Ugh. Worst EVER! They upgraded the store front but the pharmacy is the worst! I just came in to get a prescription. The computer is down and I'm told I have to wait 20 min for it to reset before they can generate a sale. So I go into the main store to buy some non prescription items and this awful line forms. And this one mean, grumpy, angry, unprofessional pharmacist is being a JERK about the whole situation! In the past this guy has mansplained me to death about my own child's medications and has never once smiled. He hates his job and wants to drag everyone else down with his misery. ZERO stars. I wish that was an option. I blame myself for continuing to go here, but today I had enough. Every time I go there, the person at the pickup counter always has some sort of issue with the insurance. He will tell you to wait for further assistance at the drop off counter which is boarded up. You have to step on your tip toes to get someone's attention. No one asks if you need help. They continue to look down and pretend you don't exist until you say something. When you get their attention, they just stare at you like a deer in headlights. Now you ask them the same question as you did at the drop off and they may direct you to the next counter: consultation, which is also boarded up. There is a small chance they may answer your question. If you're lucky, your rx will get filled. Then they direct you back to the drop off line to pay. Also, don't try to call. It's impossible to get through. I tried to have my Rx transferred to Duane Reade because they ran out of albuterol!!!! Both the pharmacist and I called and stayed on hold for 15 mins. During this time, I walked from Duane reade to cvs because I knew it would be faster to take the 12 minute walk. While I was waiting on line at CVS (again), I asked them if they pick up the phone and they said they were trying to but were understaffed. 10 seconds later, someone answered my call. I will confine this review to this CVS store's prescription drug service. I've been using CVS for my prescription drug fulfillment for many years and frankly the service is bad. The people have all been very courteous and whenever the store does not have the drug prescribed (it happens) they obtain it promptly with 24 hours. The basic problem here is that the store now does a land-office business in prescription drugs in substantial measure because of the diminution in competing, mostly independent, pharmacies in recent years. Not too long ago within a 4 block radius of my home, there were in addition to CVS, 4 independent pharmacies-now there is one. And the result is this CVS pharmacy is GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED. It's a 24 hour store and they desperately need more pharmacists and more pharmacist technicians/staff. At all hours until perhaps 10 p.m., there are lines and during daylight, long lines. The understaffing is so bad that if you telephone them with an issue requiring you to speak to a live human being, 80% of the time you simply will not get put through. I've called as late as midnight and sometimes not gotten anyone to pick up. I should add that since Covid they eliminated the few chairs for customers who wished to wait if they needed to pick up their prescription promptly and, far more important to me, for customers like myself who, being a senior citizen, has a medical problem making prolonged standing on their long lines very painful or even impossible. Upon my complaint the manager said they were compelled to do this by corporate home office and the latter upon my contacting them said they'd remedy the situation but did nothing. I now have to ask for a chair to be brought or demand the prescription to be IMMEDIATELY filled. With the abatement of Covid infectiousness and concomitant easing of some restrictions, they could certainly put back the 2 or 3 chairs--but sadly I doubt they will. I may seriously look for another pharmacy. read more

Do yourself the biggest favor in the world and don't get your prescriptions here. Needed medicine for an ear infection and they were out of it. After 45 minutes they said another cvs would have it for me and gave me a slip to hand to them. Went to the other cvs and they had not heard from the store on 86th nor did they have the prescription. People in the line said they were dealing with the same issues. Called the doctor and had them send the prescription to Duane Reade. Picked it up from them no problems. read more

I was told I could not turn off auto-refill requests made by the pharmacy to my healthcare providers. False. I was told the only remedy was to turn off those pesky text notifications. False. I was told that I wasn't in the system. False. I was told that my insurance rejected a monthly Rx that I've had for 5 years. False. I was told the pharmacist would "override the insurance company" to fix it. Also false because it was covered in the first place. I was told - after 20 mins trying to fix it at the consult window - that our home address was FINALLY updated in the system for all family members. False again. Also, if you value your privacy - forget it. They ask you for every piece of info for every script & everyone speaks so loudly yelling out patient names, phone#s, addresses, medication names, DOBs. We've given them multiple tries to get things straight but the bottom line is that they're either understaffed & overwhelmed, dishonest & incompetent. I literally stood and watched a manager deny a pregnant woman the use of the restroom stating that "there's merchandise in there". What!? That is completely inhumane. Who denies a pregnant woman access to a restroom? Not only that, the people working at the pharmacy are super rude! Most CVS get 3 stars, simply because they are what they are - moderately overpriced convenience stores. The pharmacy here is hit or miss, when there is no one waiting they are prompt and will fill your Rx on spot. However, if there are a lot of people waiting, forget about it - might as well come back at 3am cause you would probably be that long anyways. The normal manager (I sadly don't know his name) makes this store though. He always is incredibly helpful, suggests coupons you might not have even known about, and really just makes it a nice experience. He definitely saved this CVS from 3 stars and bumped it up to 4! read more

I don't usually review chains. I am a loyal CVS customer because of their sales and coupons. I understand that the service you get at these places is wildly irregular and I don't really expect a lot. Just keep the coupons coming and the shelves stocked. Well, this CVS staff at Amsterdam and 86 street deserves recognition. I went to this CVS to print out some pictures in the photo department. I had some issues with the print and had to redo, which gave me a lot of time to observe the staff and customer interactions. It was as though I stepped into another time. There were a lot of regular customers, the kind of old school New Yorkers who I remember from my childhood days. The types of people who have been here for generations and who most unfortunately-- are being forced out of town by impossibly high rents and other factors. In other words, many of the customers were in their 70s and 80s and some had some issues with the self checkout. Every sales associate was on top of their game, but one person really stood out. Mike! Mike! Hi Mike! I heard more than one customer call out to him. This "Mike" --I assume a manager of some kind-- knew all of the regular customer's names. He calmed down a frustrated customer who had waited on a longer than desirable line on a holiday weekend by making conversation about her newly painted nails. He helped her with the self-checkout station and then held the door open for her as she wheels herself out the door. As I left, I felt compelled to tell him that he had a wonderful way with his customers. Mike should give workshops on how to treat people. read more

Words cannot begin to express how poorly staffed and managed this pharmacy is. My experience with this pharmacy is among the top WORST customer service experiences I have ever had in life. The inefficiency; disorganization; lack of accountability; and just general uncaring attitude of the staff members here is infuriating. They don't seem to understand that they are handling people's MEDICATIONS - something very, very important. My medication delivery has been delayed 5 days and they don't seem to care. Every day I call, the latest person I speak to just blames it on a different staff member and says there is nothing they can do (?!!). They lost my original medication delivery that was supposed to have been mailed out, and they can't tell me where it went. There should be a law against that. I had to add my voices to the litany of terrible reviews here to say yes, the reviews are true--if you can avoid it, do yourself a favor and DON'T USE THIS PHARMACY. The cvs at 86 and Amsterdam is horrible. I was 6th on line to pick up a prescription and not a single person had a nice word to say about the pharmacy. These were regular long term customers who really, like me, had no choice because their insurance carrier specified they had to use CVS. This is a place that regularly calls to say a prescription is ready for pick up when it is not; that shorts the number of tablets in an order, charges for the full amount, and has to be chased for literally 6 months to make up the shortage; that swears medication was delivered when it was not; that consistently puts child proof caps on bottles for a 77 and 82 year old in spite of more than a month of calls to the dispute line, 800.746.7287, and attempts to speak to the pharmacy manager who never takes calls and is always "unavailable" when I am in the store. Other pharmacies have a cap that turns over from child proof to screw on - not this racket. Cvs is unique in it's commitment to providing no customer service and support under any circumstance. This is what happens when Ins co's can specify where you must get your prescriptions filled. CVS works for the Ins co with complete disregard for the consumer/patient. I frequent this CVS and it's alright. They have self checkout so that determines how quickly you're in and out of this place. They also have one cashier line, sometimes two people working at a time depending on when you go in. They have decent sales you just need to go at the right time. I prefer coming here for grocery items believe it or not because they're usually more affordable that the markets in the area. For example, the other day I came here for cheerios and they were $2 compared to the market down the street for almost $5 for the same size box. They have some cold food items like wraps and fruit in the cooler and some speciality drinks. They sell Halotop ice cream and other varieties. It's hit or miss here. For example, the other day it was pouring so I ran in here for an umbrella and the cheapest one they had was pushing $30. I'd rather have wet hair than drop $30 on a cheap umbrella. Their greeting card section isn't great, came in the other day for a card and they were well out of any decent ones for that specific celebration. The fact that it's 24 hours is a huge plus and for me it's a convenient location. read more

I almost think that people got paid to write bad reviews here. Or maybe these are the one or two people that had a bad experience. I personally did not. It can get crowded in the pharmacy, but if you don't like that, just do what I do: Come there late at night and your problem is solved. Here is my breakdown for my higher rating: 1) 24/7 pharmacy on my block? That is awesome. Star 1: Accessibility & availability. 2) Knowledgeable staff that is happy to give me advice and explain things? That's another star, for knowledge. 3) People messing up my medications? I read about this in another review. I have never had this problem. Another star, for professionalism. 4) The pharmacy is overall able to fulfill my needs as a client and I keep dropping off my prescriptions so clearly this is not a bad place to go, or else I wouldn't keep coming back to it, right? This pharmacy is typical in the sense that it does get busy, there can be a wait for the pharmacy, some of the cashiers are lackluster... but overall this is a great spot to have in the neighborhood. The pharmacy is open 24 hours, they have almost anything basic you might need, it is very clean and overall the staff is helpful and quick. I would rate the overall store three stars... but HAD to add an extra star for the fact they sell a variety of K-cups (coffee cups for a Keurig machine!). It is difficult to find good K-cups in the area and their selection was great and unexpected!! Yay! read more

Zero stars.: 1. Prescriptions not processed 5 days after they're called in (this happened multiple times). Alternatively, 2. Refill is processed, as per their system, but the bag with the meds can't be found anywhere, leading to a chaotic 20 minute search ( umm, they're on a shelf, alphabetized by last name). Or, 3. Medicine isn't even in stock days later, despite pharmacy sending a text notifying me that order is ready. The second or third time this happens, Jin, the pharmacist, blames the errors on new staff and says I should call first to confirm the meds are in stock etc (takes no responsibility for the fact that I was notified they were days ago , and now have to skip dosages). Today; I get notification they're ready. I take her advice and call. Surprise, they're still not processed, but I'm call told they'll definitely be ready by four. They're not as of 5:30, and I end up choosing between missing my train or two days' dosage. The pharmacist . again takes no accountability - says it's my fault for believing the pharmacy staff when I called, rather than asking for her directly. So: a pharmacist running a chaotic operation, who cannot train her staff, throws them under the bus for errors. And now, she expects clients to not only act as her second line of defense in calling to confirm that the ready notification they received was in fact accurate, but she expects us to act as her third line of defense in evaluating whether the person who answers the phone to give that confirmation can in fact commit the pharmacy. How many hoops should I jump through to compensate for their poor processes? She was extremely unpleasant and not once did she apologize for what happened (the young girls working for her did, and were trying their best - when one of the new ones asked the pharmacist for help up front, she completely ignored her). read more

I have the cruel fate of needing to go to this CVS pharmacy every few months. Each visit is worse than the last. Prescriptions take forever to fill, the line is always out the door, and the staff and pharmacy disguise inane CVS policies as "required under state law" - a lie. There are plenty of Duane Reades nearby, or better CVSs. If you can't avoid going to this one, I empathize and suggest kicking yourself in the shin a few times beforehand to dull the unpleasantness. read more

Caveat: this review is not for the pharmacy but everything else - photo and general store. There are so many drugstores in this neighborhood, with Duane Reade on practically every block, but I prefer to go shopping at this CVS because everyone who works there is so darn nice! Out of a weekly special? No problem - they'll give you a raincheck or even offer a substitute brand/size. Photo didn't print the way you like it? They'll reprint it with a smile. Yes, sometimes it can get busy, but the line is more manageable than at RiteAid and they have lots of self-checkouts (and someone nearby to help when there is inevitably an error). I have never felt compelled to write a review for something basic like a drugstore, but this CVS truly stands out from all the other CVS and drugstores in the city for its consistent excellent customer service and everyone who works there deserves to be recognized. read more

I have used this pharmacy for many years . I have seven regular RXs that I fill. Of late , maybe since last summer, I have found the service less than satisfactory. The cashiers are very nice, but when I have to deal with a person at the side windows( I guess they are the pharmacists) , I find them impatient bordering on lack of courtesy. I actually politely called one person out pointing out that they have many seniors and they need to listen and respond in a courteous way. I am looking to changing pharmacies since I pay a fare to come to this one . read more

Several years ago I stopped using the pharmacy at this store because: 1. there were long lines waiting to pick up a prescription and 2. their deliveries were unreliable and infrequent (they do not deliver on weekends and on weekdays do not deliver after 2:00 pm). Last week, my physician's office inadvertently sent a prescription order to CVS rather than the independent pharmacy I switched to four years ago. I have requested delivery three times in the past week, no delivery was made and when queried about why the prescription still was not delivered yesterday, the pharmacy assistant responded that they would try to deliver after the weekend (i.e., three days later). I suggest using Broadway Chemists, one block away, on Broadway between 85th and 86th for great service and prompt delivery. DO NOT USE THE CVS PHARMACY. read more

Be told the prescription renewal was not received from the doctor. 4. Be told to go to the consultation window to find out what happened. 4. Wait in a short line that moves like a snail. 5. Get to window and be told, "drop offs are over there (pointing to another window)." 6. Tell them you were told to go to the consultation window. 7. Watch the person call over the pharmacist who is busy. 8. Watch pharmacist finish what he's doing (rightfully). 9. Tell pharmacist that a prescription was sent in but it's not in the system. 10. Be ignored by the pharmacist who turns to the person who called him over to yell at her for calling him over for this reason. 11. Walk out, empty handed with memories of all the other times this same kind of stuff happens at this awful excuse for a pharmacy. read more

I've given them a few chances but they constantly are losing my prescriptions in their system or I'm notified my prescription is ready and when I go to the counter, they end up taking 20 - 30 minutes to find my prescriptions! This review may contain a negative bias based on the fact that I've been on my phone on hold for 40 minutes or the fact that I've been to this CVS pharmacy seven times in four days, never once leaving with my life-saving insulin diabetes medication. It may be because when I call them and finally get through, after almost hour long holds, I am told to come in and wait on a forty-five-minute line and watch someone (who had to get a degree for this?) spend fifteen minutes typing things into a computer to tell me the medicine that I called about on the phone that time when I finally got through (and on the website says is finally ready for pick-up) is out of stock, and somehow, I have made a grave error in thinking otherwise. Gorbachev's USSR was a market metropolis teeming with options reminiscent of 2008 U.S.A. before the Great Recession compared to this CVS, whose staff appears blissfully able to sleep at night despite causing physical (not kidding) and psychological (25% kidding) pain apathetically inflicted on their customers by: a) providing the wrong medication b) failing to inform the customer their medication is not in stock c) failing to enter correct insurance information and asking 3 of the 7 times you go d) having a customer leave without a medicine that keeps them alive This pharmacy is the very embodiment of failed American health policies that make sick people sicker and poor people poorer. All in all, I'm left wondering if there's an apothecary to bleed me or a druidic priestess to ground some herbs with a mortar and pestle anywhere near the area. The management at this store sucks. The line scheme changes daily, the automated machines are always broken so only the credit card ones work, the cashiers are surly and the layout is ridiculous. Consistently understaffed, misfiling prescriptions under the wrong name, NEVER check their voicemail for prescriptions that are called in, and never have prescriptions ready even remotely close to on time. Great experience here. Talking over the phone with the pharmacy was confusing but I came in and went to the consultation window. I needed to get a prescription filled and it was my first time here and I lost my insurance card (AND I was going on extended vacay later that day, so I was stressed). The pharmacist there was able to do some magic for my scripts with the info I'd given her from my insurance. Thought I'd be difficult and time consuming but it was quick, easy, and Kizzy was so friendly. CVS is my new pharmacy! read more

While visiting a dear old friend on the upper West side i decided to visit the area CVS before heading back home and grab a few goods . Not a bad store as its nicely stocked , friendly helpful crew and it's not crowded . While going AISLE to AISLE a grabbing a few items along my journey i NOTICE the pharmacy area is crowded as folks are trying to get a flu shot and personally I wouldn't wait but to each his or her own . Ok I got my FILLED basket and make my way to the self service CHECKOUT which has no customers as well as the regular line and darn it i don't have my credit or debit card but I do have a few dead presidents in my wallet and I didn't wait long . LISTEN I don't mind shelling out a nickel for a paper bag to put my goodies in but come on my Nigerian princess please double the bag so I can avoid my bag ripping apart and my goodies flying all over Columbus ave on a Friday evening We are living in a strange period folks with covid19 and we all gotta be safe but please CVS get them heavy duty bags that walgreens / Duane reade/rite aid CARRY . read more
