612 inches. This .612 inch difference comes at an extreme force. read more

We were happy with the way our pool remodel stayed until we discovered that the pool light no longer works after they reinstalled it. After a week or so, the light fixture actually filled with water. They refused to come out and make the repair blaming it on the age of our pool light. If you use this company, be sure everything is working before you release final payment. read more

I was referred to Custom Pools for a remodel. Needed to raise the elevation to add a row of tile, reoair equipment and I wanted more concrete work. Stefan was great to work with, very patient with my changing ideas and very knowledgable when I was unsure of things. They are very detailed in their work, and although most of my oversight was done by phone and text...lots of pictures...I got EXACTLY what I wanted. Totally magazine worthy! Had my old worn out pool refurbished by these guys. I was impressed from start to finish! Stefan provided perfect customer service throughout the entire process. They showed up when they said they would & they did a great Job. I even had them build a waterfall for me. Each time they came & left my yard spotless, as if they were never there. I called 3 companies to get a quote on replastering my pool. Only 2 called me back, and only Chris from Custom Pools actually showed up at the scheduled time to give me a quote. He was super friendly and very quick, I also couldn't believe how great the price was. I signed the contract the next day and a few days later they were at my place draining my pool. I stuck with just the white finish, no paint or color, nothing fancy. They cleaned my old nasty tiles too and made them look great. It's only been a week since they completed the work, but so far I couldn't be happier! read more

I hired Custom Pools & Remodeling (CP&R) to resurface my 20,000 gal white plaster pool after calling many other companys only to find out they were booked up for several weeks past my deadline for a family reunion / birthday pool party. Scott sold me on their work after he spoke with the company owner for an approval of my timeline, excluding the lighting since the fiber optic lamps were no longer available. This was the last week of May 2016, and the party Is scheduled for the 18th of June 2016. I needed a week or two after the plaster to balance the water chemistry, and clear up the plaster dust in the water. Since the water quality was so bad being 13 years old, I had drained the pool myself a week earlier, and was just going to refill if I could not find a company that would commit to my timeline. Jeremy the job foreman, and I worked to secure the repalcement lamps, which ended up to be LED's from SR Smith via Amazon. The lights order was placed on the Friday before Memorial day weekend, so the shipment wasn't giong to be placed until the following Tuesday, and Amazon said it would take 7 days for shipping! That put the job on hold for another week. I received the lights on the wednesday after Memorial day due to some pleading with Amazon, and SR Smith via phone. The Plaster crew arrived just three days later June 4th for the chipout, sandblast and bond coating on a Saturday of the Memorial day weekend no less! Junior the lead of that crew was a calm in the storm so to speak. He put us at ease, answered all our questions which were many, and got right to work with his crew, who were all down to business, and very thorough. The pool looks and feels great to the touch. Like a baby's bottom. I had my doubts as to the negative reports found here on Yelp, but I found that having CP&R do my pool was a great experiance. The Foreman Jeremy, and Scott the salesman always answered my calls, or called me back when they were in range. They were even apologetic for not returning my call, even when I only had to wait an hour or so to get one? There was not any issue that was not handled in the most professional manner. read more

Had pool, patio and waterfall completely redone - the pool plaster, lights swap out to LEDs , patio replace and the waterfall redone. We had several bids from pool companies in our town. Went with Custom Pools because they seem to understand what we were trying to accomplish. They gave us a quote that had to be adjusted after starting the project because of a error measuring for the new concrete patio. We are pleased with the work that was done on the pool and patio. The only issue came with the waterfall took several trips to work out the issue with the way the water was flowing. The issues were corrected but the waterfall design fell short of what we discussed at the time we received the quote. Overall very satisfied with Custom Pools with the work on the pool and the patio they were on Schedule and did high quality work. read more

We saved for a long time to be able to renovate our backyard and we hired Row to re-plaster our pool, have our concrete removed, re-poured, stained and stamped which makes our experience with Row so upsetting for our family. Not only was our project abandoned, our property is damaged to such a degree we have to hire other contractors to hopefully "fix" the leaks, broken pipes and have to have our concrete removed and re-poured again. We tried time and time again to work with them and when they did actually show up (about 20% of the time), we encountered even more property destruction in their efforts to "fix" their own mistakes which essentially translated into "hiding" their mistakes instead of making the necessary repairs. We are left with a colossal mess and we really wish we had gone with another company. I hope in reading this review others will make a better choice. read more

I am so happy with the new plaster in my pool. It is beautiful!! Scott was fabulous. I learned so much about plaster in one phone call. I was doing pretty much everything wrong for the last 14 years. He answered or returned all my calls, answered my multitude of questions, reassured me that I'd be happy with the end results! I really depended on him through this remodel. Besides, he is a real character and funny! I enjoyed working with him.The work crews were great, worked hard, answered questions, and really were a fun bunch of guys. No. NO NO NO NO NO. Do not use this company, whichever name is tries to go by - replastering, remodeling, etc. They are snakes. After leaving out pool remodeling project (which dragged on for months) and our pool with not one but two leaks in the pool, we eventually ended up in small claims court! And WE WON against them. They appealed - they lost, again. And they were told to pay us even more money after the appeal. There are no further appeals/stall tactics for them to use, so they have been refusing to pay the court ordered amount. They go to great lengths to avoid the process servers, including lying and hiding from them. Pay attention to this yelp review! How they have a BBB rating of A+ is beyond ridiculous. And they have a way of making negative reviews such as this one disappear from yelp. Please don't go through what we have gone through - just avoid this company! read more

I Baught my house a year and half ago and have custom pool install new plaster and equipment. Everything looks great until now the pool start becoming cloudy and there's white powdery stuff coming out of the pipes to the pool. I pay pool guy to always mantain my pool. I called Stepan and have them come out to check it out. They said everything is fine just run filter and brush it and back wash it everyday. Called them 3 days later to have them check it again because it hasn't change. I talk to Armando the guy that did all the work he said that stephan said there is nothing they can do. I ask stephan why and he said it's not covered under warranty. They did the job for remax and since remax sold the property to me is no longer covered. I told them it was me that wanted the pool fix before purchasing it but I guess there's nothing they can do. I'm pissed and my pool guy said they new about it something wrong that they did but don't want to take care of it. I have a new pool practically but now it's looks like crap. 16k down the drainned. I will never do business with them again and hope you guys don't fall for it aswell. Poor customer service. By the way stephan will never return your call. Now I gotta find a reliable pool company to fix what they call mikey mouse job they did. read more

Poor Customer Service and poor treatment of their customers after the job has completed. The owner Roger is a Real Piece of Work! Make sure you check your contract specifically to "Check Cracking" and have them explain upfront on what is "not their responsibility". They resurfaced our pool and it looks great but our attached hot tub looks horrible and has a crackle look which is " not their responsibility". Roger is rude and obnoxious. Don't trust him and be sure to write everything down. Including all of their work and pool filling processes to make sure it is done right. read more

Truly a horrible company, from the concrete decking that cracked in half (instead of making the grade to the center drains they had the grade so water ran off the edge, exposed aggregate coming off), installed jandy pump to replace pentair ( not compatible with existing compool controls) blew out the motherboard, pebble tec about 4-5" thick on floor of pool, glass tile falling off. Company finally sent someone to take pictures of concrete and repair tile( which they used a different color grout) now more tile is falling off. Company promising returns calls but I only received a letter from president stating crack in concrete is industry standard, ignoring all other issues, but encouraged me to call if I have questions, which I did. Have yet to get return call, filed complaint with BBB. It's been over a week and haven't heard anything, but I see BBB states on website company is under review. AVOID this company!! Edit Remove 1 Previous Review: Hide " 1.0 star rating 9/4/2014 This company is the WORST!! Concrete was originally incorrectly poured to drain off edge instead of into the center drain system, huge crack, exposed aggregate coming off, they used the old fence as one edge so its not even a straight line. We had to build new fence over 5" into my neighbors. Installed equipment that was not compatible with our compool controls and blew the motherboard, Eight months later tile is all coming off. They did come out and repair some tile and used a different color grout, more tile is coming off, and determined the crack in concrete was normal but didn't address other issues. I've called thirteen times full of promises of a return call. What I received was a letter from the president saying the crack was industry standard but again failed to address other issues. BBB absolutely should not give an A+ rating to a company that has had eleven complaints!! read more

Spoke with Jeremy very understanding i will update review if things change . This is the worst company to hire, from not knowing how to bid a job to non standard work. They cover it all, then they won't call you back and claim they are already losing money on this job. Again they don't know how to bid a job. After repeated calls, the owner Roger said they would look at it but they have new stores and don't have time for me for 2 weeks, Never showed up. Apparently not being truthful is the type of man he is. Looks like he prefers to handle this in court.They also sent two guys to do the prep for the deck, Very shady, both said the had been to prison. :( Not people you want unsupervised at your home). My pool Has cracked decking after only 6 months, This due to apparently due to thin concrete. Jeremy arrived as promised. He approved work and since being corrected looks better. Wow, just read some of the other reviews, some raved about Custom Pools and others hated them. Anyway, Having a pool replastered was a big decision for us. Our neighbors on both sides had their pools done but had some cracking in the tiles that were put in. On our pool we left the old tiles on since they looked fine and had no cracks. Jeremy was the supervisor and he stayed in touch and was available when I had questions. Daniel (who apparently is not there anymore) also would drive up from Ceres to the Bay Area. Having never had a replaster Daniel was pretty good about saying, "Don't worry about it, we'll take care of it". They came by with the draining equipment, the pool was drained, then two guys came by and chipped our the cracks, chipped around the pool ladder, chipped out weak areas on the pool floor. Then another fellow came by and replaced the pool skiimmer which he said was cracked. He cut out the old concrete out, replaced the skimmer, put new concrete in, and that was his part. Then the coping guy came out, he was really a good guy. He said that most of the coping needed to be resealed. I called Jeremy and he said that could be done. The coping guy showed up again and reset a bunch of coping blocks and did a fine job. Then the replaster crew came out and, wow, did they work hard and fast. What a team they made. I took lots of video and photos and they were laughing and joking around for the camera. The foreman of the crew was pleasant and real patient with me. They finished up and set the hose in to fill the pool. All seemed to go well. I was told to brush the sides and bottom of the pool (a job I can't stand) a couple of times a day for a week or so. This would help the plaster color come up and get rid of the rough areas. SORRY, this is longer than I thought it would be. We filled the pool and had a pool service come in to set up the right chemical balance. We had a great 4th of July party and the pool looked good. A few months later, maybe longer, I was trying to get in touch with Daniel, no response to emails. Finally Jennifer emailed me and I talked with her. She was great and said that Daniel wasn't with the company anymore. What I wanted to find out was if they pressure tested the bottom drain and skimmer to pool filter line. Jennifer said that she didn't see any indication of this in Daniel's reports. I told Jennifer I was concerned because I seemed to be losing water in the pool a little too fast. She got right back to me and said that Stefan would handle this. It seems, if I recall, that Jennifer phoned and said there would be two guys coming out to do the pressure test. Sure enough they came out, one guy got into scuba equipment and dove down to the drain, plugged it and the other guy check the pressure at the skimmer. Then they checked the pressure from the skimmer to the pump. Their assessment was that the pressure held and there was no leak. To test the three lines coming into the pool would be $350 but for what they did Jennifer said there would not be a charge since it should have been done when the replaster process was taking place. So... At this point, I'm pleased with the work Custom Pools did. I'm happy that Jennifer jumped in to help us out. I would and have recommended Custom Pools to several other people. I'm still hopeful that I won't see any cracking BUT as of today I could almost give five stars but there were some things, at this point, minor that could have been done. I believe their warranty is pretty good so that is nice and from the customer service I received from Jennifer, I would be optimistic if I did have a pool problem in the future. Keeping my fingers crossed that the pool replaster will last years and years. read more

Custom Pools did a really nice job remodeling our 30 year old pool. Our remodel job wasn't a standard re-plaster either. Our remodel included cutting the bond beam and adding a beach entry with rock bubbler, adding a four ton water feature, swim jets, rounding pool corners, adding moss rock to the bond beam, all new plumbing, equipment and a combination of Stonescapes and Jewelscapes all glass beads for the surface. We are very happy with the beauty of the pool. The entire crew was pleasant to work with including Stefan, Neil, Roger, James, Armando and all the workers. The workers were some of the hardest working people I've met, especially in the heat. Ramon did a beautiful job on all the stone work, especially our waterfall. read more

We recently had our old, jacked up pool remodeled by Custom Pools and now we have what looks like a brand new pool! Scott was amazing in helping us decide what to do with it and he was so knowledgeable about the process. I knew from the moment that he came over that we would use his company. I personally want to write a review and thank Custom Pools for doing such a great job. They really worked with me from start to finish. I had a deadline for a party and didn't give them much notice. They were able to order the supplies that were not in stock and the materials did not take but maybe 2 days. At first I was a little hesitant from reading the reviews before hand, but I decided to go with them because they were all so nice a forth coming about prices and time frame. I had different options to choose and never did I feel pressure. I'm glad I did choose them because the work that was performed was an outstanding. They put a lot of hard work into making my 30 year old pool look new again. From Scott, the salesman that first came out to the supervisors, Stef and Jeromy, and their employees, they were all so kind and knowledgeable during the process. I even meet the owner Roger when he came out to make sure everything was up to par. Very nice people all the way through. I will update with the pictures as soon as I get a chance.
