Our family of 5 had one of the best meals we've ever had here. We went here right after getting off the plane and it was a perfect way to start the vacation. The place was hopping with super fun music and a local cat that visited if you wanted it to. The dining is outside but covered - really cool and eclectic atmosphere. The best part by far was the food. We got the conch sandwich, wings, fritters, tacos, jerk chicken and shrimp skewers. The menu was super comprehensive with salads, local favs, seafood, pasta, classic Mexican, Czech and much more. The service was lovely with upbeat and playful staff. We would highly recommend! I hate to say it, but this place has changed. It is not like it has been in years past. Maybe it was because the owner was not on site... The quality of the food was not the same (jaeger schnitzel), and the wait staff was very slow and kind of aloof. Have been coming here for over five years, and it just was a surprise with what we experienced. If you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worse part of town, in a place with bars on the windows and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, then this is isn't it. This is something more than a little more out of the way. Fact is most of us don't mind going out of our way to eat something special. A little out of the way, but not maybe not all the way to an island to eat barbecue in a glorified shack by the side of the road where the waiter, the bartender, the chef, the owner are all same guy everyone calls Crazy George... George comes across as crazy on steroids. On the Brown Shoe Gourmet's visit he was running around shouting, "cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger." Finally, some guy at the six seat bar shouts out, "OK, OK, I'll have a cheeseburger if you'll just stop shouting." To which Crazy George replies, matter of factly, "no cheeseburgers today." George Zittenbart was the top chef in Southeast Asia for the Four Seasons group when he visited Grand Cayman with his girlfriend. They liked Grand Cayman so much they never left. They liked each other so much they got married. George liked the food business so much he opened The Czech Inn. The place itself is three-fourths ramshackle shack and one fourth open picnic area. Everything is cooked to order (usually by George ) and well worth the time you can spend looking for messages, initials, a thousand license plates (count them) from some places you've been, or if you're lucky, where you live, along with surf boards and ski poles... fact is, I doubt you can find two square inches free of someone who has been creative with a marker The Czech Inn has a varied menu including some homegrown creations, the best of which, is their pickle schnitzel sandwich. A giant of a sandwich with thin slices of pickle, mayo, cranberries and thin slices of schnitzel chicken on a bun that likely will prove to be one of the most memorable meals you enjoy while on Grand Cayman. As incongruous as it would seem to be The Czech Inn also offers barbecue. Not just barbecue, but your choice from three kinds of ribs: the plain ones we all enjoy (most of the time) back home, plus Hawaiian style ribs and Asian ribs. We tried the ribs from whence George came, the Asian ribs. Good. Very. With a thick dark sauce and closed out over the grill. As we said, good, but not on the same level as the Pickle Schnitzel (or is it Schnitzel Pickle) sandwich. By the way, Crazy George, has a commercial free music box that trends to not stop pop rock, as well as a ginger cat named Prince Harry (don't ask) who trends to full tables where food has been served and sits and waits - but not too long, before someone slips the Prince something from the table. Story is that the cat showed up sometime around the opening seven years ago and never left. Kids seem to love the interloper. . The Czech Inn for those who happen to be in, or about to be, Grand Cayman is unique with a great sandwich carefully hidden in plain sight on Crazy George's menu along island dishes, all sorts of fish, jerky and, if you insist, burgers. But no cheeseburgers; at least not today. Five stars for the guy and his joint who fell in love with the island, put down stakes and then created this you gotta-see-it-to-believe-it side of the road, ramshackle restaurant with great food. read more

Nice spot! It's a little drive from the 7 miles beach, but cool as hell! Good food and totally islandy atmosphere! We had mussels in broth - yummy! We had shrimp skewers - yummy! This is truly an island treasure--the bar area itself is unique and charming, with thousands of random pictures, trinkets, and other items littering the walls from people who have visited from thousands of places across the globe. Just a cool experience all around! Make sure to take a sharpie and write a message on the bar so you can be a part of the Czech's history, too! Food was excellent. We had the calamari, definitely recommended! Price was a little steep for a roadside bar, but otherwise decent. The lack of alcohol was surprising to us given the appearance of the restaurant itself. They were also out of a large portion of the menu, which was disappointing on a Saturday afternoon when we were the only people at the bar. Overall, a must-see for the Grand Cayman experience! We had a difficult time parking here on the west side parking lot, it was full even though most tables were empty. The menu is on the wall, not on a menu on the table, you have to awkwardly order while the bartender takes the order. We decided not to order. This place is strange, parking sucks. A truly disappointing experience. Service was dismally slow - we waited nearly 2 hours for our meals. The food was mediocre - the veal was dry - and the portions small - an order of calamari had about a dozen rings and was served room temperature. The restaurant manager said people were complaining all week about the food quality, over-cooked, under-cooked, etc. The manager said they were hiring local people and they don't want to work, and the owner isn't there as often as he once was. His lack of attention shows. The bill was reduced, but that was no gift, it was appropriate, but it doesn't buy a positive review. Not to write an honest review would be a disservice. Save yourself the long drive, there are plenty of fine restaurants on the island, this is no longer one. read more

Stopped here on our way to the East End after snorkeling at nearby Spott's Beach. It took a little longer than we thought it would so we ended up getting take-out as we were crunched for time. We enjoyed the local atmosphere and outdoor seating. We tried the frozen passion fruit smoothie which was good while it was cold (for less than 10 min) and then too sweet. The Hawaiian burger was huge although we found the meat overly ground-meat-e and not all that tender. The piping hot fries were delicious and perfectly crispy. We also tried the jerk pork with rice and beans which was da bomb. The spices were nice as was the tangy dipping sauce that it came with but would have either liked more for the rice and beans or a less of a dry rice-and-beans. Finally, we got a side of "fritters," basically fried dough but without the powdered sugar. For not having any sauce, syrup, or sugar, these were pretty good but not sure I'd order them again and my wife didn't like them. I was surprised this all came to about $50 as it's not very upscale food but then again everything on this island is pricey. This place has potential! It just needs better waitresses. The waitress had promised she had ranch for us upon ordering spicy wings. When we got the wings, we then were told they have no ranch and no dairy whatsoever. We were sweating so bad and my mother was panicking. The waitress laughed at us and said she couldn't do anything to help. She seemed to neglect our table as if our presence annoyed her. There was maybe three other groups there so it wasn't because she was busy. We want to go back to try other food but not if the waitress will have a bad attitude. Best food on the East End (and arguably) the entire island. I had the pork belly sandwich on the recommendation of a local and my girlfriend had the Hawaiian ribs. The meet was so tender it fell right off the bone and had phenomenal flavor. I'm the son of a butcher and I can confidently say it was one of (if not) the best ribs I've ever had. Things to note about the Czech Inn: there is a friendly cat named Lucy that runs the place, she came and sat down right on my girlfriends lap while we were eating and took an early afternoon snooze on her while she ate. Also, super SUPER important thing to note here: it's BYOB for beverages. Not to fear, there is liquor store literally a minute walk up the road where you can buy beer, ice, liquor, wine, etc etc and the folks at Czech Inn will put it in the fridge for you and give you a beer whenever you ask for one. Long story short: this is an absolute "must have" while you're in the Caymans. Great food, awesome service, very unique restaurant and so much character.
