Hired Derek to go look at an apartment i am moving into to see what needs to be done. He said the bathroom wall is full of mold and I wanted the one bedroom to have new flooring put down. He quoted me 500 but I offered to pay him 1000 to make sure everything was done correctly and ready for me to move in asap. I paid him immediately. This was november 8th. He then told me he has a spare pan to turn the tub into a walk in shower since im in a wheelchair and disabled so it would be easier. He said the back piece for the shower unit is around $300. I said ok and sent him the extra $300 immediately as well. He went in and tore down the entire bathtub wall and took the tub out. He then told me that the wood and the insulation needed to be replaced and said it will be an extra $710. So i sent that immediately as well. He never even went back to the house. He left it like that all torn up and a mess. He knew i needed it done by the 3rd of december. Now i am stuck not able to move and have to pay rent at two apartments til i can move. I also had a new person go see how much it will cost me to have them finish the work. They said derek had no reason to tear the entire wall down. And the part he had for the shower wasnt even the right size. Derek hadn't purchased any of the materials he asked for extra money for. I had also asked him to make 5 copies of the only key I had since he had the key to be able to get in. He told me that was about $26 so I sent him 30. I never saw one key. Not even my only copy of my key. He took over $2000 dollars from me and all he did is tear down a wall remove the tub and took the pipe out so now I have to hire a plumber as well to replace that and left a mess. He sprayed the mold. That is the only part he did that he was supposed to. Nothing else. Now it is costing me almost another $2000 to fix the mess that he made. I told Derek what the new guy said and Derek freaked out at me and then I asked for just half of my money back since he didn't do anything and didn't even buy any of the materials. He blocked me. I'm disabled and on dialysis and live off ssi. I can't afford this. He knew all of this and took advantage of me. I found out afterwards that he has done this to many many other people and has a long criminal history including fraud drugs and even strangled someone! Please don't anyone ever use him. He will come off as a nice guy and when I first met him when he came to hook up my gas stove he was a very nice guy. But I guess a short 10 15 minute interaction isn't enough to judge someone. Absolutely AWFUL!!!! I definitely do not recommend unless you want problems and lose your money. What a nightmare! I gave him over $11k and the work was done half-assed, shoddy, never showed up when he said he would. Even dropped by for an hour, and left, without getting anything done. Work was never completed in the 3week time frame he agreed to. His work was not good. I could've done better! Now nothing is done and I'm out of all that money, and still need to complete the job. He said he had a crew of some guys. One guy showed up to help, a few times. Never had a truck. Said it was in the shop. His gf would bring him to work and she would sleep in the car. Always high on something. Believe he was, as well. Showed me multiple licenses, doubt any of them are real. Said I didn't need permits. Said the steps he built are up to code. A 3" step is not up to code. Have to walk up sideways!! . Out of 4 others steps, each one is a different size, and on then there's a 13" drop off. One day he stopped coming. We ordered and paid for a man to come plow our driveway during the Blizzard last Saturday! We were told he would come Saturday evening and he never showed up than told Sunday and still never showed up than later that day no show up??? Worthless Service and they still have not reimbursed us! Not a dependable company if they cannot honor the commitment to do the job!!! and still more refund! should be taken to the Better Bureau!! I'd give 0 stars if possible. I hired Derek Bochese with D&E Home Improvements previously to do a fall yard cleanup. While he was not on time or communicative, he did eventually complete the work. He then asked me if he could store his trailer on my property in exchange for plowing for the upcoming winter season. I reluctantly agreed. On more than one occasion he said he "forgot completely" about my driveway and I had to contact him for plowing service. Most recently, he was hired to install a new bay window in my home. We agreed on a window and I paid him half of the amount for service. I then noticed he had took it upon himself to store a window in my garage, but it was not the window purchased. When I asked him about it, he said the window I bought had broken in transit and he brought a different one instead (that was not a bay window nor the correct size) with plans to replace it without my knowledge or consent. He then let me know he scheduled this work for a Tuesday morning. He did not show up or communicate changes, he did not show up or contact me Wednesday. At this point none of our agreed to terms had been met so I simply requested my contribution back and asked he pick up his window that he was storing on my property. He refused to give me my money back after countless attempts, and stopped plowing my driveway even though we had a prior agreement. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor and would not wish anyone else to get scammed by Derek. Do yourself a favor and hire a reputable contractor, not a handyman who jumps from state to state after extorting money from local people. read more

They were scheduled to plow my parents' driveway, Sunday AM. Came Saturday PM and texted asking for payment prior to starting the work. I did not see the text until later and so the driver left without doing any plowing. When I saw the text, I immediately sent the money and called. I was told they would return later over night (around 3:30 to 4:00 AM). When no one showed up by 8:30 AM Sunday, I called and reached voicemail. I left a message asking when the driveway would be plowed. By 10AM on Sunday, the driveway was still not plowed. I called and texted asking when they would get to do the driveway. Finally at 10:30 I called to inform him to cancel my request and refund my money. I then shoveled the driveway myself. I asked for a refund through Venmo. I have still not received a refund or a call. read more
