Custom shoe repair has been around forever. He's the last of a dying breed. I went in the other day because I needed to achieve a better fit at the heel of my new loafers. I'm not technically qualified to review this place since I didn't actually have them repair any of my shoes, but that's just it: I brought my shoes in, and Angelo there recommended AGAINST me having them repaired, as doing so would have cost almost as much as buying a new pair. This is the only shoe repair place in town, so I'm glad that so far, I've had a good experience with them. My Birkenstock sandals were in dire need of a new sole, so I took them in. The man who runs this place says that they are replaceable - but will cost $40. I thought that this was a pretty steep, but I didn't want to spend another $100+ getting another Birkenstock pair, and have to wear the leather in, so I agreed and left the shoes with him. He said that they would be done in a few days, by Friday (took them in Tuesday). I went to pick up the sandals, and he repaired them well. He used official Birkenstock soles, and also fixed up the dry and cracking cork by adding wax to them. They looked good as new! $40 was still steep but I'm happy with the work he did on the sandals. I would try him out again if any other shoes go bust. read more

I brought these boots in 3 weeks ago and I asked for them to stitch an area, and every week I would check if they were finished and every time I went, the man said they were ordering the needles, they were ordering nylon, blah blah, there was just an excuse every time. I just thought, oh wow they are putting in so much effort to fix my boots. WRONG. I came in on the third week hoping they will look brand spanking new and boy was I wrong. They didn't stich anything and instead, glued this one area together..... It was a horrible glue job too.. How can you give this back to a customer.... waste of my time. read more

Amazing Place. Reasonable and fast. Fixed my boots while I waited. This will be my shoe supply and repair stop from now on.

Took 2 pairs of dress shoes to get shined. One had the glue coming apart, so it needed a little more work. Custom Shoe Repair is an old school looking cobbler. You walk in the rickety door, and it's like your transformed back 20 years in the past. The prices are a little high in comparison to cobblers in actual towns ($8 per shoe to shine), but seeing that there are basically no other places in town that will do the same, it's all a matter of supply and demand. The guy that runs the place is pretty nice. Soft spoken, but he'll get the job done. I dropped off my shoes on a Saturday and picked them up on Wednesday. Decent time frame, and when I came to pick them up, they looked just like new. Great service, very convenient location. Just wished the price was just a buck or two cheaper. read more

I have dropped two pairs of shoes here for repair. My shoes are always nicely repaired. However, it is VERY frustrating that the each time the shoes have not been completed when promised. In one instance, after stopping in three times for the shoes, I was told I'd receive a phone call when they were completed. I never received a phone call. I stopped by on a Monday to pick up shoes that were promised for the prior Saturday. Of course, they're not done. They do good work, but be prepared for a wait. read more

Brought in a pair of leather soled dress shoes after hours. The owner took them regardless and charged me the normal rate for the normal week's wait: $34. I came in a few days later with a late breaking emergency and he rushed them a day earlier at no charge. The shoes look great and feel great too. I had the same experience as Teresa below. I kept coming back to check on the status of my shoes for 4 months. He was saying that the material is not there yet, or that it takes long to do the patching etc. Finally he gave back the shoes saying that something called the shoe box is broken so this was never possible to fix. On another pair of shoes he put a non-slid grip patch and charged me for more than $30. read more

After my favorite (pricey) black boots broke a heel, I was worried that I'd have to get rid of them since the soles appeared to be made of plastic. I took them to Custom Shoe Repair, and he resoled them for a reasonable $15. The visit was very quick and easy; I was in the shop for less than 5 minutes. (FYI: you pay at drop-off.) I had my boots back two days later, and he had not only fixed them, but shined them beautifully--they look better than they have in a really long time! Highly recommended. read more

Same experience as many others: months and months go by. There is always an excuse. His work piles up but doesn't get done. Sometimes the eventual answer is "no, can't fix it." The art of shoe repair is a dying concept...few and far between.....I buy quality shoes and wear them hard---I need a quality shoe repair. The show repair in Altoona is going out of business so this business I will use more often. I patronized Custom Shoe Repair in the 80's when the grandfather owned it,...now the grandson is in charge. I brought a purse of mine for repair and left beyond happy! The stitches that held my straps on came loose and I was afraid a simple restitch wouldn't suffice for future wear-and-tear. The very nice gentleman suggested putting metal rivets to secure the straps for good. I brought it in at the end of day on Thursday and picked it up first thing Monday morning, all for $20. I have gone to this shoe repair business for many years; it is always reliable and dependable.

Took a pair of boots to be repaired. Quoted me a price of $35 (paid in advance) and said that they would be done in a week. Came back 2 weeks later and they weren't done (had to order the material). Told me that they would be done in a week. Came back a week later, still not done, said that the material was back ordered and that they would be done in another week. Came back in about 8 days and was told that the material had gone up in price and that he would not fix them because there was no money in it for him (he did promptly return my money). Long story short, quoted a price and a timeline and failed to stand by either. Very polite but wasted my time and failed to hold up his end of the bargain. read more

I got my dress shoes polished multiple time while I was in school. There was a very fast turn around. I also had more holes added to my belt, which was done in the store and the owner did it complementary with my shoe polish. I also brought a pair of shoes that the heel started coming apart on, the shop owner told me it would not be worth repairing the heel on and that I should just replace the shoe. read more

As previous posters have said, the repair job and friendly attention to customers are great but the service is very slow. I have yet to have a pair of shoes completed in the time frame estimated. If you need your shoes by a certain date, get them repaired way in advance because it will take a while. Also, call ahead to check on the status-it will usually save you a trip! read more

It's true - the place is good, just be prepared to wait a few weeks for a repair. That's fine though. I was happy with the final results (repaired the heel on a pair of flats). The wait is more of an issue in that they keep saying 'next Monday' rather than just come out and say it'll be 3-4 weeks. read more

I've tried three times to get shoes fixed here, but they never got around to the job and, each time, after waiting a month, I just asked for my shoes back. The guy keeps saying "next week", but next week he always has some excuse why he couldn't get to my shoes.
