The pharmacy itself is fine. The pharmacy staff are consistently friendly and helpful, and they fill prescriptions quickly. There's usually ample parking and the location is convenient. The automated phone system, however, is painful to navigate. I know this isn't unique to CVS but companies need to stop putting up roadblocks to service for important, healthcare related matters. All I wanted was a couple of Mountain Dews. The cold sodas section was way in the back. Usually a store will have a cooler with these up front like literally every Walgreens. But no. Not this time. Fine. I go back get my sodas which were labeled as $2.79 or 2 for $5. Okay. I'll get 2. For $5. I go to check out and there is not a soul around at the registers or the self checkout kiosks. Okay, fine. I'll use the self checkout even though I hate those things which seem to enjoy accusing me of stealing because their AI is incompetent. I scan my sodas and they show up as $2.79, with no discount. Okay, I guess I have to hit Finish. I hit Finish. No change. I look around for a store employee and none is to be found. I walk all the way back to the soda section and take a picture of the prices so I can come back and get my discount. I do that and go to the register where now there is a clerk, who was probably only there because they had to reset the self-checkout kiosk that I left in the middle of a transaction when I went to check the price. I was told that you have to get all the way to the end of the checkout for it to show you the discount. I guess I didn't tell it how many bags I wanted so it wasn't able to show me the correct prices. Because those are related somehow. Of course, they didn't even have any bags at that kiosk. So, that's a fail right there. A bag would have been nice. This is ridiculous. Show me the price when I'm checking out. Is that so hard? Gas stations can handle it. They scan 2 sodas and the discount shows up right away. Or do you just want to have some big "You saved this much" at the end of the transaction because some marketing idiot thought that would have more of a psychological impact than simply showing me the correct price when I'm scanning my items? This experience pissed me off. I walked all the way back to the cooler and took a picture of the price tag because your stupid kiosk wasn't able to show me the price I was paying until I am all the way at the end of the transaction. Which I thought pressing "Finish" was for. I hate these self-checkout kiosks. You couldn't even have a person at the register to help if someone needed help, like I did. Instead, I wasted my time when I was in a hurry. Goodbye. You've lost me as a customer. read more

Needed a standing prescription a day early due to a vacation. Called 12 times. No way to speak to anyone, leave voicemail as directed (it hangs up,) manager transferred me to nothing. On 13 try finally got through to someone who says it will be a few hours. Broken call system and no one seems to care when you finally reach someone. read more

I am surprised at the reviews of this CVS. They have done a complete remodeling and the interior is cleaner and looks better. The staff is pretty good. Yes there are a few staff that could be more friendly or show a warmer attitude towards the customers but hey I'm there to get whatever I'm there for and out. I have actually made a good talking buddy from one of the cashiers so it's a treat to see her when we are there. Anyway, the store is on a Evanston, Skokie, headed to Wilmette border. It always has customers in and out which surprises me about the bad reviews. The Minute Clinic is there and a pharmacy. Yes the pharmacy can be a little busy and backed up with little staff and the Minute Clinic can be a bit tricky with registering and keeping up with the hours of operation depending on what practitioner is manning it. But despite it all we like this CVS and hope it is not on the chopping block of the CVS stores going to be closed in the upcoming year. There is parking and plenty of waiting areas and things to buy as you wait on your prescriptions or for your spot at the Minute Clinic. The staff is small but they are local regulars and some are friendly faces that patrons recognize. read more

I had a very bad experience today when purchased a cough medicine. The staff who is a young man very rudely yelled "LICENSE PLEASE!" when the terminal prompted for staff assistant. I mean, did he need to be this rude? Clearly this young man's parents never taught him anything about manners. The manager also clearly never gave him proper training. I simply like CVS because this corporation does not cell cigarettes. It's a big box store that does not make a profit off tobacco - unlike Walgreens. The pharmacists here are great. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I've gotten good service and tips on how to get coupons for expensive drugs. I've never used the minute clinic for anything except a flu shot. It's not the prettiest store in the block, but the people here are hard working and polite. Shop here because it's an Evanston store. read more

I just came here for Urgent Care on Central and Crawford and at 3:45 I was told to leave and I would not be seen even though the message said last patient needs to sign in by 4:15. The physician on staff was very unfriendly, unwelcoming unprofessional and lacked compassion. It's very disappointing and I will think long and hard about returning to this Urgent Care. read more

This place is little more than a kiosk in terms of service. (1) They don't honor the pricing listed on cvs.com ("we don't match competitor prices") and (2) the pharmacists have absolutely no knowledge of the over the counter products. Apparently there are three separate and non-cooperating organizations working here -- cvs.com, the retail store, and the pharmacy -- very frustrating. Feels like a bait and switch scam! Suggest going to Walgreens instead -- there are many locations nearby and the service is far better and more consistent with expectations. read more

Originally I gave this CVS a higher rating but after writing the review I had to take them down a star mainly due to this locations building/interior. Overall I really like CVS - the pharmacy will text me when my prescription is ready, I can go online and request refills or setup for automatic refills. They have an iphone app that let's you see your prescription history and choose what you want to refill. The Minute Clinic is great for getting flu shots - no appointment needed and they have the intradermal option. Also can get inexpensive school physicals and checked for ear infections, strep throat, etc. I go to this location a lot since it's close by and they take my insurance. The building is clearly an old grocery store converted into a CVS. I think they may have remodeled a bit but it still falls short compared to over newer locations. Other nearby stores like Walgreens have remodeled. It's definitely time for CVS to follow suit and invest in the building to keep shoppers happy and returning. read more

I've been to this CVS on several occasions and found the cashiers and staff to be helpful. They can be pricey, but they can also deliver great value in their weekly specials, particularly bogo vitamins and other house brand products. I will be coming again. read more

The customer service here is terrible. Everything takes about ten times longer than it should at checkout because no one seems to know what they are doing. On my last three visits I've had problems using my CVS card, CVS pay, making basic returns WITH A RECEIPT, and getting promo codes applied. The store manager adds no insights or help to the situation. Great location but not worth the hassle. Go to the new Walgreens down the street or the CVS in plaza Del Lago. This place screws up my prescription every. Single. Month. I am prescribed a medication at double the dose it's normally prescribed. My prescription says 60 pills a month, yet they only ever give me 30. Every month I have to wait for them to give me the rest of the pills. It's very disconcerting that the pharmacists aren't reading the prescription carefully enough to fill it in the correct quantity. They should not be on autopilot when dealing with medications. It could cause fatal errors. read more

This CVS is a nightmare. I go at least once a week because it is near my office and home and get so aggravated each time I go. The parking lot is a nightmare and you have to budget in 20 minutes to check out even though the place is usually pretty empty. The cashiers are extremely slow and unfriendly. Often, I have to wait for a cashier to even show up. It amazes me that they are still in business. read more

This CVS pharmacy on Central St. in Evanston is a workflow nightmare. 5 people behind the counter, scattered all over the place, distracted and unable to finish one customer at a time. I went in today with a raging flu to pick up meds. The CVS system nationwide was down, but I decided to wait. It went back up quickly, and I was told that in 10 minutes my Rx would be ready and they would page me. Freezing, sick and about to fall over I sat in a chair right next to the counter. Never got called. 30 minutes later, I went to the counter to ask. After waiting patiently, shivering, behind someone trying to straighten up CVS' error on her generic lipitor prescription, it was finally my turn. So what happens? The tech asks me to wait so a healthy, pushy mom who hadn't even been in line could go ahead of me. I told the tech I had been waiting and had a raving flu, but no empathy, she took the pushy mom. Then the tech took my name to get the Rx. Finally . . well, not quite. She turns to talk to the pharmacist about a different customer and gets distracted. Really? There was a 2nd tech at the register, the one helping the lipitor lady, and I asked her to help me. She said I had to wait for the other tech because she started. The other tech came back and asked me my name again. Really? So now let's get back to the Lipitor customer. She called early that morning for an Rx for 90 capsules. The tech brought back 30 and didn't have an answer as to why 30 and not 90. The lady persisted, so the tech starts scrambling, running around pulling out reports, looking for the exception report, trying to manually match things up . . . .after 10 or so minutes of this the Pharmacist jumped in and said the the 90 pills were actually approved. In the spirit of being helpful, I suggest that they have an expert from Corporate come in and observe their workflow, 5S the place, it's a mess back there, and recommend process design. For example, if you tell a customer you are going to call them when the RX is ready, what process can they put in place to make sure this happens? If you are helping one customer, finish the order. I can't wait until the new CVS at Plaza Del Lago opens. There's hope that they will have a more efficient and customer-focused process. I'm stuck with CVS because of my employer's health plan. sigh. read more

I have been going to this CVS on central in Evanston for many years. I have always received great service but that changed earlier this year. They seemed to have hired a new manager (older bald gentleman) who does not view customer service the same way the other manager does (tall man with dark hair). Whenever I have a question about a product, this new manager will not go out of his way to check on it but will send someone else to do it. I was at the store Saturday morning Nov9. They had a section near the cashiers featuring gift wrap, some cosmetics and a free bag of makeup with a sign that said it was "free bag - details in circular". I asked the cashier what the details were and she looked at the circular and couldn't find anything about it. She told me to ask the manager. I then approached the manager who was with another cashier (a young man). The manager did not say anything so the cashier (young man) went to check on the display and he also could not find details on the offer. He said it usually requires a 30$ beauty purchase so I asked him which brand I needed to purchase. He said he didn't know and the only way to find out is if I brought 30$ worth of beauty products and they can ring it up to see if that works. He also said there is no guarantee that I need 30$ worth of products. It could be more. Then he went back to his cashier station. The manager also could not help me. This is the type of service I have received lately. If they don't know the answer, they just drop it. One of the cashiers (older woman, dark hair) is also not very helpful and very curt with her customers whenever you ask her a question. I only gave it 2 stars because I have always received great service from the Pharmacy staff, the other manager and other cashiers. read more

I absolutely hate this CVS. I went here to pick up some prescription and all 5 of the pharmacist/ pharm tech did not know what the med was. The staff here is so unhelpful and has no knowledge of anything. Why and how this place is still open is beyond me. They need new management and new employees throughout the whole store. And why is the parking lot so full when its a ghost town inside?? Avoid! There are better CVS and Walgreens within a 5 min drive from here. read more

Without thinking about it, I would rate any CVS as 3 stars. Average. After all what is there to a chain pharmacy? But I have thought about it and conclude that this particular pharmacy is, unfortunately, well below average. Here's why. One day, my wife pointed out that the intersection of Central and Crawford looks awful and that it brings down the neighborhood. I hadn't thought about it, but started to and quickly realized that she was absolutely right. We talked about it and narrowed the problem down to two things: The CVS and Hot Dog Island (but I will only focus on the CVS here, for obvious reasons).. The CVS building, architecturally, is meh. Boring, yet sticking out like a sore thumb. Like a house without landscaping. It's "the yard" that's the problem. i.e. the parking lot. It makes this property an eyesore. It is the vast expanse of asphalt, lacking any hardscape, plantings or trees to soften the assault on the aesthetic sensibilities of neighbors and anyone passing, that is the problem. Yes there are a few plants in the northwest corner, but 90% of it lacks anything but cars and light posts. Even aesthetically unappealing buildings can be made presentable, if not downright beautiful. But nothing has been done to improve the CVS property since they took it over. There really is no excuse for this, other than "they don't care." They are here to make money and nothing more. This underscores the fact they are bad neighbors. It's like some people who don't maintain their home, have weeds in the grass, etc. They are bad neighbors. In contrast, I was surprised when the Walgreens was erected, just a block away, because it actually improved that corner. I'm sure they didn't do this instinctively and altruistically. They don't care either and left to their own devices would have done things differently (costing them less), but I'm certain that they did this in response to pressure from neighbors and the village administration. Evidently such pressure was missing when CVS decided to open at this location. Too bad and shame on us. The result is that we're left living with an eyesore. But CVS can do something to above this and to distinguish themselves as good neighbors. A continuous row of bushes and trees between the sidewalk and parking lot would do the trick. The row of trees defining the eastern edge of the property is nice, but it's the southern edge that's the problem. They need eliminate the southern strip of parking places and replace it with landscaping. Certainly, the loss of parking spaces won't be a problem; the lot is never filled.This one change would transform the property! Envision a park-like space where customers might find themselves pausing at a bench to enjoy the surroundings. I anticipate that CVS will begin whining that the maintenance that landscaping requires is costly. But the rest of us do our part. Our properties are landscaped and each of us property owners bears that burden and expense of maintenance without whining. That's because we have pride in our properties and our neighborhood. CVS needs to recognize that they are a neighbor. I plan to address this with the new alderman. Perhaps he can work with CVS to improve their property and our neighborhood. We have put up with the eyesore for too long. My wife and I are customers, but if CVS doesn't become a good neighbor we'll move our loyalty to Walgreens and encourage other neighbors to do the same. read more

Why do you close the minute clinic earlier than your posted hours? I arrive about 30 minutes prior to posted closing time and the technician finishes with her last patient ahead of me 15 minutes before posted closing time. I have an ear ache, rather strait forward and not something that should wait until tomorrow to deal with. She cleans her office and says no more patients because she must be clocked out by 7:30pm (the posted closing time). Really? I doubt my diagnosis would have taken over 15 minutes. Shame on CVS management for not leaving more flexibility in the system. I understand that there is a time you need to stop accepting new patients - but that time is not 15 minutes prior to your posted open for business sign. It's about expectation management - if you want your worker out by 7:30pm, then change your closing time to 7:00pm. read more

Check out is disorganized. The store refuses to tell customers where to line up in the check out area, so sometimes there is one line and sometimes there are multiple lines. Customers should not have to debate who is next. The store should establish order. read more

This is the worse pharmacy I have ever had to deal with. They often do not have my medication in stock. n several occasions they have told me that they were ordering it, so I wait until the date they say it will come in only to find out that they never bothered to even order it. I'm disabled and its hard to get around, so to have to run around to different pharmacies at the last minute is very difficult, I would not recomend this location to my worse enemy. read more

You would like to give 0 stars, if I could. The worst pharmacy ever - a bunch of lazy idiots! I have never had problems filling prescriptions with Dominicks (RIP). I have filled several prescriptions with this CVS and my son and myself with problems each time. First, when my doctor from the Northshore Group fills the prescription, they just ignore it, because they need it called in or faxed in. Northshore uses their standard Epic system for filling prescription and it's not a problem with other pharmacies. Not CVS, of course. They cannot just figure it out with what seems to be the biggest partner like Northshore how to fill prescriptions to their liking. Get you butts off that chair and call the doctor! Another thing, you ALWAYS have to wait in line for more than 10 minutes even if there is only one person in front of you and other pharmacists around! Always! They have lost several customers forever (I know other people, who are extremely PO'd at CVS). Transferring everything to Jewel. read more
