The cuts are ok, but the owner is absolutely unhinged. With their new prices, it's just not worth it. I showed up 10m late for an appointment and no one was there. The door was locked with the "Closed" sign. So I waited around for another 15 minutes and then the hair stylist returns. It's now much too late to cut my hair, she says. Fine, whatever, I'll rebook. When I had booked online the night before there were a dozen spots available, so it should be easy. And it was -- they had multiple open slots from 6:20 all the way to closing, with a few others scattered in the afternoon. The place isn't exactly busy. I come back at 6:20pm and the hair stylist is finishing up another client. They really squeeze appointments back-to-back, so they're often running late themselves or rushing your haircut. I didn't mind -- figured it was karma for being late myself that morning. I sat in the chair at 6:30 and got a decent haircut. Then comes the trouble. They had charged me for a no show that morning. I thought that was silly, because they weren't fully booked (or even close) and I had rebooked to the same day. I got on the phone with the owner, and WOW, what an absolute bitch. I've never used that word in a review before, but she really earned it. She had absolutely no interest in hearing what happened, just a full-on rant that I was 30 minutes late (I wasn't) and that I took up a slot that would have been filled (doubtful), and that her first stylist was stiffed out of a tip. I actually was going to offer to tip the first stylist if she removed the charge, but I couldn't even get a word in! She was on full Karen. "Rules for thee but not for me" I've been coming here for years, but no longer. Their "policies" are one-sided, and now that they've raised prices, it's not even the cheap place anymore. When I lived in St. Louis from 2014-2019, this was my go-to spot. They had been great. Courteous, kind, accommodating, and a damn good hair cut. I have since moved, but just got back in town for a wedding and desperately needed a haircut, so I had booked a 10:20 AM appointment for today a couple days in advance. I ended up getting there about 8 min late, which happens (and occasionally happened back in the day when I frequented them but with no issue). No one was there. There was a sign that said she'd return at 11. I waited till 11, and she showed up. She said I was more than 10 min late (false) so she can't help me. She very rude about it, arguing with me about when I said I came and how late I was, and emphasizing how she needed to take her 30 min break. No discussion of fitting me in, no initial call to me when she was thinking of going on break. She was focused on herself, not the customer. While the customer is definitely not always right, they should be treated with some semblance of respect. Overall a very unprofessional experience, and very disappointing given the positive experiences I had here for five years. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth when all I had wanted was a nostalgic experience at what used to be my favorite spot to get my hair cut and have a beer. read more

There's nothing on their website that says they can't take walk-ins so I came in and there was only one woman working with no other clients around. She didn't say a word to me, so I just sat down and waited. Several other men came in and it was apparent they had appointments, and then another hairdresser came in. After sitting for 20 minutes, she actually asked me whether not I had an appointment and when I said no, she told me she wouldn't be able to take me for almost 3 hours. Having worked in salon admin roles (without them knowing), I would give this barbershop NO stars. Tragic, right? So was the entire experience. To begin, they didn't get my friend's name correct, and when we corrected them- it turned into a running joke. Unprofessional. Did she take things into her own hands and decide herself how she thinks I should look? What am I paying you for? I am very particular about my hair and am huge on styling it and it is now so short I cant even do anything with it. My friend's hair was also done incorrectly by Katie and he asked to have nothing taken off the top because his hair doesn't grow fast and is thinning, yet after his haircut she told him she thought it was best to take some off because it looked like he had "dead ends" (which isn't her call to make, especially in his circumstances). However, she is probably a better haircutter than mine. If you are looking to have your hair ruined and want to hear about how miserable these women are and how much they hate working, you should come here. I've come here several times since the beginning of college, and was always happy paying $20 for the average haircuts I've gotten. Usually no complaints. My last visit here really pissed me off, though, and I got the most unprofessional haircut I've ever received from Vickie. If you come here, do not get an appointment with her. I had a big interview coming up and wanted to get myself cleaned up. Told Vickie to give me a fade 1 to 2 on the sides, and trim about an inch off the top. Pretty standard I thought. She swivels me around in the chair so I'm facing the TV above the entrance, and not the mirror. Weird. Now I realized she did that probably because if I had saw in the mirror what she was doing I would've stopped her immediately. She was the only haircutter in that day, so it's not like there was anybody else in to cut my hair. She proceeds to go like 2 inches too far up on both sides of my head, leaving me with a small island of hair on top. I feel something's up (and not seeing myself in the mirror) ask to be turned around so I could see how the cut was going. This is not an exaggeration. This was the worst haircut I've ever gotten. She then said she would try to "fix it." I gave her another shot. She then made it even worse. It was clear she had no idea what she was doing. I have been to a handful of places in St Louis, but generally come back to Cutters & Co. Every one of the ladies I have had cutting my hair have been friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. I am in and out the door in 20 minutes and have always left pleased with my haircut. Got a haircut here for the first time yesterday. The whole experience is very convenient, from the online reservation system to the accessible location in the basement of the Chase. For a $15.00 student rate, you get a standard men's haircut, shampoo in a massage chair, and a free drink. You can also get your parking validated here, too. I'd come back here again. I'm not picky about haircuts, but am pretty pleased a day after the experience (and normally it takes me a good three days to get used to my newly-shorn head!) Only downside is that the place is kind of hot and not so clean. It felt a little cramped and crowded and despite the massage, it was hard to unwind completely. I believe that in the right hands, a person's hair can be the most important part of their appearance. Since I need all the help I can get, I've always paid top dollar for my cuts. But when I heard of Cutters & Co., a men's hair salon inside the Chase, I decided to give it a try. Cutters & Co. is terrible. I explained to the stylist--who, to be fair, was very polite--exactly what I wanted: 1.) barely touch the sides because since I have jet black hair and a white scalp, I don't want the scalp to show 2.) taper the back slightly 3.) trim the top 1/2 inch and 4.) my ears aren't even, so when you do my sideburns, you have to make certain. She basically buzz cut me. She buzzed the sides down way too far, chopped the top, and didn't really touch the back. Oh, and when I got home, my sideburns were 1/4 inch off from one another (I know, I'm a freak). This may have been fine, if she were apologetic, but she wasn't. She asked if I liked it, and in my best attempt to still be nice, I said "it's fine." She could tell on my face that I thought it was shit, and she could damn well tell when I said, "hopefully, it grows out a bit by this weekend, because I'm in a wedding." But she did/said nothing, because she was already working on her next client--a guy that worked at the Chase that asked her if she could squeeze him in before she left (my haircut started at 2:25, and she had to leave by 3). She took one look at my head, and said "yeah, I can do it." Great, I'm a fucking rush job. Where I normally go, it takes between 1-2 hours to cut my hair, because the places I go have people who truly care about your needs because they know that a.) you're going to tip depending on the quality of the cut, and b.) they want your continued business. I told her that my friends and I heard of this place, and that I, being the pickiest about my hair, was the one sent in to decide if this place was worth going to--so she knew going in, that I potentially had a fleet of guys waiting in the wing to come in and give her business. What if the "guys" waiting, were 70 of my fraternity brothers? I just wish she wasn't so damn bubbly. I wanted to yell at her, but I was afraid she'd cry, and I'd look like an asshole with a bad haircut. I even tipped her 30% because she was looking and smiling right at me as I paid. Nestled in the basement of the Chase, Cutters occupies a very inviting alcove just around the corner from the stairs. For your $22, you get really great and friendly service, a nice men's haircut, a hot towel and shampoo, and a beer! Hell, even if they shaved half my head and left a rat tail, I'd still be hard-pressed to think I got ripped off! You can book appointments online, and just like the place makes you feel like you're stepping back in history, the website takes it one step further, with a design and functionality straight out of 1997, complete with the common accents you saw back when everybody used Netscape. It's comically retro, but still functional, and only rarely are they unable to take my appointment request. Everyone who works there is really nice, and they take good care of you. They seem to make it a point to develop a rapport with their clientele, and that goes a long way. I enjoy going there so much that I wish my hair grew faster. If I had one complaint, it's that every time Misty cuts my hair, she leaves a bald spot and a receding hairline when I know for a fact that I still have a thick, luxurious head of hair, just like Donald Trump. Most of us are accustomed to a quick buzz cut, but for roughly the same price, you can get much more at Cutter's. Cutter's has the distinguished feel of a business that belongs in the Chase. You get a hot towel facial wrap, massage chair, and a beer to go with it if you want (different beer every month, I think). It's in the basement of the Chase, so it feels like you're going to a private club, and I don't think I've ever seen it crowded there. My boyfriend started going here several months ago and has really enjoyed it! His brother started going and recommended it to us, so I called in and made an appointment for him - very friendly helpful staff. I was with him when it was time for his appointment and got to check it out, they have a beer fridge and a cozy waiting room. They didn't rush through his appointment and when he was done, his hair looked great! Each time since the results have looked just as good! Other nice points are that they validate your parking if you want to park in the garage, it is located in the Chase, which means when you're done you can grab a drink in the bar upstairs (which is where I hang out to wait) and the first time he went they gave him a nice drinking glass with their logo on it. First off I must say that my first visit was a huge success!! It was quick, I got a beer while the action was in progress and the aftermath of the cut was really good. I have been to a number of places... and thus far haven't really found a spot that not only knows what they are doing but also gives a good cut without a lot of direction... I have been going to Cutter's now for about 2 years, and have been very happy with everyone I've had cut my hair. By this point, I think I've had all of the ladies cut me. First, I like being able to make my appointment online. Only once in probably 25 visits, has my time been taken by the time they attempted to confirm my appointment. Every other time, I generally get the appointment I ask for, and I'm not booking in advance. I get on their website the morning I want my hair cut, and there are a few times available throughout the day, and one works. All of the staff are friendly...I wish they remembered me, because they ask a lot of the same questions, even though one or two of them have cut me at least a half dozen times, but I understand they see a million people a week, and have probably cut 100 heads at least, since the last time I was there. When I can't usually grab a beer when I'm there...it's usually late morning, or early afternoon on a week/work day. It's still nice that it's there, if I'm ever there on a weekend, or late in the day. I do usually grab a diet come. Last time, I had both of my kids with me, and they sat in the waiting area, one with an iPhone and the other with an iPad. They offered to put on Nickelodeon for the kids, which I thought was nice. Especially since they are 2 and 3 1/2, and have short attention spans. Lastly, I like the hot towel they throw on your face, while they wash your hair at the end of the cut. All in all, I like Cutter's a lot, it's only about 10 minutes from home, and it's certainly a step up from the chain hair places, but less costly than a true "salon", as u can get a men's haircut for $25. read more

I always feel like I'm imposing on the staff here as I meekly take my seat in the fancy antechamber and wait for my name to be put in the computer. Upon entry of a potential customer, the staff at most haircut places will take a short break from cutting hair (or reading a magazine) to greet you and place you in the computerized line. That's not always the case here. However, once you're enrolled, it's smooth sailing. The staff offers you a drink, a mechanical chair massage, a hot towel, and of course, a shave and a haircut. I was running 5 minutes late for my appointment because of a traffic accident, explained this over the phone and the woman was very rude about rescheduling me or offering accommodations. While I understand that they are usually in a rush, on a previous visit I was asked to wait nearly 20 minutes while they finished with someone else (i was on time for this appointment) so it's not like they are unable to accommodate me, it's that they don't want to! In addition I was on the phone for a very brief amount of time before the lady just said "okay okay bye" without finishing the conversation as I was in the middle of a sentence. I've been going to Cutters & Co. for a year now and I've had a solid haircut every time. The facility is nice and the stylists are always polite. My hair needs are pretty basic, though. I get the same cut every time and I don't stray far from the standard "number four" cut. The number system they assign to you is based on what cut you get. That way, when you come back and there's a different stylist, they already have an idea what sort of cut you're looking for. It's worked very well for me so far, but then again, my haircut needs are pretty basic. I think what I like bast though is the fact you can reserve an appointment online. Their website isn't much to look at, but after a little navigating, you can find an online calendar and set a time. You don't have to have a reservation, but they're so randomly busy, I always just make one. Parking is located in the Chase Plaza garage. They'll ask if you've parked there every time you pay so they can validate your parking. read more

I am so happy I found this local hair cutter in the CWE. The service is great and the stylists are very talkative, but not in an annoying or ungenuine way. This part was quite a new experience for me. These guys (or should I say gals) are great! They're friendly and professional and do great work. I made an appointment the day before for 11am. I showed up and they saw me right away, offered me a beer and got to work. They trimmed up my beard, achieved the cut I was after perfectly, and washed my hair for me. Also, since they didn't sell hair product there, they offered to let me come down and use their hair gel anytime I needed it while I was staying at the Chase, because I had forgotten my own at home. Great service from friendly, beautiful ladies! What's better? I would definitely recommend this place to anyone needing a good cut. And even though they're in the Chase, they're not affiliated with them, meaning you don't have to be staying at the hotel and they will validate your parking for you. read more

Cut quality and customer service were below what I get at a place like Supercuts or Great Clips but at a higher price, which was surprising given how the website and 'history' portray it as a higher end experience. Luckily my hair grows fast so it should only take a couple weeks before I can get it fixed somewhere else. This place is beloved by every college student I know, and with good reason. For just $17 with a student ID (upped the price by $2 from last year, but still well worth it), you can get a free craft beer, a high-quality haircut from an attractive and talkative stylist, and a scalp massage and post-cut wash complete with a massage chair and a hot towel on your face. What more could a man ask for? It's tucked away in a cool little spot in the basement of the Chase, so it feels like you're a member of an elite club when you visit. I look forward to my haircuts here, and can see why this place enjoys legendary status at WashU. I highly reccomend; my only word of caution is to be very specific with what you want done to your hair, because sometimes the stylists get carried away and go with what they think looks good, rather than what you want. read more

The whole time I was there they complained about staff that wasn't present and also complained about how they didn't want to work and would refuse to answer the phone. Disclaimer: I am writing this review on my husband's behalf. My husband has been a client of Cutters & Co for two years making regular appointments and until recently has enjoyed his experience. Ownership offers a Veterans discount of $5 per haircut, a moderately generous offer to the men and woman who serve our country. After two years of regular patronage my husband was asked if he was an "active" member of our Armed Forces. As my husband was honorably discharged in June 2015 after 12 years of service and serving his country in OIF and OEF he is no longer "active" and was told he would no longer be eligible for this $5 discount. He politely paid the full amount and left. To be clear, the monetary value of this gratuitous offer is not the reason for my unfavorable review. It is the embarrassment my husband felt when confronted with this and the complete lack of patriotism offered. The concept of cherry picking which Veterans are worthy of this small token of gratitude is ludicrous. I cannot fathom standing in front of any man or woman and telling them that their service is no longer appreciated because they are no longer actively serving. This is offensive at best. Offer a Military Discount or don't but do not force your employees to look into the faces of our Veterans and tell them that their past service is not appreciated. read more

My friend who is female and on business with the government for a few months in St. Louis recently went here for barber service on her "men's style" haircut. She was told by staff and then also later by the manager, they will unequivocally NOT under any circumstances cut and style a woman's hair. Also, when my friend then pressed them on their trans persons' haircut policy, they had no answer, but instead invited her to use the "female" salon upstairs from the barber shop. We have contacted the HRC headquarters, and also in St Louis, since this business seems to be asking for a lawsuit. Its awesome that so many clients here are guys you all share the same ADD bullshit and never think of getting a haircut till that day. Last time the fridge was stocked with Heineken's and Foster's. It had been a long day, I was early and had 3 while I waited, on the arm. 4. My girl is the best. I used to go to her when she worked elsewhere and they are lucky to have her. She takes her time, is a perfectionist. Great scalp massage, shampoo, conditioner, chair massage, and a hot towel for $20. Are you kidding me? So for all of you clowns who pay $16 for Great Clips or wherever the hell else you go, keep being a douchebag. Got my haircut here today using an Instant Groupon for $16. It was easy to schedule an appointment over the phone. When I arrived, I was offered a drink (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, or Budweiser). My stylist was very pleasant, and the cut was super quick. After the cut, she offered to shampoo/scalp massage -- I said, "Yes!" of course. To my surprise, it included a mechanical chair massage and a hot towel for my face. Between the cheap price, nice cut, shampoo, massage, towel, and drink -- I'll be back. I appreciated that I didn't get a sales pitch of any kind - no product pushing at all here. In addition, the ambiance of the Chase Park Plaza is also really nice. Definitely my most enjoyable hair cut in St. Louis. read more

Best Barbershop I've ever been to. Phenomenal customer service. Couldn't recommend it more. I went there sunday morning looking for a haircut, and knocked on the door before bothering to read the sign that clearly said "closed sundays." But the two owners who were back there were still kind enough to let me in anyways, and were beyond willing to schedule an appointment for me the next day. We chatted a bit, I told them what I was looking for - I was shaving my head for a cancer wig donation and wanted to be sure they could accommodate that. They'd done that sort of thing before, they said, so I felt comfortable scheduling for the next day. They even gave me a complimentary beer on the way out - no barber shop has ever given me a beer just for stopping by! So I came back the next day, and the barber cutting my hair couldn't have been friendlier about how they were going to shave my head and store my hair. They offered me ANOTHER beer, AND told me when it came time to pay that, since they knew I was a student and was giving this wig to charity, that they'd just waved the price entirely. Two free beers and a free haircut! I walked out of the shop in such a buzz that I got all the way back to my apartment before I realized I completely forgot to tip the poor woman who cut my hair. I went straight back there to give her her rightfully earned tip. I know exactly where I'm getting my next haircut. read more
