I wanted the carpet installed immediately after I closed . I went to The Carpet Store to pick out and purchase carpet. I went early on a Saturday morning. This place is a warehouse not really a "store". Several people were available to help fairly quickly. One to take the plans I brought in and attempt to measure, the other to help us select carpet. I did not know what I was getting myself into because I had no idea there were so many options and the entire process was confusing. From which brand, which material, which padding and the most difficult decision, which color... I was not prepared but I knew I was making a decision that day. Two hours later, I knew a bit more about carpet and padding and stain resistance, etc. We put down a $1000 deposit so they would make an appointment to measure which was scheduled the next week, once they measured, the carpet was ordered and took about a week and half to come in. Long story short, we did not close on the Townhouse and were refunded $750 of the $1000 deposit that was for approximately $3000 worth of carpet. We have about 6 months to use the $250 credit. I am giving 4 stars because this was a difficult process and I have nothing to compare to. The Carpet Store did a pretty good job helping us through it he process. I think!

My tile was to be installed in less than a week, all the while I'm made to assume that my tile is waiting to be picked up. I get a call from the carpet store telling me later that my tile is not available. This is the last thing you want to hear when time is of the essence. Perhaps it was due to the crisis that the tile didn't make it in time. Who knows! I was told I'd hear back with an alternative that closely resembled the original, never heard back. I'll give them a 3 star rating for the initial service I got from them, but this was a big time waster for me.

I was happy to see that this company has a great calculator to input our zip code and calculate the shipping fee. I did that, and it came out to a bit more than $150. I read all of the Terms and Conditions, and the Policies, especially the Shipping Policies, and nothing said anything about extra shipping fees to Hawaii, so I placed my order for $656.00. The next day, I got an email saying that "as noted on our website" orders to Hawaii require a phone call for an accurate shipping quote, and that the actual shipping was going to be $540! Again, I saw NOTHING on their website that required a phone call, and in fact, they had a calculator to estimate shipping fees. They could have easily put a note right next to the calculator. Of course, I wasn't going to pay $540 in shipping, so on that day, March 11, I asked for a refund. She emailed me a "credit memo" and I thought that was it. As of March 27 I had still not received my refund, so I emailed to ask. I got no response. Just an email with another "refund confirmation." Not even a message, a sorry, nothing. This came from Craig Hurst, who I have to assume is a boss in the company and I would think he would take more pride. I called my credit card company, and there were no refunds pending. As of today, March 29, Hurst has had the use of my hard earned $656 for almost THREE WEEKS. It's awful. I filed a complaint with my credit card company. It's a shame that they have caused such a waste of time, grief, and effort over what is probably not a lot of money to them, but it is a LOT of money to me. ALSO, AS I NOTED ABOVE, THEY CONFIRMED MY CANCELLATION ON MARCH 11. NOT MARCH 28 WHEN THEY FINALLY SAY THEY PROCESSED MY REFUND. I DON'T KNOW, BECAUSE NOW IT'S MARCH 31 AND MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY CONFIRMS THAT IT STILL HAS NOT POSTED. THEY'VE HAD THE USE OF MY $656 FOR ALMOST THREE WEEKS. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND POOR BUSINESS.
