I've left a review for this restaurant before but it was based primarily on the food. The service is usually lacking but not as bad as today. My sister & I shown up around 4:05pm on Saturday, March 21st. There were two booths open. One still had stuff on it so we sat at what looked like the clean table. It apparently had not been wiped clean. There was water and some sort of sticky stuff on it. We told the young man about the sticky stuff and asked for a towel to clean the table. The young man brought us a dry towel. We ended up using hand sanitizer to clean the table. After about 15 minutes of waiting, my sister brings attention to the waitress that we would like to get drinks. The waitress, Carson, informed us that they're closed from 3:30pm to 4:30pm due to waitress/cook shift change, but since it was just two of us and it's nearly 4:30, she will go ahead and serve us. We feel that if the restaurant is closed for any reason, no matter the length of time, there should be a sign & the door should be locked. We ordered a large chicken fried steak and fried pickles. I said that we want the pickles first. The CFS came and I reminded her that we wanted the pickles first. She then said that she put in the order and need to check, they should be done. No, we heard them being dropped in the fryer. Then, when receiving our pickles, she said that the boy was cutting pickles when we came in and so they weren't read.... I say bolony. I don't believe either thing she said. The water was gross, unsure if the glasses were dirty but I had stuff floating in mine. It actually tasted like it had another soda in it. My sister's was awful too. She went next door and bought 2 bottles of water. I told Carson about the water. She didn't offer anything else to drink or take our glasses away. After being served, Carson never came back to the table. I'm only give a second star because of the food. Staff would get a 0 stars if I could. The waitress was the best part of this visit. She was super nice and was the ONLY server. The TLDR is the wait was not worth the food. We waited over an hour and a half for our appetizer. The brisket poppers did not contain brisket. After we have been there for so long, we were then told they were out of buffalo sauce for the Buffalo chicken salad. The pork chops were bland and the portion of Mac and cheese tasted odd and was tiny. Chicken fried steak was okay. read more

Today was actually 3 stars, but I'm a nice person. We came to eat after the car show. There were only 4 people working, with one waitress. The restaurant was jam packed, with people standing waiting for a table. The waitress did a great job getting to everyone, but the food coming out was SO slow. When we finally got our food, mine was wrong and went back. When we did get to eat, it was very good! Mike's hamburger steak was excellent, and my southwest hamburger steak so good! Disappointed tonight. After the reviews we were really looking forward to it. When arriving we were the only ones in building. Couple rowdy teenage boys in the back and younger teenage waitress. She was attentive at first. Took order quickly, brought drinks, Spitzer's were cheese sticks out of bag, homemade ranch that was great and good hot sauce but lacked heat and chips were basic tortilla from store. Kids split chicken strip plate one had corn and fries other Mac n cheese and fries. Mac needed to be tossed bc of how dry it was, chicken and fries were cold. Chicken fried steak was complete soggy on bottom, lacked flavor and same with steak fingers. Mashed potatoes were cold and brown gravy. Husband said he enjoyed that steak fingers weren't all batter. My broccoli was amazing, hot and lots of flavor. What bothered us the most was the unprofessional staff males in the back yelling and cussing. We had a 3 year old 6&7. Before hitting the road we used the bathroom and the language was inappropriate in normal conversation let alone in restaurant. The bathroom is disgusting and needs to be dusted and cleaned. If we stopped by traveling through it would be lunch because everything we got was cold, dry and flavorless. read more

We've passed by this business many times and finally stopped in for lunch on our way home after church. The food had a good flavor, seasoned just right. Our waitress was busy but good. Cute lil restaurant in an old building. TVs set up in the four booths. Football season is upon us. If your ever driving through Cross Plains TX, stop in. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Cross Plains had an event, was there as a vendor. I can't say enough nice things about this place. The food was really tasty. The burgers were nice and big and juicy the waitress and the other two people working, worked very hard and it was busy and it took a minute to get our meal, but our meal was fresh no complaints and they did an amazing job. We travel through Cross Plains regularly . We discovered this cafe last year and have eaten there several times . The food is excellent . They season everything well and their side salad is made just the way I love . They have the best breaded pork cutlet that I have ever eaten -BUT the service is very slow . It is home cooked so I get that that takes longer . Just saying make sure you have plenty of time. read more

I was so excited to try this place out after having heard about it online. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We ordered, and while waiting we had to listen to older man that is cook loudly banter flirting with very young waitress. Cook messed up our order and proceeded to banter back and forth with waitress about not telling him and she yelling that it was on ticket. We were the only customers there and when the food came out it was apparent as to why we were there alone. Best way to describe it was most school cafeteria would have tasted better. Well it took a while to get our food but it was WORTH it. My husband got a very generous grilled chicken salad that came w a boiled egg and pickled okra. I got one of the better (lunch size) chicken fried steaks I've ever had. Mashed potatoes were well seasoned and the green beans were very good. Heck, I even devoured the perfectly buttered and toasted bread although I'm not a big bread eater. Sweet tea was Texas sweet too. Only drawback had nothing to do with the food - the bathroom could use a good cleaning and redecorating. Anyway - I would definitely stop here again if I'm in the area. read more

My husband and I on our way back to Oklahoma from San Angelo, TX stopped here to eat. Cute little restaurant. We had a young polite waitress. She was very attentive and service was excellent. I couldn't make my mind up what I wanted to eat, so I asked her recommendation and she said you can't go wrong with our burgers. It was one of her favorites. Well that was one of the options I was trying to decide between and she was 100% accurate. The burger was amazing along with all the fresh veggies that I got. The French fries were home made kind. My husband got the curly fries with his burger. The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Each booth along wall had its own individual TV you could watch. What a great place to eat! The best fried okra since my Mom cooked it. Moist, tender grilled chicken breast and perfect mashed potatoes. My husband's hamburger was The Perfect Hamburger with Hatch chili's & French fries were great. No room for dessert. Went to this location and they did not follow safe food handling procedures. They had two booths blocked off for Covid19 but none of the servers were wearing gloves or seemed to care about safety. The food took forever and it really wasn't that good for the price. We spent $12 for a burger and fries that were mediocre at best. Meat was overcooked and dry and the fries were soaked in grease and were unusually undercooked in the middle while still being somewhat surprisingly soggy on the outside. read more
