It was my first time seriously couponing, and the staff stocking shelves were incredibly patient helping me locate items. I scanned everything through the CVS app before putting it in my cart to make sure the coupons attached correctly. One employee with bright red lipstick was especially encouraging and genuinely cheered me on while I was figuring everything out. Those interactions made me feel welcome and excited to learn. I will say that I hate how much merchandise is locked up at this location. I understand why stores do it, especially in the city, but needing assistance every time you want a basic item gets frustrating quickly. That said, the employees who helped unlock items were polite and helpful. The real problems started at checkout. I had carefully planned three transactions so I could roll ExtraBucks rewards between purchases. My first transaction should have earned $19 in ExtraBucks, but only $11 appeared. Several digital coupons that showed as attached in the app didn't apply at checkout either. I also had qualifying items for one of the spend-threshold promotions, but the reward never triggered despite the shelf tags clearly advertising it. While I was trying to figure out what happened, another customer standing nearby told me she had experienced similar issues at this same store and had stopped trying to use the promotions because rewards frequently failed to appear in her account. Hearing that made me wonder whether this was a larger problem than simple user error. Then I had an interaction with an employee named Marion that turned an annoying situation into an awful one. I was trying to explain exactly what I had done, including how I scanned every item through the app beforehand to verify the coupons attached. I couldn't get through a complete sentence without being interrupted. Instead of listening, she repeatedly told me I was wrong and insisted ExtraBucks are only issued at the end of the month. This may have been my first time couponing, but it was not my first time shopping at CVS, and I knew that wasn't how ExtraBucks generally work. The conversation got increasingly uncomfortable. At one point she told me to retrieve coupons from the self-checkout receipt bin and repeatedly implied that I was causing problems because I didn't understand the system. What upset me most was the implication that I might be stealing items, despite the fact that I had carefully scanned everything and was actively trying to verify my purchases. It wasn't until I requested a full refund and she scanned every item in my bag against my receipt that the suggestion disappeared. I would never intentionally steal from a store, and being treated as though I might was humiliating. Even at the end of the interaction, the tone remained condescending. I fully understood that returned purchases wouldn't generate ExtraBucks rewards. The issue wasn't that I expected rewards after a refund. The issue was that the advertised rewards and coupons didn't work correctly in the first place. I know retail is difficult. I know coupon transactions can be complicated. I went into the conversation expecting some confusion and maybe even a little frustration while we worked through it. What I didn't expect was to be repeatedly interrupted, talked down to, treated with suspicion, and made to feel like I was wasting everyone's time for asking reasonable questions. The kind employees on the sales floor deserve recognition because they were genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, the checkout experience completely overshadowed that goodwill. I left feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and convinced that I won't be returning to this location.

Nova Star is one of those increasingly rare places where it's always a person to person experience. It's a tiny store. But the owner has such good taste in products and somehow manages to stock the store with a wide variety of things that are high quality, unique, and cool. Skincare, bodycare, vitamins and supplements, teas, candles, soaps, everything. A lot of organic and artisanal products. A lot of smaller brands. A lot of imported things that you don't see every day. It's like a magic trick. They're also super nice as pharmacists. And just super great customer service all around. IMO, this is not one of the best pharmacies in Philadelphia, it's one of the best stores overall. Period. This is one of those almost flawless things. I have no notes. They could not be better.

I recently was traveling between two cities when I got stuck in Philadelphia on a layover and…read morestranded overnight due to flight cancellations. I went into the city to stay at a hotel but with my luggage stuck at the airport and inaccessible, I went in search for a drugstore to get some toiletries and other items once I arrived to the hotel. This CVS Pharmacy was the closest drugstore to the hotel. As I walked to the front entrance, there was a homeless man in front of the entrance where it was awkward to walk around him but I needed to go into the store. I was pleased, however, with the service and the items in stock upon my arrival though. The store looked a bit disheveled where a number of items including deodorant were locked up, and I needed to find an employee to assist me. Once the employee arrived, I was able to ask them where other items I was looking for were located. One item was too large (for only one night), and the employee went into the back to find me a smaller item at a smaller price. Not all employees would have been willing to do so. Ultimately, I found all items I was looking for, which were all everyday items. I encourage everyone to sign up for ExtraCare, which is a free membership and includes sales prices, deals for you, 2% back in ExtraBucks rewards, a $3 birthday reward, and up to $50 in ExtraBucks rewards at the pharmacy. Then, for $60 per year ($5 per month), you can purchase membership in the ExtraCare+ program, which includes $10 in ExtraBucks rewards per month, free same-day delivery, free shipping, free same-day Rx delivery, 20% off CVS Health brand products, and 24/7 pharmacist help line. Occasionally, there is a $48 discounted annual rate for ExtraCare+ or another promotion. I have heavily used the ExtraCare+ program over the past many years. Also, while the Black Friday CVS deals were incredible a number of years ago, now you can only get good deals but not incredible deals with free items. While I'm a huge fan of CVS in general and the ExtraCare+ program, the stores are hit or miss. If I was stranded in Philadelphia again and in need of a CVS location, I would consider this location though I would be well aware of my surroundings when walking to and from this location.

That being said, I'm always nervous whenever it comes to doctor's visits but NP Aviso and Antonova (as well as MA (I forget her name; a black woman who I see every time [especially if I'm getting my blood taken], if you see this you are absolutely lovely and I apologize for not remembering your name!! You are (again) absolutely lovely and have wonderful venipuncture technique; I never get any bruises or any other side effects whenever you take my blood!!)) have always made me feel so comfortable and heard. Antonova especially was patient with me during a sensitive screening which I appreciate as I felt cared for (I have had experiences with other doctors that made me feel weird/'wrong' for coming to them for my health problems, but she treated it with empathy: exactly as it is, but being sensitive to how the news of these conditions can come across to patients). I appreciate her so much, and it is a treat whenever I come by for any other appointments :) As for the pharmacy, I have limited experiences and limited views. The one experience with "standard" medication I have was pleasant and straightforward--I told my name/gave the required info and got my medication in a straightforward manner which I appreciate. However, when it came to asking about controlled medication to another pharmacist, she was rather snippy and blunt; I don't hold any anger towards her but afterwards I have a difficult journey locating this medication and I wish she would've been kinder with her delivery :(

CVS has updated the check-in process, with automated check-in screens at every pharmacy register, to provide a more EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT process, beneficial to customers and the staff. I applaud Mr. Oke, who oversees the pharmacy for the region, and the VP of Customer Relations, and her staff.
