I am rarely on this side of town, but recently stopped here on the way back home in an effort to avoid the big box stores for a small item I need for a repair. Shep's turned out to be the exact place I needed it to be and I was able to scoop up what I was after and head home without stopping anywhere else! When you first arrive you may see parking as limited and street only, but given their location and attachment to the next door market, they share a covered parking garage that provides you plenty of parking! But if street parking is your thing, there is plenty of that as well. When I arrived, I was greeted immediately by an associate who promptly took me to the aisle I needed and helped me find the product. He was very friendly and helpful on the floor and then escorted me to the registers in the back to ring me up when I was ready. In between the goods and the register, I did walk around and explore a little and I was impressed with their selection of items, the flow of the store and the overall cleanliness as well. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood Ace Hardware. While it sadly not in my neighborhood, I certainly could see myself swinging back in if the need ever arises again, until then I will happily recommend Shep's to my friends in this area of town!

All you last-minute needy people skip the big-box and head for Bates. Avoid those long parking lot…read morehikes and 20-min checkout line waits, and only spend the medium bucks here at Ace. While most other stores have been pillaged this time of year by the incoming GT student throng, you'll be able to find exotic necessary items like shower curtain rings and plungers on the cheap. Save some time as well without having to drive OTP for a non-empty shelf. The only delay for us was picking from the mildly vast choices for each item. Should it be the plastic rings in one of three colors, or metal? Which of the five plunger types? We could stay for hours, but let's not get carried away. Near the register we noticed the array of fun non-hardware type items for sale. We'll have to hit that section up next time when not running to setup a college student's bathroom on the fly. Friendly speedy checkout experience--nearly surpass the Big Green Egg aroma outside the front door, almost. As I approached the key stand to get some keys cut, there were two employees ready to help. Shout-out to super-friendly Sahil for proactively asking me about my keys as soon as I pulled them out of my pocket. She let me know what my options were and I chose to have three standard keys cut at $2.98 each. Three total rang up to $9.74 after tax. Sahil told me this is the "fun" Ace Hardware and I could see why. The staff trended younger and more "hip." I'm a fan of Ace Hardware in general because each store feels like a small, local, and unique business. This one especially so. It's popular among locals with a strong sense of neighborhood and community. And, like other city Ace Hardware stores, it was densely-packed with all sorts of useful hardware and garden items. If you've never visited this location before, be sure to check out the beautiful plant room. They have a good selection of plants and a big wall of seeds. They even sell King of Pops here. Limited free parking is available on-site. I visited during a peak time and was able to snag a spot. If no spots are available, just park on Drewry St NE (also free). When I arrived at the paint section, I was told that the paint matching system might not show all of the ingredients since it sometimes doesn't read white paint well. Seeing me hesitate proceeding with the paint match, the paint associate went out of their way to go ahead and run the paint sample, knowing there was a slim chance that it would be able to identify all of its ingredients. I'm so glad that she did this because it was able to identify all of the ingredients from the paint sample. Overall, it was a really positive interaction with associate being patient and helpful!

Generally, I've found the folks at Ace to be more accessible, knowledgeable, and helpful than those at the bigger stores. Shep's Midtown Ace is no exception. Shep's Midtown Ace opened in January 2015. I watched from across the street, from inside my dentist's office, as this place came together. It's certainly one of the nicest-looking Ace stores I've seen to date, especially in terms of its facade. Like other urban and in-town Ace stores, they efficiently pack a lot of useful inventory into the store. This one has two levels. The store is located at the corner of Juniper and 7th. Free parking is located inside the deck next door. Enter via Juniper. You don't need to enter any of the gated areas inside the deck. There are street-level spots reserved for Ace customers that will be on your right just after entering the deck. You don't need to grab a parking ticket or anything. I came here needing a tool to replace a recessed light bulb in a high/vaulted ceiling (about 14 feet high). Shortly after I entered the store, an employee greeted me and asked me if I needed help finding anything. I told him what I needed and he told me exactly where I could find it in the lighting section upstairs. The bulb changing kit has a telescoping pole that extends to 11 feet and three attachments: one for recessed and track lighting (a suction), one for standard incandescent bulbs, and one for floodlights. It cost $27.21 after tax which I thought was a little pricey, but not excessive (otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it). I was satisfied with my experience and will definitely return. I like this and the other Ace Hardware near me (Bates Ace Hardware on Howell Mill) about the same. They're both good.

I recently went in for advice on how to mount a tv into metal studs and Mark talked me through the different options I had and gave me his recommendations afterwards - it was all I could've asked for and more. I definitely recommend coming in for all of your handy needs. Plus they have free parking right around the corner!
