I took my bike in for gear shifter cable installation and a new headset. I was quoted a price of around $100 for all parts and labor. Next thing I know, I was charged $140 with the work already started without calling me. I had no choice but to accept it since they already started the work. I was told they would contact me when the bike is ready. Several days later, I called due to no contact. I was told the bike was already done and apologized for not contacting me. When I went to pick up the bike I noticed that gear shifter caps were not put back on (which I had removed and provided to them in a ziploc bag). When I asked about it, I was told they didn't have the right screw. The shifter was a standard Shimano shifter, not some exotic custom shifter. For a bike shop to say they don't stock screws for a common standard equipment is shocking and, frankly, unacceptable. I will not be using Cycle Solutions again. Good thing another shop opened up on Kingston Rd in the Upper Beaches. Cycle Solution is getting way too complacent. read more

I've been visiting Cycle Solutions for years (even though they aren't the closest bike shop to us), so it's surprising I'm just getting to this review now! :-) Over that time, I've dealt with many of their sales and service folks and what comes across from every one of them is: they just love biking. I always get knowledgeable, honest advice from them. Sometimes that meant buying something that cost more, sometimes less, and sometimes they'd just send me away with plans that meant spending no money at all. They don't "sell"; They just want help you to love your bike and have a great ride. I can't say there are many shopping experiences I enjoy, but next week, we're scheduled to bring our bikes in for service and to get some new pannier racks and I'm actually looking forward it! I don't know how they work their easygoing biking-mojo on me... but I like it! read more

I recently needed a few small things for my bike, and dropped in at Cycle Solutions since I was in the area. Although I didn't get what I was looking for this time, I am still rating them 4-stars based on previous satisfaction. I used to go there more frequently when I lived in East York and was riding more, but this is the first time I have been back in a few years. The store seemed smaller than I remember and somewhat re-arranged, but it still had a lot of bikes for sale, and several staff members around helping people or doing repairs. While I have mostly done my own repairs over the years, I have bought many parts and accessories for a couple of older bikes (although I have never purchased a bike from them). I have also had 2-3 repairs done, usually while I waited, except for one more serious job which was completed earlier than promised. Generally the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful w/o being condescending. Their stock is usually pretty varied, but the low-end version of what I needed was sold-out on this particular visit; they only had a more expensive version which would not have been worth it for me. Despite this, I would still recommend them for either parts or repairs. read more

I purchased a Norco Hybrid here last spring and was amazed at the quality of service and the overall knowledge displayed by their staff continues to wow me. These people live and breathe bikes and are more than happy to impart their vast collective wisdom on those wishing to drink from the deep well of cycling knowledge. They take the time to explain the subtle differences between makes and models, tire sizes, braking mechanisms (my bike has disc brakes)... and are truly there for you. Sales staff ask probing questions and do an incredible job of matching bike to owner. Solution based selling at its finest. I brought my bike back on two occasions for minor tuneups and on each visit I was whisked in and and out in under 30 minutes. Can anyone say same day service-appointments aren't necessary here. Great displays, easily accessible location, friendly and knowledgeable staff and speedy service. You will not steer astray when purchasing with Cycle Solutions. read more

Was referred by a friend. Showed up without an appointment for a pedal and saddle swap along with a gear adjustment. Got it back the following day even though they were booking two weeks in advance. I went for a ride a few days later and unfortunately the ride pedal wasn't tighten ( in error) and it fell out during my first ride of the season - which I was disappointed about. I took it back and the sales person helping me took the bike in again with no appointment. The mechanic Mike called me personally to apologize and offered me a free upgraded crank at no charge. I was very pleased about this and he also got the bike back to me within a few hours. Problems happen in business - it's just a fact of doing business. It's how they are handled that make the difference. They have earned my repeat business and I would definitely refer to them. read more

Every time I've gone in I had an issue with my little bike; a slipped chain and then today, an issue with my valve. Totally unprepared, I was still lucky enough to be close by to Cycle Solutions and every time greeted and aided by the great staff there. Imagine going to buy a brand new bike only for a week to go by and the breaks rubbing, so I take it back today to get it looked at to be told that it'll be at least a week to fix.  This is something that should be an issue at all, considering this is my day to day transportation and I've had it a week.   I haven't even had the time to break the bike in on the Don valley trails and I'm already having issues.  Brand new bikes shouldn't be having these problems and when they get brought up you shouldn't have to wait a week to straighten the front rim. These are issues that shouldn't be a thing when I received my bike last Wednesday all it does is provide me to and from work Monday to Friday I've used it for 6 days and this issue has come up, my previous bike I bought from here no issues, when I needed assistance on small things done no problem I understand there's a pandemic and stuff should take longer, don't get me wrong I know but when you buy a bike brand new you at least expect it a couple of months before you start seeing stuff like this happen. just disappointed that it couldn't be dealt with promptly because it was a new bike and all. read more

since there seem to be so few reviews... i went here to get a lock and it was overall a pleasant, helpful experience. the guy that was primarily helping me seemed to be a straight-shooter (told me he thought my bike pirates bike was nothing near the $120 they charged) and didn't try to upsell me locks for my (apparently sh*tty) bike. i asked to see a few more things and he was very honest, very helpful. got a bike rack installed, and they did it on the spot. he offered me a used one for $10 (and then a $5 labor charge) and installed a new seat for me right away too. all the guys were friendly and just chatty enough. overall, a very pleasant experience. read more

Offered to purchase a youth bicycle that was posted for 300$, asking 350$ was told "I'll get back to you on that. I just listed it on facebook too and have a couple people messaging me about it." I used to love this shop, even after the first couple of times I got attitude, which I just attributed to them being busy/ having a bad day. The last time I went in for a flat fix, I phoned ahead, shortly after opening, was told it shouldn't be a problem, and got there promptly. Here's how the conversation went when I walked up to repairs: "Hi. I was told I could get a flat fix today?" "NO! NO! No way! Forget it!" "Well, gee, sorry, I phoned ahead and was told..." "Yeah, well who did you talk to? You tell me his name and I'll fix your flat." Not thinking I was booking an MRI, I had neglected to note the front desk guy's name. Anyway, the jerk at repairs peevishly agreed to fix my bike, asked my name for the job, I asked his name, which he refused to provide, fixed my flat (in an hour) and when I took the bike outside I noticed that through wear or UV the side of the same wheel was shredded. I hadn't noticed this until this point, but you would think the guy with the wheel in his hands, changing the tube, who does this for a living, might have picked up on it. Always an excellent combination: Arrogance and incompetence. I used to love this place. Several years ago I went in to replace a seat post that had a shock absorber in it. The manager, not the owner (a New Zealand guy i believe) told me they didn't really do much, and while he could sell me one, I shouldn't bother. I remarked that he had talked me out of giving him my money. he said "That's alright. I'll get your money next time." And they did. For years. And i recommended this shop to everyone i knew for tune ups, repairs, everything. Never again. And the cool kiwi guys no longer managing the place. It shows. Then again, insolent, incompetent staffing is invariably traced to a lackadaisical attitude on the part of ownership. Again, it shows. I also had an experience with a defective seat that tore right along the seam within a week of my purchase. I was told, again, no problem, over the phone, then, when I went to the store, was told that i must have cut it myself. Obviously, because that's what I do in my spare time, travel across town to burn bike shops for $40 gel seats. Worthless. Avoid at all costs. read more

Great bunch of guys who all ride and know their stuff. Though not the closest to home I've come to make Cycle Solutions my "go to" bike shop as their service has been much better than any other local shop. A few key points: They have always offered a cheaper solution to whatever "fix" I'm looking for instead of the easiest way of outright replacing a part first. It's nice to see a shop go out of their way to keep a few needed bucks in my pocket. They all seem to go out of their way no matter how busy they are to help out and find what you're looking for AND in a price range you want. Just the other day I was buying stuff and a man came in with a rusted POS bike that obviously needed everything. They cannibalized an old bike they had for parts to get him rolling for cheap. Seriously who does this these days? Most importantly they've never pretended to know about something they're not familiar with. The words "I don't know, let me find that out for you" is actually a massive incentive to shop there over a place that always has the answers right or wrong. Did I mention the awesome selection of bikes there? They range from entry level to ones that I drool over and would likely need a second mortgage on my house to ride around on. Went in to buy a bike for my daughter and even they were setting up for an event (grand reopening), Nelson (the owner) was nice enough to spend time to discuss with me options for my daughter and even offer a loaner bike while we wait for the special order. Everyone was friendly and made me feel I should have bought MY bike from here. I had an exceptional experience here buying my first road bike. I'm a woman, I love cycling and do a lot of it but haven't developed a lot of technical knowledge. I had finally decided to save up for a carbon frame bike. It was hard to get warm customer service from other bike shops and I was hoping to be able to ask lots of questions. From the first phone call with Greg this place set themselves apart. This shop (and pretty much all the others I have seen) was staffed entirely by men, and over a few visits I dealt with 4 different staff members. ALL had a really welcoming attitude and are just so passionate about cycling that they seemed as excited as I was about my purchase. Beyond their work experience most had set up their girlfriends for bikes so had some insight into issues that I might encounter particular to female riders. They readily offered a great deal on a beautiful bike (at least 20% off) and gave me discounts on accessories quite spontaneously--no pressure and no haggling needed. Definitely where I will go from now on for advice, maintenance and further purchases. read more

In a Nutshell.......SUPERLATIVE customer service! I initially contacted Matt at Beaches Cycle Solutions whilst looking for a new mountain bike on-line. I had my credit card in hand to make the purchase when I expressed some misgivings about my choice. Matt listened to my concerns about having health issues that impact my riding ability and style. He researched and brainstormed to come up with the best solution to suit my specific needs. It wasn't about the sale, it was about keeping a fellow cyclist riding to the best of her ability. Seeing that I live in BC, it would have been easy to just sell me the initial bike and move on to the next sale. The bike I bought was not only the best option for me, but I also received EXTREMELY competitive pricing. The exemplary customer service continued when I had a warranty issue with my bike. I had contacted the bike company directly when I first realized a problem with my frame but the bike company refused to accept responsibility. I was heading out on a bike vacation within two weeks without a bike I could safely ride. I then contacted Cycle Solutions, and Matt guaranteed me that I would have a bike for my trip. Even though the bike shop is across the country from where I reside, he ensured that the Bike company warrantied the frame, and he organized the bike build with my local bike shop. Rented bikes here and asked for info on a bike to purchase. My husband and I were both looking to purchase new bikes. The employee I dealt with was condescending and had an attitude. I felt like helping me was the last thing he wanted to do. I had my two year old with me and had to load both rental bikes into my vehicle. He grudgingly gave me assistance only after I asked. We went to a different bike shop to purchase our bikes instead. read more

Had an unplanned visit when my gear cassette broke down. I managed to quickly get assistance by the staff and have my issue fixed in less than 15 minutes. You can tell the guys at the shop care about bikes and are extremely knowledgeable. Didn't have my wallet either but fortunately they accept Apple Pay. Great store! read more

I stopped in to pick up some brake pads and a bleed kit a few weeks ago. The staff member was helpful enough and found the brake pads I needed in their basement stores. No bleed kits in stock, but that was no biggie. I asked the staff member if he could offer any tips when changing out the brake pads. He in turn asked if I'd ever done it before. When I replied "no", he told me that my best bet would be to bring my bike in to them to fix for me as it's a bit of a tricky job and I suppose he figured I wouldn't be up for it. I am a woman, and can't help but wonder if he would have told a man the very same thing - it sure didn't make me feel as though I'd come to a very inclusive shop. I thanked him for the "tip", bought the brake pads, and drove up to Cyclepath on the Danforth. The bike tech there showed me the bleed kits available, and when I asked the same question of him about offering any advice, he simply recommended that I watch some YouTube videos before starting in on it as Avid brakes can be a bit fiddly. That's pretty much what I was expecting! My bike is running great with new brake pads and brake lines that have been bled. Finishing the job was very satisfying, maybe more so after being doubted by Cycle Solutions guy. I will not be going back to Cycle Solutions, though it is my LBS. Great for tune-ups - DO NOT buy a bike from this store. I've trusted these guys for over 8 years to take care of my various bikes but, after buying a bike from them in 2014, I suggest looking elsewhere to make a purchase. I had a minor frame issue since Day 1 and have experienced nothing short of a Monty Python Parrot Sketch level of service since. In the last 10 months, I have been in multiple times, had them take photos of my bike, left multiple messages for their warranty guy and sent a number of emails - I have yet to get a single response despite being told each time that the issue would be dealt with the following week. If you want to get a solid tune-up or repair, go here. If you want to buy a bike, I suggest Duke's, Cycle Motive, Sweet Pete's or Urbane Cycle, not here. read more

this place is hit or miss. i get that running a bike shop can be a tough business, labour intensive, low margins. but that shouldn't excuse good customer service. i came in looking for a small but necessary part for my bike build. of course, as for many things, i could have ordered the part online. but i chose to support the LBS. the staff not only tried to talk me out of the specific part i was looking for, they couldn't give me a price. not even a range. they should have saved us both the trouble and not even bothered outright - should have just told me that they are refusing service to customers. a shame since they are one of only a handful decent (by inventory/stock) bike shops in the east/beaches. read more
