I recently was traveling between two cities when I got stuck in Philadelphia on a layover and stranded overnight due to flight cancellations. I went into the city to stay at a hotel but with my luggage stuck at the airport and inaccessible, I went in search for a drugstore to get some toiletries and other items once I arrived to the hotel. This CVS Pharmacy was the closest drugstore to the hotel. As I walked to the front entrance, there was a homeless man in front of the entrance where it was awkward to walk around him but I needed to go into the store. I was pleased, however, with the service and the items in stock upon my arrival though. The store looked a bit disheveled where a number of items including deodorant were locked up, and I needed to find an employee to assist me. Once the employee arrived, I was able to ask them where other items I was looking for were located. One item was too large (for only one night), and the employee went into the back to find me a smaller item at a smaller price. Not all employees would have been willing to do so. Ultimately, I found all items I was looking for, which were all everyday items. The checkout person looked at me like I'd killed his entire family when I walked up to the counter. I got there around 11:35-11:40, and there was an announcement saying the the place would be closing in 9 minutes. When I was leaving (11:45-11:50) that same checkout person was starting to roll down the blinds in the front on the store. Why, why, why do Philadelphia businesses consistently close 5, 10, 15 minutes earlier than they claim to close? Especially in a city where almost nothing is open after 9 or 10 PM? I got there in time and got what I needed, but I was STILL angry that they acted like they can close when they feel like closing. They probably act that way because they CAN. And DO. As a 35-year customer-service veteran and a person with time management issues, it fills me with rage that they close so much earlier than the advertised closing time. read more

I'm gonna be uprfront: I'm a pre-med student, but I also have a significant fear of actually going to the doctor because I've had waaaaay too many bad experiences in the past. That being said, I'm always nervous whenever it comes to doctor's visits but NP Aviso and Antonova (as well as MA (I forget her name; a black woman who I see every time [especially if I'm getting my blood taken], if you see this you are absolutely lovely and I apologize for not remembering your name!! You are (again) absolutely lovely and have wonderful venipuncture technique; I never get any bruises or any other side effects whenever you take my blood!!)) have always made me feel so comfortable and heard. Antonova especially was patient with me during a sensitive screening which I appreciate as I felt cared for (I have had experiences with other doctors that made me feel weird/'wrong' for coming to them for my health problems, but she treated it with empathy: exactly as it is, but being sensitive to how the news of these conditions can come across to patients). I appreciate her so much, and it is a treat whenever I come by for any other appointments :) As for the pharmacy, I have limited experiences and limited views. The one experience with "standard" medication I have was pleasant and straightforward--I told my name/gave the required info and got my medication in a straightforward manner which I appreciate. However, when it came to asking about controlled medication to another pharmacist, she was rather snippy and blunt; I don't hold any anger towards her but afterwards I have a difficult journey locating this medication and I wish she would've been kinder with her delivery :( read more

I'm sure it's not easy running a CVS near city hall - but this is one of the worst locations I have ever been to. The delays in picking up medications here are unmatched, and if you call to ask for updates or help, they will literally say "we don't have it" and nothing else - wish I was kidding! Long lines at the pharmacy as well. Although it seems they've recently hired more security, entering the store feels unsafe and I always try to get out of there as soon as I can. If you're desperate and need to go - plan for a quick visit and don't depend on them for getting your medication on time. read more

I very infrequently review anything, but I am so done with this pharmacy that I've just transferred all my prescriptions to another one. I just wanna give a huge shoutout to the wonderful nurse who gave me my vaccines yesterday, Joanne. She was incredibly kind and very sweet. She made the process very easy and streamlined, and really provided the type of medical care you don't see a lot in the city (let alone at a CVS). I had to get some shots for school and she even helped me get them all on the same day so I didn't have to come back, even though I only scheduled one. I am truly tired of dealing with this pharmacy- specifically one specific member who I will not rudely call out. But, just to make it clear, for the last 2.5 years there is one consistent woman who is demeaning, rude, and lacks empathy. I come to this store to get depression medication, and I leave CVS more depressed after dealing with this woman who has NO care for the patient. I am at my breaking point and need to complain here; CVS, this is a great location- FIX YOUR STAFF'S HUMANITY FOR DEALING WITH FOLKS WHO ARE IN NEED OF MEDICINE. I called the CVS pharmacy for help with a prescription and spoke to a male on the phone. He was incredibly rude and scoffed at my question. After that interaction I will never use this cvs pharmacy. It pains me to think of someone calling in for help, especially someone from a vulnerable population and being met with such disgusting and disrespectful behavior. I truly hope it was just a bad day for the pharmacist but if someone has the ability to speak with a stranger over the phone asking for help regarding their medical care, it's worrisome to think this may be common practice. read more

Absolutely worst possible experience for the Minute Clinic. Made an appointment online for 1:29. Got a confirmation code via email and text. Spend $15 on uber to get their, arrive at 1:05. Get a text while arriving that I'm on the wait list. Don't know what that means. Register that I'm there and proceed to wait. At the 1:33 mark I check the board. Now I have to wait 35 minutes for an appointment that should have started 4 minutes ago. People keep arriving and logging in. Next time I check I've been pushed back to 5th in line and the wait is now 45 minutes. So they expect me to wait for even longer? What frakkery is this? Why was I moved from confirmed to wait before my appointment? Left and spent another $15 to get back to work. Wasted time and money and patience. Never again CVS minutes to hours clinic. read more

The pharmacists at 1500 Spruce are some of the rudest and most unprofessional people I've ever met. They clearly hate their jobs, and they take their rancor at their own life choices out on the patients they treat so poorly -- often potentially very sick or disabled people who are struggling to get their prescriptions filled on time. Communication between the pharmacy, the insurance, and the prescriber is non existent and this negatively impacts the patient by requiring them to skip doses or go without medication regularly in addition to taking time from their own lives and work to sort out the messes the pharmacy makes. They refuse to do the bare minimum of communicating information about powerful drugs and I doubt they ever check drug interactions. If you have a question about your new medication, they practically yell at you for asking them to do the basics of their job. They belittle and shame people who are potentially going through something quite traumatic regardless of how common or uncommon their medication is, and their behavior towards patients is not just unhelpful but actively cruel. read more

Always been my neighborhood pharmacy for the past 18 years. Nice friendly place. Easy access to minor things you may need at a pharmacy.

This CVS consistently does not have anything that I need. You can walk into this place and guaranteed whatever it is that you want will not be there. Also, the customer service is mixed. On many occasions I've been served while the cashier was talking to the next cashier over. Pluses: The photo lab attendants are usually very helpful and are there to make sure that you get the best prints in the time frame that you have. They'll be honest if they have too many to print and won't make the 1 hour time slot. The pharmacy is also very good. The head pharmacist talks to you and gives recommendations if he feels that what you're getting is better served as a generic OTC drug. UPDATE (1/16/2008): The photo lab is not good if anyone else but the tall guy is working back there. Their chemicals were off when I went to have my pictures printed and everything came out YELLOW and the paper was loaded poorly so the edges of my pictures showed a white strip. I said I wasn't going to pay for my pictures and walked out the door. However, I've often found myself walking out the door and heading over to the Spruce Market just up the street to get what I could not get at this CVS. It is eerily bizarre how inconsistent the quality of a CVS can be from one block to the next. read more

Find me a better CVS! C'mon...really. I come here so often it's embarrassing. I can't help it's super convenient when I always seem to forget something I needed at the grocery store. Not to mention they've done a great job tempting me with Essie nail polish, and an even better job locking me in with those ExtraCare rewards. Every now and then they might be out of some item, but it's usually something I didn't need anyway. For example, blackest black in Maybelline's The Falsies mascara. When it comes to over-the-counter medicines and food, they have you covered. The pharmacy is pretty efficient; I've never had trouble. I can usually wait in the store and they'll have my prescription to me in less time than they projected. Self checkout is the way to go here, but it can get frustrating when the lines are long. Even when I move to a different neighborhood, I would go out of my way to go to this CVS over others in the city. One complaint...they never carry Cadbury Creme Eggs when they're in season. I can't believe I'm actually writing another CVS review, but hey, maybe it will be helpful to someone. This CVS is not bad. It usually has the essential items you look for when you walk into a CVS. For whatever reason, it seems as though every time I come here, no matter the time of day, there are also huge boxes blocking the aisles as they stock the shelves. Isn't there a specific time when this is done, like very early in the morning or after closing? I used to work in retail and this is how it was done. Now, my biggest gripe with this particular location is the self checkout area and their placement. When there is a heavy flow of traffic, it usually leads to two lines. Maybe it's not a big deal, but if you're waiting on line and someone on the other line goes in front of you when you know you were ahead of them, then it's time to act crazy and burn the place down. read more

On more than one occasion I ask for help finding something, and they shrugged, said they didn't have it, and walked away. I found it later on my own. Very ignorant. There is a CVS on every corner, and you would think they are all the same. But as an avid CVS groupie, I can tell you that they have a lot of differences. I personally like the one on Spruce Street for these reasons. It has a lot of self checkout registers. Time saver. It has a nice grocery selection so I can buy food even when I am there for Nair. Time saver. It is conveniently located just far enough out of center city that you can find nearby parking almost every time. Time saver. You get the point. CVS has a great new online program where your shopping points can be added to your card via internet, so there is no longer any need to carry coupons. Thank goodness. I love the rewards program and the coupons but I really love the ability to stop in at CVS to shop without planning ahead. Time saver. read more

The pharmacists are very friendly and helpful. Pharmacists get 5 stars. There are about 2 friendly/helpful non-pharmacy employees. The rest are so rude that I stopped going. The best way to describe their attitudes is they act like they are doing you a huge favor by ringing up your purchases. The only exchange I have with them is when I instinctively say "thank you", because of lack of interaction, at which point I get a grunt or a "you're welcome". This CVS isn't the biggest or nicest CVS I've been to, but it has a sufficient amount of things for my last minute things. I had to ask for assistance to fine cone coffee filters, and that was their ONLY option for coffee filters (thank god that was the kind I was looking for). It is a short walk from my apartment building, which is nice and the staff were nice and willing to help me out, so that is a plus! I'll be back every now and then to grab little things, like nail polish, etcetc. read more

Arrived at minute clinic for vaccine that had been scheduled. Was told to go to pharmacy. I mentioned that online it said appt needed but was told not a problem. At pharmacy though it did seem to be a problem. I was told I needed an appt. however pharmacist did agree. Technician was borderline rude barking some directions at me. The technician who provided vaccine offered no communication other than which arm, then walked away after shot. No info regarding a wait time or when to schedule next dose. I don't always think quickly in the moment so after I left I realized I wasn't sure about next dose. Of course I can research this info but at minimum I would expect that from a provider. Also a greeting and good bye is minimum customer service. read more

I come here for household item purchases and pantry items, and all of the staff are helpful with finding items and have good recommendations for purchases. The store manager is very nice and friendly, he goes out of his way to please customers! He's also put some great items on sale, the sale prices are great! I've used the Minute Clinic a few times and they're good for things like strains, sprains, colds, and other minor issues. Get there early though to get seen. This store often gets very busy in the evening, usually they have plenty of cashiers on duty then or they call for backup. Great store for everyday items that I need in a pinch! read more

I love CVS sales and we easily save a lot of money when we shop there (the other day we got $90+ worth of stuff for under $45). That said, its pretty poorly run... the check out is pretty much self check out only unless its crazy busy. While I prefer self checkout, I know a lot of people want someone else to do it for them and are pretty uncomfortable with self checkout. The other thing that bothers me is that the self checkout won't scan computer printed coupons which is crazy annoying since we have to call someone over to put in the coupon bc it doesn't give an option to put in the coupon code on your own. I'll obviously be back, its CVS and its close to my apartment, but I think they should think about customers a little more than minimizing their staff to the point its nonexistent. read more

Never print photos here. The first time I ordered photos they were not ready within the estimated time provided by CVS. They told me it would take an additional 15 minutes to print.. so I waited. After 45 minutes my pictures were finally ready. I paid for the photos and left. When I got home and took a look at the photos I found color smears and poor quality photographs. I was unable to use a majority of the photos printed. I gave CVS the benefit of the doubt and chose to print my photos there again. This time I ordered only a few. I was pleased upon my arrival to find they were ready on time. When I got home to review the photos I found that my 5 x 7 prints were not a true 5 x 7. They were printed on larger paper leaving a white border to surround the 5 x 7 print. Therefore, I have to cut the photos down to size. read more

My prescription was filled within 30 minutes of a pharmacist within 2 hours of closing on a Saturday, so I would call that 5 star service! I only had to wait 5 minutes in line to pick it up. In regards to the MinuteClinic, please beware. I came here thinking I had a sinus infection which the nurse practitioner - Theresa Cassidy confirmed. In fact, she said I had "acute pansinusitis." Guess what? She was wrong. I found out a few weeks later from a neurologist that they were migraines. The nurse here prescribed me super strong antibiotics which killed my GI tract. I haven't had an appetite in close to two months and have lost 11 pounds. I would sue this place if I could. read more

In the last four months, three out of four times I tried to fill my prescription here, they were out of stock. Ever since they took out the self-service check out kiosks the line gets pretty out of control. That said, the people behind the counter checking you out are always very kind, courteous and friendly. Regarding the pharmacy, the customer service could be much improved. I used to go to Jomici across the street but my insurance no longer allows me to use them for certain prescriptions, so I have no choice but to go with CVS. I could go to another CVS, but this one is closest. They are efficient at the pharmacy, but what is really lacking is a sense that anyone behind the counter cares about the people they are filling prescriptions for. Everybody back there seems either really tired or bored depending on who you get, and overall, they are not the friendliest, warmest bunch at all. Would go back to my old pharmacy in a second if I could. A little bit of warmth and friendliness goes a really long way. read more
