The one guy pharmacist is the only reason they are getting two stars. Everyone else here is NASTY and RUDE and unhelpful. Don't even try to call them to ask if you can take over the counter meds with your prescriptions... the female pharmacist with the attitude will give you a " yeah i guess so" ....After being on hold for 30 minuets... I don't want someone to guess if I can take Benadryl without dying... I GUESS. Also, calling me 5 times a day to see when I will pick my script up... are you fucking kidding me?! Pharmacy is chronically understaffed. Everyone there is seems fine, but there aren't enough staff to handle normal customer flow. The single pharmacist on duty doesn't have time to give vaccines on top of filling everyone's prescriptions, so there are always long long wait times. I just waited 35 minutes for a flu shot despite having had an appointment and with only one other person waiting for the same. Looks like Walgreens is maximizing their corporate profits by intentional understaffing. I also overheard an elderly woman being told her prescription was not available, even though she had received two automated calls telling her it was ready for pick up. read more

On my third visit in two days for the same prescription, I am adding my voice to the chorus. This pharmacy is deplorable. I saw the low rating but I thought it was just disgruntled people and it was convenient to where I would be at the time I needed to pick up. So I picked it as my pharmacy during my equally frustrating visit to City MD on 88th Street. First visit. Only one prescription is ready, coincidentally it's the medication I could have just gotten over the counter. The two inhalers aren't ready now but will be ready at 3pm (2 hrs). No one is convincing me those inhalers weren't in the building but okay fine. Go home and rest (remember people typically get medication because they are sick!!!). Come back and told by rude clerk that neither is ready and I'll just have to come back tomorrow. I make a fuss. He says fine talk to pharmacist. Oh turns out the one inhaler was ready the entire time, the second one I would have to pay full price for or call the doctor for a "pre authorization" (the pre authorization is technically insurance company's fault, but not telling me I needed that during my first visit so it could be handled is their fault). Call before the third visit. On hold 30 minutes, finally starts to ring through. Rings and rings. No one answers. Then it disconnects me. I call back. The guy answers and is super duper rude and keeps cutting me off when I'm trying to explain what's happening with an attitude making the conversation actually take longer than it would have if he wasn't a super dick from outer-space. Please believe the hype and never ever come here. read more

This pharmacy doesn't care about patient care and their need for the medication prescribed to them. Rather, they care about filling a prescription as slowly or not at all. They all seem to be working in spite of something there, and are counter productive to a job they're being paid to do. Do not go to Duane Reade for vax shots - they do not honor the appointment times! (2864 Broadway location) Waited OVER an hour past my appointment time. People at register kept saying it's really up to the pharmacist and when she's ready. Why are there appointments if it's up to the pharmacist?!?!?! Elder people were waiting over an hour and ended up leaving unvaccinated- awful. Pharmacist finally came out and saw me first since I decided to stick around. The room where the shots are conducted is completely a mess. Didn't feel sanitary. She seemed like a mess too. I didn't trust her and checked the vial to make sure I was receiving the correct vaccine. Then she jabs my arm and blood started gushing down my arm and on the floor. She had 0 supplies ready to remediate the situation. She got a container of wipes and then told ME to open it. It was empty... Then she handed me a bag of cotton balls, like literally cotton balls I'd use to wipe makeup off my face - not gauze. A bag of cotton balls where multiple people's hands were probably in. I take one out and attempt to wipe my arm with...cotton balls. She couldn't find the band aids while I was trying to wipe everything down. How does she not have band aids ready?!?! It's like she never gave someone a shot before! She finally got the band aid and I bolted. Screw the 15 min waiting period post-shot - no one would even have time to see me if I felt sick afterwards! Do not waste your time here!! I need to figure out who to complain to. But probably won't matter.... read more

If I could give them fewer stars, I would. Since using this pharmacy, I have had the worst experiences I ever had living in NY for 40 years. I have medication that must be renewed every month, or I can go into withdrawal. Every month there is an issue with this pharmacy and this drug. Half the time, they can't find my medication. Recently, the just flippantly sent me an email that the drug was out of stock--the same email that they sent me a month ago. Why can't they get the drug in stock. Duane Reade only a few blocks down Broadway has it. If you can possibly go to another pharmacy, I urge you to do so to save yourself time and aggravation. The pharmacy never answers its phone, and the whole place is in need of a drastic renovation. This is the WORST pharmacy in the city!!!! Pharmacist is overwhelmed and on occasion rude. Cashiers are always rude and very slow. Always LONG lines and LONG wait times. They never pick up the phone. The only reason that we use this pharmacy is because it is the closet one to where we live. If we could we would give it ZERO stars and would never recommend it. TERRIBLY managed. Not a place to go if you're in a hurry. Very slow untrained staff. They are friendly and mean well I assume it's poor management. Months later long long wait one man serving customers 10 people in front of me! May 2020 they are so rude to people, an old man in front of me with a strong Mexican accent is struggling to communicate with a young woman serving him, she has a strong Russian accent, I can hardly understand her, she seems to have a big vocabulary but is obviously very inpatient, irritated and angry with him resulting in being very rude to him. read more

I was satisfied with the store & pharmacy when both were open 24 hours, but those days are over. The pharmacy hours have been cut way back, and there are entire weekends when the pharmacy is "temporarily closed." In addition, the store itself (described as being open "24 hours") is closed so often after 11 pm or midnight that I've stopped trying to shop there at that time of day. I walked in there trying to look for some batteries. I had some trouble locating where they were, but when I finally found the section I could find the one I was looking for. I then began my search for an employee who could possibly help me look for an alternative, or another section they may be in. After 5 minutes of walking up and down aisles, I gave up. It shouldn't be this difficult to find someone for a simple question, and there was no way I was waiting in the ridiculously long line to ask a simple question. This store really does not have that much stuff, and I was really expecting more seeing as it is a relatively big store. There is always a wait for the cashier, however, all of the workers I have encountered have been pretty nice. I had an extremely negative experience at this location today. I had come to the pharmacy earlier this week for a walk in flu vaccine, and was told to make an online appointment instead. I did this, and when I arrived for my flu vaccine today, the pharmacy was shuttered and closed up. The pharmacy employee was very rude in telling me that the pharmacy was closed and they could not help me and I had to go elsewhere, despite the fact that I had received no communication about the cancellation or closure and had scheduled my work for the day around traveling to the appointment. Very poor customer service & management, customers should be informed of cancellation ahead of time to account for the fact that people may be taking off employment for an appointment or otherwise. read more

I was on hold for the pharmacy for 45 minutes today. This is an improvement from the hour and 33 minutes when I called last week. The pharmacy was closed Saturday and Sunday without any notice. Long lines, uncaring staff, prescriptions take many hours to be completed even when promised "shortly" or "working on it now". On the w/e I was told to "go to another Duane Reade and they should be able to do it for me". Assigned this pharmacy by insurance company or trust me I wouldn't ever go there. read more

The pharmacy here is despicable. They are truly (multiple employees) the most unpleasant and miserable people I've come across in a customer service arena. First, when I went to pick up my prescription, they told me I didn't have one there. I showed the voicemail on my phone to prove I did. Then, after telling me it would take 20 mins to fill that prescription, they (3 days later!!!) tell me actually they don't carry the medication and won't until September. Finally, after consulting my doctor, I call to ask for my prescription to be transferred to another pharmacy. The employee I spoke to was incredibly rude. He told me "they probably won't have it either" before I even gave him the name of the new pharmacy. I kindly replied that I had already called and they assured me they DO have it. IT COSTS $0 TO BE KIND! (FYI my medication is vital to my wellbeing, as many are, and I can't be going multiple days without taking it.) read more

There seems to be real problems at the store at 111th and Broadway. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the staff is kind but terribly overworked - they simply don't have enough employees and i think their pay scales are low. Last year during the height of the pandemic the store functioned well, but this year it has been a disaster. The bin for disposing of old prescription bottles has been out of order for over 2 weeks. When ;one enters the store, there are boxes everywhere - they simply don't have enough employees to stock the shelves. If this does not improve, I am going to look for another pharmacy. It was a lot better when it was simply Duane Reade. Walgreens has been a disaster! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Literally the WORST pharmacy ever. I received a text to refill my prescription (a very important prescription) to which I responded yes to. Reply back was that the prescription would be filled by 10a the next morning. I show up at 10a the next morning and they tell me it won't be ready until 11a. I have an appointment I have to go to so I return the next day. After waiting in line for eternity they don't have any record of my refill (??) So it isn't ready. They agree to work on it right away. I wait another 20 minutes and they go to check me out and nonchalantly mention that they can only fill 5 OUT OF 90 tablets. And it just continues yes to deteriorate from there. Like to say this was the first time but it's not, something is always messed up, lines are horrific. Never going there again. read more

Ain't that odd for a 24-hour pharmacy? Still I kept coming. I never once experienced rudeness outright. But you could see it, the arrogance in the eyes of usually the higher techs/senior clerks. As for pharmacists, you could smell the condescension from away were you to dare have an issue of meds. Disdain, condescension, but I put up with it. Years. There have always been one, no more than 2 at a time, who treated me as customer, they service reps. Ordinary relations. Nothing outstanding. But in this atmosphere, it felt like superior, excellent service. Yes, the ordinary came to feel like excellent service up in here. Why would I tolerate Duane Reade for years and endure the less than mediocre? What was it that I got from this relationship that kept me coming back more of shit? Let me go look. Always overcrowded, never polite, rarely prepared even if you've called 8 times, sometimes inept, the staff at this location also occasionally rejects your normal request (as they did mine), leaving you without your medicine for days. One star only because I can't give zero. If you're looking for poor pharmacy service and your prescription to be messed up 9 times out of 10 then this is the Duane Reade for you. There's only one guy who works there that doesn't suck, I think his name is Randall but that could be wrong. The pharmacy is frequently under staffed so lines stretch the entire length of the store, combine that with them messing up people's prescriptions and you have like a 25 to 30 minute wait. When you finally reach the register, they'll loudly rattle off the names of all of your medications (I'm pretty sure the staff there thinks HIPAA is just the female version of a hippo), so don't worry about all the customers in the store finding out you're picking up anti psychotics and medication for your incontinence, you can know for sure that they will. As for the upper floor, they're very stingy with taking bottles and cans back so don't even bother. On the bright side they sell pain killers to get rid of the headache you get from dealing with the pharmacy staff. I eventually got sick of them and ended up transferring my prescriptions to Broadway Chemists (on 86th, they deliver to the neighborhood for free!) even though they're further away, because the service, they are so much better. Even the staff at Broadway Chemists had trouble with this DR when switching my prescriptions and ended up just calling my Dr for new ones instead. If you do have to use this pharmacy out of necessity and desperation (the only reason I'd ever go back) check that you got the correct medication and all of your medications before you leave the store as reaching them by phone is impossible, and like I said, they will almost always mess something up. Also don't attempt delivery. They'll tell you your prescriptions are all set to be delivered. You'll call and confirm and they'll reassure you that they will be delivered. A few days will go by, you'll get concerned and call again and then be told your credit card isn't on file so they couldn't deliver. You'll ask why nobody called to tell you that and why the three people you talked to said you were all set and they'll just mumble something about their coworkers sucking and you'll once again find yourself waiting in their endless pharmacy line. TL;DR if you value your time or sanity, GET YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS SOME WHERE ELSE!!!! read more

Duane Reade Pharmacy at Broadway and 111th St, NYC 10025 - There's a reason I signed up for a mail drugstore a few months ago! However, I had to get an Rx asap and asked my dr to call it into Duane Reade late yesterday and have it delivered (because mail orders take a few days and I'm having difficulty walking from a recent accident). This AM I called my local store to make sure it was being delivered and was ON HOLD fora HALF AN HOUR - then DISCONNECTED!! I called back to get the manager of the store, who told me my credit card on file has expired - but she can't take any new card info on the phone. So WHY didn't the pharmacy pick up and tell me this?" - "They're busy and we' re under-staffed." The USUAL! So no one had the courtesy to pick up the phone and say you have to come in - even though I'm having a difficult time walking from a recent accident! This has to be the dumbest pharmacy I have ever come across! It's pharmacy staff put you on hold for interminably long times- and then HSNG UP before you can speak to anyone - should be banned from their Medicare contract! The store would be better run by a 6 year old! AVOID IT! read more

This is a pretty horrible Duane Reade. Granted, they are all horrible, but still. The prices are nuts. The staff makes me feel like they're having the worst day ever with their attitude. And the pharmacy - don't even get me started. Typical NYC - minimum 2 hour wait for your Rx to be filled (man, do I miss living in MI when it was a 15 minute wait!), but they are just so, extremely unhelpful when trying to ask about different over the counter drugs. There's really nothing too spectacular or terrible about this Duane Reade. It has most of what you're looking for, it's well stocked, there's the usual Chase ATM, and the lines move at a fairly quick pace. Although I've never had a problem here, I am a little sad that this location has not yet been renovated to the new DR - you know, the one with the 'fresh' fruits and the Delish line of food. Okay, yes, drug stores are bad in NYC. They're crowded, understaffed, overpriced and generally unpleasant. But I like this one. It's on my commute to work and while it's a busy location, and there are often annoying college kids, or moronic and self absorbed tourists picking something up before snapping pics (but never eating) at Tom's Diner, the staff at this Duane Reade are great. They're friendly, in a real, New Yorker sort of way. The kindness of the staff has often made my morning when I stop in to grab a beverage on my way to work, or need an umbrella because it's pouring out and the weather app is a liar. They also have a somewhat decent beer collection - I mean, I love Westside Market, but c'mon WM, I'm not going to pay $8 for a single Stella bottle. So, if you're hating on this drugstore, please understand, all of them suck, but this one has nice people that work in it. Remember, your problem is really with tourists, so do the right thing and take it out on a tourist, not the drug store. Final parting thoughts: when a tourist gets hit by a cab or a bus, they make a squeaking noise - and are worth a whopping 25 points, but only if they're from a red state. This is the worst Duane Reade and worst convenience store I have ever been in. Chronically understaffed and the staff are about as nice and helpful as you expect when the crew of 3 that's there needs another 3 people working. Food selection and odds n ends selection okay. The pharmacy is terrible. I've always preferred independent pharmacies when they are available but I have used chain pharmacies and this one is miserable. The line always stretches down half the aisle. The techs that ring you up barely speak and just don't care. The pharmacist doesn't help when you ask. The line takes forever to move. They are chronically out of common medicine (both rx and OTC) in common dosages, e.g., Coumadin, Benadryl, Claritin, Allegra, Lovenox, almost all opioid pain medication, etc. I don't get it. The pharmacist said about the allergy meds I mentioned "we stock it every day but it's sold out in a few hours". So order more! You know it's allergy season. I don't get it. The only saving grace is the pharmacy is open 24 hours a day. Better to call ahead and see if they have what you want. If you have to use a chain pharmacy because of insurance or prices or whatever, Costco sells at cost and the pharmacists there are helpful. You do NOT need a membership to use the pharmacy thanks to a federal regulation passed long ago. read more
