Today was actually 3 stars, but I'm a nice person. We came to eat after the car show. There were only 4 people working, with one waitress. The restaurant was jam packed, with people standing waiting for a table. The waitress did a great job getting to everyone, but the food coming out was SO slow. When we finally got our food, mine was wrong and went back. When we did get to eat, it was very good! Mike's hamburger steak was excellent, and my southwest hamburger steak so good! I'll fix this at home! We will be back, when it's not so busy!

We went in to eat a little bit after lunch and ordered a Crispy Chicken Club and a Club Sandwich hot. Both were delicious and we had a great waitress

Excellent. Eat here! You can't beat a good mom and pop place! Very flavorful, great portions. Just git in here and eat!

Disappointed tonight. After the reviews we were really looking forward to it. When arriving we were the only ones in building. Couple rowdy teenage boys in the back and younger teenage waitress. She was attentive at first. Took order quickly, brought drinks, Spitzer's were cheese sticks out of bag, homemade ranch that was great and good hot sauce but lacked heat and chips were basic tortilla from store. Kids split chicken strip plate one had corn and fries other Mac n cheese and fries. Mac needed to be tossed bc of how dry it was, chicken and fries were cold. Chicken fried steak was complete soggy on bottom, lacked flavor and same with steak fingers. Mashed potatoes were cold and brown gravy. Husband said he enjoyed that steak fingers weren't all batter. My broccoli was amazing, hot and lots of flavor. What bothered us the most was the unprofessional staff males in the back yelling and cussing. We had a 3 year old 6&7. Before hitting the road we used the bathroom and the language was inappropriate in normal conversation let alone in restaurant. The bathroom is disgusting and needs to be dusted and cleaned. If we stopped by traveling through it would be lunch because everything we got was cold, dry and flavorless.

We've passed by this business many times and finally stopped in for lunch on our way home after church. The food had a good flavor, seasoned just right. Our waitress was busy but good. Cute lil restaurant in an old building. TVs set up in the four booths. Football season is upon us. If your ever driving through Cross Plains TX, stop in. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Specials daily!

Stopped here for a quick bite on our way to New Mexico. Great home cooking, burgers and chicken fried steak is fantastic. I'd pass on the loaded mashed potatoes. They were pretty chunky and a bit cold

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!

The waitress was very friendly, but spread a little thin through all the tables. Menu had something for everyone. We ordered the special, smothered chicken, and it was not special. The shredded cheese they balled on there was barely melted. We ordered a plain burger for my son. The patty was thin and over cooked and bun a little over toasted. I ordered the Philly steak fries and they were good and I would order again. We travel through this area and were hoping it would be a place to eat and rest, but not sure we will make it a priority

I stopped here while on a business trip and was shocked when I received my bill…read more I ordered a $12.99 burger, a Cherry Vanilla DP for $2.80, and upgraded my fries to onion rings for $2, according to the menu. Based on those prices, I expected my total with tax to be around $19-20. Instead, my bill came to $23.38. When I called to ask about the charges, I was told they no longer had the original ticket, so they couldn't review the itemized bill. The employee explained that I had been charged $3 for the onion ring upgrade instead of the $2 shown on the menu, and that my soda had apparently been upgraded to a large without my knowledge or permission, adding another $1. They also mentioned there were several other small charges that contributed to the total, even though I never requested any extras. The restaurant refunded me $2, but that still left me paying $21.38 instead of $19 for a burger, onion rings, and a soda, which I find excessive. I've always met clients at another restaurant when I'm in town for business, but this time my meeting was here at someone else's suggestion. Compared with both the restaurant I normally visit and restaurants where I live, I found the prices and unexplained charges disappointing. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. The place is just an old diner in the town of Strawn. We showed up at 1130. They had nice crowd no wait. Sit down and order. We got a small and a medium chicken fried steak. For the sides fries and mash potatoes with a small salad each. The small steak is prefect size for me. But if you are hungry go for medium or the large. The chicken fried steak is made a little different than most. Not the usual type of breading. We really enjoyed the meal all was very good. The steak was tender and great flavor. Fries cook perfect and great for dipping into my gravy. Mary came around and took the order and she also went to each table and made sure you like the food. Very good service from all the staff. I'm really surprised at how many four and five stars there are. Almost nothing we got had flavor: Queso - literally just cheese with nothing added - no salsa, no jalapeños, no onion - nothing. If you put queso on the menu, I think people expect it to have more than literally melted cheese. Chicken Fried Steak - loved that the breaded parts stuck to the meat and was excited to eat, but again, literally no flavor. We didn't finish it and we didn't take the leftovers. Mashed potatoes - No flavor AGAIN. We were so surprised and disappointed. You can see everyone there busting their tails though. Those women deserve every penny of every tip left for them.
