I've been seeing Dr. Ewing since June 2025 for extensive implant dental work. I was extremely nervous about dental work due to years of lack of care (kids first), botched work and feeling like my mouth is like a patchwork quilt. For all I know, the dentists/hygienists/technicians this practice are fabulous. However, the business office is terrible, incompetent and hurtful. I manage my parent's trust for one of my siblings. The trust sent a check for $30,000 a couple of weeks ahead of my sibling's procedure. They deposit the check a week and a half prior to the procedure which was fine. The bank doesn't immediately cash it because it is more than $10,000. The bank calls me, we work it out, and the bank will cash the check the next day. The Smile Makers' admins were all in a tizzy about the check, so I told them that the bank was going to cash the check the next day. Smile Makers' admins did not believe me which would have been fine if they had waited a bit. After all, it was more than a week until the procedure was scheduled. The bank cashes the check, and it clears on Monday, a week prior to the procedure. I would have thought this was a good situation. They get an extra week's interest on $30,000. Recall: the admins didn't believe that the bank would cash the check because the check didn't go thru the first time, so they try to cash the check after it has cleared. I have no idea why they didn't check their bank account. They try to cash the already cashed check at least 3 times over the next 3 days. Of course, they were not able to do so as they already have the money. On Tuesday, I miss a morning of work so that I can deal with the bank. Bank tells me the check has cleared. I call the dentist and say the check has cleared. Instead of checking their bank account, they torment my sibling, when they know that I am the one handling the money, threatening my sibling with additional fees, which sibling cannot afford, and with not doing the procedure. For 3 days after they have the money, they torment my sibling until sibling was hysterical. They don't stop until I send them a screenshot of the trust's bank account showing that the check cleared on Monday. I don't know why they didn't check their own account. It seems like the first thing to do when a client tells you that the bank said the check had cleared, but, no, instead they continued the abusive behavior with my sibling. It was an awful, awful experience. read more

I'm totally not sure where to start, so let me begin here...They are an amazing team! From the front office to the back, they all care about, YOU! The admin team (Judy) really assisted with my FMLA documents/EDD papers and got them back to me in a timely manner for the time that I needed to properly heal without worry or stress. The texting communication system is amazing. When you text them they get right back to you. I texted them over the weekend with a non emergency issue and Monday morning they were texting me right back with an appointment the same day just to make sure I was okay after post op. The team is very welcoming, warm and friendly and very on point with your care. Love them truly! Now, about Dr. Ewing. Where should I began. The first time I met him, I felt like this was the place to be. You see, it all begins with your front office staff and since they were amazing I knew he had to be as well. When you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome the minute you step through the door. Dr Ewing asked me about me and what did I want. What was I looking to accomplish? After a few minutes of our meet and greet conversation, I left there feeling hopeful. He even allowed me to have my husband on FaceTime while he was at work just so he wouldn't miss the conversation. He also assured me that if I had any questions I could call and or set up another appointment to come in and have another conversation with him. I took him up on that offer and brought my husband with me on the next visit. During the second meeting with him, he was very thorough about the procedure and very patient. After agreeing to go ahead with the procedure we proceeded to put things in order such as Fmla and EDD documents for my time off work that I needed for myself to give myself time to heal properly and without stress. Judy was on point, very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help get my papers back on time to be filed. Now although I don't know everyone's names, I have met them all and if I tell you, how amazing they are, BELIEVE ME! The day of my procedure, although I don't remember too much, it seemed as if every team member was right there with me. I felt that I was the important one. In all my phobia, anxiety, worry and anything else you could think of, I actually felt that everything was okay and I was in good hands. THANK YOU DR EWING for making me feel safe. I am now 20 days post op, feeling amazing and trying to get use to the new smile. Trying to get use to not covering my smile or laughing with my head down. I feel great! No, it's not a walk in the park, with yellow daisy's fluttering through the breeze on a cool sunny day and the wind whipping through your hair, but for me nothing is ever easy. I will say however, this entire team is the best dentistry I have ever encountered... EVER. I have been to many places, some good some really bad, some mean and sometimes even hurtful. Not Smile Makers, they are the best ever. I am very afraid of dentist and have been since the age of 16. My hereditary journey was a long one. Although I still have my fears of dentistry and PAIN, Smile Makers, Dr Ewing has made me feel just a little bit more comfortable and at ease. BE AWARE!!! Update from what I thought was a great experience that actually has turned into a frustrating nightmare. At the time of my visit, my insurance was ran and I was given a bill for all work to be done on 11/8, 11/9 and 11/17 (exam, cleaning, fillings, x-rays, deep cleaning) that totaled $441. This was written on a piece of paper with all of the procedures on it and it included $100 referral credit so I paid IN FULL $341. Fast forward 2.5 months, I receive a statement in the mail telling me I owe an additional $600 and I am 2 months past due. I was advised they were in-network with my PPO plan (they were not). I was told after each visit on 11/9 and 11/17 that nothing else was needed because I had paid in full. Why wait 2+ months to send me a bill? Why didn't they call to tell me they messed up and that my insurance wasn't covered for their office visit? Because they messed up on their end want me to pay for it. If they told me on the date of my first visit that my total amount would be $1000, I would have 100% left and found a dentist who was in my network. They should be the ones to cover any outstanding debt because this is their mistake, not mine. I will never go here again and I will never recommend this place to anyone else. I am so thankful we found Smile Makers Dental Care! My little one had his first cavity and we weren't sure where to go. Rebecca greeted us at the front with a smile and took care of us from the moment we walked in. Dr. Ewing and his staff made him feel so comfortable and eased all of his nerves and worries. What we thought was a cavity turned into a root canal and needing a crown, and the Dr did everything to make the experience enjoyable. When he needed him to scoot up, he had him pretend he was climbing which I thought was so clever. The whole process was painless and so easy! We even ended with a smile and no tears! I had an appointment with a smile makers dental care and it was at 3:30 pm. I got there on time filled up some paper with some questions. They took in and took 3D scan and set me on a chair for 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting for mister Gavin to show up. During this time his assistant asked me a couple of questions about my self, then she start to talk about her life story with details. She talked about her self more than asked me questions about my teeth. It was a lot of talking and mister Gavin still did not show up. Total time was 1hour and 16 minutes and still waiting. His assistant kept saying let me see where the man of interest is, and coming back saying he is coming. Its very frustrating to be waiting for a such long time. I got up and I walked out. The office of this place terrible and not organized. Very disrespectful to see that Dr. Gavin is sitting not doing a thing and his patient is waiting for him to show up for 1hour and 16 min exactly. I just want to say " What???" Where do all the good reviews coming from? I had my last visit with Dr.Ewing 2 days ago, and he certainly knows about all the works with teeth with no problems. I was concern about the insurance so I asked the front desk if it's ok they give me a cheaper price so I could afford it. They said: ok, let's talk about that but since it is your first visit, we might need a full x-ray to check what is the condition. From all the above, very reasonable. Then they give me an estimate for all the services and I say I will think about it. Before I leave, I ask them if it's ok I have my x-ray. The front desk says of course I will send it over today with a smiling face. What suck is coming: 1.Today I suddenly received a message from the front desk that says the x-ray is not "giving since it is a discounted price." SO. WHAT AM I PAYING FOR? I think I am reasonable. Everyone will think about it since the estimate is around 3000 dollars for taking down wisdom teethes all out of pocket. The COURTESY for you is telling the customer: " ok, we will give you the discount price but will not give you an x-ray, would you accept it?" BEFOREHAND. NOT ATFER! 2.The front desk knows that I will be on the international flight to JP on December 18, and the surgery is only available on December 17th. Dr. Ewing and staff have been wonderful. I have been really scared of the dentist since having a traumatic experience elsewhere years ago and I kept looking online for a place with good reviews. I finally stumbled upon smile makers. I was really nervous at first but Dr. Ewing never made me feel bad for the work that needed to be done. He said most importantly I needed to work on a tooth that was most likely going to be a root canal. I was absolutely terrified because last time that's what my traumatic experience involved. He said he would try his hardest to see if we are able to just get away with a filling. The day of the procedure came and he numbed me up which by the way he was very gentle and I barely felt a thing when he did it. He was very thorough and he was able to do a filling and place a crown I was so relieved I could have cried. Two weeks have came and gone and only minor aching the first two days and it was gone. Yesterday I got my permanent crown placed and honestly it feels totally normal today. I will update you if anything changes but so far so good. I had a set of dentures made at a cost of $4,400.00. They were so big they had to make another set. I wore the new set for approx. 5 months when a tooth fell out of the top plate whilte eating a pancake. I paid an additional $600.00 for a tooth replacement. Then, the dentures were lost/misplaced for 5 weeks. Good thing I kept my old set which are 28 years old, just with worn teeth. Now the same tooth has fallen out again. I am NOT going to pay another $600.00 for the same tooth to be fixed. I am writing this in the hopes that the office will contact me and resolve this problem. My family has been going here since Dr.Brown was the dentist - 30 years maybe ? and then he retired a long time ago but here I am calling 18 years later after developing this unfounded anxiety about the dentist. At 40 years old I haven't experienced pain but noticed I passed this anxiety to my 7 year old son. I also acknowledged I need to take care of my teeth before I am forced to decided between dentures or implants. I called the office and Judy remembered me! How do you remember me after 18 years !!!! Judy is sweet and just as beautiful as 18 years ago. This woman didn't age but the office still looked a little familiar although I could tell that carpet paint ect had changed. I was SO embarrassed to go back but the staff was so sweet and didn't make me feel bad. I came out with a cleaning, 3 cavities and a serious conversation about gum disease. My anxiety was way through the roof and embarrassment about the same but this teams bedside manner was beyond amazing. The Dr.Dentist I couldn't hear his name because he was talking to me. I had stars in my eyes and was listening carefully to if I was going to lose all my teeth or not. I was distracted! THEN I met Linda. She is an angel with the water pick drill as her weapon of tarter destruction! Linda is so sweet and doesn't make you feel like your being a diva but invites you to tell her if youre uncomfortable. When I met Linda I apologized she was assigned to me but I know why now, nothing she did hurt. As Im drooling spit, numbing medicine, she can already tell where to put the sucker thing to make it less uncomfortable and told me she could stop anytime or I can spit anytime. I know she really meant it and was not just saying it. Seriously Linda I am obsessed with now and don't want anyone else near my teeth. To top it off, after I left I was a little overwhelmed with the rush of anxiety, everything being ok, the fact I actually saw the dentist and numbing medicine in my mouth, I wanted to go home immediately. What did I get as I left ?! A brand new beautiful electric tooth brush - a nice expensive one ! They hand these out as a thank you to new patient ! I came in here for a cleaning and I got Dom for my cleaning. Let me tell you why he is the best. My teeth are extremely sensitive from being a smoker for decades. The amount of care and calm he instilled in me that everything was going to be fine was phenomenal. I hadn't gotten my teeth checked In years. The amount of plaque build up was intense.
