Sona Fitness is amazing! When I joined, a little over a year ago, I was dealing with significant…read moreback pain that stopped me from working out and staying in shape. Kenna and Chris have been amazing at customizing my training schedule to not only address the pain but also turned working out into fun. Quite frankly none of the previous PT sessions I've taken come close to the health benefits I got from my sessions at Sona. Kenna and Dylan, the owners, have created a welcoming and inclusive space which I highly recommend to anyone starting their fitness journey.

In the past year, I have not only survived a global pandemic, but have also turned 40. The only…read morepositive thing to happen in that year (truly) was working out with Kenna. After years of hip and knee pain, I was told that I have a torn labrum in my hip and lots of lost cartilage in my knee. My only options were a barely helpful surgery or intense focus on building my strength. I reached out to Kenna and she took on my case with gusto. When I say that Kenna (and Sona) changed my life this is not an understatement. Kenna helped me to zero in on the small ways my body was out of alignment and correct the HUGE effects of these misalignments. I have been working out with Kenna for a year and I am now totally pain free and happily returning to endurance sports! Beyond that, I am in the best shape of my life (and I have always been an athlete). Given the pandemic, Kenna and I worked together virtually. I was BLOWN AWAY by her ability to see tiny muscle movements over the screen and to give me exactly the right prompts to correct my posture and alignment. 18 months ago, I was told by medical doctors that I would have to limit my activity and just accept that pain was my new reality. I am now blissfully pain free and ready to remain just as active for the next 40 years. THANK YOU KENNA!

It's been many years since I last came here so I was surprised to see not much has changed. I came…read morefor a cycle and yoga class. That instructor had my limbs burning by the end so the yoga was a nice cool down. They provided the mats and weights etc. The facility itself is fine. There are saunas in the locker room. Women have a dedicated space to stretch or use medicine balls. The water fountain could use an upgrade though.

I've been going to the Fitness Club in MGPD for many years. It is a great place in my neighborhood…read morewith family atmosphere, clean and cozy. A few years ago fitness club was "remodeled" (a.k.a. made cheaper and less functional, yet, more pretentious), and little by little, the life-long clients started to leave. Pros: 1. It is a clean and quiet place for basic exercises (with limited number of clients, it is not too hard to keep it clean); 2. Spacious and clean women' locker rooms (lockers are, at least, 2 times bigger than La Fitness and Niles Park District); 3. Friendly and accommodating staff; 4. Locks are provided; 5. Clients are mostly seniors, very friendly and chatty. Cons: 1. "Remodeled" lockers are positioned too high for average woman to use entirely; 2. Maintenance is very slow; when things are broken, it takes weeks to fix them; 3. Due to "remodeling", the women bathrooms are now located in the MIDDLE of women locker room, completely denying any privacy. 4. Fitness club is overpriced for the number of features it is capable to provide (wait until summer season to join for 3 months, for lower price); 5. And, the major reason why I, finally, decided to stop going there: After the "great remodeling", the A/C keeps breaking down several times per year. It is bad enough that the gym is getting overheated during summer days, but the worse is that women locker room, including shower stalls, is 5 to 8 degrees COOLER than gym, all year around!

I was pulling up to Shred415 one day when I noticed Sweatshack a few doors down. I asked the front…read moredesk staff if they knew anything about it and they said Jordan Shackelford (the owner) had opened it up as a personal training studio. I checked out their website and was super excited to see that some of my favorite shred instructors (Jordan, Meg, Jenny and Courtney to name a few) were now available for personal training sessions. And it was so easy to book- right thru the mind body app. I booked a session with Jenny since I always like her Shred classes since she's very clear on exactly what you're doing next. And when you're about to run up a hill I personally want to know ahead of time! She was just as good of a trainer and we did a 45 minute circuit focusing on the entire body with some bursts of cardio. It was challenging, but doable...and I was shaking from the workout 30 minutes after I left. I workout a lot and can't remember the last time that happened! They also offer pilates sessions, which I may try at some point. I'm on a lagree kick right now because I was finding pilates to be a little slow, but have a feeling that won't be the case with their trainers. The pricing is a little expensive compared to what I've seen. For 45 minutes it was $110, but you can also book a 2 on 1 training session for $90 or a 3 on 1 session for $75. My friend and I booked a future session with Jenny, but if you don't have someone to go with you can book the 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 option...and someone else can sign up at the same time. And if you buy a package of 10 thru the mindbody app it's $50 off, which i'll likely do after i give it a few more tries and decide it's something I"d like to invest in. I'm hoping the have other good deals on packages like they offered at Shred415. I look forward to getting my butt kicked here by Jenny and/or the other trainers here soon!
