We decided to stop in on the way back to pick up bottled water and a couple other things for our hotel room. I stayed in the car while my husband did a quick run in and out. He reported that the store setup seemed weird to him and he spent a lot of time looking for the maple cookies. Cashier was friendly, he just thought the layout of the store was confusing. Hard to comment about the prices because of currency in Canadian and we are from US so everything seems so much cheaper. Posted sign says 2 - 24 pk water for $5. That would be $3.66 U.S. Dollar! Or $1.83 per 24 pls.

The peppers were much more expensive, as well as the tomatoes and whole chickens. The peppers were shriveled up and soft. Bananas are 1.49/lb which is ridiculous. And they are not even organic. I would never go out of my way to shop here like I would Gateway. The only thing I saw cheaper was re-frozen sandwich meats that looked like crap and bags of chips. VERY disappointing to say the least.

They are usually situated in smaller communities and are very convenient. The staff here are great and usually local, you will get to know them pretty quick. When you walk into the store, the first thing you notice is all the British imported food and snack items.. Reminds me a lot of my childhood and I usually buy something for nostalgia sake. Right beyond that is beverage display case with all sorts of drinks you'd rarely see elsewhere. I especially enjoy their local and import ginger beer selection, as well as Ribena. Beyond that the store is a mixture of exotic cheeses, excellent produce, a deli, health food aisles and the British butchery. This butchery is especially known for its Nova Scotia lamb, which is the best I've bought anywhere around here. The beef steaks are a close second. Needless to say, due to the nature of the products sold here, the prices are exorbitant.. I keep Pete's as a treat to go buy a few luxury food items if I haven't entirely blown my food budget for the month. If my budget hasn't been blown yet, it's sure to be so once I'm done at the Frootique. While many of the items are quite unique, there are many food items that are..items which can be purchased at your regular grocery store for half the price (ie. many of the dairy products). I also think the space the store occupies is much too small... you constantly feel like you're in a traffic jam trying to navigate the narrowly jam packed aisles, and always a hair breadth away from knocking things over.. the store is so cramped, I picture knocking something over as having a domino effect.. dropped a bag of chips?...there goes the whole aisle. The check out staff are fast, friendly and on the ball with keeping registers open. I don't necessarily see this as good customer service, though... since the store is so cramped, if long lines were to form then customers in line to pay would take up half the retail space (I've seen this happen here more than once). I definitely recommend this place, though, even if just to window shop. You might discover something new on every visit.

It was quite expensive for what it was. For two turkey sandwiches (with no side), a loaf of bread and two squares it was almost $50! The sandwiches were mediocre. The ingredients and bread were all fine - but that's it, just fine. Definitely not worth the price - it would have been $3-$4 cheaper to get a hamburger than it was a plain turkey sandwich. It was a hit and a miss - we'll keep going back for a sweet treat but in the nicest way possible you can get a much better and cheaper lunch elsewhere.
