I get great prices by shopping with monthly coupons and find the general/consumer part of the store staff lovely and helpful. A few of them truly brighten your day. However I am writing because with rare exception, the pharmacy staff is overtaxed, impatient and, frankly, downright rude. There seems to be a morale problem in that department that I think the store needs to be aware of and address. I've never been to a pharmacy where the pharmacy staff is so consistently discourteous and uncaring. I really hope they find out what the issue is that makes their staff so unhappy and address it. read more

It's convenient, but some of the employees have issues. I use the self-checkout so I can just get in, buy what I need and get out...I don't need an employee hovering over me and barking orders at me - "Press this button!" "Press that button!" "Hit 'Skip Bagging!'" If I wanted your help, I would have asked for it! I use these machines all the time! It's called "Self-Checkout" for a reason! Back off! Always overpriced, often under stocked. But as a college student who can't drive and doesn't want to take the bus to target all the time, it's an essential part of life, like it or not. Convenient location does not compensate for the frequent lack of common medications at this poorly run store.

This has been my pharmacy for 4 & 1/2 years, used to love them. Now it is like pulling teeth to get them to deliver & they have gotten significantly less polite; sometimes verging on rude. The one plus, the man who does their deliveries couldn't be nicer or more helpful, unfortunately he doesn't call the shots! My meds are getting delivered so close to my running out of them, plus the incredible hassle it has become, I am seriously thinking of switching drugstores. Nothing I have tried to impress upon them re: how much I hate the way they've changed has made a dent. Cashier was so nice! knew I was a college student looking for cheap dorm stuff. help me price check and give evaluation of each object. Exterior of building needs more store windows for natural light. I bought one of everything from the travel size area. waiting for my stuff to arrive from LA through UPS. good pit stop and cheaper than the NU campus bookstore. clean and the staff always goes out of their way to make sure we are doing well. Prices are to be expected for a typical Walgreens/CVS type store. Good selection. Aisles are a bit narrow, so if you are big and carry a backpack like me you may have some trouble when others head down the aisle. They lean heavily on the automated registers here, so if you have a lot of stuff, you may have to wait awhile for a register occasionally. I come here quite frequently, and what happens too often is that as soon as any type of problem hits the line slows to a crawl, (i.e problems with coupons, confused customer, malfunctioning automated checkout ETC). The employees get a panicked look on their faces, and will frequently huddle up behind a register trying to fix one person's problem whilst seven others wait needlessly. Calls for help over the intercom often go unheeded. Why not open a second register instead? Employees are polite and friendly, if not exactly schooled in keeping the line moving. Did I mention the automated checkout? It is neither fast nor efficient. It is also easily confused. Take an item off the scale? MELTDOWN! Now you must wait for an employee to clear you. It's only saving grace is that it saves the company's bean counters money. Otherwise it fails at every key metric of its job. read more

I dropped off a prescription at the CVS Pharmacy on Sherman Ave in downtown Evanston. They told me it would take "a day or two" to fill it. The person at the pharmacy counter then walked away. She did not come back, even when I called to her. I waited, and she finally came back to tell me that I would have to leave, and they would call me when my prescription was filled; I told her I needed to give her my contact information, and she said she did not have the time to take it, and I would have to call when they weren't "so busy." There were three other people working in the pharmacy, and two of them appeared to be on break, as they were leaning against the counter talking about their social lives. I called three days later. I asked after my prescription and was told that the insurance had denied payment and that my doctor would need to fill out some forms and send them to the insurance company. I gave the man my contact information, which he did not want to take. He then told me that I should "probably call to check" as they "rarely have time to call people when their prescriptions are ready." I called my doctor, who rushed the paperwork through. I called the pharmacy back two days later to check on the prescription. They told me that my doctor had still not sent the paperwork to the insurance company (incorrect) and that I should call back in "a few days." I called every two days for 8 days. Then I received a letter from my insurance company, in the mail, saying that they had approved the prescription. I called the pharmacy, and they claimed they had no such approval. I called the next day and was told they did not have a prescription for anyone with my name. I called my doctor, who called the pharmacy and was told they were filling the prescription and would call me. That was yesterday. Today I called to find out if the prescription was filled, nearly three weeks after dropping off the prescription. I was told that they had filled the prescription A WEEK AGO, and because I had not come to pick it up, they "un-filled it." So now it will take "at least three hours" to refill it. If I could give them lower than 1 star, I would. read more

This CVS is the closest to the Northwestern campus, so students use it for pretty much everything. They have a fairly good selection of toiletries, school supplies, groceries, & even dorm items. The staff is very helpful & friendly, & the express checkout is easy (& does take extra care cards and coupons). The pharmacy is efficient, & the pharmacists are very understanding that a lot of students come here that have moved & take the time to make sure we get our prescriptions on time as well. And they even offer flu shots! Some reviewers say the selection here isn't that great and while they don't have EVERY product under the sun, this is a fairly large CVS & mostly anything you'll need will be here. This is the worst company and doesn't bear the inventory to be properly addressed as a "pharmacy." CVS pharmacy has few choices at high prices with mean at worst (and incompetent at best) staff. I have found the same products elsewhere at 50% of the CVS price (or better prices). It's a shame that Walgreens doesn't move in across the street and put them out of business. read more

DELAYS RISK THE HEALTH OF A PATIENT An ill young patient mustered all her strength to get to the CVS (Sherman Ave) pharmacy to fill an essential psychotropic prescription. The insurance company's rules required a specific approval from the prescribing physician. Faced with a weak and ill young woman the pharmacy nevertheless refused to provide insurance information to the prescribing physician. The pharmacy ALSO refused to provide the patient (covered through her parent who lives in another state) with the on-file information for her insurance company so she herself could call the insurance company. All this while the young woman was too weak to be doing battle for herself. When the insurance holder called the pharmacy, the managing pharmacist refused to come to the phone. **The resulting delay in treatment has exposed the patient to heightened risk at a time when she lacks the physical and emotional stamina to endure it. The interpersonal ineptitude of the pharmacist dangerously increased the burden of stress on an already compromised, fragile patient.** read more

Incompetent fools here. I needed a refill and I had a question about the meds I was taking so I spoke to someone for a few minutes. She told me that she would refill my meds for me and they would be ready that afternoon. When I came in to pick up my refill a few days later, the girl behind the counter couldn't find it and of course, the system was down. When I called back in to see if my meds were found, I discovered that the prescription hadn't even been renewed!! WTH? read more

Horrible service and the pharmacist and managers are rude, arrogant and just plain terrible people. After my 25 year old daughter got treated horrible by the staff and pharmacist my wife decided to complain in person when she picked up a prescription. To her surprise the manager and head pharmacist treated her with the same completely rude behavior. I recommend that you do NOT go here and that you do Not use the pharmacy. After multiple issue with them we have filed a formal complaint. Stay away!! read more

The sales people are extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. They do not know what they sell and are extremely slow and reluctant to help. The lines are always incredibly long because no one knows there is a self-checkout. There is a person there whose profession it is to tell people about the self-checkout, but she prefers not to do her job. The people at the pharmacy are much nicer and keen to help out. I have never had a good shopping experience here except at the pharmacy. read more

I've been here several times over the last few weeks. This is the worst convenience store I've ever been to and I've lived several different places. Nothing is ever in stock. It's like they just don't bother to restock the shelves and/or they just don't order enough. Everything is overpriced. Today I went here, like more than half the selection of what I wanted was out. Because I'm leaving on a trip really soon, I went to the counter and asked if they had more. The woman who I spoke to didn't seem to understand what I was saying, seemed very annoyed that I had been presumptuous enough to dare to approach her and speak to her (she didn't even seem to be busy doing anything), and dismissively told me to just come back later. Then when another employee walked by, she just said "ask him" and walked away. He was helpful, but it turned out they just didn't have any more. Overall it was an unpleasant experience. Another time I was using the self check-out near closing time (it was definitely before closing time though) and a woman employee who I think wanted to start closing down the machines literally stared at me the entire time I was checking out and it made me feel really uncomfortable and anxious. Lots of stuff here costs like twice as much as it does other places. I do like that they have like 4 self check-out stations, but even when it's crowded they don't really ever have more than one person at the register and just have everyone do self check-out.
