THANK YOU ARLENE!!! My first time at this salon, I had to schedule an appointment somewhere fast because I tried cutting my own hair.... it looked awful (Psa don't cut your own curtain bangs!). I ended up booking for Wednesday afternoon, parked nearby the coffee shop. Wasn't a busy day. Arlene is such a hair expert! I told her I prefer short hair for the volume and she showed me some ideas. We decided that a short bob would be best to fix my mess! She did a fantastic job fixing up the uneven pieces, making sure to fix the bangs so it would grow out nicely. She also showed me how to style it at home, since short hair is high maintenance. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and I'll definitely be back when it's time to trim. I loved how it went for the first time when I got a hair cut and highlights .My hair looked gorgeous so after almost a year I went back to get the same experience I got the first time and but he completely destroyed my hair. He seem too busy on this phone and he also double booked my appointment so he was also helping someone else too . It was a touch up and I thought since I am playing 400 dollars for a professional hair cut and touch up nothing could go wrong But it did he added lighter and told me to set in the sun my after a while I felt like boiling water in my scalp I told him it's getting really hot so I moved to shaded. He didn't bother to check because he was too busy being in his phone and waiting for the next appointment to come after that . That's when I knew he messed up because he kept replying bleach in my to make lighter because of that made my hair Fragile and FRIZZY it's SO FRUSTRATING to maintain from the time I got out of his salon stayed wearing beanies and hats I was too embarrassed of my hair I kept this good review for too long I had to dye my hair orange because the blonde was just too ugly and it looked too burned And today in a different solan I'm going to completely chop it off it's too damaged and uneven he gave one side of my face with bangs and the other long just changing the two star to one after years I'm still mad that I wasted $400 just for them to destroy my hair no refund no remorse. This is the worst place to go. Whoever comes here comes here just to get the heart destroyed after many reviews of them destroying hair and burning scalp. I'm surprised they're still up. read more

I came in knowing I wanted soft wispy bangs and a vague idea of how to fix the at home haircut I'd given myself and he went right to work trying to figure out what I wanted and what needed to be done. I have more thick, coarse, curly hair (not that one can tell from the pics) so bangs and shorter length hair has always been a struggle. I had such an amazing experience with Pablo both times around. First, I went to him for a Hime haircut and I loved that he gave me a result that looked amazing both straightened and left curly! For those with curly hair we know this doesn't always translate so when I saw my hair look just as good with curls, I was over the moon! As someone who steered my mom to the wrong stylist, I had been at a loss of where to find the right one, that wasn't absurdly expensive and still could do a nice cut. There's only so many chances you get once you cut your hair, so after looking on Yelp, I had a good feeling about this salon, and was able to make a same day appointment with Pablo. Not only was he so accommodating on sort notice, he's a really down to earth guy who's also a fantastic hair stylist! We got really lucky to find him and his salon, my mom's haircut hasn't looked this good in years. Pablo takes the time to discuss ideas and finds what style would work best and he did just that. Update: Going on 12 weeks later, this is hands-down still my Worst. Haircut. Ever. Somehow even worse as it grows out -- and I mean straight out. Still don't have my curls back. Still thin, choppy and frizzy. Still too short to put in my go-to pineapple. Still hearing "What happened to your hair?" every time I run into friends. Still in tears. I am giving a somewhat misleading 4 stars because Pablo the salon owner deserves 10 stars for contacting me after my original (since removed) 1-star review, expressing genuine concern over my "haircut" vs. the attention-getting curls I walked in with, offering a full refund that I didn't request, and providing the names of stylists who might do right by me. The haircut itself deserves 0 stars. I told the stylist who rents a chair there part time that I wanted shoulder length, no additional layers, light bangs. Instead I got just below my chin, short layers that stick straight out, seriously heavy bangs -- as well as total disruption of my curl pattern. Six weeks later, my hair remains a fluffy, unflattering and aging mess. She somehow made my thick locks look thin. Can't put it up, can't let it air dry as usual. The best anyone has been able to manage is: It's not THAT bad. The stylist assured me she is a curl pro (a wavy acquaintance recommended) but I worried from the first over-snip to the blow dry without any of the products real pros typically use. My fault for trying to save a few bucks but...so damn sad (see my profile pic and imagine the antithesis of that hair). read more

At first I was apprehensive after my interaction with the salon the salon thru Yelp; I'm one of those who can't easily trust salons with my hair.. and after contacting the salon and getting a blasé response about going to the website to make an appointment as a catch all response, I still stuck through cause it's only 5 mins on foot by my place and went ahead with the registration (and 48 hr charge cancellation), I looked forward to my cut. And Fae was spectacular - she knew exactly what I was hoping for. As for the service, between the shampoo and the cut, loved the TLC on my hair that I was really spoiled with by my previous hair shaman. Got compliments from friends right away. I got something completely different than what I asked for - full platinum highlights - when I asked for a mixture of warm and cool tones, natural looking. My whole head is white blonde and people are shocked when they see me. I paid $450 and the company refuses to refund but offers to tone it down with toner. Other stylists have told me that is a cheap fix and won't work as it will dilute any color variation I have (although I have almost none) and won't grow out well. I'm astonished they won't refund the cost. What's even more frustrating is that they asked for a picture beforehand....and it's clearly evident that I didn't get what I asked for, at all. The owner Pablo called me - to get more information and I hoped to refund - and was extremely condescending. When I explained that I didn't think toner alone would solve the problem he asked, "Are you a professional?" At which point I hung up. read more

This place is not consistent, and not great. Very overhyped. I had used this salon for a long time. The first couple of appointments the hair dresser did a good job. After that, my hair would be fried and singed off every other time or so. The hairdresser who would do my hair would not listen to the techniques I wanted and often times GASLIGHT me and made me feel crazy (for example, I'd ask for a simple root smudge (after she had done it for me in the last apptmnt) and she would look at me like I was crazy and tell me that doesn't exist and just not do it in the end). Just really bad energy, poor/rude entitled customer service and mediocre work. My 2nd to last time appt there, I was able to get snag last minute appointment and they charged me a lot more than normal for a full highlight..."fine" I thought, "they're accommodating me and I guess that's faeir". The next time I only got a partial highlight and they charged me evennnn more than the last time (when I got a full last minute highlight) with no notice or consent or anything. They were trying to charge me more for less. I could even see the guilt on her face as she watched to see if I would say anything as she ran my card. Unfortunately being sensible and hating conflict, I said nothing and said I'm never going to the salon ever again. Since, I have tried out 3 diffrent salons, one in downey, one in Beverly hills and another in the valley, and each experience has validated how objectively horrible this salon experience. New salon location. I have very thick Polynesian hair. Super nice stylist but sadly not a great or confident cutter. I asked for a straight cut and she literally cut a straight line in the back, blow dried my hair with a brush, removed the cape and ready to charge me $100 + tip. My hair was frizzy and bottom was dense. I had to ask her if she could texturize the bottom so it wasn't so dense and use the flat iron so it wasn't left frizzy. She texturized from the back but didn't also cut from the front like most stylists do. She brought my hair to the front but didn't straighten the cut or even the line out etc - didn't have time to cut anymore (1.5hrs) so decided to call it a day. 4/11 Update - Pablo invited me back to the salon. I see why he is the owner. Very professional and I had such a different experience this time. Pablo is an excellent cutter, very thorough, knowledgeable with my hair texture and I felt very confident after our initial conversation that I was in great hands. I love my new cut and just enjoyed the whole experience, conversation and definitely the results. THANK YOU! read more

Danny the receptionist (hopefully not owner because that would be the worst look) has 0 customer service skills. Marissa the stylist it's was suppose to let me in after I checked in WHEN I ARRIVED to my appointment by sending a message; and she never did. Instead I get a call from Danny who kept asking where I was, and I kept having to repeat "I'm in front of the salon, waiting to be let in". She puts me on hold, then tells me I have to reschedule because it's 15 minutes past my appointment time..... I WAS 10 MINUTES EARLY AND WAS PRESENT AT MY START TIME WAITING FOR THE MESSAGE, LIKE THE SYSTEM PROMPTED ME TO. Obviously I'm unhappy, and instead of offering any help to me, Danny almost hangs up on me and says "she doesn't want to be spoken to that way" because I I kept clarifying "I was present and I followed your prompt". Then she has the nerve to tell me it's possible that I'd be charge for the appointment! She had to call the stylist to confirm I would not be charged. WHAT? I first came to Rock Paper Salon in early 2021 for a touch up on my bleached blonde hair and since then have had one more touch up until I transitioned back to brunette. Let me tell you, Pablo is SKILLED. He gave me the most perfect transition balayage and my hair has never felt or looked better. Let's just just say that the balayage was so good, I've only come back for a haircut (with Pablo obviously) and it still looks amazing. The stylist didn't go by the numerous photos I provided and not only damaged my ends but gave me rooty highlights. Also the ends are the only thing highlighted in some areas and the rest of the hair is dark. Opposite of what I asked for. When I went in for a fix she made it look worse and took out the baby lights. I will have to go to someone else to have this fixed. Warmth on top and the highlights are not taken to the top and not the baby light look I asked for. Neighborhood was sketchy and I didn't feel comfortable leaving my new car parked there not that I found parking by their salon. Charging that type of money My expectation was that the stylist could do the work. I had written a review previously on Yelp. Pablo the owner reached out to me on the pretense of making things right. He then pulled a bait and switch and said he would only give a refund if I removed my original review. After more back and forth he became extremely rude and unprofessional. This is unacceptable considering how much of my time and money was wasted. He then tried to leave a note on my page calling me an old nag! Lol! Atrocious customer service on every level. I would not recommend this place to anyone based on my experience with them. Low bar service and playing the blame game is not okay.
