I had been to Hudson and Essex already with my fiancé so we decided to give Cypress Cellars a try. We actually enjoyed our experience here even better! We are huge wine lovers, so the flight options for us were a big win! While not all their wines were the best, they still had some good options and the flight itself was presented well and a fun option. We learned from the upstairs restaurant that tapas are the way to go here. They constantly seem to be changing their menu so we tried all new things and loved everything. I'm not a huge seafood fan and even the lobster mac was tasty. The atmosphere in the cellar is really great and they had live music which is always a bonus! We will definitely be coming back and recommending it to others as well!

New location under the Hudson & Essex restaurant! There's a bar to the left and couches by the electric fire in the wall to the right.

This place has a very nice relaxed atmosphere during the weekdays, and on weekends they have live music and it gets very busy! The staff are all very friendly and professional. There's a decent variety of wines and drafts to try, and they have continued their flights of wine from their previous location. The food is limited to the small plates and flatbread also served upstairs in the restaurant, but the small plate prices are decent and all the food we tried was very very good! Would highly recommend the Mac and cheese or the Brussel sprout salad. If you like sweet wine, try their blueberry, it's sweet and a little tart. Their peach is also a gentle sweet :) Great for a night out with friends!

Enjoying a glass of Malbec at Cypress Cellars.

No matter where we travel we always try to find a local winery. This past weekend we were in central Ohio for a wedding and made a stop in Mansfield to see the Ohio State Reformatory and also discovered this cute winery in downtown Mansfield. Cypress Cellars is literally in the cellar below a restaurant. You can enter from the restaurant and head downstairs (which we did) or there is door from the parking lot in the back. It's not very large and almost half of their space is where the red wine is made, but it is comfortable and I didn't feel like I was in a cellar. We arrived around 4:30pm on Friday. We were the only ones there for a little bit until a large 6 party group showed up. Our server was very nice and explained the history about the winery and very knowledgeable about the wines they make. We opted to go with just a glass a wine each vs. a tasting. I had the Malbac, which was very good with tastes of black fruit, coffee, and chocolate flavors. D had the Petit Sirah and gave it 2 thumbs up. I purchased a bottle of the Malbac and look forward to serving it to my friends.

They were going to have live music as well as a food truck in the evening but we had other plans. The winery offered samples for $1. Most of our group chose 4-6 wines to try so our table looked a bit crazy with all the glasses. The one downside was that the employee who helped us was relatively new and had us do our tastings from sweet to dry, instead of dry to sweet. She did say that she was trained this way but it threw me off. Luckily, the owner came in and we were able to ask some questions. When I questioned the thought process of going from sweet to dry - he quickly corrected our remaining samples and made a note to do some retraining. I enjoyed that this was a family owned winery. Even the kids were studying subjects in college to allow them to be part of the business as well. I loved the theme of time. Our group ended up leaving with several bottles and I would definitely recommend this winery to others.

They do have food trucks at times. Still, a couple more food choices wood be nice. Maybe some different chips and dips, veggie trays or flatbreads. Has a large upper room for special events, and a small patio but plenty of green space with tables, great for entertainment with a wooded area that has a fire pit. Just maybe a few more fire pits for the colder evenings.

The owner, Brittni, features local artists work as well as her own inside the winery and for an awesome twist on branding, she's labeled each wine selection with her own artwork and named each wine after one of her paintings. The charcuterie boards are delicious and sourced from other local small businesses and the owner regularly has amazing food truck vendors featured at her location. If that's not enough for you, the owner has incorporated all sorts of fun classes and workshops within her business model such as paint and sip, making candela out of old wine bottles, yoga and exercise classes, and monthly bingo as well as ensuring she has local musicians regularly booked on the weekends. I suggest checking out her website for future events, I know I keep my eye on what she's got going on. And I couldn't possibly forget to mention her sweet pup Jax that's often scouring the floor for snacks or snoozing in the corner. The service is amazing, the wine is to die for, the ambiance is spectacular, and it's clear that Brittni has poured her heart and soul into Cote Winery, quite literally. As a regular customer, I can honestly say that Mt. Gilead is lucky to have Cote Winery as an addition to the local wineries surrounding Ohio.
