When I moved from New York to LA six years ago, I was looking for a salon that looked young, hip, and cool. I didn't want a place that learned their skills 40 years ago and never updated them. I wanted a place that is committed to constantly improving themselves and staying abreast of new hair trends and technology. Why? Because I'm bleaching the hell out of my hair and I want it to look as soft and natural as if it's naturally growing out of my head. This is Kim. She is an expert at color. She is an expert at cutting curly hair into a shape that gives it life. I have NEVER worn my naturally curly hair out with people until she started cutting it. I thought I was just horrible at styling it, but it turns out I was just afraid of layers. Now I have a style that I can wear both curly and blown out and it lasts for months. She's also great at troubleshooting and unpacking what it is you actually want. I've been getting baby highlights for a more natural blond look for the past two years and offhandedly mentioned during the appointment that I missed my hair being all over platinum even though the grow out looked severe. Instead of letting my comment go, she took the time to unpack why I liked it better (because it was lighter around my face) and adjusted the highlights so I could look lighter but also not have the severe grow out. I woke up this morning still marveling at my hair. It's so exactly what I wanted and even though I didn't know how to ask for it, she figured it out. By the way, her pricing is super reasonable and competitive with what's out there. I always ask upfront before I go if I am making a change from my normal style so I know what to expect for cost. One new thing I'm excited by at this salon: She has two new employees! So even more availability. It's an incredible thing to hear her talk about their skill and how they empower each other to cultivate the health and happiness of their workplace together AND hold each other accountable. I first set up an appointment with Kimberly back in February and have been going to her non stop since then because she consistently does a great job, has a nice location where I'm always the only person in there while getting a cut (love that) and she's also nice and easy to talk to. Since the beginning of the year I am in South Park often so I was very lucky to find Kimberly close by. Parking is very easy as frequently there is street parking (depending on the time obviously) but there's also a giant pay lot across the street. I would definitely recommend her for any male or female cut or color although I have not had my hair colored since I was very young but her cuts I can say from experience are great. She also has great products and is fair with pricing so it's an all around win. read more

Been getting my hair cut here for the past two years. After growing my hair out during the pandemic, Kim helped me get it shaped, styled, and helped teach me how to properly care for my longer hair. Kim is a really nice, chill person who is easy to chat with! As I mentioned, she's also great with explaining/teaching things about hair care without pushing a bunch of products, which is so refreshing! KIMBERLY IS AMAZING AT HER JOB AND A DARLING. I researched everywhere to get my curly hair cut in LA, and most places had very mixed reviews and insanely high prices. I was nervous to get my hair cut because I have only ever cut it myself or had my sisters do it. Kim is skilled of course, but she went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. She answered every question I had, recommended products, and assessed where/why my hair was damaged in certain areas! She asked about my particular hair goals (maximum growth, no split ends) and gave me lots of good advice for what to do/avoid. She is super sweet and funny too! And it still looks great, and even better/ natural as my hair grows. I trust her with my curly hair, and the integrity of my curls didn't even budge. I've had the same hair stylist for almost 5 years and rarely do I stray even when traveling. However, I stopped by Kim's cute little shop while staying in DTLA on vacation and she did wonders on my hair and my friend's hair! I was going from black/brown processed hair and wanted to go rich purple. The whole thing was almost 9 hours long but Kim was able to lift my color in one go (as opposed to 2-3 times) as my hair is difficult to bleach and will often turn really orange! She used a new bonding agent on my hair so even after 3 hours of bleaching my hair was glossy and soft. Not as dry and brittle as I've seen it in my previous bleaching adventures! I had to go back to the salon twice as the color washed out of my hair. Not the salons fault or the color product! It's mainly my hair is very porous and doesn't take to colors well and I told Kim that when we started. First we went with a light lavender color, but after a few days most of the color had washed out because my hair doesn't hold pastels well. I came back to the salon and she did a complimentary re-do on color, changing it to a deeper purple so it would fade more gradually. It was another hour long process (4ish days later) so I am so grateful that she was able to do my hair again to make sure it was satisfactory! She really listens to every detail and is really nice and personable. She just moved into her space and currently only works there half the week and books up really fast so make sure to try to schedule in advance. read more
