Phil recently worked on 2 of my favorite strats. They both needed a fret-dress and set-up. Each axe now plays really well....and the frets look brand-new!!! I brought my dad's old guitar in to get a string fixed. I had not played the guitar in a decade so all of the strings were old and very used. He charged me $10 to replace 1 string AND I BROUGHT THE STRING which was one of my dad's. So I didn't even get any product from them!!! I only went to this shop because a friend had recommended it to me and I like to support small business. The next week I was in the area of Moe's Guitars in Hawthorne, which I had never been to, but I wandered in and asked how much it would have been to charge the string. He said that they would given me 6 new strings and would have restrung all of them for $15. So if you don't want to get ripped of, go to Moe's Guitars in Hawthorne instead. I am in the market for a new guitar and I clearly would have been overcharged at D'Angelo's. And now we are talking hundreds or thousands of dollars, not a fiver. Phil D'Angelo guitars in Fair Lawn NJ is exclusively the only guitar repair I take my guitars to. I live in Manhattan where there is a large choice guitar repairs but I only take my guitars to him. He did an amazing fret board fix to my original Brooklyn Gretsch White Falcon, the best set up ever for my 1977 D'Aquisto and I brought to him my "office" guitar, a Silvertone, that imploded like a clam shell closing. I brought Phil a Frankenbass and a Partscaster both of which I put together myself. Had the frets leveled and crowned and all I can say is wow! They were never bad instruments but now they play like instruments that should cost a few grand, not like the 300-400 dollar guitars they were when I bought them new. In addition to the skilled work, he and the other gentleman in the shop were both friendly and knowledgeable and the shop clean and bright. Work was turned around quickly. I had a bad fret buzz or two and needed some frets replaced on my Yamaha acoustic. Although Phil's website states he wasn't accepting any repair work at the time, he was happy to have me bring my guitar in for him to take a look at. It was fixed to perfection in 2 weeks at a GREAT price. Never having had work done before, I was expecting at least $150-$200 but it was about half that. Warning warning warning he ruined my guitar!!! Do not go to this place. I took my Fender Masterbuilt to him to add a switch, one week later the guitar stopped working so I removed the pic guard, to my surprise he cut the guitar with a saw and all of the wiring he did fell out. He led me on for months that he was going to reimburse me, and never did. Now he just avoids my calls. read more

Phil has worked on two of my guitars. A 60s strat reissue and a 1986 Ibanez Artist hollow body. On the strat, Phil did a full set up and leveled the frets. It sounds and plays 100% times better than ever. On the Ibanez, he did a full set up, leveled the frets and replaced the pickups. He helped me pick out the perfect pickups and now this guitar plays and sounds incredible. Don't bother with Sam Ash or Guitar Center if you need any work done on your guitars. Delta Airlines broke my PRS in half twice. Phil D'Angelo glued it together twice, and both times it was perfect, strong, played in tune, no change in the action. Brilliant! Next I had him add a middle pickup to my Steinberger Synapse as well as three on off switches, glow in the dark dot markers, and a new set of fretboard inlays as the stock ones don't match the stock dots on the edge. All work was imperceptible from the original, as if everything had been built in at the factory. He is the best. Five stars. My only regret is I moved out of town, so I have to carefully plan my visits if I need work done. read more

Acoustic or electric makes no difference. Phil will do high quality repairs and setups for a reasonable price, in a reasonable amount of time. To go anywhere else would be unreasonable. read more

I recently posted an ad in a local classified publication looking for a refret job on a 74 les Paul. The response came back overwhelmingly, " Phil D'Angelo ". Everyone was right, he sanded the board and did the refret with a med but tall fret. He also installed a new bone nut. This guitar was dead and unplayable. It is now my favorite player of 14 quality usa guitars ( 5 of them les Pauls ). I also brought him my 69 fretless wonder. He leveled ,crowned, and installed a new nut on that one also. Again it's great, when I'm able to put the 74 down, I'll play it ! His professionalism and straightforward make for great business. read more
