Wood they cut Unusable as table top

Today I had one of the worst customer service experiences at Home Depot. The lumber area was a mess - a half-pallet stacked under the wrong label, with pricing more than 3x off. The associate cutting my wood ignored my requests, told me "he knows best," and left me with rough, incorrect, unusable cuts. He asked me five separate times what the measurements of my cut were. Not once did he write them down.I did not realize he cut based on incorrect measurements until I returned home to my project. Now I have unusable pieces of wood. When I called the store for help, I was disconnected, left on hold for 45 minutes, argued with, and then dismissed by a male manager who repeatedly told me, "ma'am, we cannot do that" before hanging up. All I wanted was a small corrected piece I could have picked up locally. Instead, I was treated like I was asking for something ridiculous. As a woman who shops at Home Depot weekly- more often than my grocery store- I felt completely dismissed and disrespected. This is unacceptable treatment of any customer, let alone a loyal one.

When I moved recently and pulled my area rugs out of storage, they really needed some love in the form of a good cleaning. I thought that I'd do the makeover myself after being quoted some crazy prices, I don't mind a lil work! When I looked around online for a rug cleaner to rent, there were so many businesses that said they rented them so I started to compare prices. Well, when one business stated they offered rentals online but then said differently on the phone, I moved onto to Home Depot. Getting a team member online was easy and they quickly confirmed the ability to rent the cleaner and informed me that I could come right in. I was guided to the tool rental department (wayyy in the back) by a team member when I entered the store and hopped to it. The tool rental area is full of alllll sorts of pieces of equipment that I didn't even know were available for rent! If you're in a career needing heavy-duty tools, or if you're just working on some projects at home, you should definitely check them out. There were a few gentlemen in front of me in line but it seemed like only I was waiting only a minute or two before I was helped by a friendly team member. Pricing for the rug cleaner was extremely reasonable (And usually makes more sense when you rent for over 24hrs) but I wish solution was included lol. Oh well! Now, getting this in my coupe was a PAIN. I wish they offered some kind of cart or something, that sucker was heavier than me. Luckily, a nice gentleman who was outside saw a damsel in distress and helped me. *eyelash flutter* The rug cleaner was in great shape and worked like a dream. Totally worth every dime. (I just wish I could have had it delivered or picked up, but I am lazy. And weak.) When I returned the equipment 22 hours later, it was an incredibly smooth return. Will definitely look into them for any other equipment rentals I may need!

The checkout process was a breeze and they helped me learn and signup for their rewards program. I'm glad this is my neighborhood Ace Hardware. There is ample of parking besides the store. As I am being rung out at the register, the cashier, a middle-aged Caucasian male, looks at me and says, "Your address awfully nice for going out tagging." Then he chuckled. I found this to be highly offensive when I called him out on it. He responded well: " I don't see anything wrong with it. I was just making a joke." I informed him that words hurt, and if I were a Caucasian male, he would not have made that statement. Due to my experience, I will never go back to this or any Ace Hardware's

During my visit, it seemed everywhere I turned, an employee was there to greet me and ask me if I needed anything. As I approached the key stand to get some keys cut, there were two employees ready to help. Shout-out to super-friendly Sahil for proactively asking me about my keys as soon as I pulled them out of my pocket. She let me know what my options were and I chose to have three standard keys cut at $2.98 each. Three total rang up to $9.74 after tax. Sahil told me this is the "fun" Ace Hardware and I could see why. The staff trended younger and more "hip." I'm a fan of Ace Hardware in general because each store feels like a small, local, and unique business. This one especially so. It's popular among locals with a strong sense of neighborhood and community. And, like other city Ace Hardware stores, it was densely-packed with all sorts of useful hardware and garden items. If you've never visited this location before, be sure to check out the beautiful plant room. They have a good selection of plants and a big wall of seeds. They even sell King of Pops here. Limited free parking is available on-site. I visited during a peak time and was able to snag a spot. If no spots are available, just park on Drewry St NE (also free). The lot is reserved for Intown Ace customers only.

The lot is tight and hectic, and I've actually had my car door hit while parked, which immediately set a negative tone for my visits. Inside, experiences with staff have been inconsistent. The front desk employees seem somewhat engaged, but not fully. On one visit, a staff member confidently directed me to an item, only for me to return and ask again--at which point they looked it up and told me it was on the opposite side of the store. Unfortunately, they still didn't have what I needed, and that scenario has happened more than once. Over time, those repeated issues led me to stop shopping at this particular location. I genuinely like the Lowe's brand overall and have had much better experiences at other stores--this one just hasn't met the same standard for me.

As opposed to big box home…read moreimprovement retailers like Home Depot and Lowe's, Ace stores are smaller and really exude a more genuine and authentic neighborhood feel. Generally, I've found the folks at Ace to be more accessible, knowledgeable, and helpful than those at the bigger stores. Shep's Midtown Ace is no exception. Shep's Midtown Ace opened in January 2015. I watched from across the street, from inside my dentist's office, as this place came together. It's certainly one of the nicest-looking Ace stores I've seen to date, especially in terms of its facade. Like other urban and in-town Ace stores, they efficiently pack a lot of useful inventory into the store. This one has two levels. The store is located at the corner of Juniper and 7th. Free parking is located inside the deck next door. Enter via Juniper. You don't need to enter any of the gated areas inside the deck. There are street-level spots reserved for Ace customers that will be on your right just after entering the deck. You don't need to grab a parking ticket or anything. I came here needing a tool to replace a recessed light bulb in a high/vaulted ceiling (about 14 feet high). Shortly after I entered the store, an employee greeted me and asked me if I needed help finding anything. I told him what I needed and he told me exactly where I could find it in the lighting section upstairs. The bulb changing kit has a telescoping pole that extends to 11 feet and three attachments: one for recessed and track lighting (a suction), one for standard incandescent bulbs, and one for floodlights. It cost $27.21 after tax which I thought was a little pricey, but not excessive (otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it). I was satisfied with my experience and will definitely return. I like this and the other Ace Hardware near me (Bates Ace Hardware on Howell Mill) about the same. They're both good.
