Layered cut with bangs and face framing.
    Samantha B.

This is the best haircut I've had since I moved to LA. I've even been to private salons but this was a phenomenal experience. Rachel took so much good care of my hair and really listened to what I wanted to see in the end result. It felt like she really cared for my opinion rather than me just sitting in silence the whole time. It was so clean and stunning inside too!

When I was on the lighter side. Color: Kelly ; Cut : Amanda

I've been going to Nova for about 2 years now, idk maybe even more. My appointments have always been with Kelly and Amanda. Kelly does my coloring and she just gets it every time. She moves quick but still takes the time to have conversations and catch up with you. I love how I can just show her a picture and she already knows what to do and brings your vision to life. Now, Amanda is the one who cuts my hair. She does a great job on cutting and keeping the length of my hair when I want to keep it long. An FYI this salon has Specialists, that's why I am mentioning 2 women. Overall, I am happy I can say I enjoy my days at the salon. The vibe is there, I feel good after my app. , if I get hungry there are some good food and coffee options within walking distance.

Look no further!!! I always leave feeling on top of the world, between the service and professionalism there's no better place to get your hair done. Anya has been cutting my hair for a few years now (crazy how time flies) and she does a spectacular job - I always get a million compliments after seeing her and she's incredible at making your vision come to life. I also recently got my hair dyed for the first time in a long time and Vihan did such a great job at nailing the specific color and my hair is glowing. Truly a magical experience!!!

Fantastic curly cut from Veronica! She does a great job working with natural texture and is lovely to speak to. The salon staff were also very accommodating with my kid, who had a bit of a meltdown when we arrived. (He really hates haircuts. I had to reassure him that he was NOT the one getting a trim!) They also offer validation for parking, which is really nice. So impressed!

    IMPORTANT:
 Dog in Booties on Premises

I always go for a bob, but for some reason my neck grew out longer than the rest of my hair so I ended up with a weird mullet-y growth back there. If that's what you're into, that's cool but I'm not cool enough to pull that off. In the end, Katherine tamed the chaos and I left with my clean bob I requested, with my hair trimmed back even more in the back to ensure it doesn't grow back wonky and embarrassing. It's a month post-haircut and everything still looks clean. Bonus points for having an adorable dog on site and also being opened on Sunday during Smorgasburg to allow my partner to eat BBQ to his hearts content unsupervised while I get my haircut.

The cry in the car after I left.

I was open to a creative cut, and after seeing Sal's work on Instagram, I told him I trusted his work. As an artist, I didn't want to over-direct. He said he had something in mind and was excited but couldn't find a good example because it would be new. I agreed. After the cut, Sal turned to his next customer, and the assistant just handed me the mirror to show me the back. It looked awful from the side and not flattering to me at all. Ten inches gone. No one asked if I was happy with it; the assistant just asked for my robe (as in "we're done"). I felt very dismissed and taken by surprise. I don't feel comfortable going to this salon anymore. I'd gone there a handful of times but never had this kind of dismissal. The manager Weston called me to offer for me to come back and talk about it, but I can't even bring myself to do that.

How cute! They have actual towels rather than paper towels!!

Through the non-profit "Children with Hair Loss" Du Japon Hair Club was vetted for donations and is the only approved salon in the Los Angeles area. I met Yuki, who owns and operates this salon and also one of the best stylists I've had in my years of barbers. She is so nice and explained the process of the donation and also provided guidance on selecting the best hair cut for me. After looking at a few photos, I decided to go with a moderate cut to ease back into the general population. I was so happy with the results and would recommend Yuki to any of my friends. She will only take appointments and is the busiest during the weekend. Yuki should have warned me that my hair was too fine for this process instead of taking my money to ruin my hair. This is my warning to others that are going here to have straightening done. Don't rely on her to tell you it's not right for your hair. To top it off when I called to tell her she did not apologize, she did not act as though she felt bad her response was not caring at all. Not to mention she didn't offer any advice or a refund. Now it will take me years to get my hair healthy and I'm so upset.

My appt she got me back to my blonde I've been missing. I was in hawaii for some time and my hair was grown out from moving and just didn't find the right stylist. She brought me BACK. To a beautiful, very bright/light blonde! And my hair feels very healthy as well! She was so attentive, meticulous and so fun too talk with as well. I didn't realize or forgot they have parking in front and they will even run out to pay your meter for you if needed. I just parked in the neighborhood nearby. Salon vibes are so chill and inviting. Coffee and water provided too. A no pressure vibe which I loved. No product pushing, no pressure whatsoever when describing what you are trying to get. Sometimes I'm anxious with the salon because it's a lot when it comes to finding the right blonde or just awkward conversation. Not here! She works with you so well and you immediately feel comfortable walking into the salon and through the entire interaction. And just comfortable, fun environment while you're there! Fun conversation, every one was so incredibly nice. I also can't sit still for long- severe back problems and adhd so it was nice I could get up and move as needed. This is not a high pressure sales environment. Obviously suggestions, opinions communicated etc...but the objective was not to sell me something or turn the chair over for the next client. No product pushing. No service pushing. No agenda pushing. Full stop. 2) Skill I've always thought of Blonding as a language; I now believe Caitlin wrote that language. She is 100% the doctor and the surgeon. I got exactly what | asked for. Read that again: EXACTLY what I asked for. Having experienced the accuracy of an exclusively blonde colorist, I cannot overstate that value. 3) Communication It's possible your colorist may have to interpret what you're asking for. It's possible this takes time. Cait spent time with me. She encouraged me to say more and made me feel comfortable (read: not-stupid) as I probably talked out of both sides of my mouth and stumbled through my wants, needs, pictures, let-downs, etc. Look, I don't care who's hair you've colored, or "red carpet" this, "social media following" that blah blee blah. All of your skill and knowledge and experience is lost on me if: I'm intimidated You have one eye on the clock for our entire consult You're annoyed with my inability to articulate Couple the thorough communication with the technical capability and B/B is in a whole other league, entirely. Caitlin, you should be really proud of this business. Ok. SO: I hesitate to comment on/share price and service-time because every blonde really is unique BUT since that's probably the info you're looking for, I'll say this: Re price: Not inexpensive ALTHOUGH more than fair (even before you consider comps at other salons) Re time: It takes as long as it takes. Dunno what else to say about that one. Its bleach, people. Maybe don't rush it? TL;DR? Um, "best". You get what you pay for. Proceed with confidence (and enthusiasm!) srsly though? This little beauty academy located in little Tokyo is where I used to go to get my Japanese straightening treatments done! I had waist length 3c curly hair so the first time they did the Japanese straightening it took 4 hours and two hair stylists - one of whom was Yasuko. I'm sure she's long gone having graduated but she was fabulous and so sweet! She and her co-stylist took really good care of me that day. And because it's a styling school the prices are lower: my Japanese treatment had only cost $100. I attached a pic of the result -- QUITE successful! I went back 2-3 more times after to get my roots done as they grew out curly of course, but after about 2 years of rocking pin straight hair I decided to stop treatments. I now have super short curly hair because the Japanese straightening treatments are permanent of course - the only way to get back to curly is to cut it off once the treatment has been done~ but that is what I wanted at the time! The one thing I do want to comment on is accessibility of this place: it's about as far east in LA as you can get. I lived near UCLA on the west side and didn't have a car, so I used to take the bus to get here and the ride was almost an hour, and lands you in a not-so-nice spot in East LA which is a short walk from the beauty school. Just be mindful of that if you're in a similar situation... I used to always plan the hair treatments early on Saturdays so it was light out both coming and going from the salon. While the outside area isn't very nice though, inside the salon is quite modern! It did strike me as a school though, there were lots of hair tools/products all over. But nevertheless, everything was clean. Overall absolutely recommend getting your hair done here, the staff/students do a really good job and you can get treatments cheaper than at an established salon!
