Chunk cut out of the front and a piece that was missed in the cut

I received the worst haircut of my life here. The technique used is to wash and dry your hair before a cut. That might be fine if you have straight or thin hair but for someone with thick naturally wavy hair this does not work. I did state that I only wear my hair straight. My hair was not blown out smooth instead it was a puffy rough dry. I walked in with smoother hair than I left with and my hair blows dries straight easily (I do it daily with a round brush). I asked for and showed photos of Hailey Bieber's current haircut. It's a simple bob. I left with puffy hair with a very sharp distinct band of layer and a base that was never even remotely symmetrical. I was shocked when I finally saw a full view of my hair. These photos are immediately after when I arrived home. While the manager offered the stylist fix it, I will not take up that offer. For this type of skill exhibited I would not dare go back.

Nova Arts Salon is a really cute and vibe-y salon settled on The Row next to the parking garage. It's dark and moody with lots of natural light and plants that fill the space. I found Anya on Reddit and came in on a nice Sunday to get a curly cut from her. She was super comfortable doing my hair and talking to me about what I wanted, and even made suggestions that went along with what my endgame was. I essentially told her I wanted to keep my bangs and my face framing little hair tendrils, and she can do what she wanted with the rest! From there, she asked questions such as how heavy my hair feels regularly/the last time I got it cut, if I like my hair to have volume or sit the way it is and mimicked with my hair how both versions looked, made observations and suggestions on where we could go. Honestly, this was the best experience I've had! She thinned out a lot of my hair as well since it gets pretty heavy for me, gave me a nice shape and my hair more personality, and even layers on the back to make everything more cohesive! Frankie was my wash tech (is that what they're called?) and she was great to talk to about books! She was also very cautious on making sure the water was just right for my scalp. Though when we rinsed with cold water it hit soooo good hehe.

Layered cut with bangs and face framing.

This is the best haircut I've had since I moved to LA. I've even been to private salons but this was a phenomenal experience. Rachel took so much good care of my hair and really listened to what I wanted to see in the end result. It felt like she really cared for my opinion rather than me just sitting in silence the whole time. It was so clean and stunning inside too!

I've been going to Nova for about 2 years now, idk maybe even more. My appointments have always been with Kelly and Amanda. Kelly does my coloring and she just gets it every time. She moves quick but still takes the time to have conversations and catch up with you. I love how I can just show her a picture and she already knows what to do and brings your vision to life. Now, Amanda is the one who cuts my hair. She does a great job on cutting and keeping the length of my hair when I want to keep it long. An FYI this salon has Specialists, that's why I am mentioning 2 women. Overall, I am happy I can say I enjoy my days at the salon. The vibe is there, I feel good after my app. , if I get hungry there are some good food and coffee options within walking distance.

Look no further!!! I always leave feeling on top of the world, between the service and professionalism there's no better place to get your hair done. Anya has been cutting my hair for a few years now (crazy how time flies) and she does a spectacular job - I always get a million compliments after seeing her and she's incredible at making your vision come to life. I also recently got my hair dyed for the first time in a long time and Vihan did such a great job at nailing the specific color and my hair is glowing. Truly a magical experience!!!

I always go for a bob, but for some reason my neck grew out longer than the rest of my hair so I ended up with a weird mullet-y growth back there. If that's what you're into, that's cool but I'm not cool enough to pull that off. In the end, Katherine tamed the chaos and I left with my clean bob I requested, with my hair trimmed back even more in the back to ensure it doesn't grow back wonky and embarrassing. It's a month post-haircut and everything still looks clean. Bonus points for having an adorable dog on site and also being opened on Sunday during Smorgasburg to allow my partner to eat BBQ to his hearts content unsupervised while I get my haircut.

I found Hair by Julianne Cho and was booked with Sumi, and I'm so glad I trusted her! Sumi was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive throughout the entire appointment. She actually recommended a softer, wavier perm, but I kept insisting I wanted it curlier (lol). She listened to exactly what I wanted while still giving me honest professional advice, which I really appreciated. She also recommended getting a haircut beforehand, and I'm SO glad I listened. I have really thick hair with a lot of density, and she spent about 40 minutes cutting it. She didn't rush at all and was so meticulous. She removed just enough weight while keeping my length, added beautiful long layers, and gave my hair so much more movement and dimension. The perm came out exactly how I was hoping! My hair feels so much lighter, the curls are beautiful, and I'm honestly obsessed with the result. I drove about an hour from the Valley, and it was 100% worth it. Parking was easy, the salon was clean and adorable, and they even had snacks and drinks for clients. Overall such a great experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to make the drive again. Jennifer agreed to accommodate me and even stayed after hours to work on me. She assessed my hair and decided what to do (we ended up removing 50% of the extensions -- the previous salon had added too much hair so she could charge me for more hair, which was one of the reasons I ended up looking like I was wearing a wig). Jennifer cut the width of the extensions and replaced them at the most natural position for my head shape, and blended everything together seamlessly. Jennifer, you are amazing!!! Thank you so much. I will definitely be back!

I was reminiscing today about my prior time in LA and remembered needing to review this place…read morebecause it's actually GREAT. This little beauty academy located in little Tokyo is where I used to go to get my Japanese straightening treatments done! I had waist length 3c curly hair so the first time they did the Japanese straightening it took 4 hours and two hair stylists - one of whom was Yasuko. I'm sure she's long gone having graduated but she was fabulous and so sweet! She and her co-stylist took really good care of me that day. And because it's a styling school the prices are lower: my Japanese treatment had only cost $100. I attached a pic of the result -- QUITE successful! I went back 2-3 more times after to get my roots done as they grew out curly of course, but after about 2 years of rocking pin straight hair I decided to stop treatments. I now have super short curly hair because the Japanese straightening treatments are permanent of course - the only way to get back to curly is to cut it off once the treatment has been done~ but that is what I wanted at the time! The one thing I do want to comment on is accessibility of this place: it's about as far east in LA as you can get. I lived near UCLA on the west side and didn't have a car, so I used to take the bus to get here and the ride was almost an hour, and lands you in a not-so-nice spot in East LA which is a short walk from the beauty school. Just be mindful of that if you're in a similar situation... I used to always plan the hair treatments early on Saturdays so it was light out both coming and going from the salon. While the outside area isn't very nice though, inside the salon is quite modern! It did strike me as a school though, there were lots of hair tools/products all over. But nevertheless, everything was clean. Overall absolutely recommend getting your hair done here, the staff/students do a really good job and you can get treatments cheaper than at an established salon!
