Well after being away from Kanata for a dozen years I was looking forward to my visit. I sat at the bar and endured the trash old fashion you tired to make. I was polite. And did not complain. I waited for my kids to arrive and sat in a HALF empty restaurant for 30mins. We moved to a bar table and you told us that our wait for food would be over 40mins because of one table. Sure there might have been 20 people but you are HALF empty. Not sure what you would do if you were actually busy. What a waste. Disappointed and I hope others only visit when your parking lot is empty. Do this in my town and you'd be closed in under a week. read more

This pub has been here only forever... and we've never been here before! What gives? Well, last night we attended a play across the street at the Kanata Theatre, and we were the lucky recipients of a discount at this restaurant, so we decided to cave in and give it a try! We waited at the front for a few minutes before we were greeted by a young Hostess. The restaurant was not packed by any means, but there were a few other patrons, mostly older people. It made me wonder if they were doing what we were doing: grabbing a bite before the show. Our waiter admitted that he was in training as he was new; this is his first week and only his 3rd day. He and another waiter served us for this visit. Oddly, the veteran waiter welcomed us back - and thought we were here recently! Perusing the menu, they offer good specials during the week. We both chose the 1 piece of fish and chips which is normally $15.00 and on special last night for $11.00. and a beer (Keith's I think??! at $5.00 on Wednesdays - a different beer every night.) I found all my food was delicious and would not hesitate to order it again here. I loved the batter on the fish, and the coleslaw was tasty if a bit too much sauce on it. Our service was reasonable, although they were a tiny bit slow bringing the bill. They must be aware of the theatre diners... None the less, I would go back. read more

I've been to several D'Arcy McGee's pubs over the years. I was at this one in Kanata recently with my husband and father-in-law. I would say that this Kanata location is more of a family restaurant as there were lots of kids there than at other locations. Food-wise, they are all very similar, typical pub food. I feel that the food is ok, albeit a bit pricey for what it is. On our most recent visit we started with the Blarney Fries, which are waffle fries with cheese, tomatoes, jalapeños, and green onions. It also came with sides of salsa and sour cream. I had a coupon for a free appetizer, so for free it was great. However, the regular price is $14.95 which I think is high for the size and what it is (i.e. essentially loaded fries). The waffle fries were crispy, but there wasn't enough cheese (which was actually a cheese sauce, not shredded cheese). I had the Spinach and Arugula Salad ($12.95) and added a piece of grilled salmon ($5.50) to it. The salad had the ingredients in its namesake, in addition to radicchio, red onions, sliced strawberries and goat cheese. Ingredients were fresh and the fruity citrus dressing complimented the salad well (I asked for it on the side, and it arrived as requested). The salmon was a little underdone for my tastes, but still good. For some reason my salad didn't have any almonds or pumpkin seeds in it. I didn't realize while at the restaurant and as I was writing this review I thought that the salad could have benefited from some crunch to it, it was then that I realized I think there was supposed to be nuts in it, and I checked the menu online and sure enough, it was supposed to have some crunchy ingredients. Oh well. My husband had the Salmon and Leek Pie $16.50. It came with a side salad. My husband enjoyed his meal but commented that the pie crust was too salty. My father-in-law had the Steak and Mushroom Pie $15.95. It came on a bed of mashed potatoes and gravy. He was disappointed that they didn't have Steak and Kidney Pie and while he enjoyed his meal he commented that it was mostly mushrooms with a bit of steak. For dessert my husband and I shared the Apple Crumble, which came with vanilla ice cream ($7). The ice cream was great, very rich and creamy. The apple blossom was too much crust for my liking, and it was a pie crust. I have seen this dessert made with a phyllo crust and I would have enjoyed a phyllo crust much more. The pie crust was also a little underdone at the bottom. The apple filling was not apple slices, but rather apple matchsticks. I probably would not order this again. My father-in-law had the Brownies with vanilla ice cream ($6.95). There were 3 pieces of brownies and he gave us a piece. He thought it wasn't chocolatey enough, and I thought it was a bit on the dry side. In my opinion, desserts were not this restaurant's strengths. In the past I've had their Boxties, which are like potato pancakes (like pancakes made with potato flour, not like rosti or latkes). These are quite good and I rarely see them on the menu at other restaurants (in fact the only other place I've had them in Ottawa was at the Ashton Brew Pub and it wasn't very good there but they did have some other rarities like Welsh Rarebit, but that's another review altogether). I've also had their burgers and their sandwiches, which were also good. This location is in that row of restaurants with Swiss Chalet, Eastside Mario's and A&W. I dont want to do this, buuuut, you need to be warned. I just had a terrible experience... It took over an hour for us to get out food after ordering, only 11 other tables being served in the entire restaurant... Not a good start. I ordered a burger. Pretty safe right? Nooooo. It was burned, dried out, def not 7oz(tiny) and room temp. even the ingredients weren't placed correctly. I dont understand! To make matters worse, my pickle looked half dehydrated! How do you mess up a pickle guys? seriously! The fries were ok, I left hungry and feeling like I was robbed. If they cant figure out how to make a cheeseburger, this place should not be in your future. Clearly they don't care about theirs. Spend your hard-earned money else-ware. Yuck read more

VERY good food, decent service and yummy drinks. They make an amazing Guinness Burger, Caesar salad (real bacon) and the curries are out of this world! Do not expect large portions like you may see at other pubs. We went expecting to watch the hockey game but we could not get the bar to play any TV sound. Thursday and Friday this week we ate here and really enjoyed it. We had the same server both days and I think his name was Daniel. A very witty attentive young man who worked hard and was eager to please. On Thursday my wife and I stopped in for supper and I had the Bacon Cheese burger and she had the Avocado burger with cheese. We both had french fries with it. The fries are very good and the burgers are very generous. We were both very full after scoffing down our food. Lots of beer on tap, a lot of Irish and English beers. The menu is pub grub but a lot of English and Irish Dishes such as Salmon and Leek pie and steak and kidney pie etc. Today we went for fish and chips which is our usual Friday fare. We took my mother in law today. She had a white Pinot Grigio to start and we had a couple of Stella. All served in a timely fashion and Daniel was once again very attentive. Fish and ships came in good time even though there were a lot more people in house today. The fish is good (cod I think) although there is a lot of batter on it. My MIL and wife picked a lot of the batter off after the first few bites but I love that stuff so hoovered it right up. Fries good again. The cole slaw is a creamy cole slaw and ok I guess but I'm not a big cole slaw fan. All in all a good place to eat, friendly and prompt service, We'll be back. read more

Before my Father was going to receive a jersey for Hero's Ridge at the Sens game we took everyone for our box out for dinner at D'arcys. 12 people Big mistake..... Took 15 minutes to receive our drinks. When we ordered our drinks they would come a different drink ex: IPA and served Beau's. I ordered fish tacos, it did not come with the rest of our parties meals. The server was clearly battling against an unsupportive manager and kitchen staff. She let them know my meal did not come and said they were making it right away. 15 minutes later they had not yet made it - literally coleslaw, a tortilla some pickled onion and a fried piece of fish - 5 minute prep? 30 minutes later was never a even made. Regardless it was brought to the managers attention, nothing was done I had to cancel my meal as we had a game to get to...and an important one. No compensation offered and I felt horrible for the server. I will never go here again. Such a special night and it started out with a brutal meal....stay away.....far far away. Caution: you can't be in a rush coming to Darcy McGee's. There was one table occupied when I arrived between lunch + dinner but we waited a good 45 minutes for food to arrive. Club sandwich with cranberry mayo: no cranberry mayo, very disappointing and bland. Fries were excellent. Cauliflower curry: very good, but naan bread was hard. Service: we were not checked on during the meal, otherwise we would have asked for mayo on the side. No offer of pop refills when we were finally noticed at the end of our meal. We have now been waiting at least 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared, unsure when we will get our bill. I have eaten here many times. But never again. Service sucked. On a quiet Sunday night (2017-10-15). There are many restaurants, same or better quality food, but much much more deserving of your business. Arrived on a Sunday evening, about 7:45pm. Was seated immediately. And waited for 10 minutes for a server to come take our drink order. "I don't have a button to order Stella in the 20 oz size, you have to have the 14 oz size." We ordered something else. Beer arrived 10 minutes later - brought by not-our-server. We waited another 10 minutes for the server to show up to take the food order. After another 25 minutes we got up to go find our server, fearing she got lost. We encountered her coming out of the kitchen with food - we sent her back, and asked for the manager. She showed up in a hurry, though we had not previously seen her all night. We told her service was awful, we were not longer interested, we'll pay for the beer, but she could keep the food and we were going elsewhere. She (the manager) comp'd the beer, and offered a free meal for our next visit. We declined the offer of free food, as it was extremely likely that we would never be back. I turned down free food. After being given free beer. How does one give this place zero stars? Go elsewhere. read more

Good service. Nice, dark wood decor. The bar is very well stocked with a variety of Irish and Scottish Whiskies as well as a good wine and beer selection. The food is a bit pricier than some other bars, but you're getting what you pay for. The food is fresh and always good. Went to D'Arcy's for a "quick" bite but turned into a 2 hr saga that felt like it would never end. Very bad evening service wise, we were very unimpressed and from the comments around us we were not alone. Took 35 min to order our food, it was out fairly quickly-one star-but getting a drink refill was impossible which was outrageous for a hot night on the patio-can I mention it was almost 9 pm so it wasn't because it was busy. Food was barely ok, I'm certain my steak was really liver that I ate anyway because I was so hungry-and my husband had more brown than green lettuce in his caesar salad. We were ready to leave when second drinks showed up so we moved inside because the bugs were getting bad and it was 28 inside the bartender told us-it was sweltering. Finally got out of there after 10 pm, what a waste of my evening. We won't be back. read more

The best part of my visit was leaving. More like 1.5 stars, as I have experienced a LOT better. I sat outside on a cloudy but nice day. The patio had two other parties there already, and the one remaining after a few minutes was a group of five older gentlemen. Not an issue, until the young server flirts with them and just about completely forgets my existence. The salad I got was not flavorful, quite bland in actuality, and not the traditional "pub food" I've had in authentic pubs. I had to ask for a refill of a free beverage, and when it came out, she puts it literally RIGHT against my left hand instead of removing the old glass and putting the new one down. I've never seen that before, until now. I was there with a female co-worker, but don't discount your other patrons to try to squeeze a larger tip from a group of men. Service is terrible. I can say this after being a frequent customer for 4 years. It has it's ups and downs with staff. Sometimes the service is great, others it's the worst. Seems like they have quite the turnover rate at this location. I tend to go around lunchtime, and let me say they are completely understaffed even on weekends. The food isn't bad. Don't expect refills, and the seating hostess was especially bad today (June 20th). She didn't even bring a high hair as we had asked for our year and a half old son. We always expect to be there 2-3 hours, which is unacceptable at lunch time. Even after complaining, the timing doesn't change. Let's be real, this is a pub first and foremost. If you come in expecting a five star restaurant that's on you. This is the best pub in kanata and stittsville in my opinion. The food is ok but the service is amazing. They will make you feel at home. The bartender I seem to always get, cece I think, is the absolute best. Good pub to go watch the game at and have some cold beers on tap. The food isn't amazing, but they do have good Chicken Wings (Hot Honey & BBQ Flavors, Served w/Blue Cheese Dressing, Carrot Sticks, 2 lbs/$23). The sauce was flavorful, and the wings were cooked well. I just wish they gave you more carrot sticks (and had celery available), and that you could order additional carrot sticks as a side. They also have a good amount of beers on tap, which include some local Canadian beer selections, as well as a few selections for scotches/whiskies. My only complaint is really with their slow service- it can be difficult to flag down your server at times since they have so many tables. Parking is easy since there is a huge lot. read more

The service is awful because I told the server Amy that I will have beverages first then food afterwards she never took my food order and I l been waiting an hour with an opened menu. They also screwed up everyone orders up at our stand and our food was either cold one person ordered the steak but the meat was,not medium rare it was,more on the rare side and the fries were cold and tasted like they were old。 Some ordered French onion soup that was also cold and tasted like soy sauce. I would not recommend this place for food or even for beverages and the service was poorly. Let's say 3 1//2. This is our "come to" place now for fish and chips. This evening, the fish was excellent. The batter was crispy, the fish flaky. OK, the fries were on the soggy side, too bad, almost great. The coleslaw is nice, too. Not as "oniony" as it once was (an improvement in my opinion), had simple ingredients, but a nice vinaigrette. The other choices on the menu seemed appealing, except the concept of "boxty" has me bewildered. When it first appeared a couple of years ago, it seemed an interesting concept, now it seems like an inexpensive way to dress up stew toppings. Well D'arcy McGee's, what can I say, we tried. We gave you more chances than deserved only because we liked your location and the authentic dark wooded irish pub feel to your place. Unfortunately, this is where we part ways, we won't be visiting again. The biggest problem that we've experienced time and time again is the food. Our latest visit was no different. In fact, it was worse. One of our dishes was the Chicken Tika Masaa, which highlights that "all our curries curries are served with jasmine rice and grilled naan bread". Sounds good, right? Well what came was a curry served with regular rice and grilled pita bread, not jasmine and not naan. It looked like jasmine and it looked like naan with the grill marks, but it was not. Huge difference in flavours and textures if you know the difference. We also tried the new nacho's on the menu. We were thrilled that they now have nachos, the old menu didn't have it and what can I say, nacho's go great with a beer! So the menu has this whole sales pitch "Nacho vs Nacho" mighty beef vs buffalo chicken and then you vote online to say which one you want to keep on the menu. Half order $12.99 and full order $19.99. So we asked our waitress if we could have a full order but one half be mighty beef and one half be buffalo chicken. She checked with the kitchen and came back and said that wasn't possible. So we laughed it off and just ordered a half order of the mighty beef. Simple. The half order was so disappointing, it had a good number of tortilla chips and lots of lettuce and jalapenos but that's about it, tiniest amount of cheese and not trying to over embellish, barely a sprinkle of beef. We ate just a few of the "good ones" on the plate and left majority. Our waitress asked how they were and we very nicely mentioned we found them disappointing and she just said she was sorry to hear that and really looked fearful that we might ask her for something. We let it go, not her fault or her problem. The basic burger I ordered was good but the fries were soggy and cold. Not much more to say there, a soggy cold fry is a soggy cold fry! So there you have it, our latest and final experience at D'arcy McGee's. There's lots of other irish pubs out there and I highly recommend you try one of them. Based on the amount of people at the pub the day we were there, I'd guess they were also enjoying another pub too! read more

Service was fine. Food: poutine: worst I've had I think. Hardly any curds, terrible gravy, chips might have been mediocre if the gravy didn't obliterate them. Better poutine at McDonald's, seriously. Farmers salad with salmon: salmon ok. Potatoes ok. Rest quite awful, and the combo completely wrong. We were shocked at how bad the food was. read more

I have been meaning to post this for two weeks. I was hoping it would bother me less, but it hasn't. So here it goes... Our 6 year son has a genetic disorder called PKU. He essentially must eat an extremely low protein diet (Google it). It's not a contact allergy or anything related to that. We often have to bring his own low-protein meals with us to restaurants. His doctor issued us a Letter of Medical Necessity to help us in instances where there may be policies against bringing in our own food. This, however, has never been a problem. Every restaurant for the last six years has been more than helpful by warming up his veggie nuggets... that is until we went to D'Arcy McGees two weeks ago where multiple servers refused to warm up his food. Congrats for being the first restaurant to gain this honor and for allowing a six year old to watch an entire youth hockey team eat what they wanted. You should be ashamed and I hope people boycott your establishment. read more

Ultimate burger was great, the fish and chips were good as well. The side cesear salads weren't mixed very well and had very little dressing. The cod burgers seemed to be half the size last time we went here. $3.50 for a pop and a coffee, refills not offered. Servers seemed too busy and the manager sitting at the bar saw a customer waving to the bartender and just made a joke about it, he didn't even get up to help. Sad. If I can sum up my visit to this establishment it would be why bother?? On a snowy eve we walked in late and asked if we were able to eat. The response was yes we the kitchen is closing at 11 pm the bar at midnight. Just peachy with us. The menu looks good lots of good veggie options I'm stoked. I asked for a glass of wine to start and then ordered our meals. Our waitress returns while I'm halfway through asking how the food is. It was just great and can I have some water please and another glass of wine. Only to hear "oh sorry we had last call. Didn't anyone tell you?" Well that should have been her. so just some water which I never got in the first place. Anyway she takes the food only to come back and ask if I want more water, nothing else being served but water refills are offered. Now I wouldn't be so annoyed by a small restaurant deciding to close but a corporate chain. Give me a break. Well Cara foods won't be visited by me anymore. Rather go to a local place to be treated like crap. read more
