I first got to know about Dr Cynthia through Yelp and Google reviews and post consulting neighborhood nextdoor app. Dr Cynthia is very patient in understanding the dental concerns and suggests doctors to consult in case there is a complicated case. She also does provide different sets of treatment options to choose from. She's up to date with latest technologies in dental industry and is an Invisalign expert. Bait and switch treatment with the care and billing. Insisted on expensive X-rays, kept me waiting nearly two hours that left me sick for two days after having something toxic sprayed in my mouth and down throat. Horribly expensive, for this lousy level of care. 485.00 for X-rays and consult which ended up being to tell me to have a tooth pulled. When I scheduled that, this office refused to share my X-rays which is a common courtesy. I had the surgeon call them again and insist . They relented but said they would not recommend my surgeon. I assume bc there'd be no kickbacks. They wanted me to go to their referral I guess. So much wrong with my experience so caveat emptor. From the moment I called to schedule an appointment to the moment I walked out of that door the whole experience was just nothing but wonderful. From the warm greeting, calming ambiance of the office, welcoming personnel, x-rays that are taken so fast that you barely notice to educational and thorough examination, I just can't rave enough about them all. This office has way too much turnover in staff. Both the office staff and hygienist staff have changed almost every time I visit. Just when you get used to a hygienist or a staff member, they are gone when you go back. Also they are no longer a delta dentist provider. To me it says a lot about a dentist office if the staff doesn't stay long. I know of other dental offices that have had the same staff for decades. Dr Stephenson is a very good dentist but is often absent from the practice. She seems to be taking a step back and it is taking its toll on this office in my opinion. I had another new hygienist clean my teeth this last visit and it was very painful and very rushed. I am now looking for a new dentist unfortunately. read more

When I was looking for a new dentist I did a google search to find a dentist that was close to home and had good office hours. I came across Dr. Stephenson's website and watched the quick video. I was impressed that the focus was on providing quality care and gaining the trust of the patient. There are lots of dentists out there that can provide great quality work but if they are not genuine and sincerely care about your well being, then they are not doing their best. I had my first patient visit and it was so thorough. I have never had a dentist explain in such detail the mechanics of what was going on with my teeth and what was working and not working to the level that she did. She was all about educating me as a patient and wanted me to understand. She seems to have a genuine concern for the quality of her work and the dental work lasting decades not years. Wasn't happy with the quantity of care that I got, every time I come in there's a front desk person or a new person cleaning my teeth, I saw her associate who cemented my crown wrong then it came off so I had come back the next day which took 2 hours, can't tell you the last time I even saw Cynthia for exam, on top it I get a call saying I owed a bill when it turns out they never even billed my other insurance. But over time with the way starburst, teeth and a lack of professional cleaning work I found myself in searching for a dentist I could trust to not hurt me and to advocate for my best interest. This is way over do. I saw this dds online with good and bad reviews. I should have paid more attention to the bad ones. My first visit was good and I thought I found a new dds. Unfortunately I started having pain from the procedure and was getting worse. So I went for another appointment. This is when things changed I was first told the pain was coming from a different tooth not the one I had an expensive "onlay" not crown she said it is better and my tooth would look like new and would not be able to see anything. I agreed and initially was excited. I asked if my tooth could whiten to match the onlay she said it was fine and you could not see anything. I asked for the camera to see up close was told we don't have that to expensive (every dentist in the past did this automatically). I went back several times complaining about the pain and again was told oh that tooth is fine your pain is coming from a different tooth. The tipping point came when she said "I need to talk to you my staff says you are treating them badly " complaining about my tooth which I only saw one other person to check for the pain. Talk about never have had this experience before I was shocked ~ she attempted to talk down and treat me like a 10yr old. I will never go there again and suggest you do not either! She acted as she was some strict school teacher appalling and ridiculous. read more

I'm sad to write this review, as I went to Dr. Stephenson for 7 years. However, I really noticed a change in the office and the service, especially in the past couple of years. Over the years, I started getting more and more pressure to make cosmetic fixes. For example, despite the fact that I repeatedly told Dr. Stephenson at every appt that I did not want caps on my front teeth, she continued to push it at every appt. In addition, on two separate occasions I was told that things were covered by my insurance, only to find out that they were not. When I asked about it, I was told, "We have 5,000 patients, we can't possibly keep the insurance coverage straight for all of them." So why even offer to call my insurance to verify coverage? And thanks for making me feel like just another number. Now that I have switched dentists, it's become even more obvious. My new dentist found a hole in one of my teeth that Dr. Stephenson's office completely missed. And at my last appt with Dr. Stephenson's office, I saw Dr. Dije (who was super nice and very thorough) who found a cavity in a filling that Stephenson replaced two years ago. Now my new dentist needs to go back and fix Stephenson's work. read more

Hands down, Dr. Stephenson and her team of dental hygienists and front office staff are absolutely the best! Like most people, I dread going to the dentist. It's rarely a comfortable experience nor good news. However, I've been incredibly impressed with Dr. Stephenson and going to the dentist is now a much better experience. Not only is Dr. Stephenson a highly skilled and proficient dentist but she is extremely compassionate and empathetic and it consistently shows through all her actions! It's clear she cares about your overall health; has no interest in up-selling services/procedures; takes the time to provide details of any procedure needed; and following any procedure of significance, she also consistently follows up later that evening to ensure all is well. ...and it's the little things that make a HUGE difference... Dr. Stephenson's compassion is reflected when it comes to that dreaded syringe needle. I've had so many dentists say "you're going to feel a pinch" as they jam the needle into my gum and are more interested in shaving seconds on their schedule than my personal comfort. Not so with Dr. Stephenson! When it comes to finesse with a syringe, there's no one better! - I rarely can feel any discomfort at all. Why? Again, it's her compassion for her patients and willingness to spend an extra couple of ticks on the clock to make the process pain free and her patients more comfortable. Dr. Stephenson actually has patients that make an appointment with her in advance of an appointment with an Oral Surgeon, Endodontist, etc. just to have her apply the novocaine - now that's telling. One final example her amazing care... as I was going through an implant process for a front prominent tooth, I was toothless for months during the healing process. Most dentists would simply have provided a "flipper" tooth as the temporary solution (which would have had to be removed during all meals - awkward and embarrassing). However, given the prominence of the missing tooth Dr. Stevenson fashioned an identical replacement tooth and crafted a means to secure it from behind so it was unnoticeable nor had to be removed. She's simply the best! read more

I was so happy to find Dr Stephenson restarted her practice in Walnut Creek after leaving SF ~ 1 year ago. Although I still live in SF, I will gladly make the commute to WC to see her. Dr Stephenson truly cares about her individual patients' dental and overall physical health. I was a patient of hers in SF for about 5 years. She helped get my teeth back to a healthy place after seven years of poor dental hygiene and care. Throughout the process, she took the time to educate and explain all of my options clearly.
