Unique old school barber shop on Grand. Great cut at an amazing price. As of 7/23/22 it was only $20 for a Mens barber cut. The pricing is a steal compared to "trendy" barber shops and the cut is far superior to corporate chains like Great Mistakes. My barber was Katie and one other barber was working. Very nice people. I have a few strong opinions about male grooming. First, with no offense to the many great cosmetologists out there, men should go to barbers. Going to the barber shop is a male ritual where you get a haircut and a shave (and eyebrow trimming etc) and talk about guy things while reading guy magazines. These simple male pleasures are becoming harder and harder to come by in an increasingly androgynous world of women hockey fans and men going to wedding and baby showers (a shudder goes through my body just thinking about a shower,...). Many years ago I was told (probably by a barber) that barber training was more rigorous, but I know that this is no longer true, if it ever was. Second, a man should pick a barber and stick with him or her. My barber knows my hair, how I like my hair cut, side burns, cowlicks, etc. Going to Wacky Cuts or whatever for an expensive haircut by different person every time is just silly. This brings me to the Wyoming Barber shop. This barber shop is a St. Louis landmark that has been in continuous operation at the corner of S Grand and Wyoming for more than 100 years. The owners have changed many times in the last century, but the Wyoming Barber Shop has been a neighborhood constant -- probably the only neighborhood constant. The current owner/barber is Marco. Marco has been my barber for the last 6 years. Haircuts are $12 and Marco has always done a great job. We talk about baseball, football, and occasionally politics in election years. This is everything a barber shop should be. In addition to Marco, two women currently cut hair but these positions have changed hands several times in the last 6 years. Appointments are taken during the week, but Saturdays are first come first serve. I always go on Saturdays with minimal waits. Do yourself a favor guys and come back to the barber shop. Worst haircut ever. Dark haired Anna was mad because I didn't know my "numbers". I am 61 and this is the only barbershop that has ever ask me for my numbers. A real barber should be able to understand simple instructions. Dark haired Anna either didn't listen or was too mad and just she did her own thing. I've had 2 haircuts here. The first was alright but the second was OMG awful. The place has rules. All my life I've been going to barbers and hair salons...first time I've ever seen a barber shop with RULES posted like customers are dumb or something. Really silly. My first barber was Anna and she did a decent job. She wrote the number of the blade or clippers on a card...so I'd know for next time. Just odd to me but still, whatever. The second cut was nuts. Anna was out and the guy who cut it was likely the owner. He's not a super friendly guy. He's extremely aggressive as he cuts your hair...did my boyfriend's cut too and just wasn't great. Missed parts of his hair and overall not a great cut. He trimmed my hair too short in the back so I've had to keep it trimmed up now, really annoying! The price is decent but I can't deal with another bad cut so I'm off to find another barber in the STL area. read more

I grew up with barber shops. This one has all the good stuff. Even as a first time customer he treated me like I'd been there for years. The haircut was topnotch I told him what I needed and he understood. Not like a great clips where the ladies have yet to be taught the art of blending the sides. This is my one pet peve. I was also very impressed when he lathered up his hand and shaved the back of my neck with a straight razor. Since I now live ablock away I will definitely be frequenting this location! read more

Recently looking for a classic barber shop, I searched Yelp and found a few good reviews for this place. I called to make an appointment with Marco. He gave me an EXCELLENT cut. He has a very good eye for detail and made sure my cut was exactly what I wanted. $13 for a cut and $13 for a shave!? I couldn't believe the price when I heard it and was very much looking forward to my experience. With regards to the cut, I was very pleased. Marco was friendly, knowledgeable and gave me exactly what I asked for. I appreciate the straight razor finishing in the back, although he did cut me a bit. No pain, just a little blood, which he was quick to clean up. So far, I'm very pleased with my $13 investment. Now comes the shave, my favorite part. Chair goes back, feet go up, lather, hot towel on the face, re-lather, and razor to face. But something's off. It wasn't a straight razor. Wasn't a safety razor. Appeared to be a standard disposable razor. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Now, I do realize it was $13. And in their defense, at no point was I told it would be a straight razor shave. Had I not had my own expectations, I would have been happy. The shave was fine, without cuts, razor burn, etc. But unfortunately, I did have higher expectations. I stopped in here today after being fed up with the meth heads over at great clips that have been butchering my head the past few months. If only I would have known about this little spot... Anyway, I called earlier in the day and was booked for the last haircut of the day. Marco was the only barber on at the time and was very welcoming. Even though I was the last cut of the day, I didn't feel like he was rushing to get off work as he paid great detail to my cut and had me looking good by the end. I wasn't bothered by the mindless conversation that every other bimbo hairdresser likes to force upon me which tells me he is paying attention to what he is doing and isn't distracted by asking me what my favorite color is or smacking bubble gum in my ear. Marco is awesome and so is his barber shop. It has a real old school feel to it which adds to the pleasant experience. Why would any guy go to MasterCuts or Great Clips? I lived in St Louis for 4 years and it took me 3.5 to find this place. I have been getting my hair cut here every since. First this is a DUDE'S barbershop. The decor is clearly a place for dudes to hang out and get their hair cut. There are no fancy shampoos or magazines for crazy hair cuts here. All 3 barbers are excellent . I have never had a bad haircut and they clearly have attention to detail as I have never left with a lopsided haircut. I'm Asian and finding people who can cut Asian hair well has been very nice. Prices are $14 for hair cut. cash only. They take appointments on weekdays and NO walk ins. I started calling for an appointment and the woman who answered was not very nice. Despite my questions (first haircut in the US) she kept on repeating what time I wanted to go. Whatever. I arrived just in time (I didn't want any problem after the phone conversation) and they sat me right away. The woman who did my haircut was nice and helping, as I didn't know which were "my numbers". I explained myself and she did her best, which finally was quite near what I wanted. I've been going to this place every 1-2 weeks since 2006. The woman who cuts my hair is Anna with dark hair (there's a blonde Anna and a dark hair Anna). She knows exactly how to cut my hair, She's NEVER given me a bad cut, and I've been going to her since she started there. Is she Ms "Chatty Cathy" --all smiles and giggles? No. But that's not why I go to a barber shop. If I wanted to get my hair styled and have "coffee" talk I'd go to the galleria or some styling salon. I love going to an old fashioned barber and simply getting a cut I like and not having to feel like I'm rude for not wanting to chat with the barber. I took my 6yo son here today for the second time. First time was fine - a dark haired woman cut his hair and was cursory but gentle. I liked that it was not a "kids place" and just a spot to get a fast, nice, old fashioned haircut. Today, however, the man who cut his hair was just mean. He ripped at my sons hair telling him "THIS is why you brush you hair" and then when my son started to cry he got rougher. I told him to be nice and he mellowed out a little bit, but was just rough and scary - like, making the scissors as loud as possible over my kids eyes. Understand dear Yelp readers - my child does not require kid gloves and I am not a helicopter parent or a fussy customer; this man should not be allowed near children. read more

He is a no-nonsense barber. I've gotten my hair cut mostly by Marco but occasionally by the female at the back chair. I do remember once having the experience the previous (former military) reviewer where her clippers pulled hairs and it was a somewhat painful experience. When you go in and try to "explain" in simple terms your preferred haircut, they'll ask your "numbers." After your first visit Marco will write your "preferred numbers" on a business card which makes the subsequent visits take no time to explain your cut. Generally it's size of clippers on side and length up top. Second thing, if you go on weekends, you usually have to have appointments. I work 2 jobs and he's closed Sun-Mon, so my opportunities are slim. I went in anyway and he got me in (scheduled guy was late so he showed when I was about 1/2 done). He still took his time on my cut. As mentioned, nice warm straight razor ending for back of the neck and you're out. Being prior military I miss the days of $8 hack-a-thons (difference between good and bad haircut? Two weeks!! ) but the price here is better than Goofy Clips near $20 fee. read more

I go in like Marty Feldman and come out Gregory Peck. The cut is dirt cheap and high quality. Absolutely love this place. My husband gets his hair cut here so we decided to take our son (9 months at his first haircut and 14 months when we went today) and they did an amazing job both times!! We went to a chain place in between the two cuts and it looked horrible and he cried the whole time. Wyoming Barber Shop took great care of my baby!
