I've been working on a new State Park project near by so I ran to the nearest town, Eastland, for a…read moresit down lunch. This is an establishment where you seat yourself. Order at the counter and sit. Didn't take long to get my food during lunch. This is a small town and doesn't seem to garner big crowds for lunch. There were only 3 other people inside when I arrived. This sits in the city seat, their pass through town square with the city building in the center lot. Very cute area. It's a very cozy place. Lots of memorabilia and articles of bbq on the walls. It has the old decorative metal panel tiles on the ceiling and some exposed brick on the outside walls. This place still has the old displays windows from when it used to be what looks like a retail store. The menu is small and simple. Staff is friendly. This is another place where you pay when you order and get asked for a tip before receiving any service. I'll say that they bring the food then they don't interact afterwords. The drinks are bottled, so no endless cups with refills on anything. So that means no waitress asking about refills or how the food is. You become an island by yourself. I got the 2 meat combo so I could try the meats and the sides. It wasn't cheap. With a $1 bottle of water it was $25. Ouch. They do have lunch specials, today's was a pulled pork sandwich with chips and a drink for $12. Decent deal. I saw the sandwiches, regular size bun with an ample amount of meat. Potato salad is very much like egg salad. It has egg and the yokes are mixed in with the mustard/mayo mix. It's good, but different from your run of the mill potato salad. The cole slaw I really liked. I could taste what I thought was horse radish in it, tho it just may be cut up radishes. Either way, there is a zippiness to it that comes from one of those two ingredients. The brisket was good, Texas dry rub. It was very tender and had a slight smoke flavor to it. The sausage had jalapeño in it tho it wasn't noticeable. It was not spicy at all. The bbq sauce, a vinegar base, was spicier than the sausage. It did have cheese in it as well, which I didn't expect, that part wasn't mentioned. It's a good place yet a bit pricey, but it seems all BBQ is getting that way so it's not just this place specifically, compared to the portions on the tray it was fairly equal for the price. Should I return, I'll go the less expensive route and try the lunch specials.
