This Walgreens is large and airy, bright and clean, with a more upscale feel to it. It is fully stocked. One big advantage of this store is that it is opened 24 hours a day! Another factor that impresses me most is the store's management. It has not just one, but two very nice and helpful managers. It had happened that I had clipped a $9 digital coupon online. Its requirement was to spend $40(or $30?) in a Walgreens store and I would get the coupon when I checked out. However, it didn't happen even after I spent the required amount. Long story short, the female manager was very nice and helpful, she apologized and manually added a $10 credit to my Walgreens loyalty account. When I went home and checked my Walgreens account online, I didn't see the added $10. So, the next time I went to this Walgreens, I talked to another manager, Sergio. The female manager had gone for the day. Sergio was very patient, kind, and helpful. To our surprise, he found that I actually had two accounts with Walgreens (apparently a mixed-up done by the pharmacy of another Walgreens), one with a slightly different name. The female manager had somehow credited the account that I did not know I had, and therefore did not actively use. Sergio gave me the phone number of their tech support department that could help me eliminate one of the accounts (that I will call, I promise). When I was checking out, he rushed over to make sure that I could apply my $10 credit without any problems. Kudos to Sergio! Now, as I know that I have two accounts, I am mindful to tell the cashier which one to use, until I can get one eliminated, or get them combined.

I ordered a bottle of shampoo online from CVS, pay for it, said we'd be in the next morning to pick it up which wife did. It turns out they didn't have the shampoo I ordered, so they substituted something entirely different. So I called the store, explained my situation, and was given over to "the big boss." Big boss was neither polite, helpful, or the least bit courteous. He asked if I had a receipt. I had the bag the shampoo came in but there was no receipt in the bag. I told him we picked this up from you this morning and it's the wrong product. Can you not manage your website? Do you not have it people? Do you have stock people that can interface with the IT department? "We're sorry we can't help you," Boss said. Quite honestly I wouldn't step foot in a CVS pharmacy again unless I needed a medication and Walgreens was completely out. Even then, I would do so reluctantly.

The main building is nice inside and has plenty of lobby seating before a sales meeting. Inside there is so much memorabilia about the Walgreens family and how they got their start in the pharmaceutical business. It truly is a business passes down through the generations. The office park is located next to the highway for easy access and there is plenty of free parking if you want to come inside and see all the Walgreens collected merchandise through the years.

It is open 6am - midnight and it has all you need for a quick trip from OTC meds to groceries/snacks and batteries to TP and diapers. There are cards and gift items for last-minute birthday/anniversaries and seasonal items, not to mention open on holidays. So when you need to run out, you know they've got your item here. I've read about the highly unusual staff here (I am a longtime customer) but I didn't see any of them on a recent visit. The staff is friendly and helpful (though short-staffed). I sent over 100 photos to print (photos? I know!) and though no one was at the photo counter when I arrived, I rang the bell and someone came to help me. It took a little time to find my order (not unusual I find this happens) but they did locate it and I was pleased with the results.

So instead, I checked local store availability and saw that the Wheeling location had 3 boxes in stock. I placed an order for in-store pickup, and my husband picked them up today (7/3/25). It should have been a simple and straightforward transaction, but unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 boxes turned out to be expired. One had an expiration date of 6/30/25, and the other 5/31/25. Only one box had a reasonable expiration date of 10/31/25. For comparison, the box I've been enjoying at home, that was purchased two months ago from a different retailer, does not expire until 1/31/26. Walgreens really needs to implement better quality control regarding expiration dates. Selling expired products, especially food items like chocolates, is unacceptable. And since the Wheeling store only had these 3 boxes at the time of my order, I now have to make a trip to another Walgreens to return or exchange the expired ones.

The Northbrook Walgreens leaves a lot to be desired. I think it's probably the worst location they…read morehave. This is not my usual store, but I stopped in to pick up some post surgery supplies for my mother. This is closest to her location. I was having difficulty holding a big pile of supplies when I approached the counter. They took my money, but wouldn't give me a bag until I agreed to pay extra for the bag. If this is the policy, it should be posted at the store entrance. Reusable bags should also be available at the counter for purchase. Neither is true at this store. I paid for a crappy disposable bag that they wouldn't accept back for recycling after I moved my purchases to the car. But It would have taken me 3 trips to get it all out to the car without a bag. Then they refused to give me a receipt for my purchases. The clerk said no one gets a receipt unless he calls the store manager to come over from his office, and that might take a while. I didn't have time to wait so I left. But after I saw my mother she said she wished I'd bought the larger size on one item. No chance to exchange it at the Northbrook Walgreens because I have no receipt. This is the most unfriendly Walgreens ever. We can only hope it is on the company's short list for locations to be closed.
