I hired D. Hughes Roofing to replace the roof on our 1970's home. I had seen their truck in my neighborhood replacing other roofs and thought I'd give them a try. I was able to get 3 estimates and theirs was right in line with the others and reasonable, so I decided to go with them. The roof installation went well and I very much appreciate their hard working crew. We've had little rain this fall, so it was a number of weeks after the roof completion that we had our first heavy rainfall. Then I noticed that one of the gutters wasn't correct and their was a very heavy stream of water falling from the roof. Later I noticed that there was another issue with another gutter. Unfortunately, my emails and phone calls to the company went completely unanswered. It looks like I'll have to hire another gutter company to come and clean up the problems. I was prepared to give them a 5-star rating, but reduced it for ghosting me on what is a real issue with the gutters. read more

I met the owner at the home show and had him come out to do an estimate for some roofing repair. The estimate appointment went fine. After getting several bids I choose to go with them to do the work, but had a few questions. I have called three times to get an answer and haven't heard back. They haven't even left me a message with the response to my inquiry. I am sad to say that I need to get my roof fixed and can no longer wait. So sadly, I called a different company that was competitive and will be having them do the work that I need and save a few dollars as well. read more

D Hughes roofing put the roof on my new building here in Kirkland. They were a "breath of fresh air" when compared to many of the contractors we worked with. They completed the roof on time, on budget and most importantly, we're dry inside. I did get 3 bids and they were the lowest but only by about $200. They did come with a good recommendation from a friend so I went with them. I would definitely use them again. read more

D Hughes Roofing installed a new metal roof and gutters on my house 2 1/2 years ago with a prior owner. This winter, the gutters FELL OFF MY HOUSE, which I have owned for less than two years. I have called and emailed the company SIX TIMES. No one has responded. I have asked for an estimate to repair and replace the gutters which D Hughes installed. No response. One would think that the company would be curious as to why their gutters would have fallen off. But no. Their total lack of consideration or care for their work is atrocious customer service. I have contacted other roofing and gutter companies who have all said that my gutters were installed improperly. Tread carefully with this company. From my experience, they'll take your money to install a new roof and gutters. And then leave you hanging if something goes wrong. VERY DISAPPOINTING. read more

Just had our roof replaced on a 3000sf house by D.Hughes, and am very pleased. The original roof was poorly installed and after only 16 years (and 3 leaks) we decided to replace it. Received four bids and chose D. Hughes because of past experience (they fixed one of the leaks), their price, and Steve Yates' (D.Hughes estimator) approach to providing and explaining the roofing options. When it came time for the install the crew was very courteous, pleasant and professional and did the install like this was their own home. I was expecting a professional job, and they exceeded my expectations by doing a great job plus including small details that demonstrated pride in their work. I've had a lot of water problems in homes I've owned, so I watched this closely and was very happy with the result. This is the first Yelp review I've written and happily recommend D. We had to get a new roof this year and new it was going to hurt the wallet. So I got three different estimates and all were pretty close, but D Hughes roofing went the extra mile, they included in there bid a PVC lining for over our hot tub and a new Cap for the fire place flu. D Hughes Roofing was the only company that came out on same day we contacted them for a bid and provided me the estimate while on sight, no special presentations, where you have one person come out and measure than someone else come out and try and sell the product. Very honest and direct while looking at the roof, he even stated the roof itself could last a few more years and we could just patch the leak. Once we decided to go with D Hughes they put us on the schedule and met the schedule, we did have to change it one week, but they called and asked if we minded because of another job (gave me the option, not just changing it), and we were fine with it. The Roofing Crew came out and were very friendly, worked really hard, and kept the work site clean. They got our roof done in two days and leaving the place cleaner than when they started. I went up on the roof and there work was top notch, everything from the flashing to the cricket they put in behind the chimney. The next week they did the gutters to the house and same thing happened, very friendly, worked really hard and kept the work site clean. This was done in a day. The different crews in D Hughes Roofing are very organized and communicate very well with each other, I never had to follow-up, and never had to explain what I wanted, they had it all setup and ready to go. We asked D. Hughes for an estimate / evaluation. The owner Dick Hughes came out and checked out our roof. He was on time and very professional Best of all, he said we didn't need a new roof and we had at least 3 to 5 years left in old part of the roof and that the newer part would last at least 5 years. He also gave me some tips on how to fix one thing he saw that might be a problem. We talked for a bit about his business, the type of jobs he does, materials, etc. All round Dick seemed like an honest, hard working owner with a well run company under his belt. So I'll start this off by saying, I was just given an estimate from Steve Yates, Senior Estimator with D.Hughes Roofing. We're still collecting bids and haven't hired anyone yet. But, OMG OMG OMG!! For anyone who despises contractor sales people like I do, these are the people for you! Steve talked, behaved, and presented his proposal/estimate like he was talking to a colleague rather than like he was trying to make a sale. He was upfront and honest about how far they're booked out and the reasons for that---they have a relatively small number of roofing crews, how long the bid/proposal was good for, best ways to accept the bid. He also did the MOST through job with measurement and cost estimation I've seen so far. He was also interested in educating us on what is up there now; and why it should be replaced. He went through each layer they would put on and what its role is, and what we could do to protect our new roof regardless of what company we hire. I've talked to 15 or so different contractors from various disciplines (roofing, electrical, plumbing, etc..) in the last 10 days including Steve and all but 2 of them have given me presentations/bids that feel more like a choose your own adventure book than a recommended course of action that might include a couple of optional upgrades or additions. During those other presentations I was thinking, If I knew what I was doing myself, I wouldn't need you!. The estimate also came in significantly below the 2 estimates I have from other roofing companies. As an example: Green Built Roofing didn't measure or examine my roof before giving me an estimate that came in at almost double D. Hughes is asking. I'll try to remember to update this if with our decision and how our roof looks complete with pictures if allowed. It'll probably be March or April before they're out here. read more

I needed two leaky skylights replaced and the flashings around them repaired. We got several quotes, and while D. Hughes wasn't the cheapest, they were close (and nearly half of the most expensive one). His team was easy to work with and did a great job. They wound up repairing the flashings, and left the old skylights on for about a week and a half until replacing, because my skylights were an odd size and they needed to special order them. Still, our bill was exactly what was quoted. I highly recommend D Hughes Roofing. read more

We just had our roof replaced on our 19 year old home and we're very happy. Many of our neighbors had their roofs done by D.Hughes Roofing, were very happy so they were our first call. What impressed us the most was Steve Yates' great customer service and willingness to help us out as we had a tight deadline to prepare our house to go on the market. Not only did Steve fit us in his busy schedule this summer on such short notice but he stayed in touch before, during and after the job was completed to ensure we were happy. Just had my roof replaced by D Hughes and we are really happy. Was referred to Dick by a friend who also had work done. Very reasonable and competitive prices quoted for excellent, high end products and materials. Licensed, bonded, insured and "A" rating on BBB. The crews were friendly and kept my property clean and orderly during and after the job. Impressive attention to detail. Really great looking roof and my neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. We did have to wait several months due to their busy work schedule and a rough winter. They replaced a roof but did not install enough ventilation voiding all warranty's on the shingles. When brought to their attention they refused to make their mistake correct and stated that they were close to the amount of ventilation required even though close is not good enough. They broke county rules and are in violation of the county ordinances but will not fix their mistake. I say run do not walk but run away from these charlatans. read more

I am pretty disappointment with my experience with D Hughes Roofing, but I will lay out the facts of what happened. I had D Hughes roofing come out to replace my roof shingles replace my skylight. In the contract it says that D Hughes Roofing installed Ridge Vents on all horizontal ridges. Given that I have a hip roof and other roofers did not offer me this option, I called and clarified whether my roof would get a ridge vent installed, and the guy who came out and wrote our bid said it would of course be installed with a ridge vent. Come the day of the install and the crew had the work done very quickly, it was expected to be a 2 day job, but they were able to get most of it finished that day. They had to come back to replace the skylight once it arrived at their office and finish up the flashing around the chimney. The crew was courteous and answered all of my questions. However, after the first day of installation I decided to hop into my attic to check out the work. I had heard of other roofers (not D Hughes) not connecting the bathroom exhaust correctly, so I wanted to check that out as well as other things. The bathroom exhaust was connected, but what I discovered looked like my ridge vent wasn't installed properly. I am no roofing expert, so I took pictures, went on the roof to take a look at the ridge vent and did some google researching on what a ridge vent is supposed to look like. It turns out that the ridge vent on my home was installed on the top of my roof, so from the outside it looks all done right, but what they didn't do was cut the actual vent into my roof. The ridge was just nailed on top of shingles with no actual vent. I do not know who is responsible for this "mistake", whether it is a worker's fault, the crew, or the owner. Either way, it is the fault of D Hughes Roofing as a whole, and I have serious doubts that this was an accident since they install ridge vents on all of their roofs, per what they say in the contract. I contacted the owner of D Hughes, he came out a couple days later, agreed that this was a mistake and he had the crew out that day to install the vent correctly and finish up the rest of the work. Had I never discovered this error, it could have cost me thousands down the road due to improper ventilation in my attic. Alongside this issue, there have been other problems. The cleanup job wasn't done completely and I am still finding roofing pieces around my property weeks later and I even had numbers of nails left in my driveway and sharp cut pieces of sheet metal laying around my property as well. When the owner came out by my request, he gave me an invoice for the full amount due at the end of the day when the work was completed. It was a very basic invoice with only 3 basic line items. What I needed for tax purposes was more detail regarding the skylight installed in the invoice. The owner assured me he would email me a revised copy that day. I paid the full amount of the invoice to the crew manager at the end of the day. I never did receive a revised invoice from the owner. I even emailed him twice regarding it to no response. It has been over 2 weeks since the work was completed and I have sent email reminders. I would not hire D Hughes Roofing again to do anything, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. If you have gotten work done by them, I suggest you inspect that the work was actually done correctly, and if you still decide to hire D Hughes Roofing, you should at least keep a close eye on the work and make sure it is done properly. read more
