I was hoping I would find a suburban area YMCA in Houston similar to the one I went to when I lived…read morein the Dallas area and this Monty Ballard YMCA fits just the bill. This Katy Cinco Ranch location is very family oriented and has plenty of space & equipment. I have yet to have any issues with waiting to use equipment even when it is busier. You will find a surplus of treadmills, free weights, squat racks, benches, and more for all your exercise needs. There is also a child care area available for the younger ones. In addition, they also have a gymnasium with multiple side rims, as well as both an indoor and outdoor pool. Other areas available include a stretch room, cycling room, group exercise room, and another smaller weight room. They have plenty of locker/storage space as well, located is some weight rooms, outside the restroom/pool area, and inside the restrooms as well (the ones in the restroom require your own lock). One of the things I love most is they have a water fountain with a filtered water bottle filler so I can bring my empty water bottle from home and fill it with water at the Y for my workout. Another thing I appreciate are the several sanitizing stations for your hands and for wiping down equipment. Overall I'm extremely happy with this Y. The staff are very friendly, they have plenty of parking and allow 3 free guest passes per year (my previous Y made you pay for all guest passes). The only slight negative I've found so far is that they don't provide basketballs for the gymnasium due to people not returning them, which is understandable. Thus, I highly recommend this YMCA!

I used to only sing uptempo tracks, but since visiting this Y, I've been singing Ballards too…read more It's a clean YMCA and the front desk could definitely be a lot friendlier, which is part of the reason I don't give them 5. They don't have as much equipment as the other one in Katy, but it's not bad and it's somewhat similar, and might even be a 5 star if the greeting staff had been friendlier. It's often quite quiet in here which I like, and which you wouldn't expect considering a lot of fairly well-to-do people live around here and Cinco Ranch isn't flush with gyms (or flushing toilets) (OK it probably is). It has plenty of space and is a pretty good gym all things considered, and I'll probably be using it again in the near future. The hard part is getting in the door, of course. I'd like to try door number one, Monty.

This gym has truly become my second home and a haven for me this past year - let me tell you why…read more 1- From the get go, this place is BY FAR the CLEANEST gym that I have ever encountered amongst all the other gym chains + even other anytime fitness locations. The staff and owner are constantly making sure equipment is clean and reset for your needs. You walk in and the equipment/facility feels so well maintained and clean. 2- There's so much thought put behind making sure their customers have all their needs met. There's complimentary towels 24/7 both to clean equipment after using as well as for you to use during your workout. Also, there's a mini fridge full of cold peppermint towels to cool you down after a rough workout (which I thought was SO sweet and thoughtful- can you find this at any other gym?!). During staffed hours- all staff I have met have been so friendly and welcoming- which truly made me feel at home. 3- The community at this gym. Due to this being a smaller gym- you tend to see the same faces which in a way, makes the gym feel like a safe and tight knit community. The people here have also never hesitated to help me or others out (especially because I'm new to this whole gym world). The people here really do look after each other. 4- Lastly the personal training offered here is much more affordable than other places AND it has changed both my body and my life. My trainer Tiran has taught me SO MUCH about the world of fitness, exercises, and nutrition. He meets me where I am and also pushes me to my limits so I can get solid workouts in. Can't emphasize enough how awesome the trainers here are. TLDR: I really love this place and recommend it to everyone out there... but especially for those who want to be a part of a gym that truly values each and every member (which I feel like is lost/absent with bigger gyms like 24hr fitness and LA Fitness).

If you're looking for a gym that has completely redefined the phrase "standards have dropped," this…read moreis the place. Since the change in management, it seems the goal is to pack as many people in as possible, regardless of gym etiquette. Flip-flops and slides have apparently replaced workout shoes, sagging pants seem to be the unofficial dress code, and deodorant has become an optional accessory. Nothing says "fitness motivation" quite like dodging body odor while trying not to get an unintended view of someone's backside. As for management? The manager appears to have mastered the art of staying comfortably hidden in the office while the gym floor runs itself. If the objective was to create a "do whatever you want" atmosphere, mission accomplished. It's a shame, because this used to be a great gym. These days, quantity seems to matter far more than quality. Indeed, they should rename it "Anytime... Anything Goes Fitness."
