I picked up my all white dog after grooming with a large greyish black streak down his side. When I asked the staff what this was they said they thought it was a birthmark and took him to the back to remove it. Several minutes later the groomer came out and said they couldn't get the stain off of him. She informed me they were doing construction in the back and he was laying on the floor under it. The conversation got worse and worse from there. She told me "it was likely something from the air conditioner and she didn't know what it was but it definitely wasn't dangerous." She then casually said if they couldn't get it off I wouldn't have to pay for the grooming.... as if he was a sweater that got stained at the dry cleaner. They ended up giving him two more baths and getting most of it off with Dawn dish soap... which is what they use to take oil spills off of sea creatures. My dog was unsupervised, laying in construction chemicals and came out from his grooming stained. After all of that, they still charged me and barely apologized. I was a regular customer for several years and this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Needless to say we have never been back. read more

I don't even know where to begin with our love for D is for Doggy! My dog Simon started here when he was about 4.5 months old. I was nervous at first, but after a short trial run, we were both completely hooked! Now, at a year old, Simon has practically grown up at D is for Doggy, visiting several times a week. One of the things I love most is being able to check in on him throughout the day, and seeing how happy and exhausted he is after a full day of play is priceless. But the absolute highlight is that Simon can't even walk by the place without begging to go inside! When I drop him off, he literally runs to each staff member, tail wagging, full of excitement and joy. It's such a relief knowing he's in excellent hands, having the best time, while I'm at work. His social skills with other dogs have grown tremendously, and I credit that to his time at D is for Doggy. We also get Simon groomed here by Prae, and she's just incredible! His last grooming was so relaxing for him, he actually fell asleep. Every haircut has been perfect, and you can tell how much love she puts into her work. We are beyond grateful for the care and affection Simon receives at D is for Doggy--it truly feels like a second home for him! read more

D is for Doggy has been the BEST..... My dog, Benji, went there for years. He was never healthy, but he was happy. He had to be euthanized a month ago, after he had an acute medical emergency for which surgery was the only option. He wasn't a good candidate. Benji enjoyed going to D is for Doggy, initially, when I was working and he was young, almost every weekday. More recently, when he was older and I, retired, he went once or twice a week, as he loved the place, but would sleep most of the day. I adopted a new pup who hails from Puerto Rico rather quickly. I had to go to a funeral out of town, the week after Benji crossed the Bridge. D is for Doggy agreed to meet Luca for a trial run, and they said they expected that he could spend the day when I had to go out of town. In fact, Luca had a good time, even though he was brand new to NYC, to me, and to D is for Doggy. He's gone back 2 or 3 times the last few weeks, and now he pulls me in the D is for Doggy direction! I have been getting photos and e-mail communications every time Luca goes to D is for Doggy, and I am so pleased that he has become like family to the UWS D is for Doggy. The staff have been fantastic. We all miss Benji, who not-too-long-ago was deemed Doggie of the week for being such a sweet grandpa, and Luca is learning to becomfortable in NYC with D is for Doggy's help. read more

I can't say enough positive things about D is for Doggy! Our dog, Ralphie, has been going to daycare here for over a year and it is his FAVORITE place ever. The staff is amazing and they treat every dog as if they were their own. Ralphie never wants to leave - it's like doggy Disneyland (they even decorate for Halloween, Christmas, etc.!). We've left Ralphie overnight here for both weekend trips and 2-week vacations, and every time has been a success. He has separation anxiety, so boarding at D is for Doggy is perfect because he's never left alone and never put in a crate. The staff is fantastic with following with specific food and medication instructions. Ralphie also gets groomed here and Jesus does an amazing job. Asta is now just over 18 months old, and still loves going to D is for Doggy. She definitely considers it an extension of her home, and her favorite thing is to hang out in the reception area and greet the other pups and humans that come in. We couldn't be happier with our experience with D is for Doggy, and recommend it all the time to other dogs/there humans. Asta has gone there pretty much daily for daycare since she was 4 months old--even if just for a couple hours (we do the unlimited monthly)--has also gone for grooming, and the occasional boarding. The only sad thing is that Asta still misses Christina, who became the Assistant Manager at the E. 94th Street location. We visit sometimes, and she is SO happy to see her. She looooooves Laura and Kelly--both of whom are amazing and are absolutely devoted to the dogs and attentive to their well-being, personalities, special needs. Asta spent the night at Laura's home once, and Kelly has been helping Asia with some of her more difficult manners (like, "quiet" and "wait") and some tricks. My dog has zero patience when food is involved, or when, as doodles do, she gets overly excited, but we're getting there. And we love the other folks at D is for Doggy, too. It's such a great place. (There are staff who love dogs so much that they choose to work there even though they are allergic to them--and they show the dogs so much love and affection, you would never guess!) We've seen so many dogs come in whose humans say are anxious or have separation anxiety or whatever, and within a few days or week or two at D is for Doggy, you start seeing a real change and how comfortable the dog is becoming with the people and the "pack" and how they are playing and know they are in a good place. And of course we know all the "regulars" who are so excited when they arrive and barely look "goodbye" at their people, before trying to dash down the hallway to the dog rooms. And side note to the reviewer who complained about the 10% discount: That only applies to a full groom, so maybe that's the confusion--if the dog only got a "great bath, nail trim, etc." versus a grooming (i.e., including a haircut). I made a similar mistake at another place where I thought a special Sunday price was for a full groom, and turned out it was only for a bath. However, I've never seen Kelly been anything but kind and professional and go the extra mile with all of the doggy parents--and we are at the store A LOT--did I mention how much Asta loves being there? Loooooove d is for doggy. The UWS location and 6th avenue one are the two biggest. The live webcam is awesome and ensures that I can see my little frenchie whenever I want during the day- and also makes me feel like this place has nothing to hide- unlike many other daycares that don't even allow a visit. It's about $54 for a full day, which is steep but my french bulldog loves it here. We will be back and be sure to get the gilt deal- it is a steal! read more

I'll start off by saying that this does seem to be a good daycare with kind and caring staff, it just was not the right fit for my dog. I took my dog here a few times. He is a little bit shy at first, but usually starts to open up and play the more times he goes. I noticed that after leaving him there for 9 hours, he would still come back home with lots of energy. From his previous daycare experiences in our old town, I thought this was a little bit abnormal because he usually comes home exhausted. The daycare has cameras and live streams which is a cute idea and allows you to check up on your pup throughout the day. Whenever I would check it out, my dog would be alone and sitting on the outskirts of the room. Most dogs were walking around, not engaged. This prompted me to ask the staff what they do to facilitate play and what activities they do with the dogs, and they stated that they really don't do that. They told me there are also no toys for the dogs to play with. This was not a good fit for my dog because he does better when play between dogs is facilitated and activities are planned. It felt to me that I was just paying to drop him off and have him sit disengaged all day. Depending on your dog's personality, this daycare may or may not be the right fit. The facility is clean with lots of natural light from the big windows, staff is super nice and accommodating, and they do separate dogs by size. They also offered transportation options which is another pro! read more

I want to give 5 stars for the groomer who gave my pup a great bath and nail trim, etc., and zero stars for the receptionist Kelly. She denied 10% off grooming service as posted on the storefront and in the brochures. I asked her to call the manager to clarify and she gave me a whole lot of horrible customer service and threw a tantrum. I thanked her after I paid and left a tip for the groomer, and this Kelly WOULD NOT even thank me or look at me. If this is how they treat their new customers I wondeer how they really treat my dog when I am not around. read more

The UWS Amsterdam Ave location is the best daycare/boarding facility my dog has been to. The workers are young, energetic and seem to love the dogs. There is an online video (which is great) from a camera and I've observed how they come in and play with the dogs and if there's an accident, almost immediately it's cleaned up. They also get to know your dog by name which is a sign of caring. The best endorsement is Duke- as soon as we are a block away, he starts pulling me towards the place. He loves it there!! And when he comes home, he sleeps and rests since he's had so much exercise and fun. I highly recommend D is for Doggy!! read more

D is for Doggy stood out because it was open until 9:00pm on weekdays, and then seemed almost too good to be true when we looked further: it had big glass windows to see where the dogs stay (bright and spotlessly clean), webcams so you can check in from anywhere, affordable packages, boarding overnight, and more. We signed up, and it turned out to be even better than all that. The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful, and Quincy loves it (we bring him several days per week, have done boarding for multiple days, and have also had him groomed here). LOVING Monty's new doggie daycare! The facility is clean, modern, and very bright so a lovely place for the boy to spend his days. The staff has been SO accommodating with our trial and then setting up his set schedule. They even pick up and drop off as we live 1.5 blocks away! A great perk is the NEST cam so when I remember, I can check in on him and see he's having a great time with his pals.
