I don't think that the magazine was particularly geared for me- a young, professional Caucasian woman- but nevertheless I found it entertaining. I would like to see it a bit more diverse and live up to the slogan that touts that UT is 'More than a magazine. It's a lifestyle.' The website is a bit bare bones and says that it is still under construction. I would like to know how long it has been around, etc. Has anyone else read or seen this publication. I am interested in hearing other Yelpers' feedback. This is about the only info provided on the website: "Urban Trendsetters are the movers and shakers who mold, shape, define and live life to the fullest and they do it "their way." They are our city leaders, business owners, executives and political figures. They represent the entertainment, beauty, health and fashion industries and provide insight as to where they are going and how they plan to get there."

The High Street Neighborhood guide is basically a book of coupons and ads. It comes out twice a…read moreyear and is filled with discounts to businesses in Columbus districts like Merion Village, German Village, the Brewery District, Downtown, the Short North, Clintonville, and more. You'll never hear me complain about coupons. This guide offers some pretty good ones, like $10 off your purchase of $30 or more at Buca di Beppo, buy two get one free on case items at Three Dog Bakery, and free donut with any purchase at Buckeye Donuts. The coupons are all good for six months, at which point you get a new High Street Guide. I've spoken with the publisher before, and he can be pushy and overwhelming, but his guide is really helpful for a recent post-grad who wants to stretch her entertainment budget. There are a few one-two paragraph pieces with some photos and usually one full editorial piece per issue. The writing isn't terrible but leave something to be desired. But, who cares?! You're getting this FREE publication to cut it up anyway.

You'll hear some of your favorite contemporary songs, even a few from the '80s and '90s which cannot be heard anywhere else. In addition, you'll hear some of my favorite Bible teachers like Ravi Zacharias and David Jeremiah. Not to mention how extremely inappropriate and disgusting the talks are that they discuss over the air. We wonder why the newest generation of children don't know how to act? Maybe if the public radio stations could act maturely, our children could grow up the same.

I'm not sure why I've never thought to review Columbus Underground. I mean... they're a local…read morebusiness -- and a damn fine one too. Maybe it's because it's something virtual? Anywho... moving on. I think back to when I first moved to Columbus a decade ago and what really made me fall in love with the city and decide to call it home. Two things: Yelp (for real, not a plug) and Columbus Underground. Since this isn't a review for Yelp, I'll stick with CU for now. CU is my favorite local website because it's everything I love -- tons of heart, positive and uplifting, and really scrappy. Scrappy is good, I swear. If you want to know anything that's going on in the city, you can find it here. I feel like so many news media outlets are simply wrap-ups or summaries of what has already happened, but CU is more about the cool things that are *about* to happen. They're always on the cusp of the next big thing. Or the next small thing. I love that CU doesn't just focus on the big, mega-popular happenings -- they also give lots of love to the small, scrappies of Columbus. Want to know about a tiny new bakery in Hilliard? They'll feature it. Or how about a social entrepreneur who's trying to make the city better? Yep, CU will tell you all about it. One last thing I heart about Columbus Underground -- the people. Every single person I've interacted with at CU has been wonderful. They take pride in their work and are all passionate about the city. You can feel their Columbus love.

Columbus Underground is the 411 for the 614. The best online news source, and probably the best…read moreplace to receive what's going on when planning a weekend out, like the Other Paper used to be, and Alive tries. But it is more than just that. CU is a cheerleader for urban living and development, leading the charge for livable downtown and increase density, sometimes to a fault. They are pro-future, pushing for modern public transportation--trains and light-rail--that so far alludes the city. They are on top of every development projects, at work and proposed, in town. Solid objective news stories offered here often beats the Dispatch to the punch, and are written in a high professional manner. Colorful writing also exist here: reviews of restaurants, art, and events are top notch and sophisticated. The website has a forum that often carry interesting conversation of local and national issues. The messageboard conversations are often intelligent and generally free of trolling. I love accessing them through may facebook feed where they post important stories. They do short shift covering stories of the non-professionals, the poor, and underclass--the under privaledge whose suffering the darkside if gentrification is often handwaved by the editors. Sometimes they are tone deaf to issues of preservation and community flavor in their zest to promote modern change, and seem to have a pro-developer biases even in hard news articles. This is its one-star mark I have against them. Otherwise, I love their pro-urbanization stance, their citywide coverage, and their great well written reviews.

I secretly listen to Delilah at night, too. She makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (And no I've never called.) If you haven't seen the new online outlet they are providing to its listeners, go check it out now. Great idea! I am really impressed with the events that they organize, too! I went to one back in April (Girls Night Out) at Whole Foods on Sawmill and it was fantastic! I am really impressed with the lengths this station goes to carve out its own niche in the community and think outside the box.

Music, of course, often evokes strong opinions so the tunes may or may not match your taste (it's…read morepop/rock), but I love that the station is very active in the community. They host various events throughout the year, everything from the kids club at Polaris Fashion Place during the summer to Girls' Nights Out and more. This year, we enjoyed attending the Easter EGGstravaganza Drive-Thru, which was a fun event that the kid really enjoyed. They had various booths handing out candy and other goodies (the cat ears from Cat Welfare was a big hit!), Mr. Sunny, and pictures with the Easter Bunny - all from the car. The station also offers their Treat Truck, which heads around to different events and different neighborhoods (you can apply for yours on their website) and hands out free treats. We've enjoyed everything from Dairy Queen ice cream or popsicle treats at kids club to this year's partnership with Cheryl's Cookies for Cheryl's birthday. We appreciate all of the fun stuff they've put together for the community!

Melt Magazine is a pocket-sized arts and entertainment magazine published in Columbus and…read moredistributed for free. I see it all around campus- in dorms, commons, and shops in the area. It's a cute little magazine. It's colorful and glossy and therefore chock full of advertisements. The space left for magazine content is used wisely, in my opinion: lots of visual data with small blurbs and short articles. It makes sense for a magazine this small- a short review of a concert, for instance, is perfectly fine when it has half a dozen pics of the event on the facing page. It's got a fair share of typos and misspellings, but Melt isn't half bad. I'd skip their video game reviews, though- it seems to be written either by someone who isn't a gamer or somebody who is trying awfully hard to appeal to a non-gaming crowd. Horrible. I mean, hey, it's free. That's about the best review anything could have, right?
